Anyone here has G710EAW model? - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

Specifically HK edition? What S/W version it currently updated to? When was latest update received and what version?
I 'm trying to choose between G710EAW and G710N, second has most current software but hard to buy and more expensive

I too am looking for answer on the G710EAW which is selling $629 now, wanted to know if it will work fully on At&t. Sigh

I have the eaw model, security patch July 1, Android 8.0.0 version v10D-HKG-XX, build OPR1.170623.032, kernel 4.9.65

Sad. So if I understand correctly it still has not been updated to latest Korean patch which enables 60fps in UHD? And improves camera quality in low light?
The slow updates queue for non-Korean variants on V20 is what bugged me to the point I either will buy Korean G7 or switch to some another vendor like Samsung or Huawei
LG, thinque about the queue

I am using the HK model, July 1 patch and the video cam has the UHD 60fps option available in the camera settings.

I currently get only 3g speeds, but that's because i don't want to switch the IMEI registration in At&t's database as i still use my iPhone as my main phone and will not have LTE speeds on the iPhone if i switch the way it's registered in At&t's system. It will definitely work with LTE speeds on At&t's network, i spoke to a rep on the phone, you have to call them and provide them with your IMEI and they will manually add the phone to their database and you will get LTE speeds. The phone is capable of LTE on AT&t, if you check the bands: https://www.gsmarena.com/lg_g7_thinq-9115.php , it is 100% compatible with the bands At&t's LTE uses: https://forums.att.com/t5/Phone-Device-Upgrades/What-are-AT-amp-T-s-4G-LTE-bands/td-p/4067288

Don't rely the LTE band listed on gsmarena, thier info is not 100% accurate.
Here is an official LG for G710EAW and it doesn't have LTE band for AT&T and T-Mobile

Security level don't bother me as much as camera drivers updates. I suspect g710n have now much better camera software than international 710emw models, that lag behind in updates

So I currently own the LM-G710EAW (LG G7+/Plus HK/SG Variant). It has two IMEI's, maybe this why the band support is different? Also on the box itself, it list bands 12 and 17 which are AT&T's primary LTE bands (according to Wiki). I just got the phone today, and I didn't get time until this evening to talk to AT&T support. They have put in a request for me, and they have said they will get back to me within 24 hours letting me know how to get LTE working. I would like to note this variant is also on Amazon with two reviews stating they also had trouble setting up LTE, but they did get it resolved. I do believe the phone can be supported on AT&T's LTE network because why would the box label be mislabeled? Here is a picture of the label found on the box: imgur dot com 2Z3ldD5 (I can't post links since I have a new account, but you can follow that typed out) Thank you all for reading. I will update with what information I find out by AT&T. Please do so yourself, too - that is if you figure it out .

So I have just tried a couple different things with AT&T to get this resolved. The first being using the IMEI of my old phone to see if LTE would come through. It did not work. We then added the new IMEI and tried again - still did not work. We tried some custom APN settings - still did not work. The very last thing we did was add my IMEI to AT&T's range of "known" IMEI's - this did not work, either; however, the CS rep said that they could now see my phone as an LTE compatible device on their end, and it was not showing this before. They said to wait 24 hours so the full system can be rebooted/swept, and that it should fetch LTE afterwards. So now we wait boys. I'll keep updating.

I just got the SK Telecom model LG-G710N and am getting 4G LTE on Cricket here in NYC. Also tried to update the software and lets me update to the latest via wifi\mobile. No need to have SK Telecom sim needed to initiate updates...

It was well known long ago, you can update LG Korean models from everywhere in the world, no restrains, no operator SIM needed.
What is your 710N latest update version and camera soft 7013219 or newer?

I think the biggest practical difference of F180 is no LTE outside of Korea, due to the hardware incompatibility. If LTE is important to you, F180 is not a good choice. If you are OK with 3G only, then it may be OK, but I strongly suggest doing some reading on many topics regarding the "conversion" of F180 F/L/S models to E975, just so you understand associated potential problems and headaches. Bottom line: if you like a challenge, and don't mind taking chances, go for it, but only if the price is right (if the price difference in your case is not substantial, then it's not worth the trouble). Otherwise, stick with E975.

