Can't sync TiBu from Google Drive to Pixel 2 XL - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

All:
Just updated to a custom ROM and did a user app backup using Titanium that I synced across to Google Drive. Now that I've completed the ROM installation, I'd like to retrieve my user apps. I can see the files on Google Drive, but TiBu is not behaving properly when I select the 'Sync to Google Drive' schedule.
I notice that it is prompting me each time that I select the option to Login to Google Drive, which is not typical behavior, but I'm not getting an error/warning either. I'm going to remove and re-install TiBu to see if that helps. Has anyone seen anything like this? Running latest version of Nitrogen ROM and ElemX kernel.

I might just be too lazy to figure it out...
But, I have never been able to restore from Google Drive.
Nor has a sync function ever worked in any direction except from devce to the cloud.
Whenever I performed a restore of the type you are referring to I always DL'd my TiBU folder from drive to my phone locally.
Then restored.

I started using swift backup and it's been outstanding!! The pro version was 6 bucks and worth every cent.
It works flawlessly with Google drive too. There is a free version available too.

Thanks for your reply. I finally got it to work with another ROM, not sure if the issue was ROM related or possibly tighter security from Google. I've never had a problem with syncing back from the cloud, although I'll admit that it is a bit non-intuitive when using it.

[Q] Problems with Calendar sync(I've searched and searched). Can anyone help?

I realize there have been many threads on this, so my apologies for starting a new one. But many that I read were either outdated, or just the same info that wouldn't work for me.
I have a rooted Kindle fire, Market is installed, GMail, etc. All working gloriously. Also, I can get the Calendar app to install. However, I can't get it to sync.
I have followed instructions very closely and even tried a couple of different variations(I have a backup image that I use to restore after each one). I have made sure the calendar sync apk file is in the right place, permissions set, etc.
Is there something I'm missing? When I go into the Calendar app, it doesn't let me add events or select calendars though I do have multiple calendars on my Google account.
If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate the help! Thanks!
Brent
you need to add GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk
There is info on this page:

Thanks, but I already have that in place. In fact, I have tried multiple versions of that file that I've found, including the one on the page you linked to.
I go into Root Explorer, copy that file, go into my system/app folder, mount for R/W, paste the file, change permissions to all read and the top middle write, then unmount back to RO, restart device.......no luck.
Is that process incorrect? I'm assuming it's something that I'm doing wrong since many people have gotten it working with the same files. But what could it be?
I installed the file mentioned above BEFORE installing the calendar app, and I always reboot after changing permissions, etc.
Any other ideas?
Brent
If it helps, my calendars don't even show up for sync in the Account Settings that I access using the GMail app. I do have the option to sync Picasa, Gmail, and Books, and all options are checked. But no calendar option.
So somehow, my calendars are still not being seen for whatever reason, despite doing everything exactly as instructed.
I'm so confused!

I set my permissions on GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk to 777, full open, read/write/execute as the instructions said. Try that.
If that doesn't fix it I would start over from scratch, find a good tutorial and be sure to add everything you need and set the correct permissions. It is possible that you installed a corrupt file or made a small error along the way.

Yep, already tried that with no luck.
As I mentioned, I'm sure that I'm missing something, but I've read through dozens of pages of people figuring this out, and nothing has worked for me. I've tried different packages and started over from scratch numerous times.
Everything works except for Calendar sync, including Mail sync, Books sync, etc. Market works and all other applicable Google apps. Which makes it even more confusing.

maybe this thread can help you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481055
Thanks. I did go through that thread, but will venture through it again to see if I missed anything. If nothing else, I'll just try everything again to see if something clicks. At this point, I think I've been through every thread and every method, but who knows.
Brent
Well, tried everything all over again, and still no luck.
There has to be something I'm missing. There is nothing different with my Fire than anyone else's. It's rooted with BurritoRoot and this is the first thing I try each time I restore to the freshly rooted system.
Outside of the calendar sync apk, do I need to move any other files to the system/app folder? Maybe another file I could be missing?
Any other ideas?

Hmmmm, mine works. I had rooted first with buritoroot, then lost root with the 6.2.2 update, then rooted with burittoroot2. I had the calender sysching under both version of the stock rom 6.2.1 and 6.2.2. All I ever did was place the calendarsyncadapter in the correct directory, change the permissions and it worked....
Going out on a limb here because it sounds like you're doing everything right...
Have you tried using your Fire in a different location? Like a friend's house or mcdonald's? The reason I ask is just that maybe for some reason your wireless network is doing something to the traffic going to google's servers for the calendar syncing.
Also I would be curious if the pocket informant app works for you. It says it syncs with your google calendar but for me that appears to only work when I have the calendarsyncadapter installed and working. So it would be a good test to see whether the google calendar app itself is the issue. Unfortunately it's a pay app (I got it when it was FAOTD).

