Poor interest? - Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Questions & Answers

It have been almost a year since mi max 3 came out. Why there is such poor development, people are not interested in it compared to max and max 2.
There is no single custom rom for mi max 3.Xiaomi is way too slow with updates.I have a feeling that for an average Joe in Android community the better option is ios ecosystem. At least you can't go wrong with os support and regular updates. And there will always be an jailbreak if you want to go custom. Apple or jailbreak community have insanely way way way better support compared to Android. Did also anyone noticed annoying ads on Miui that xiaomi is pushing on their integrated system apps ,is driving me crazy.

The xiaomi.eu rom is custom, isnt it?
And do we need custom roms if we have treble?
A great kernel would be awesome

Something developed just for the Mi Max3 is always better than a GSI
I'm using HavocOS right now and there hasn't been a real update to it since last October.

Yes, there are some things that don't work as good with a "vanilla" treble instead of a rom with blobs just for this device.
Some of which are bad enough for me to go back to xiaomi.eu rom instead.
The most notable things are
Viper4android, when the screen is off there is a stutter and change in volume when the module is killed and started again and this happens every few minutes which gets annoying and I instead played music from my laptop while working.
This was a common thing back with lollypop and kitkat on other phones back in the day but not as annoying as with the mi max 3.
On xiaomi.eu this is nonexistent which is kind of unusual, the rom is unusual stable with Viper4android.
Volte does not work on treble of course, but on pie based treble you will get hsdpa data connection when calling.
On aicp-mordiford the data connection shut off completely without hsdpa data while calling.
How is GPS performance for you on havoc?
For me I get four satellites in a village with poor signal to all off them which is not enough for a position lock.
I have been driving one time and I lost GPS several times.
On Xiaomi.eu GPS is working flawlessly with a lock immediately even indoors in a concrete building.
If you have a generic board like a pixel device or one plus you probably can get a fairly working device but xiaomi does things differently and depends on a custom rom for working volte

I generally don't care, stock ROMs used to be terrible and lack many feature. The stock Xiaomi rom does exactly what is needed for me so I find no need to flash potentially unstable ROMs on my device. I used to flash weekly even daily. I don't need to anymore.

all we need just pie kernel since EU rom has been amazing for me

GPS hasn't been very good for me since I switched away from xiaomi.eu rom. I'm also using micro-g so I can't blame havoc.

What do you think is better? Stock vs Lineage.

Since Oneplus released the new 4.5.0 OxygenOS update, many noticeable changes has been achieve, better battery life, performance, etc.
On the other hand, Android O is reaching many devices around the world thanks to professional developers on XDA community.
Should I stick with OxygenOs, or use lineage os. Which is better
OXYGEN OS
Lineage hands down. Stock is boring, u wanna stay stock buy an iphone.
So many roms to try, why you would stay stock baffles me. But each to there own ?
I suppose these kind of threads are just for opinion-gathering, but I think there's nothing wrong with that.
On one hand, stock OxygenOS is simply "things that just works." Sure, this is boring, but some people prefers to have a system that works in their day to day life. Boring? Sure. But does it works fine? Yes.
Lineage on the other hand, while stable as is, is still geared towards experimenting, that doesn't mean it's unstable though. Also, Lineage (and most other custom ROM) is pretty good when it comes to keeping devices updated - so once OnePlus 3/T is out of commission and OnePlus drops their support for the device(s), it's going to be a good idea to move to Lineage if you want to continue using the phone.
tl;dr use stock if you just want things to work, and Lineage for the sake of modding and future-proofing.
Should you switch to Lineage? Probably.
Nether if you ask me. They are both garbage when compared to an AOSP based rom like Dirty Unicorns. Both have way too many bugs for any real day to day usage.

We are CAF out of the box. Rom base might be AOSP but all our hardware specific stuff is CAF or LOS

I like opinion gathering threads since they foster good discussion, but it seems that questions like these are asked every week since users posting them don't bother to search past threads despite the better content in them.
That being said, I agree that LOS is great in the future once device support is dropped, but do you see any downside in keeping OOS installed until support is dropped?
Lineage OS all the way with OMS support. Stock is boring and nothing much then black and regular theme.

Which ROM should I flash?

