ISSUE Have to restart phone to charge - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

Has anyone else had an issue where the phone won't start charging until you restart the device? I can plug the cable into the device and it will do nothing at all. I have tried multiple different cables and plug and everyone of them reacts the same way.
Randomly starting happening about a week ago on my phone. I have did a full factory reset without installing any apps incase it was an app that is causing it but it still has the issue.

Never had that issue.. but if it is still under warranty, I would do a RMA. Or take it to your cell provider, let them check it out.. Could be a bad charging port believe it or not.. I had a phone with a bad port.. All you had to do was place it down gently, and it would automatically reboot. Different than what your experiencing, but does sound like a bad port.

Had to restart phone to charge
Hey Liam
I also experienced this issue and it would annoy me, but not at the level at which my cell provider did. Got my handset in July last year, and by the 1st week of December, my ThinQ began its routine.
Apparently it is due to scuff or water in your Type-C port. I was also told that it was caused by using alternative Type-C cables. I was also advised to format my ThinQ and the issue would disappear.
Instead, I began charging my ThinQ with its original cable again, but I would make sure to power it off and allow for a 100% charge. I did this everyday for the past two weeks, and just today, my phone prompted that the G7 Quick Charger was not a Quick Charger client. Funny enough, my ThinQ has not flagged any false charging since I powered it on. Currently at 75% battery-life, 6hrs standby.
Try my work-around, but I am still a bit skeptic seeing as today is the only day I have not seen a false charge, furthermore, download the Malwarebytes app to make sure there is no 'insecurity' lurking in your system files. But I am not gonna lie, if my ThinQ restarts its false charging mambo-jambo, I will seriously consider @doubledragon5's advice.

Found a Legit Work-Around
Hey @liamc3000 & @doubledragon5
So I did some more sniffing on YouTube, and I came across this video from McMonster productions titled " LG V30 Moisture detect fix!!! ". You might want to give it a lick.
NB: Just make sure you do not allow your port to get in contact with scuff or water in future, unless you are 110% sure the port is clear and dry.
Essentially, dial the following to access the LG Secret Menu: *#546368#*710# (If you have a LG G710EM handset)
Select the SVC Menu > Scroll down to the bottom of the page > Select Moisture Detect Setting > Disable ( Mine was initially set to null ), and voila!
Hope this works out for you too!

Hi Guys,
I have a LG G7 One and I recently started having the same charging issue where every night I have to soft reset (switch off -> hold power and volume key) to get to it start charging. I tried the above solution posted by n1ckh0ele but I am unable to access the "SVC" menu on this phone. Can someone please guide me how to disable moisture detect setting for LG G7 One?
Thanks

Maybe, but i say maybe this is because LG G7 is LMG710EM (or other variant, but 710 is important), that's why code is *#546368#*710#
LG G7 One is LMQ910UM or something, so try *#546368#*910# code. Maybe that will help.

Thanks, but no luck. I keep getting "Connection problem or invalid MMI code" error. I read somewhere that I need official LG dialer for these codes to work. My phone (LG G7 One) is pure android version .

I'm on lineageOS right now, with LG G7 LMG710EM, and using google dialer, and you're right. That code doesn't work.
So it's require to have lg dialer and/or lg framework for something.

[Q] Help Req: LG G3 (Korean) Unrooting Problems?

Dear Members,
I have a troublemaker here. An LG G3 (Korean version). Though which one exact cannot be known because the device has been rooted (using TowelRoot most likely) and now running a software completely unfit for this device.
I am trying to unroot this phone using the LG PC Suite to take it back to stop. As much as I've researched online, it seems like the easiest and simplest way to go bone stock. P.S. I wasnt the one to root it in the first place, the guy who did, had very little idea what he was doing.
Problem No. 1: Phone stops responding when USB is plugged in (charger and laptop) - not an issue at the moment
Problem No. 2: The phone will not go into 'Download Mode', simply returns a black screen with few diagnosis options in Chinese. Got those translated and its completely irrelevant - will this be an issue?
Problem No. 3: Unable to use the LG Flash Tool because holding the Volume Up button while inserting USB simply restarts the phone - will this be an issue?
Problem No. 4: When i check my IMEI number online, it shows up as an HTC M8. But under 'Settings', 'About Phone' it says I'm using an LG D855 - does this mean the wrong ROM/Firmware has been installed?
Problem No. 5: The phone is not being detected by the PC Suite. In the computer, it shows up as a media device, but that's it. I've tried leaving the phone in MTP Mode for 10-20 seconds and pressing the MTP mode option again (many articles on the internet said it works) but all in vain. Of course anti-virus etc is disabled - this is my main issue at the moment.
I'm guessing if the phone is at least detected by the PC Suite, that will be be one major hurdle cleared. Any pointers? Does anyone know what I'm talking about or has faced the same issue? Help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards
What does it say under software build in system settings?
From your second screenshot it looks like its a clone
Sorry
The back panel (battery cover) should also say what model it is, as well as the sticker under the battery