Yeah, very strange. I did just that, putting the googlecalendarsyncapadapter.apk into the system/app folder and changing permissions to match the rest of the folder, but no luck. I've tried so many times and nothing.
I still Google around, but can't find anything else I haven't tried. It's driving me absolutely nuts!

I actually own PI(bought it a few days ago, actually), and it's a great app, but no, it doesn't work. I can use it with it's own built in calendar, but it won't sync to Google since I have no calendars available on my Fire.
I have used it in more than on location and have had no luck, btw. So it's not the network.
Baffling!

did you try with "any cut" - account and sync settings ?

allthrough this should not be necessary but who knows ...

Yes, I have used it. It actually takes you to the same account and sync settings that can be accessed through the GMail app. When I tried Any Cut(a great app, btw), I still didn't have the checkbox for syncing calendar, just the mail and other items.
It's all just very strange since every other Google app works(which tells me the framework is fine), and I can bring up the screen to select calendars in the calendar app, but there are none there.
I'm running out of hope for this. It's possible I'll just have to do a ROM flash with a "full" Android version.
Does anyone know if I could copy the calendar sync apk from my HTC Evo or anything(since my phone obviously syncs fine)? Would they be significantly different versions or possibly mess anything up?
Brent
when you take care of the permissions nothing bad should happen
would just give it a try - can't be more that it don't work

Yeah, I'll just have to try it again. It's a bummer because I've been able to get pretty much everything else to work that I want, including alternative text input methods with handwriting recognition! So if I could get the calendar to work, I would be very happy!
Brent
Another thought - you didn't lose the case of the filename did you? i.e. it's not literally googlecalendarsyncadapter.apk, but GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk right?

Good suggestion, but no, I kept the file as-is, and just checked to be sure.
I'm curious, but should I place anything in the data/apps directory? I know that with some things, such as alternative keyboards, I need to place a file in there as well. I tried it with the calendar, but no luck. However, maybe I did the wrong files or something?
One more question, is it possible to uninstall everything related to the calendar and sync without deleting each file or restoring the system? Can I wipe the device of anything calendar related? Not sure how many folders it places files into.
Also, and this is probably a longshot, but can I use my recovery program to run the signed gapps file from the CM7 thread? Will that place everything correctly? Or will it only work with the CyanogenMod?
Brent
Also, just for reference, I even tried a couple of times using the Kindle Fire Utility to install the Google apps, and it still didn't work. Surely THAT would have done it right?

Using Titanium Backup

Hey everyone,
I've spend about 3 hours researching these forums and tinkering tonight and I'm at wits end. Help would be appreciated. I am trying to get all of my phone's apps onto the KF.
Here is what happened...
Preface) I used KFU 0.95 to root my phone and install Google services. I synched my Google account
A) 6.3.1 update unrooted my phone. I used KF Utility to restore root.
B) Several apps in my Google Play Store are coming up as "incompatible with this device" (were doing this before step A as well), but I want to install them on the KF.
C) I used by Android Phone and Titanium Backup Pro to sync my backups to Google Drive (which takes a long time, btw).
D) I opened Google Drive on the KF and selected files that end in .apk.gz (which is the actual app, right) one at a time - can more be selected at once?
E) Astro File Manager opens to my system/app folder, but when I go to put it in there, it says "no file selected" - so nothing gets installed on the KF.
F) It's late and I'm not sure how else to go about getting these apps to the KF.
Thanks in advance!

Download the backups from drive, and download titanium on your fire. Move the ti backups to the titanium backup>backups folder. And run restore from titanium
sent from my Nokia 5110
OK, Thanks. I have TiBu on my Fire, but when I double click on the file in Google Drive to download it, Astro File Manager comes up. When it takes me to a destination folder directly after that, and I hit "OK", AFM says "no file selected"...why would it do that?
Also, when I do my backup, it gives my a lot of files, some ending in .tar.gz, .properties, and of course the apk.gz - is this normal? Should I only try to DL the apk.gz?

I recently did a backup using TiBu from MoDaCo to an ICS ROM. There should likely be 3 files per app you are backing up (I did Dead Space). The 3 files should end with: .apk.gz, tar.gz, and .properties. I downloaded all 3. I then went into TiBu and went into Batch from the menu. Under batch, I verified the backups and then restored. Hope that helps a bit.
How did you dl them, what program/app did you use?