Hello there!
I just bought the Mi Mix 2, because I wanted to get rid of my iPhone SE, the screen was just too small.
I had a Redmi 4 Prime one year ago, and I was happy with MIUI back then, but I dont like Google and want to keep the Play Services to a bare minimum (comparable to the OpenGapps Pico).
I only need the PlayStore and nothing else.
Several years ago I was a huge fan of Cyanogenmod and used it on every Phone I ever owned. Though Lineage is available for the Mix 2, I didnt like the stock Android versions which came after Kitkat. I never really got familiar with it, especially after the HoloBlue design was gone and Google tried to make the OS look more mainstream.
MIUI was very pleasant to use, but even with the xiaomi.eu ROM Google is still present with all of the services.
What ROM would you recommend for me? And which ROM are you using and why?
Sorry for my bad english!
Regards
Edit: One more question: The Redmi 4 Prime had a weird audio recording bug, where audio in videos or other recording was barely hearable and very noisy. After flashing the AICP ROM of the user unterwelt (amazing work, btw), the issue was completely gone. Back to the official MIUI ROM and it was there again. So I assume its a problem caused either by Xiaomi/MIUI or some Google services?
Anyway, is this an issue with the Mix 2? I read somewhere that it has very bad recording quality, which would be bad, because I use my phone as a recording device when Im at my way to work and so on (Im kind of a "part time" musician).

Any custom ROM is going to give u what u want, just try them. What's good for one person might not be good for u
Try MiuiPro...I flash it on several Xiaomi and everybody are happy about it
OmniRom with skizo Kernel, good battery life.
LOS and RR (based on LOS of course) have a very poor battery life atm

The official site is in Russia (the hacking, malware and ransomware capital of the world) and there is very little information about MIUIPro that I can find other than people saying its good. How is it good compared to stock or other ROMs?
I think I will give the .eu ROM a shot then, since I like MIUI. Is there any possibility to turn the Google services off? I only need the PlayStore.
Also, what about the recording sound?
Finally received my MIX 2. Looks and feels really nice!
Sadly, I have to wait for 72 hours to unlock the phone. I dont know why, because I registrated the device, but I guess its some problem with the unlock app.
Anyway, I am stuck with the global ROM for so long now. Is it worth it to "upgrade" to another rom? Because global seems to run well so far, and I guess MIUI10 is already around the corner.

That's just Xiaomi policy. Wait it out and then unlock your device.
I tried LOS and found it buggy and also significantly less smooth and responsive than MIUI 9--but for some people having stock Android is apparently worth the drop off in phone performance. There's not much risk in trying custom ROMs with this phone because it's very easy to go back to stock using the MI Flash tool.

What's the best ROM available right now? (as of 29th Feb 2020)

So, there's plenty of ROM options available to us currently. I've been hesitating massively on trying any of them due to being a bit burned by previous experiences with some not so great ROMs on other phones I've had previously. So tell me, in your opinion, what's the best ROM available right now? I'm looking for things that have the good battery life, a mostly lag-free experience, the less bugs the better, etc. The best overall ROM in general, basically. If you're using a custom kernal too instead of stock or the one that comes with the ROM, please mention it in a reply along with what you voted for.
Thanks!
I currently use POSP v3.1+8. This ROM is great if you want a proper taste of Android Q. I am using the stock kernel that comes with the ROM and opengapps pico package. I've never had any problems so far, but that's mainly because I don't use social media apps like Instagram. The software has its bugs and the battery life isn't great yet, but the Dev is working diligently to squish the bugs and that's what makes it for me. Best battery life and stability you can have is on Stock right now, especially if you debloat the ROM using shell, battery life is superb. I just can't stand Pie's ugly interface. MIUI ROM is sooo amazing, except for some little performance issues, especially on recents screen. MIUI ROM effectively transforms your Mi A2 Lite into a Redmi 6 Pro. But I've had a lot of privacy concerns over it. ROM's not open-source and Google + Xiaomi apps come preinstalled. If you respect your privacy MIUI is not the ROM for you. Pixel Experience on the other hand was a total mess. A lot of bugs + bad battery life. I haven't tried the other ROMs mentioned, but Stock Oreo is the way, if you want amazing stability, proper Gcam + incredible battery life. I literally could not drain the battery on Oreo. If you like the UI of them, stock ROMs are the way to go for stability. I'm using POSP because I just want the new features that Xiaomi should've provided us a loooong time ago.

Lineage OS seems death on Mi A2 Lite, yea I'm found builds but not updated too long.. idk why, Lineage OS it's one from best
I'm currently using this rom, in my opinion the best rom, even if without updates maybe I'll switch back to POSP later, but the battery consumption (idle) has to get even better.

Heyo Lacia here!
Do you have telegram by any chance since i released some stuff on there for POSP and if you want to use POSP i heavily recommend flashing the chunchunmaru!_r3.1 kernel too. Too improve SOT and Idle drain and fix some smaller bugs like DT2W and Data usage not working

No Pixel Experience 100% stable for A2 Lite?
I came from a Note 5 with Pixel Experience and Gcam 100% working, but my display broke so I buy a A2 Lite, but the scene looks slightly poor for me
Wich is the best 100% stable rom and Gcam (if exists)?

