Battery drain after damaging fingerprint sensor - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi,
unfortunately I damaged my Note 5 (whyred). It was bended and the fingerprint sensor got damaged (small cut in the sensor area). I bended it back in his previous shape and the phone looks normal again besides the damaged fingerprint sensor. The sensor doesn't work anymore and there are no entries for it in the phone menu anymore like this phone doesn't have such sensor.
My problem now is that my note 5 drains big amount of battery life in idle state. Over night there is a drop about 30% which is not normal. I couldn't detect any wakelocks, so I think the problem might be the damaged fingerprint sensor. Maybe the phone tries to recognize the fingerprint sensor all the time which is the root for the battery drain? I already tried to delete all apps and services belonging to the fingerprint sensor, but this didn't solve the problem.
Does anyone can help me or have an idea to solve the drain problem? Maybe there is a better way to disabled the damaged fingerprint sensor?
edit: I'm using the newest MIUI 10.

Maybe there's some issue in your battery because drain is very high and check on youtube there are many tutorials for opening the back of 5 pro, open back and disconnect fingerprint from slot

[Q] Proximity sensor calibration

I am having an issue with my proximity sensor and believe it may be some sort of calibration issue. It works (ie when I am in calls, if I cover it with my finger, it shuts off the screen) but the sensitivity has become very poor. I've had the phone since the day it was released and the proximity sensor had no trouble reflecting off my head and keeping the screen off during calls. Over the last few months I've noticed I started hitting buttons with my ear during calls because the screen is not shutting down. It seems like the sensitivity has decreased by some fixed amount in the last few months. It is very annoying because I keep accidentally hanging up on people or hitting the hold call button while I am talking.
The only two things I thought it could be would be either the sensor needs to be calibrated or possibly the sensor is going bad. I'm running the cyanogen 7 nightlies but have also tried reverting to some of the more stable RCs and still had the issue. I will try going back to a t-mobile rom tonight to see if that helps.
Has anyone else experienced this? Or does anyone know how to re-calibrate the sensor?

I gave it a shot, but I didn't see anything for calibrating the proxy sensor in that app.
I did however do a test using the camera on my transformer and compared the intensity of the proxy sensor LED to that on other phones. It appears as if mine is very dim and barely blinks. I think the infrared LED is burning out or the circuit that supplies it is not putting out the correct power.
Has anyone ever tried replacing a bad proxy LED before?
try sucking over the surface with a vaccum...i know it sounds crazy but its fixed alot of proxy sensors

That, or use one of those compressed-air cans for cleaning stuff and blow it into the speaker hole towards the proximity sensor (to the left of the speaker hole.) The proximity sensor seems very sensitive to dust particles.
You haven't installed or changed screen protectors recently, by any chance? Those have been known to mess up the sensor. Also, make sure the protector or glass is nice and clean in the area of the sensor.
Thanks for all the great advice! I'm going to give the vacuum and air can a shot.
Oh and to answer redpoint, I haven't installed any screen protectors on this phone ever, but thanks for the advice.
My GF's Vision behaves the same...
Still looking for a calibration tool, i found only one, but that don't work.
Also tried to "clean" the sensor
I think we have to return it to htc...
Same problem with my DZ since I put Virtuous G Lite on it. Did you guys find a solution for your proximity sensor ?
Cleaning or software ?

I am having the same problem. I keep hitting the hold button. Any fixes?

Galaxy note 3 proximity sensor issue Fix (when making calls)