Yes, that article pretty much sums up the most common way of converting F180 to E975, even though I took a different route, which was easier and made more sense to me (but I am in the minority here, along with a few other people)... You can also find all this information here on XDA, plus, a lot of useful discussions about all sorts of different problems some people are having after the conversion, most common one being a weak or lost signal. Again, before you decide to go ahead with it, I would recommend to do some reading on XDA OG forums. If you go for it, make sure you do every possible backup (especially EFS) before starting to mess with your phone, so you can revert back to where you started, if you need to, without a major screw-up... Good luck!
Oh, BTW -- the article you referenced doesn't mention one important part. Technically, it's optional, but at least you should know about it. Optimus G (any model) has a locked bootloader. So, if you ever want to flash a custom recovery, or a custom ROM (or any unsigned zip, for that matter), or to do Nandroid backups, etc., you need to unlock the bootloader first -- rooting alone won't do the trick. "There is an app for that". (c) Look up FreeGee on Play Store. Again, read about it here on XDA -- the process has been described in details. Good place to start would be a great FAQ thread by @kimitza; you can take it from there.

I am not aware of any free unlock methods (which doesn't necessarily mean they don't exist, I just haven't heard of them). Anyway, I unlocked a bunch of different LG phones using freemyblackberry.com, and I can definitely recommend them. Right now, they are selling unlock codes for any LG phone for just $2 -- can't get any cheaper than that...

[Q] Is it possible to convert a Asia WWE model to US WWE or EU WWE?

Hi guys, my cousin just returned to Mexico from a trip to the US and she bought an HTC One M8 on BestBuy. The thing is that she bought it from a partner inside the store and the model is HTC Asia WWE. She wasn't able to connect to LTE there and neither here on Mexico now that she's back.
Here are the LTE frequencies I looked up:
LTE 700 / 850 / 1700 / 1800 / 1900 / 2100 / 2600 - AT&T
LTE 700 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 - Asia - the phone she bought
The phone CID and MID are:
CID HTC__044
MID htc_asia_wwe
She can only connect to H and 3G (no H+ or LTE) with Telcel and was wondering if I can convert her phone to the US or EU unlocked model so she can have LTE speeds. It's weird that a partner inside BestBuy was selling unlocked asian models instead of the US ones and she has no other option now.
I can't find any info regarding the cellular hardware to see if a conversion is possible.
I have plenty of experience on my One M7 with WWE conversions. I once converted my US unlocked model the EU one in order to get Sense 5.5 first and to play around and get experience with the One's specifics flash methods, etc. but I don't know about other region's WWE models and the different frequencies they support. Are they hardware dependent or just by firmware/ROM?
She will be more than happy if I can convert her phone to a US or EU model and have LTE connectivity.
Any help with this question would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!
It's AT&T that use odd frequencies, not Asia. The different frequencies are a hardware thing, and I think there may also be a protocol difference (AWS?). It can't be changed.
Frequency support is set in hardware and can't be "converted" with software. In particular, according to the following Wiki page, Telcel uses Band 4 (1700 MHz) for LTE, so you need to use a phone which supports this LTE band (which the Asian variant does not).
One has to be very careful (and do a lot of research) whenever buying a phone from a source outside your local carrier, region, etc. for this very reason.

Have a similar compatibility question ... Product specs for the phone I bought in India say that it supports the following 4G LTE frequencies. 700/900/1800/2100/2600. I am trying to use that in the U.S on AT&T which (according to the Wiki page) uses 700, 1700 and 1900. So, techincally shouldnt the phone work on the 700 MHz frequency. I dont think it is that straight forward since the is a "band" variable that I am assuming plays. Appreciate any clarification...

Nan i dnt think so, all device hardware is the same, modem frequency do not rely on the hardware, i think its depends on the software configuration ( which band to enable or not).remember radio is integrated in the snapdragon 801 only changes is the increase in speed of the Asian version that all everthing remain the same.. i converted my Asian-cht to european-wwe, i am in mauritius and i get 4g on the two main carrier in my country.
Awesome. Thanks!!! Let me try this and get back. Will definitely would want to have an option to go back to stock if something goes wrong.

I really don't know what you're trying to show me.
The Asia and the EMEA HTC One M8 both support LTE on 1800MHz, the frequency that Orange - Mauritius operates on. What am I missing?

Yes, I was just reading last week on a post here that apparently radio support is no longer set in hardware, but that the Snapdragon chipset can now support all bands, and its not set in software. This is a significant change in technology for previous smartphones.

So, how can I test this? If I get a radio from AT&T and flash it onto the Indian M8, would that turn on 4G LTE for the Indian phone in the US on AT&T?

All M8s using the same radio and multi-band amplifier. So the bands are activated through firmware.
It's been done before. When Nexus 4 was released, the multi-band amplifier supports one LTE band and people were able to get LTE signals and speed. Google later issued a radio firmware update that disabled the LTE. Subsequently, devs hacked the radio firmware and created "hybrid" radio that contains the newest update and LTE.

All new snapdragons support "World Mode" modem. All M8s use "World Mode" amplifier. Technically M8s can support ALL possible LTE bands.