So far a clone is the most reasonable explanation for this

The battery cover says LG D815, unfortunately there is no sticker under the battery :S

Having established that it's not a D855 (or G3 anyway), is there a workaround? Is there any other program besides LG PC Suite that can detect this phone and re-flash to stock ROM? Thank you for your help guys
Theres nothing you can do im afraid. You could try selling it to a unsuspecting second hand store but i wouldnt recommend it
They heavily edited systemui.apk to give it the LG G3 feel and you cant change it unless you know how to compile your own AOSP roms
I know that feeling, i got scammed 550 AUD for a iPhone that was running KitKat. I was so pissed off that i threw it in the bin

You're absolutely right that there's nothing to be done. I wouldn't try selling it to anyone else myself. Bin is the right place

Screen remains black but calls, text messages and WhatsApp messages receivable

I bought my beloved Huawei Mediapad M2 in January 2016.
After a recent sabotage, I had to send the tab for repairs because the LCD wasn't functioning. But a few days ago, my Mediapad M2's screen flickered although I already retrieved the tab from our local Huawei authorised centre and then the screen turned off when I received a phone call from my family so I can't pick up the call because I can't see whatever that is on the screen, how to fix this without having all my data becomes wiped out again? Yes, I have a lot of work saved in this tab.
Before you ask further about memory card, thing is, nope -- I don't use any, all files are saved directly into the internal storage of the Mediapad M2. I know the tab is still working because when I tried calling my number (which is in the tab) from another phone, the tab rings. So does when messages come in. And when I plug in the headphones I can listen to music from my tab.
I want to backup my files before re-sending the tab to the service centre because they might wipe off all data again upon rectifying the issue, but before that happens, how do I suppose to do the backup when I can't even see what's shown on the screen (because the Huawei HiSuite software installed in the PC requires confirmation of the tab being connected to the PC by touching on an OK button which is supposed to show up on the tab)?
Please help, thank you in advance.
I have the same problem
Did the screen turns like grey after a while ???????
Hmmm.... this seems to be a fairly common issue, from what I can see in my searches. Most of the threads I saw in my searches (see "references" below) recommend trying the following things. DISCLAIMER: I have not tried any of these methods; you try them at your own risk.
- Try a hard reset - keep the power button pressed until the phone reboots.
- Press VOLUP + POWER and see if that fixes the issue.
- Press VOLUP+VOLDN+POWER to boot into recovery and see if that fixes the screen issue.
- Let the battery completely drain (do not charge it for a couple of days) and see if it fixes the issue (note: this is a modification of a solution where people remove the battery, let the phone sit for 10 minutes and then replace the battery. Since we cannot remove the battery on the M2, we should just drain the power).
- This may sound stupid, but give the phone a couple of smacks. If it is some loose connection in your screen connector, this may (temporarily) fix the issue.
If everything fails, you may need to take it back to the store and allow them to factory-erase it.

I got it
So it's a problem on the flex cable that conect the motherboard to the screen, it cost like 9$.
And if when your tablet was ok you had "automatic scyn" on, when you reinstall all over again if you pay attention from what google say, it's like have your tablet with the same things.
I have this problem too
Did you already solve this problem?
I had the same issue. But you have to repair it yourself. Or have it done by someone who knows how to do it. The touchscreen is attached to the body of the tablet by a connector cable. This is probably broken.
You can order spare parts for this tablet online.
I found mine on ebay and AliExpress.
It is also possible the touch part of your screen, or the whole screen (LCD part and touch part) is broken. All parts are easily replacable!
If you need any further help on how to do this there are videos on youtube.
Good luck and I can post more specific details if necessary.

