Outdated Security Patch (May 2018) & Camera not working - Razer Phone Questions & Answers

Feels like Razer have abandoned support for the device. I keep getting security warning emails telling me that my device is running an outdated security patch and is vulnerable.
Also the camera doesn't work. It force closes and says "Can't connect to camera"
Does anyone know any work arounds for these issues?

Hope so. :fingers-crossed:

Not sure about your camera issue as mine works just fine. However I am concerned about these emails you are getting. There are never emails sent out about an "outdated" phone. That sounds like a phising/ hacking scam.

I agree, Google never send out "Outdated Security Patch" Emails as I have Android devices from all the various iterations of the OS and never get them and im also quite tech savvy and a dedicated Android and Linux user. Please be careful of those Emails, do not reply to them. Don't worry about them either, their contents are erroneous. Well said tambukey
If you require any further information or assistance, don't hesitate to contact me. I believe if you do a hard boot by holding the power button for 10+ seconds until the device resets then check your camera, maybe a RMA case.but doubt it...

Mine is also working fine, and I havent received any "outdated" security emails either.

I returned the phone to the merchant. Replaced it with a OnePlus 5T because I'd get regular support from the brand.

Yeah, that's probably scareware installed on the device by the user than anything actually wrong with the device.

Anyone know if this is a general WP7 problem, or if it's just the Trophy doing it? It's getting on my nerves, and I'm wondering who to blame

Lol I'm sorry for you.
My device never rebooted itself.
And freezed only once. The only unreliable behaviour I noticed was Marketplace - widely documented problem - and Weather Channel quit working once...
So I have no idea what causes that.
But it may be an app, badly written.
You're probably looking at a hardware problem. This happened to a number of HD2s too. I'd take it back to the store you bought it from, explain the problem, and use your warranty to get a new one.
Well, the reason I'm asking is that there are a lot of people in the Trophy forum reporting this behavior - in addition to me. If it doesn't happen to other devices, it's probably a design flaw, but I'm not taking my phone in until I can back it up

What do you need to backup. All your purchases can be re-downloaded for free. Contacts, emails, pictures, videos, etc. can be resynced. That's the beauty of the 'cloud'.

My LG optimus 7 rebooted randomly like yours. Now back in repairs, I'll suggest you send it back while it's still under warranty
Mine has rebooted itself a few times and I have a Samsung Focus. Personally I think its a memory management issue. Generally happens after running a lot of apps and the phone hasnt had a reboot in a while.

WP7 clears any memory aps use after the phone exits a program. And without multitasking, memory is not an issue. It's a hardware issue... usually with the internal processor.
I don't think it's a software flaw either, as a lot of people don't have this problem. Also, there are no programs running in the background, so that clears that issue. I suspect the phone developers have been in a hurry and have just pushed out handsets that are really just beta versions.
My LG Optimus 7 reboots from time to time, too.
My TMOUS HD7 has done this like 3 times in about a month and a half if that makes a difference to anyone. T-Mobile replaced my HD2 when it was doing this and the newer HD2 never did it.
Do you guys have bluetooth enabled? Just hit me yesterday that my problems started when I turned bluetooth on...
My bluetooth is off and I have this problem.
Ok, might be coincidence, but my phone seems to have stopped rebooting after I turned BT off. Not a single one in the last four days

Things that don't quite work ?

While Lineage O.S. seems to do most things as it should, there also seem to be some things that, for lack of a better way to put it, just don't seem to work. This could result from defective hardware, defective software, or defective user issues. This is intended to be a place to post inquiries about stuff that doesn't seem to work properly. If it is defective hardware, well, there's probably not much we can do for you here. Defective software? Perhaps the Lineage OS team or your app developer might see something here to put onto the to-do list. Defective user? A friendly: "Cool. Someone told me how to fix it without telling me I was a complete doofus" can go a long way to improve one's day, at least in my humble opinion.
Video in Stock Messages app doesn't work properly
On d2vzw (Verizon Galaxy S3) running OctOS 7.1.1 (LOS 14.1)
Pictures work fine, but when I try to record a video mms it freezes the camera, and when I receive a video mms from someone all I can play is the audio part. Pictures work fine; just the video has issues.
Would love to hear if others experience this as well or if I'm on the Crazy Train... :silly:
Device info ?
It seems likely that a lot of issues are going to be device specific, so it would be useful to include info such as what device you have and, if you aren't using the current LOS build, which one you are using. For instance, I've not had that particular problem on my LOS device(s), but one of my not yet changed devices did with the factory build (go figure). OEM supplied a new messaging app and the problem went away.

