Hello there!
I just bought the Mi Mix 2, because I wanted to get rid of my iPhone SE, the screen was just too small.
I had a Redmi 4 Prime one year ago, and I was happy with MIUI back then, but I dont like Google and want to keep the Play Services to a bare minimum (comparable to the OpenGapps Pico).
I only need the PlayStore and nothing else.
Several years ago I was a huge fan of Cyanogenmod and used it on every Phone I ever owned. Though Lineage is available for the Mix 2, I didnt like the stock Android versions which came after Kitkat. I never really got familiar with it, especially after the HoloBlue design was gone and Google tried to make the OS look more mainstream.
MIUI was very pleasant to use, but even with the xiaomi.eu ROM Google is still present with all of the services.
What ROM would you recommend for me? And which ROM are you using and why?
Sorry for my bad english!
Regards
Edit: One more question: The Redmi 4 Prime had a weird audio recording bug, where audio in videos or other recording was barely hearable and very noisy. After flashing the AICP ROM of the user unterwelt (amazing work, btw), the issue was completely gone. Back to the official MIUI ROM and it was there again. So I assume its a problem caused either by Xiaomi/MIUI or some Google services?
Anyway, is this an issue with the Mix 2? I read somewhere that it has very bad recording quality, which would be bad, because I use my phone as a recording device when Im at my way to work and so on (Im kind of a "part time" musician).

Any custom ROM is going to give u what u want, just try them. What's good for one person might not be good for u
Try MiuiPro...I flash it on several Xiaomi and everybody are happy about it
OmniRom with skizo Kernel, good battery life.
LOS and RR (based on LOS of course) have a very poor battery life atm

I'm running Lineage OS and my battery life is awesome.
8 hours screen time / 36 hours total runtime per charge.
What kind of battery life are you getting?

The official site is in Russia (the hacking, malware and ransomware capital of the world) and there is very little information about MIUIPro that I can find other than people saying its good. How is it good compared to stock or other ROMs?
I think I will give the .eu ROM a shot then, since I like MIUI. Is there any possibility to turn the Google services off? I only need the PlayStore.
Also, what about the recording sound?
Finally received my MIX 2. Looks and feels really nice!
Sadly, I have to wait for 72 hours to unlock the phone. I dont know why, because I registrated the device, but I guess its some problem with the unlock app.
Anyway, I am stuck with the global ROM for so long now. Is it worth it to "upgrade" to another rom? Because global seems to run well so far, and I guess MIUI10 is already around the corner.

That's just Xiaomi policy. Wait it out and then unlock your device.
I tried LOS and found it buggy and also significantly less smooth and responsive than MIUI 9--but for some people having stock Android is apparently worth the drop off in phone performance. There's not much risk in trying custom ROMs with this phone because it's very easy to go back to stock using the MI Flash tool.

I want to say you made a bad choice. The development via Stock ROM is very slow for the international release. You might get frustrated like most of the people at @ oppoforums

While it is slow, it's by no means a bad phone. Especially if you install a rom on it

That's really up to your preference. I like what MaxxAudio adds, and the stock camera more than exceeded my expectations. Flashing to a stock rom would lose both of those things. A lot of people in the CM12 / nameless thread praise the battery life but I've been getting similar SOT/standby times on stock without having to worry about the random instability bugs that are still coming up (1-3% overnight usually, and otherwise idle is about 0.75% an hour according to GSM - longest i've stretched it to was 70 hours standby with 4.5 hours SOT from watching Gin no Saji). As pretty as Lollipop looks, I don't really feel like it would affect my daily usage of the phone.
So decide for yourself. Screen is great, i love watching my shows on here. Can easily get through a 25 minute episode of w/e show i'm watching with only 3-4% each with H/W+ decoding, the 10 bit videos that require S/W decoding suck up about 8-9%. A 29 minute youtube video drained 7% the other day (kingdom come deliverance update). Listening to music is great too, having an SD card slot is nice compared to a lot of other flagships right now. Play a lot of Phoenix Wright on drasticDS these days, phone never really gets hot or anything and drains pretty slowly considering you're running an emulator. Listening to my audiobook over bluetooth to a speaker sips about 1% an hour while I'm working out on rings.
For the price, I don't think you will be disappointed, I certainly wasn't. But if using a stock rom, or playing around with custom roms often is something you want to do then it might be better to look elsewhere.