LG G4-NOTHING works!

Hi everybody, first I want to thank all devs for their work! It's greatly appreciated, Thank you!
Alrighty then I have the USCC LG G4 running or was running US99122a. Three days ago it's started to restart when ever it wanted to no matter what the battery level was at, plugged in or not just up and restart, then very shortly after it would restart with in the very first minute of being fully booted. Then shortly after that it just went into a bootloop and is now stuck on the LG screen. I have tried everything that I can find on the internet with absolutely no success of any sort. Ive went in to reset mode using voldown+power and when say yes to final warning it just stays on that screen like its frozen then eventually reboots back to being stuck on LG screen. LGUP does not work, it doesnt find it's model number. it knows what com and us99122a but unknown for model. Lg flashtool stops at 9% during s/w upgrade and either says lost connection with server OR needs/ask administrator permission (something like that but meaning the same thing) I've read that when it does don't disconnect don't do anything and after 15 to hour later presto good to go but no, no presto. I decided to ask you guys after leaving it like that for little more then 24 hours now. I need serious help as I cant afford another phone and my g4 was everything. Internet, tv, movies, work, research literally everything through miracast PLEASE HELP and thank you!
Only fix for that is a board replacement or warranty. Google LG G4 bootloop it's a common and known issue.

little update for ya after trying LG UP and another LG software install pc program and 2 other android firmware versions all it would do is freeze at 9% then nothing no matter what i tried OTHER than finally getting hard bricked. (pc said when connected corrupted device not recognizing it) So I am now a firm believer in and advise to others with this problem if you're able to get it replaced through LG do it cause that is the only fix. Even tho I could of had replaced I didnt do that, instead I grabbed my 30-30 deer hunting rifle and blasted one lonely hole!!, Yes a hole and I tell you what the screen on the G4 is superb ! besides immediately around the bullet hole it didnt even spiderweb. id say 65-70% of the screen was still crack free!! no joke!

LG G8 ThinQ (Verizon) can't connect via USB to PC

This has been driving me insane. I upgraded from a G6 yesterday.
When I connect the G8 to my PC the Android System notification "Tap to change USB options" does not come up in the notification shade, so of course it stays in the default "charging only" mode and the PC can't recognize it.
It's not the USB cable. I tried several and they all work with other phones flawlessly. Also updated the LG universal driver on my PC (Win 10) just in case.
I have USB debugging enabled in the Developer Options and while there is also a "select USB configuration" option, it doesn't work!
The menu comes up for a split second and instantly disappears...
Does anyone else have this problem? So far I really like this phone, but no USB connectivity which means no USB tethering or adb or just even moving large media files around etc etc is just not something I can tolerate.
For anyone curious, after talking with LG the phone was returned. It was most likely a faulty charging port.
Already have a replacement phone and it doesn't have any of the above USB issues.
I have the exact same issue right now, after 2 years of use of the phone!
Have been trying for a day to find a solution and I couldn't...
2 weeks ago, the battery wouldn't charge fast... from the 'usual' 1.5 hour that it was taking, it now takes 4-5 hours... I thought it was the battery, so today I just received the new one and I was about to change it... I thought of making a backup first, which I did... I wanted to transfer it to my PC for safety but I just can't... it's not the cable (tried other phones), it's not my PC (tried it on another PC and my laptop)...
I now see this post... so I guess I have to be patient enough for another 2 weeks to order and receive a new Charging port...
I really don't want to change my phone... have been using LG for more than a decade now, and I really don't know what to buy next... all else are either way too expensive or just of way lower quality...
Thanks for the update dear Neera!
PS: battery takes too long to get charged, but its use life remains as is... so I didn't think that would be the problem, but couldn't figure out what else it could be...I will need a new one soon anyways, so it's good to have it and change it together with the new charging port...