I think this is to optimistic. Have you seen how restrictive devs are with bug reports? Maybe it's faster to start building LOS yourself.

I do have to agree with you, but one can always hope. And if folks never make problems known at all, we can't expect others to be clairvoyant.
I also don't necessarily disagree with the restrictions. It is tough enough to expect people to work for you basically for free, let alone with absolutely no structure imposed on how to define their tasks.
Unfortunately, some issues just don't fall conveniently into the structure for bug reporting. I've been trying to observe ANY pattern to my LG tablet with 14.1 randomly dropping Wi-Fi connectivity despite every settings change one could make. It is an annoyance rather than a deal breaker since it only seems to drop the connection when idle (at least so far). There is also an annoying little glitch about randomly forgetting the wallpaper I've selected, but if those are the things I have to put up with to have something better than an unsupported 3-year old Kit Kat build on the device, I am willing to do so and hopefully one of these days those two little problems will get fixed. If someone who reads this says: "oh yeah, I had that problem, too, you just have to ....." all the better. If it takes coding skills, hopefully one of these days I will get there.

Samsung A70 screen touch delay

Anyone here experiencing a sensitivity issue on samsung A70?
I had mine like few weeks ago and notice there is a lag on screen sensitivity. I used to play games (call of duty mobile and PUBG) on this phone and it is lag whenever i tried to make a minimum/fine tune movement. It is annoying and almost useless to play.
I believed to those who are using this phone for photo editing or painting or drawing will experience the same thing.
I compare with my samsung S9+ and note3, they works perfectly. No issue at all.
I also did a test with other demo set A70 phone in samsung store, they appears to have the same problem.
Not much info i can get from the net as for now.
I did report to samsung service center in Malaysia, unfortunately they said i'm the only one who is complaining about this matter. They ask me to check if there is a firmware update in future.
Please share your experience with me.
Please help.
Thanks
Same problem here, was looking all over the internet to find someone who experienced the same issue.
Just for the record, I have also switched on the 'Touch Sensitivity' option in the settings.
I've got this issue too. I've talked to Samsung about it through Samsung members app, and they told me to take the device to Samsung customer center, but they told me that there's nothing wrong with the device. I kept bugging them about it on Samsung members app until they told me that they're gonna pass the feedback to the team.
My advice would be that we all write them feedbacks about this issue, that way they'll listen to us. Also it's important to tell them that you don't have any screen protectors on, cause they're gonna put the blame on it.
I've also posted about this issue a couple of times here and there, on Samsung's Reddit and Twitter also. And I was trying to get some YouTubers attention to this issue so they can talk about it and get Samsung to listen, but YouTubers don't respond to me.
I am tired enough to contact samsung. I even did email their ceo through samsung email. No news from them yet.
Anyway, do you think it is a hardware problem or software problem? Or that is best performance a70 can do?
I am pretty sure this is a software issue. Because Snapdragon 675 should have no problem with this considering my sisters’s old Lenovo P2, with the Snapdragon 625, is perfectly fine.
Definitely software issue. The touch used to be worse but they fixed it, and now it's like this. Also, if it was a hardware issue they would've noticed it when I gave my phone to them to scan it.
I just came back from samsung service center. They told me it is like this due to screen type.. S9 and note3 having a better screen quality. So for A70 screen type there is a limitation of the delay.
I really dont agree with them but this is what they told me. I insist to have a report on this and ask them to highlight this issue to higher samsung representative. But i forgot to take the report number. Grrr...
Imo, this issue wouldnt solve unless you able to talk to someone who is 'working in a software department' and able to explain to them correctly.
And i guess they only take a very good care on their flagship model. S and Note.

That's not the case, they just don't wanna talk about it so that's their way of shutting you out.
I've just updated my phone to September security patch and I can see they're fixing the issue. It's not 100% fixed, but I feel like it's 99% fixed. The touch is better, but not the best. I compared it to my A50 and it's indeed closer than ever to being like it, regarding the touch response latency.
I'm gonna send them a message again to tell them that they're on the right path but it just needs a little bit more fixing. The sooner we report it, the sooner it is fixed.
+ No, most of their phones have great screens, I've been with Samsung for a decade now and I can tell from experience. It's just that this device has a software issue because they're so busy making new phones and giving updates to the A50.

