My proximity sensor is pulsating not while on call but while screen is off and in good light conditions. When ambience is dimmed, it stops. Why is it doing this, any fix? Using dome glass.
Weird, but maybe somehow the glue and glass are indeed interacting with the sensor under certain conditions, I was wondering if with this new under display sensor wouldnt be this kind of issues, reading about your case, then I will not use any

I need to make a correction to my question. This behaviour happens when AOD is on and light is good. Funny enough I don't see it on call. But screen turns off just fine on call.
Same here. Even with AOD off. Seems to turn on randomly and flicker. When I wave in front of it, then it stops.
If I turn off the AOD, it stops doing this.
I also have this..sometimes it keeps flickering even after I have unlocked the screen. If I put my finger over it then it goes
I had to turn off tap to wake as the phone kept coming on in my pocket despite the phone being faced towards my leg, to me the proximity sensor in the 10+ is just wrong.
I turned off adaptive AOD brightness and it stopped doing this.
Interesting. I don't see this behavior.
With AOC on a slightly than 1% per hrs battery usage seems to be nominal operation.
This circuit uses little current I suspect anyway.
Unless it's using more battery than I stated it doesn't matter.
It wouldn't harm the OLED... cool find.

Is it possible to utilize the proximity sensor so when you put the phone inside a case, or in your pocket, the screen would turn off?
I'm used to my blackberry that has a magnet that knows when its in the holster, and shuts off.
Sometimes when in my pocket the phone may turn on, and I would think if the proximity sensor is used, it would stay off because its in your pocket...

Not sure if HTCs leave the proximity sensor polling active while phone is off, maybe the reason is battery drain.
Blackberry magnetics work just the way the stylus work for the Diamond and later HTC models. Magnetism is a healthier approach for this because is not processor dependant. Proximity and light sensors do require CPU processing to work (at least on current HTCs hardware design)
Simple. I just press the power button to turn it off before sliding it into the case.
From my understanding, the iPhone proximity sensor activates if the phone is locked and turns on during message notification. This way the screen shuts off if it's in a case or pocket as not to drain battery life. I with WinMo did that or at least S2U2 would do that.
I have another little problem. When my Tilt 2 is paired with a Bluetooth headset and I decide to take the call at the handset the proximity sensor is not activated.

I am having an issue with my proximity sensor and believe it may be some sort of calibration issue. It works (ie when I am in calls, if I cover it with my finger, it shuts off the screen) but the sensitivity has become very poor. I've had the phone since the day it was released and the proximity sensor had no trouble reflecting off my head and keeping the screen off during calls. Over the last few months I've noticed I started hitting buttons with my ear during calls because the screen is not shutting down. It seems like the sensitivity has decreased by some fixed amount in the last few months. It is very annoying because I keep accidentally hanging up on people or hitting the hold call button while I am talking.
The only two things I thought it could be would be either the sensor needs to be calibrated or possibly the sensor is going bad. I'm running the cyanogen 7 nightlies but have also tried reverting to some of the more stable RCs and still had the issue. I will try going back to a t-mobile rom tonight to see if that helps.
Has anyone else experienced this? Or does anyone know how to re-calibrate the sensor?

I gave it a shot, but I didn't see anything for calibrating the proxy sensor in that app.
I did however do a test using the camera on my transformer and compared the intensity of the proxy sensor LED to that on other phones. It appears as if mine is very dim and barely blinks. I think the infrared LED is burning out or the circuit that supplies it is not putting out the correct power.
Has anyone ever tried replacing a bad proxy LED before?

That, or use one of those compressed-air cans for cleaning stuff and blow it into the speaker hole towards the proximity sensor (to the left of the speaker hole.) The proximity sensor seems very sensitive to dust particles.
You haven't installed or changed screen protectors recently, by any chance? Those have been known to mess up the sensor. Also, make sure the protector or glass is nice and clean in the area of the sensor.

A friend of mine has a Motorola Razr which automatically switches to standby (screen off) when it's put into his pocket.

Man, I feel like an advertisement recently, but I feel like this would be something not too hard to accomplish with Tasker. If light levels drop to near nothing and the proximity sensor detects a very short distance, like the phone is in your pocket, it turns the screen off. I'd also put in an if for disabling this function when you're on a call, just because it already does it and I don't know if it'd interfere. You could test it though.
Battery use might be a concern if it polls the sensors too much. Would have to look into it.
Edit: I set up a simple test for this on my Infuse, and I got it to work, but it doesn't work instantaneously. The sensors are only polled every x number of seconds, but I don't know what that number is exactly. I suspect it shouldn't take more battery than it would if you had auto brightness on, and with auto brightness on, it's probably already updating the value, if it isn't always anyway (I want to say it does regardless), so I guess battery shouldn't be a concern. I guess it turning off with a couple of seconds of delay is still better than it staying on for 30+ seconds.

got my new Note II yesterday, but already having 2 problems.
The biggest is the light sensor; the Screen keeps adjusting it's Brightness like hell.
Read out the Sensor data, which is going from 0 to 13 lux when I cover the Sensor with my hand.
Do you experience the same?
Also my USB wire plug is very loose. Also normal?

Does your Light Sensor Value also jump around in same light conditions?
Low-Light mine goes from 0-28, normal it goes from 400~ to 80.000 sometimes, which results in frequent readjustment in brightness.
Thats very irritating for me, cause I use it everytime
Would be nice if someone could give me his values/behavior of the sensor with AndroSensor or so.

I just got my GT-N7100 and am having the same problems. Very irritating. Need this to work for better battery life. Tried a program from Play Store called Lux, but it works the same, maybe a little better. But Lux is showing the sensor readings varying all the time even when the ambient light hasn't changed at all, thus the brightness fluctuations. I am rooted, but on Stock ROM. Wonder if a custom ROM would fix it, or if it's a defective sensor.
Anyone else experiencing this?

The default auto-brightness should not be updating so fast that it flickers You might want to get it checked out. Or if you use a 3rd party app, reduce the time interval of the update.
And do note, there is a difference say, with your back towards the sun, you face the phone towards you, or towards the floor. So when you are on the move, expect values to change.
Stock auto brightness is woeful in my opinion. It was the same one my Gnex so I have used Luxbon both with good results. Takes a bit of tweaking but brilliant when set up.

I'm not in the brightest room but I have 2 60W light bulbs above me and my sensor has 0 when the phone is towards me and 20 lux when it is towards the roof. And yes it's stable with the values.
Ok, here is the problem I am facing.
I recently changed the display to my G6 Play, and everything works fine except proximity sensor. When I try to make calls my screen goes black. I set up the power button to terminate the call but that's a very simple workaround. I can live with that but its very annoying. I checked the rubber shaped like an 8 figure around the light sensor and proximity, it seems properly aligned but I don't have enough experience to say that I am 100% sure. I have no case or screen guard on my phone also. I have tried with all kind of third apps to disable the proximity sensor. No joy. I know for sure since I have used an app for sensor testing that the proximity sensor is draining voltage aprox 0,32 mA so I think it is working. But the value is 0 so it is in a covered state. Now I am thinking since my phone dropped on the floor and cracked almost near the sensor where the impact zone was, that the sensor may be damaged. The current can flow but the hardware inside may be affected due to shock.
So again I guess it would be an elegant solution just to disable it with software. Is is possible and how?