Hello!
A month ago I had an issue when all of a sudden, when I was on a phone call and separated my Note 3 from my ear (to check the time as an ex,), the screen would stay black and the proximity sensor wouldn't work. It was very annoying (to me anyways) as I believe in having a phone working 100%. Honestly...I thought it was ROM and/or kernel related, but it's not. Doing some research here in XDA, I found several members of this community (Sprint Note 3 to be specific) experiencing the same issue. Apparently, it's dust affecting the proximity sensor making it unresponsive.
Long story short, one member said that he fixed his Note 3 by blowing air into the earpiece where the sensor is located. I thought the worse about the guy (lol) thinking it was a crazy idea...BUT, I said, "WTH...let me try it" and sure enough, it FREAKING worked!!! My Note 3 was working properly again!
That very same day, on Google +, I came across this article http://www.infotales.com/samsung-galaxy-note-3-proximity-sensor-issue-fix where the author "YASIR MIRZA" wrote an AWESOME article with this particular issue. He goes real deep into the subject and has 2 different methods more in depth about fixing the issue.
I will NOT maintain this thread since I don't have time. I'm only posting this here because I think it's the right place "Q&A", plus maybe if someone has the issue (like I had), by doing SEARCH (like I did), this thread will pop up and maybe help!!!
READING IT'S FUNDAMENTAL... SO READ FROM THE LINK I'VE PROVIDED WHERE IT HAS MUCH MUCH MUCH USEFUL INFORMATION!
HIT THAT "THANK YOU" BUTTON IF I HELPED OR YOU FIND THIS USEFUL!!! IT DOESN'T BITE...lol
That is a really good and thorough article. While I have not had any proximity sensor issues (yet), people who have will certainly appreciate the how-to. It is for a rooted device, though.
This is all great info, but it doesn't address the core issue which I gather from reading, is dust obscuring the sensor. I'm assuming this will recalibrate the sensor partly covered by dust, but If the dust got on the sensor once, there is pretty good chance it will get there again and change calibration? So how to stop it from getting there in the first place would be my concern, especially because so far my sensor works fine. Maybe solution should be to seal headphone jack, (if that's the culprit) which personally I rarely use, with some rubber insert, easy to remove if needed? And there is another opening (microphone?) right next to it, could that be a way inside as well?
As my phone's not rooted, nor have any compressed air handy, I opted to physically clean the sensor.
It's pretty simple and straightforward (the teardown videos are on youtube). Basically, you just unscrew the back casing and remove the sensor. Then either wipe the sensor window or use a tape to stick up the dust.
Before cleaning my readings were 105 and not working. After cleaning it went down to 40 and has been working ever since. Blowing the dust may simply dislodge it moved it around, having a chance of it finding its way back whereas cleaning it removes it altogether until some new dust finds its way back onto the window.

I just fixed my proximity sensor problem by doing a tear down and cleaning the dust out from the screen in front of the sensor also. Fairly easy to do.
i9100 proximity sensor doesn't work
Hi to all!
I have the issue with proximity sensor and didn't manage to find a solution in other similar threads!
The matter is that it is always stay as Released.
In the same time in test screen (*#0*#) there are changing reading for PROXIMITY parameter from 2 up to 240 with no ADC parameter at all. Please look for screenshots. PROXIMITY parameter changes its value when I move my finger in front of the sensor, but as I can understand Android doesn't recognize it because of ADC absence.
Moreover I tried to change proximity sensor for working one (from another phone), but it shows the same as mine (with no ADC readings).
After all I think it is software problem, but I don't know how to solve it. I flashed different firmwares (now it is XWMSE NeatROM v.6.4), but nothing helped.
Please assist! Thanks!
Hands-free mode
Hi everyone, just disabled the hands-free mode (steering wheel symbol - from the upper curtain) and your problem is solved.
Cheers.
God bless.
The link in the OP does not work; am I missing anything - like a period or some other punctuation or some word(s)?
No Gyroscope, No Proximity Sensor, No Temp...
I have a SM-N900 Showing no values for any sensor, I have tried unplugging and replugging proximity sensor with no sucess, also tried restoring via Odin Stock firmware, no sucess.
The Phone was apparently working fine, without root on stock lollipop, and after resetting the device for selling it, it stopped working.
I can't even rotate the screen...
I also tried the calibration method with no sucess...any suggestions?
Same here!!
It is so frustrating. I've restored to stock, with Odin. Had 3 different roms and have never had my sensors working. I've tried
libgnustl_shared-1.so fix for rotation. It didn't work.
Does anyone have any ideas? I don't have water damage.
I solved my problem by installing google phone app and selecting this phone app as system default from app permissions menu.