I updated the phone manually through Odin. I used the Israeli version since it's right next to Jordan where I live. The touch has improved, but it still needs some work. The fingerprint scanner has also been improved, it's faster now.

Tell them about this thread so they know it's a widespread issue.
Have you tried increasing the mouse pointer speed in the input settings? I bumped mine up a bit and it helped a little bit but it doesn't solve the problem of hitting a small target not being registered as a touch unless you zoom in. My old phone, LCD was able to hit small targets.

Question Pixel 6/Pixel 6 Pro December update PAUSED

Welp, it's about time they finally said it:
Pixel 6 December Update Situation Just Got Worse
Google confirms it has paused the December update for Pixel 6 lineup due to connectivity bug. When is a fix coming? Not until late January.
www.droid-life.com
And there you have what many had thought! Good old googleeeee
So for the few like myself that got it pushed to my phone on MetroPCS (TMobile), what does that mean? I haven't had any dropped calls but my speeds have been slower and battery has been worse than what I remember with November patch.
According to the post, if you aren’t experiencing issues after the update, no action is required and just rock out until the late January update. Unless you want to factory reset and revert back to the November update.

I doubt if it means anything. You can always flash the November image, although dirty flashing (not wiping), especially when "downgrading" can cause more issues and trouble than it's worth. Hopefully this Monday, January 3rd we'll get the regular monthly update, and if so, your current December version will be superseded anyway. Edit: I missed that the source Google article said fixes would come out in late January, so I'm now not expecting a new update until then or even the first Monday of February.
Im alright without the Dec. update, no issues with mine besides the AOD all of sudden does no respond. Found an an app that took care of that issue plus not notification indicator now
Figures, I already factory reset last week after the December update so I wouldn't want to flash a stock November image at this point. I have some other issues with the phone like the one user posted with lines across the screen on videos but have not been able to get in contact with support. Will try to after the holidays and hope they don't give me the run around.
I'd really like to know where the fault is. The modem or some other partition?
In November, I would drop calls in dead spots. In December I would just lose call audio and have to call that person back.
More fan fair:
Google paused the December Pixel 6 update, but is just admitting to it now
The Google Pixel 6 December 2021 update rolled out to a select few. Now, Google is finally admitting that update's problems.
www.androidauthority.com
Boo Google! What the heck is going on? Late January?
I guess I'll be using my 4 XL one more month then...
I guess Google now knows why Samsung doesn't use their own modems in their phones, especially in the US.
But hey.....look at all these cool animations they introduced in A12
It's a very capable modem but no other phone on the market has it. Samsung hasn't documented any differences from the international S20 or S21. Only thing it doesn't seem to support the moment is VoNR for voice over 5G.
But I've said this previously, Samsung rewrote the modem for December. The blame likely lies with them.
I have a really bad feeling about all of this.
So also on the Dec update and things seemed good until I noticed today that my Amazon apps (Music and Shopping) both appear to be crashing and complaining about either Chrome not being updated (when it IS), and/or no internet connectivity, when both 5G and/or WiFi are available and all other stuff works fine.
Not sure if this is related at all, but this only started today after I tried to install Amazon shopping, now Music and Shopping don't work right.
I had the same problem with Amazon apps. I was able to get them to work by disconnecting my VPN.

Capable as in it can combine 5G signals when most other phones can't or don't have it enabled.
I was worried earlier this year that it couldn't. I should've worried more about all these goodies and even basic call functionality being untested.

Nice, thanks man! Worked perfectly.
Now I did temp disable AdAway earlier and that did not seem to fix it, maybe I did not fully restart the app then, but now its good.
Now on my previous LG V60 I used AdGuard for years and had no issues with Amazon apps, not sure why AdAway would be different?
LOL ... "If you aren’t experiencing issues after the update, no action is required and you’re apparently very fortunate." (Google: "If you are not experiencing mobile connectivity issues, no action is required.") ... not exactly a very solid (software) engineering analysis ...
Apparently I'm one of those "very fortunate" people ... upgraded manually and I have not had any issues at all since the upgrade (4G network in Belgium). On the contrary, since upgraded, phone has been working flawlessly for me.
Hopefully we'll get a bit better explanation than just "we found and fixed the problem".
Happy end of year festivities for all of you ... stay healthy and safe !