Theres no 100% stable rom. I mean atm all of them have some minor bugs and gcam often freeze and reboot the phone. At least this was my experience with roms and gcam... Every time I try roms I just get fed up with (mostly gcam being slow and buggy) so I'm going back to stock after a couple of weeks.
Anyways try posp with the recommended kernel. Also you can find gcam at the themes forum here on xda.

Thanks. I'm reading a lot of bad reports about the Android 10 stock rom, is this true? ?Maybe is better I continue in 9?
And at last, we didn't really have a stable GCAM? This is like a punch in the face for me

Lineage OS 16. This phone would be awesome if it had proper Lineage support.

Don't expect a stable build of 10 from Xiaomi soon. We had a Gcam configured for A2 Lite by hass31 but it doesn't work properly on stock Pie and it will NOT work on 10. Other than that I'm currently using the gcam in the apps and themes forum with the provided xml. It works wonders but video doesn't work. I've noticed that video recording on stock vs gcam doesn't make much of a difference.
Try HybridOS but high battery drain is still issue

Question Is it worth updating to 12

Still on android 11 unrooted
getting updates notifications while now but not updated
Is it worth doing it now and all issues etc resolved
backed up to Google so anything else to do if I update
Rule #1 - if your platform is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission... let it be!
Upgrades can and do break things.
Backup all critical data redundantly to at least 2 hdds that are physically and electronically isolated from each other and the PC.
Never encrypt data drives.
Never disk clone media files/folders.
Copy/paste then verify size and if readable.
Lol no. At least not OOS. Stick with OOS11 or I've personally tried derp and nameless and ran nameless until the a12 blob update.
Yes, I agree w/ the above posts from what I've encountered. I'm on Derpfest with Arter97 kernel and is very nice but ROM is a little outdated in the android world since it's an April update and not being updated going forward. But honestly I'm pretty good with the device besides no speed wireless warp charging and not being able to use my DAC.
NO.
OOS 12 is ****.
Yes.
You are you. Every person use what they like/need on the phone. So you may have/not have any of them problems.
12 has worked great for my usage since it's release! Cheers

That's on OP?
Even Pixel's have had reported issues with it.
My N10+'s will stay on 9 and 10... no issues.
The camera is more of a menace with Android 10, but that's a Samsung UI thing
Definitely don't want active scoped storage though. 12 seems too busy with nickel and dime permissions; not needed for trusted apps. If an app isn't trusted... it's not loaded; KISS.

Yes, on my 0nePlus 9 Pro and 10 Pro! Unlocked BL and Magisk loaded! Security is all over the map...
I wouldn't.
I'm still having silly issues that should have been fixed ages ago.
The app switcher UI freezes regularly.
The camera app glitches during video after a couple of minutes and the sound cuts out and video gets choppy.
Photos are often way over-exposed.
The "Always On" clock/display doesn't actually stay on.
I occasionally have issues with animation stuttering when scrolling and so on.
It was actually a pretty solid phone before I did the Android 12 update. I really should roll it back but I've just been lazy.
Weren't happy at all with OOS12. I used Derpfest and was happy with it, but as it's no longer maintained I needed something else.. Now on LineageOS 19.1 and I'm not searching for alternatives anymore, I'll probably use it until I switch phones. Battery isn't as good as on OOS11 (with custom kernel), but I manage a day without issues. You probably wouldn't if you're a phone gamer.
The 12 release for the 9 pro is poor. I only upgraded as it was a required step for my chosen ROM installation.

Normal phone calls work fine, no issues. I only use BT to listen to music, have a connected smart watch and libre sensor (diabetes sensor), all work fine (better than with OOS even). I do not use BT to answer calls, so I don't know how well that works.
For my experience oos12 was a great upgrade over oos11. Phone feels more smooth and I do get better battery life for my usage. A big noticeable difference in stand by drain while sleeping.