Absolutely not! IMO the phone is solid on it's own stock firmware. People here tend to believe if it ain't broke, fix it anyway. In a way the stock firmware out performs the custom roms at the moment because of the camera app, the Maxx audio, screen off gestures, the auto power on for an alarm. You can reasonably expect the software to update to Lolipop in March or so. I only just started messing around wit custom roms which leads me to the stock firmwares only downside In my opinion.
Oppo for some reason decided to limit the amount of storage available for apps. So forget about having both XCOM and Clash of clans on your phone at once. I am running Nameless Rom with unified storage so I'm happy now. But as soon as Lollipop ColorOS is released I'm going back to stock.
You made an excellent choice. There's talk of unified storage being in the next OTA update, so limited space for apps should be a thing of the past. If you're one of those Android obsessives desperately wanting lollipop then you will be disapointed with colorOS - they still haven't released OTA kitkat, let alone lollipop. But there are plenty of updated ROMs to manually flash. Personally, I'm perfectly content with my rooted colorOS - faultless, and who needs Viper when you've got MaxxAudio?
So, I'm still awaiting delivery of my Mi Max 32GB! (it's taken a while, but it's finally made it to the local sorting office, so should be any day now!) I've been researching general discussion around this device as well as availability of custom ROMs and I was wondering if anyone would share their opinion on the best daily driver ROM they've come across.
The main reason I'm asking is that I'll be moving from a Chinese Meizu device, the M1 Metal, that uses side-loaded Gapps since there is no Global ROM available. This has caused a ton of issues with missed emails and WhatsApp messages since the ROM is super strict on background processes. Are there any issues like this with the Global MIUI ROM for the Mi Max? Do the Gapps, Syncing, etc. work just as well as on Stock Android? Or would it be best to just move over to one of the newer RR or CM roms built from source?
Also, this will be my first Xiaomi Handset. Are there any major advantages to MIUI that I'll miss out on with Stock?
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

i have personally tested global stable(miui 7.5.6 - mbcmide) that came with the phone and i did not face any such problems.as soon i connected to my home wifi.i recieved a notification abt unread gmail within 5-10 mins,as i was browsing with 3rd party browser in foreground,so i dont think u'll face sync problems with miui

i suggest u dont install a source built rom just yet if ur looking for rock steady stability, they still have a few minor issues that might annoy you.just give a few weeks time they are getting there.the only custom rom i can suggest to you at this point is resurrection remix by ajsmsg78(which isnt built frm source; but at this point in time far better in terms of stability over source built roms) unless volte is important to you.then in that case u better stick with stock miui

if ur talking abt the advantages of miui over custom roms(stock android style like cm).the most prominent i can think of are hardware supported one-hand mode, volte, dual apps(in miui 8)

Hey wingryder,
Thanks for the advice. I think you're right about the source built ROMs, I'll keep an eye on progress and might make the switch somewhere down the line. And one-handed mode is definitely a bonus, switching to a 6.4" screen is going to be a pretty big jump, even coming from a 5.5". Think I'll stick with MIUI to begin with, just to get a feel for the device. Thanks again!

No, just a complication with two products in the same order being dispatched from two different warehouses, plus I made a change to the original order, so kinda my fault too, hah. When it finally dispatched it only took a week to arrive! What shipping method have you used? Mine was sent via standard shipping from Gearbest.

MIUI8 Global is fine for daily use, quite snappy but apps are aggressively killed. The DPI is also very high so text and icons look too big for my tastes. Am using RR 5.7.4 and battery life is as good as MIUI8 and it's snappy. Also supports DPI changes very well so that's a plus.
It have been almost a year since mi max 3 came out. Why there is such poor development, people are not interested in it compared to max and max 2.
There is no single custom rom for mi max 3.Xiaomi is way too slow with updates.I have a feeling that for an average Joe in Android community the better option is ios ecosystem. At least you can't go wrong with os support and regular updates. And there will always be an jailbreak if you want to go custom. Apple or jailbreak community have insanely way way way better support compared to Android. Did also anyone noticed annoying ads on Miui that xiaomi is pushing on their integrated system apps ,is driving me crazy.
The xiaomi.eu rom is custom, isnt it?
And do we need custom roms if we have treble?
A great kernel would be awesome
Something developed just for the Mi Max3 is always better than a GSI
I'm using HavocOS right now and there hasn't been a real update to it since last October.