Fingerprint sensor not recognized when charging

My Moto G5S XT1792 had overheating problems since I bought it 9 months ago but I considered it a "feature" and that Motorola would not admit it was a problem. The phone would get severely hot when using GPS and 4G at the same time.
But then, overnight, the battery bulged and raised the screen out of its frame! Finally, the battery was replaced under warranty.
Since the replacement, the battery is lasting many hours more and the phone is barely getting warm even when charging under turbo charge. I am in love with my Moto G5S again.
The normal response of the fingerprint is to vibrate and then either lock or unlock.. Or, if the finger is not recognized, it vibrates and a message is displayed.
My setting is to use the fingerprint sensor as navigation button ("One Button Nav" under Moto Actions Settings).
But when my phone is being charged, the fingerprint sensor becomes erratic. If I try a sequence of lock and unlock fingerprint procedures, giving a few seconds after each retry, many times the sensor does not respond as expected. It becomes a trial and error: sometimes it works, sometimes not. Sometimes the navigation commands are recognized (swipe left and right, quick press).
It seems that this erratic behavior is not common because I could not find other users complaining about it. I wonder if my fingerprint sensor was damaged because of the overheating problems I had since I bought the phone or maybe during the battery replacement.
I would like you to try a sequence of lock/unlock fingerprint procedures while using the original AC charger in your phones and let me know if you experience the behavior I described above.
I want to get more feedback before I request a screen replacement under warranty.
Thanks!
This is not uncommon with charging phones, and is due to interference from your big, water containing body, and the AC power ground loop, on the capacitive finger print sensor. Some phones, houses, chargers and people are more or less susceptible.
Try charging from a DC source (battery bank) if you have one, and see if the problem goes away. There isn't much that you can do about it, and I probably wouldn't bother myself with it anyway, to be quite honest.

How to disable proximity sensor

Ok, here is the problem I am facing.
I recently changed the display to my G6 Play, and everything works fine except proximity sensor. When I try to make calls my screen goes black. I set up the power button to terminate the call but that's a very simple workaround. I can live with that but its very annoying. I checked the rubber shaped like an 8 figure around the light sensor and proximity, it seems properly aligned but I don't have enough experience to say that I am 100% sure. I have no case or screen guard on my phone also. I have tried with all kind of third apps to disable the proximity sensor. No joy. I know for sure since I have used an app for sensor testing that the proximity sensor is draining voltage aprox 0,32 mA so I think it is working. But the value is 0 so it is in a covered state. Now I am thinking since my phone dropped on the floor and cracked almost near the sensor where the impact zone was, that the sensor may be damaged. The current can flow but the hardware inside may be affected due to shock.
So again I guess it would be an elegant solution just to disable it with software. Is is possible and how?
Same problem here
Hello, I have the same problem... Did you managed yo disable the sensor?
Thanks you

Proximity sensor acting weird

My proximity sensor is pulsating not while on call but while screen is off and in good light conditions. When ambience is dimmed, it stops. Why is it doing this, any fix? Using dome glass.
Weird, but maybe somehow the glue and glass are indeed interacting with the sensor under certain conditions, I was wondering if with this new under display sensor wouldnt be this kind of issues, reading about your case, then I will not use any
Any other insight or possible solution?
I need to make a correction to my question. This behaviour happens when AOD is on and light is good. Funny enough I don't see it on call. But screen turns off just fine on call.
Same here. Even with AOD off. Seems to turn on randomly and flicker. When I wave in front of it, then it stops.
If I turn off the AOD, it stops doing this.
I also have this..sometimes it keeps flickering even after I have unlocked the screen. If I put my finger over it then it goes
I had to turn off tap to wake as the phone kept coming on in my pocket despite the phone being faced towards my leg, to me the proximity sensor in the 10+ is just wrong.
I turned off adaptive AOD brightness and it stopped doing this.
Interesting. I don't see this behavior.
With AOC on a slightly than 1% per hrs battery usage seems to be nominal operation.
This circuit uses little current I suspect anyway.
Unless it's using more battery than I stated it doesn't matter.
It wouldn't harm the OLED... cool find.