Question Google lately sending out a replacement device only once?

Hey guys,
I issued a complaint about my 6 Pro (purchased from the Google Store in November) some weeks ago due to it having connection loss, GPS never pointing me in the direct direction (and some other things), got an replacement device, that randomly rebooted like 5 times in the first 2 days, so I sent back the replacement and hoped for the updates to resolve my issues with the original one. Well they didnt and I just got out of a chat with a service agent, who said, they can only offer repair options now.
As a Google buyer since the nexus days, having the ability to get a good service has always been a strong case for my choice for Google. This is very disappointing. Since when did things change, and why? Or are there people who got more than one replacement?
The dude i had in the chat today said he checked with the specific deparment and they will only offer repair for my device.
Thanks guys!
In the future return the device in the available return window if defective.
Make it their problem not yours (I have 2 open box specials to my name so far with Samsung).
You can try contacting your bank if you used a MC to see if you can return the device and get the bank to do a charge back.
You need to be effectively assertive or people will walk all over you.
I be all over Google like a cheap suit...

Connectivity problems seem to be mainly software related, many people were able to fix their problems by flashing the november radio file. What other problems do you have?
Have you set up your device "fresh" or with a backup? Google cloud or cable?
Some people had problems with backups, if Google doesn't offer you another replacement, I'd suggest to set up your device without any previous backup stuff, to see if that solves your issue.
That's a weird turn of events with that agent
What you are describing is a complete change from how Google handled warranty claims in the past. I would call back and see if the answer changes, this feels like a support agent that was confused.
That said, Google is currently in a very bad spot with support, it is a disaster.

Thats why I'm asking, if someone got a second replacement device, cause I think that is were the cutoff is now.

If you do a chargeback they'll freeze your Google account. Lots of reports of this happening on Reddit and they never reverse course and let you keep the account.

All the more reason to never do business with this company it true. I'd return it anyway. Then start filing complaints if they froze the account.
The FTC will take action if they get enough complaints of inappropriate behavior like this.
As it is I would never give Google a dime outright anyway.

Yeah after hearing about the chargeback situation I decided I'll order from Amazon when it's time. Too many reports of FedEx stealing the phones and Google support not being helpful with requesting refunds.
I agree with OP that it's a shame if Google has now decided they'll only replace a device once. A defective device is a defective device, not anyone but Google's fault that their QA sucks.

As Lughnasadh pointed out calling Google back is a good idea. I've literally called some companies over 2 dozen times over the course of a week or two, escalating the case, ask to talk to supervisors, managers, even a VP at Sony.
Trying to get them to do the right thing.
Hammer them until they blink first... it's like playing the slots.
I'm successful almost always but it can take some doing. Once I get started I go to town...*
It's all good though because it's another free course in assertive training. Unfortunately for them I'm already well trained and worse I enjoy it

Some people had problems with backups, if Google doesn't offer you another replacement, I'd suggest to set up your device without any previous backup stuff, to see if that solves your issue.

actually, from what I heard it was mainly adaptive connect that caused the problem. (Least it was for me and I was on December update, but November did it to). Now I am on January update.

I agree. People bl unlock flash the wrong image, can't recover, and say my phone won't respond. Not that it happened here but you can search the threads and see what I mean.

No doubt that may be true, but not all devices are equal (even the same model).
It's a dirty little secret but a common practice for phone manufacturers to substitute smaller chipsets and components during a production run due to parts availability. If it's a chipset it may not be compatible with the original firmware instruction set.
Eventually the manufacturer will modify the firmware to incorporate these off spec components, hopefully. Once they realize there's a problem. Almost always they need to physically examine the device to know if/what was substituted. So yeah they like you to send it in for repair. Fking beta hardware
Samsung is known to do this.
So when others are having issues you never experienced or easily fixed and they can't, don't be so sure it's the user's fault. Especially if there are wide spread reports.
so no one here who got a second replacement device?

I'm very sure I remember reading some other members in this section reporting having received second replacement devices. No idea who they were or in which threads you might find their posts, though.