[Solved] [LG G4 H815] Stock MM stuck on logo screen after stability update

Hi guys,
this is the second time that LG bricked my phone. I updated my g4 and now it won't boot up anymore. Installed was Android 6.0 and the last security patch was from 2016-08-01. Software version was V20h-EUR-xx. I already had the fun of having the famous bootloop and a screen burn in, so i basically got a new phone in early 2018. Mid 2018 i got the notification of a software update (it said something like stability update and was just 50 MB big) but I didn't have the time to back up my stuff properly so I delayed it till yesterday. Two days ago I was preparing myself for the upcoming android 11 devices, so I saved my photos etc and got most of the stuff out of my phone, then I did a backup through the onboard app (LG bridge won't recognize the phone most of the time and if it does it tries to save the backup temporarily on the phone, which didn't work because of low memory space(on a sidenote wth is the g4 doing with all the memory space anyway)) and saved it on the sd card. After that I updated the phone. A screen appeared with with software update process (1/2) and (2/2) and both completed succesfully. After the reboot it got stuck on the LG animation logo, this is a screen right after the "lg powered by android" screen, and it is stuck there since. I tried to get into recovery mode but was unable to do so.
So yes I have a backup, but afaik no user data gets saved in the app backup, am i correct? This is the reason why I haven't tried to hard reset yet. I thought maybe some bright minds in this forum know a way or solution to this problem.
I have read a little bit about LGUP and TWRP but i don't know if this will help. And i don't know which firmwire i need cause there is a bunch with H815.
What I'm asking is, is there a way to restore the phone without losing my data that is still on the phone?
sry for the long text, let me know if you need additional info
greetings Johnny
tl;dr: LG is producing garbage, please help
UPDATE 1
I was able to get into download mode.
Plug the USB Cable into the PC(not connected to the LG G4)
Have you PC Powered On and Logged in
Power Down the LG G4
Press and Hold the Volume Up Button on the LG G4
While Holding Volume Up, Plug the USB Cable into the LG G4
Continue Holding the Volume Up Button After You See ‘Download Mode’
Let Go of the Volume Up Button When You See the ‘Firmware Update’ Screen on the G4
Right now I'm trying to do the update via LG Bridge and the download mode.
Funnily the update is now 1,68 GB in size while on the phone the size was roughly 50MB iirc.
My free memory space is only about 4GB, so i hope this will suffice.
UPDATE 2
The installation was sucessful but only on my second try. The first time it failed at 81%, so I did it again as I was told via LG Bridge and followed the instruction steps. The second time it worked. After rebooting I got the screen that 80 apps are getting optimized. Took nearly 40 minutes. After that I got in and did a quick check if everthing was alright, saw that some apps weren't installed, so I restarted it and the rest got optimized. Power off again, sim and sd card plugged in and power on. Now everything seems alright and if I'm not mistaken battery life has improved.
So in the end it was a failed update caused by LG and fixed by LG Bridge.
BUT in the meantime I contacted LG customer support and it turns out customer support is on par with their update policy, non existent!
Talked to a guy who didn't understand what I wanted from him, so he gave me a number where I could call. Called there, turned out it's the company who repaired my phone when I had the bootloop and screen burn in. After asking them about technical support, they told me they don't do that, they only repair. I understood, so phoned LG again. The same guy picked up again (is he the only one there?), so I asked again. This time he googled my questions and told me he can't find on google what i'm asking. I thought he has to be kidding but he was serious. No blame to this guy though, he is first level support and obviously not qualified to answer such questions, so I asked if he could redirect me to someone who could answer my questions and help me. Therefore he let me wait in the line to call a colleague so he could tell him my problem and then told me the answer of his colleague. I wasn't satisfied so I insisted to talk to this colleague of him, he said it wasn't possible because of technical reasons, but he phoned his colleague and but both phones together so we could talk (wth haha). Needles to say I didn't understand anything and I was absolutely bewildered about what was going on and the state of the LG support. I tried to convince this guy the he was of no help to me so if I just could call this other guy or be called by him would really help me. Finally he understood and gave in. He wrote down my number and five minutes later the other guy called. Well he was of no help either. Couldn't really answer my questions but could at least explain two things of interest to me. I am still shocked of the state of the LG "support". Don't they have guys who know their products and their software?
Thankfully everthing is fine now and I definitely know that I won't buy an LG smartphone ever again.
(The camera and the screen were really nice though)
greetings Johnny