Yes, there are some things that don't work as good with a "vanilla" treble instead of a rom with blobs just for this device.
Some of which are bad enough for me to go back to xiaomi.eu rom instead.
The most notable things are
Viper4android, when the screen is off there is a stutter and change in volume when the module is killed and started again and this happens every few minutes which gets annoying and I instead played music from my laptop while working.
This was a common thing back with lollypop and kitkat on other phones back in the day but not as annoying as with the mi max 3.
On xiaomi.eu this is nonexistent which is kind of unusual, the rom is unusual stable with Viper4android.
Volte does not work on treble of course, but on pie based treble you will get hsdpa data connection when calling.
On aicp-mordiford the data connection shut off completely without hsdpa data while calling.
How is GPS performance for you on havoc?
For me I get four satellites in a village with poor signal to all off them which is not enough for a position lock.
I have been driving one time and I lost GPS several times.
On Xiaomi.eu GPS is working flawlessly with a lock immediately even indoors in a concrete building.
If you have a generic board like a pixel device or one plus you probably can get a fairly working device but xiaomi does things differently and depends on a custom rom for working volte
I generally don't care, stock ROMs used to be terrible and lack many feature. The stock Xiaomi rom does exactly what is needed for me so I find no need to flash potentially unstable ROMs on my device. I used to flash weekly even daily. I don't need to anymore.
all we need just pie kernel since EU rom has been amazing for me
GPS hasn't been very good for me since I switched away from xiaomi.eu rom. I'm also using micro-g so I can't blame havoc.
Hello everyone.
I was wondering what ROM you guys are using for the best possible battery results? (SOT)
I used to be a gamer and recently quit all games I've been playing. I'm currently using a mi globe rom.
I also changed my battery like 2 weeks ago but the problem still persisted.
The battery drain is devastating.
Even with the screen off, it drains like mad.
I want some recommendations about a ROM that will give me good battery results, be it official/unofficial or MIUI/custom, it doesn't really matter for me.
I like both.
I think ur battery is dying, and U should replace it. Check for few days battery status by AccuBattery from google store.
How is my battery dying, man? Did you read the post? I just changed my battery 2 weeks ago with a brand new one. It's just the ROM that drains the battery.
Oh, i'm sorry. I missed it...
Hello, my gf's mi6's battery seems to be going downhill but she's had it for about 3 years so it seems normal, I'll have to change it soon - one thing that has helped is flashing Paranoid Android ("Quartz 3") to limit drain on the OS side. Since you seem to be playing a lot of games, your battery running out quicker than usual seems normal to me, but give Paranoid Android a try, it's better than MIUI roms imo (I've got a k20 pro on Quartz 3 as well).
Hmm, I see. No, I don't play games anymore.
If you see my post above, I said that I've quit all the games I've been playing in the past.
I'm just using normal and social media apps like Facebook, Instagram etc.
Guess I'll give that a try. Did you change the kernel to a custom one or something? Also, what firmware did you flash before installing Quartz?
Or did you just flash a fastboot official ROM then wipe data + cache, and installed Quartz?

I am in your situation, have you found a ROM with low consumption?
i think i will install:
- Evolution X
- Rev 0S Miui
- Paranoid
- Pixel Experience
I'm just looking for low battery consumption and having Gcam.
I have literally tried countless things for my phone and I'm honestly left without options anymore. Even though i love MI 6, this battery issue has led me to think about buying another phone. Charging your phone 2 times a day has destroyed the purpose of a "mobile phone".
I've tried Android paranoid, epic rom, havoc os, pixel experience etc, yet no rom left me satisfied as far as the battery is concerned.

I have again obtained a better battery result with the original ROM, changing it for a NOHON. But I think that the latest version of original ROM has excessive drainage. I think a Nohon + custom Rom battery can solve our problem. Have you changed the battery for a Nohon?
Of all those ROMS you tried, did any give you better results?

I'm pretty sure the results were almost identical with all roms I've tried, sadly.
I've changed my battery like a month ago with an original one, not NOHON, so it's practically brand new. Yet the battery still drains like mad even with the screen closed. It's just unbelievable. I really have no clue as to what to do anymore.

Xiaomi does not have original batteries for sale, they are all fake. Fortunately with this brand of battery I can give this mi6 more life. I in your case would try this brand.

If you wanna use Miui, install Xiaomi Eu Miui 11 stable for mi6. It has the best battery life I've seen on mi6.
Else if you wanna use AOSP/CAF, just wait for Paranoid Android Quartz 4. It's the best daily driver for mi6 right now.

Hello Im hasnt be here for last 4 months and Im dont know what is actualy best stable custom rom.....
Any advice?
Thanks for reply.
Bliss rom I'm using good
I'm using Pixel Experience - the official version. Gone are the RAM management problems and multitasking stutters. Battery life tho seems slightly worse than the stock ROM. Heard that it will be updated to Android 11, so I'm gonna stick around for awhile.
Thanks for answers
Thanks for the answers too.

I tried a couple of custom ROM's (Pixel Experience, Pixel Experience plus, Havoc and crDROID) without rooting and in all cases my banking apps still worked.
However, Android Auto failed to connect properly to my car in all cases so I switched back to stock.
Of all flavours I tried, PE plus offered the most extras, FWIW.
Interesting, I thought you had to root to install a custom ROM... I will look into that, as I believe it is the root that creates issues for banking apps.
Yes, I have Pixel Experience on my Redmi Note 5 Pro, it is awesome really, would like it on my Mi A2 Lite, but need to be able to do my banking in it.
Thanks for the reply though, interesting.