The full (paid) version of TiBu lets you integrate with Box/Dropbox/Google Drive, so you could use one of those. In my case, I actually just connected the KF to my PC and copied the files over and then back once I had changed ROMs. Either will work, but the files need to end up at least in the Titanium Backups folder when you're ready to restore (I think, there may be a way to change backup locations in TiBu settings, I just haven't messed with it).
I have the paid version. I'm still trying how to get this stuff from Google Drive and onto the Kindle. What folders did you use to move the files? Do you have to move all three or just the .apk?
You have to move all 3 files for TB to load them up for restore. Sdcard/titaniumbackup/files go here

So, I just need to run a "batch", "restore" and they will be functioning?
Assuming they show up you can batch restore, or restore app or app+ data per app from the bottom of the list in the backup restore tab.
Restoring apps + data across different roms is not generally a good idea, I usually do app only. Certain apps I do data restore, and I'm always watching for issues caused by it.

Is this the easiest way to get the apps that are listed as "incompatible with this device" added to a rooted 6.3.1 KF? It seems really complicated and time consuming.

For that you can side load an apk file and run it from any file manager, it'll install aside from any app specific problems. Side load is basically sourcing the app apk you want, plopping it somewhere on the device then installing it. I'll leave how to get those apps up to you and google.
Should keep in mind, it says incompatible for a reason, it may just not work on any given rom/device.

[Q] CWM backup causes device-manager problems

Good evening,
I just bought a second (used) Galaxy Nexus as a reserve and restored a CWM Backup from my main device.
So far no problem, but both in the Play Store and in the android device-manager, the two devices get listed as only one.
When I install apps using my desktop PC and the Play Store, the app ends up on both devices, and when i let the device-manager call the device, also both devices ring.
I would prefer if every device have got its own entry
Deleting and re-entering my Google Account on the reserve-device wasn't a solution, exactly like the un- and re-installing of the Google device-manager-app.
Do you know how Google identifies the devices and i can fix the problem?
Have you changed your device host name?
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
Thanks, but it didn't help, i added a "new" to the hostname, rebooted the device, deleted and re-added my google account, but there is still no change in the device-manager

Make sure Titanium Backup is installed. Then remove all Google accounts.
Open Titanium Backup -> Menu -> Under Your Device "Manage Android ID" -> Create new (random) Android ID
Hopefully this works.
Mh, thanks, but it didn't help either...
I installed Titanium Backup, deleted the google Account, rebooted the device, created a new Android ID, rebooted again and added the google account again, but the android device manager still knows only one device.

Can't log into Google from HTC 10

Hi, a few weeks ago I tried to get a new app so went to my Google Play account and it wouldn't let me open it, kept asking me to log in. Anyway I eventually left it as it was driving me nuts but since then none of my apps will update and none of my Google accounts will backup, the most important one being my photos. I can't use Google to seach either. I can log in to my account on all other devices just not my phone. I also tried to connect my phone to my laptop to backup my photos as I'm thinking I'm going to have to do a hard reset but all my older photos were showing but not the newer ones that I have taken and you can view on my phone.
Can anyone help as this is driving me crazy.
Thanks

What are you using to view your files? A file explorer or HTC Sync Manager? I would use the former.
If that doesn't show all your stuff, then I would use TWRP to backup everything or to copy files onto an external SD card and then plug that into the computer to copy everything before running an RUU and resetting everything, which is what I would do.

Backup file in drive, but phone states no file associated with Google Account

Aloha!
As per the title, I haven't encountered this before. OTA to Android 10 performed, no longer rooted. Back up performed from settings, definitely completed. Can see said backup file in google drive on both mobile and desktop however upon setting up the phone from a clean flash just now, it states no backup associated with my google account.
Things I've tried -
adb shell bmgr list sets - no restore sets found
Reverted to android 9 - no associated backups found
Updated from 9 to 10 via OTA (as had done originally) and tried to set up from backup - no associated backups found
Tried clean flashes of both Android 10 images, one ending 19 and one ending 20. Same situation.
I thought it could be something to do with android version etc, but have backed up this morning as my drive shows.
Just wondering what went wrong or if I'm now simply out of luck.
It's things like my text messages I'm upset at losing etc
Anybody able to shed some light on this? I've had a quick search around but came up short so apologies.
Thanks in advance
info added in main post
I'm having the opposite problem. I can get my phone to back up, but it doesn't show up in Google Drive. I did have to uninstall Magisk 19.3 for the backup feature to work at all. I spent an hour with Google support trying to remedy this, but it didn't work.
Backup used to show up in Drive, and restore just fine. I figure it was one of the monthly updates, I just don't know which one. I really wanted a backup before upgrading to Android 10.
Really odd. I had no issues backing up, and it's still sat in Google Drive now, but nada, apparently no backups associated.
Wish there was a button there in drive that said restore.
Tried on my partner's phone as well which has never been touched in terms of root or bootloader unlocked. Still claims no backups associated.
Completely at a loss. Haven't tried Google support honestly but didn't think they'd be able to assist