I keep seeing similar complaints to yours.
I would just roll it back. Android 13 is looking like it will be a complete fubar. Scoped storage is still an Apple nightmare. Malware is far easier to deal with than these "improvements"
I think that so far Android 9 is the zenith point for this platform; a good balance of functionality, usability and security. I have no issues with Pie on my stock N10+; fast, rock solid stable, reasonably secure and most importantly it's fulfilling its mission. It's a joy to use this device because it does what -I- want and it's very predictable. Predictability makes spotting malware much easier as well as basic troubleshooting. As such I spend very little time doing maintenance or troubleshooting. This load is over 2 yo now. That's what Android is capable of... or should be.
Find an OS version that works for you and adopt it for the life of the device
Still on Android 11 take it matter of choice to update or not
users still have issues with android 12?
if you go by that, people also have problems with oos 11 and not just with oos 12. I personally use oos12 and have no problems

Both 11 and 12 are a scoped storage mess.
Android 10 was the last version where scoped storage wasn't fully active by default.
Expect the potential need for a factory reset if you upgrade to 12. You may need to change settings and find other workarounds to get it running right.
Meet the green dot.
I did it, upgraded to OOS12 and I must admit there were some things I liked better battery life. But there were changes that I really really did not like.
I needed to fall back on Nova Launcher to get some of the visuals back and vibe back.
A couple of days ago I decided to put cRdoid A12 on it. I miss some options from OOS but overall I'm happier now.

Question why do custom roms improve more performance? why are some original roms so bad?

I saw several people installing custom roms and the performance of the device improved a lot! I would like to know how these roms do it
If we talk about MIUI here it's full of bloat and far from AOSP (stock Android) and I think the focus is features, over performance.

They also clearly copy some UI Design from iOS
which is not bad... It looks good.
But my biggest problem with MIUI is that, it breaks standard Android features.
Like broken Gestures on 3rd-Party Launchers.
Or the MIUI Permission-system breaking apps like Instagram.
or MIUI's battery optimisation being too extreme...
I don't hate MIUI, but it's 很胖 (very fat)
Custom ROMs are not bad per se, but they are made for ppl who want their phone to run without gving it too much thought. MIUI is not the worst Stock ROM imho, but clearly made for John D. Noob.
If you debloat MIUI, you can get along with it if you don't need to much customization.
Btw, battery is usually best on stock ROMS in my experience.
But if you want real control over your phone, or need features that the manufacturer doesn't want you to have, you deffo need a custom ROM.
Also, you need to take into account that a manufacturer doesn't earn a penny for giving out updates and patches, so they tend to keep their fuzz to a minimum.
I usually move away from a stock rom as updates are slow to arrive.
When i was looking for a upgrade for my LG G7, i settled for the F3 because it was Very good value for money, was easy to unlock and had great Dev support on XDA.
For me the other downside of a MIUI stock rom apart from the bloat ware and slow updates, was not being able to use my Samsung Smartwatch as a trusted device, as Miui Stock would only permit Xiaomi devices.
Switching to the Evo-X rom, gave me back all the functionality I needed and is fast enough for me.

custom modifications, yes
you can reach same or more performance on stock, if you just modify it
most or all custom roms are modified by the rom dev ofcourse, that is why its got better performance than stock

Stock roms add much more functionality, then become bigger and slower
Customs roms are mostly based on AOSP, which is pure android. Less functionality = Lighter and faster rom
And for customs roms like Xiaomi.EU, well they simply edit some parts of the rom, adds fixes and remove some useless stuff, which again make the OS lightweight and faster
of course, that's more complicated in fact, and lighter rom doesnt mean faster, you can make a very heavy system work very fast with optimization. 'Optimization', you see, a word that most of roms dev like Xiaomi doesnt know about

dont go around dissing devs without knowing anything about them
pretty sure devs hired by big companies like xiaomi would know about optimizations better than any custom rom dev
when custom rom devs start making bug free roms, go around dissing stock devs as you like
If you have a sub-flagship or flagship device it doesn't matter if that's a Xiaomi or not changing your rom into custom rom is kinda useless, because the stock rom is good enough and more stable(not 100% stable) and if you longing for more performance for flashing an AOSP base rom it's kinda useless base on my experience because it only increases like 1-2% in pure stock no modifications especially in Poco F3.
For me AOSP roms are only good for midrange and lowend devices, i have spare phone here it's RN8 and i changed my rom from MIUI to AOSP and the difference is night and day my mind is blown to the ram management.
From the first day i was in ArrowOS because Miui roms was a little poor in performance, not so much fast like AOSP roms, but one day i tried one of the last stable Miui EU roms and i was impressed how good became, sound and haptics it's just much better than AOSP, autobrightness works as intended, camera it's better that Gcam and SOT it's (in my use, the same).
So i'm with the last comment, in Poco F3 i think the last MIUI EU for example isn't bad, phone runs well and all works. Just tried the last Stable MIUI 13 and now the MIUI 14 EU beta build and i think it's a little more smooth than previous build.
I think any phone with A13 will run smoother than A12.1 builds, in my old Mi A1 just noticed that (and it's too old).

Nah, dude.
They took money in advance for that. On the other hand, people buy pixel devices because they have updates guaranteed.
They do earn money from it indirectly. A lot. Otherwise it wouldn't have been a thing.