I plan on trying it out but being a noob will need some help. I have a locked, S-On Indian M8 (CID: HTC__038). To test a new radio, i would:
1. unlock bootloader
2. root
3. S-OFF
4. How do I backup my current radio to be able to go back to it if the new radio does not work?
5. Change CID and MID to match the AT&T
6. Flash new radio - Where can I get the AT&T radio.
Anything I am missing or incorrect? Appreciate any input.
still havent sold my s4 so I guess I would be OK even if it is bricked but would prefer not to

You don't know how to use the phone? You don't know what to do with your phone? Did you try the user manual that accompanies it?
Are you referring to what you can do with the phone in terms of custom ROMs? Are you asking about the hardware in the phone in regards to the topic at hand(RF360 Front end Solution from Qualcomm) ?

[Q] Which LG G3 to buy?

I'm a AT&T subscriber however I want a unlocked device since I travel to other countries. I've looked into LG G3 D855 (European version) unlocked but many people report that although it shows the frequencies used by AT&T, still it doesn't allow 4G LTE on any US carrier.
I do not want to buy LG G3 D850(AT&T version) since i won't be able to use it back home. I'm not sure what the LG G3 F400 version is.
Please help this is really confusing, I've tried contacting both LG and AT&T but they don't seem to have much information on this.
Thank you!

It seems like Pakistan uses 1800mhz for the LTE. In terms of At&t and Europeans G3, they don't have the same LTE bands.
At&t does NOT use 1800 only the European one has it.
So since Pakistan uses the same bands as the Europe, then you'll have to pick which between having LTE in the U.S. or LTE in Pakistan.
Both phones will work for 3g though.
Hope that helps!

I'm not concerned about LTE in Pakistan since as of now Pakistan doesn't have LTE networks setup . Also LTE in US is important for me. In Pakistan I only want to be able to use my phone i.e call/text.
I have two more questions:
1. Would I be able to use an AT&T device with Pakistani/European carriers without unlocking it, if I buy them without contract.
2. Can I use the korean G3 (f400) for ATT LTE? I've read it somewhere that some people have got it working but I want to be sure.

Since you not concerned with LTE in Pakistan, that makes it a little easier.
1. You can buy an At&t phone and get it unlocked. If you buy it outright (full cost), at&t might provide you with the unlock code, I'm not positive about that.
If you are still on a contracted type plan and you buy it subsidized with a 2 year contract then you can also just buy an unlock code for $3 and get it unlocked. I'm not affiliated with this website but I have seen others use it (www(dot)gsmzambia(dot)com/) and has success. I personally used cellunlocker and it took 24 hours to get my code and was about $8. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2780536&page=2)
2. Yes you can use a Korean G3 as it has the correct LTE bands and will works for At&t LTE.
This is only if you're interested in Roms/Modding/Qi Wireless charging
If you plan on buying your phone outright from at&t, I would highly recommend getting a t-mobile phone if you like to flash roms, use QI wireless charging. T-mobile has their bootloader unlocked so its more rom friendly. Also it uses the Qi-wireless standard vs PMA which is much more widely used than At&t's PMA (powermat)
T-mobiles phone works for At&t and has all the bands except for band 5 which at&t isn't using.

90% of the bloatware is uninstallable. The Korean language on the dialer, and in the theming app is what made me get rid of it for the att version. I also didn't like how it handled USA phone numbers via text messages. It always sent and received duplicate text messages

I bought the ATT version and I love it so far! However my only issue is the charging time on this beast. It takes a lot of time to charge, especially if I'm gaming on the device while it charges.

Unlockable bootloader!

At the very least on the unlocked version, and covered under warranty too!

Still, if AT&T doesn't end up selling directly, I have no idea why anyone wouldn't buy the unlocked version.
HTC has always been good about this especially with their unlocked version. I do hope this unlocked version will have the right band support much like the Nexus 5X and 6P.

I think one difference this time is they said it's included in the warranty. I'm still using my old M8, so I can't speak for the M9 or A9. However, from what I've seen historically, there was always the risk that HTC wouldn't honor the warranty if the bootloader was unlocked. It's nice to see that it's covered this time though.
Here's what we got for bands:
#UHL SKU (EMEA/Asia)
2G/2.5G - GSM/GPRS/EDGE

While it's not as comprehensives as what I have on my Moto X Pure 2015, my initial looking shows that LTE should work in most major European and Asian countries as well as Australia and New Zealand. Didn't check South America/Caribbean.

They thump the "developer friendly" drum, and of course are quite great with warranty / service in this regard... Though if you've ever scrolled through their sources, you will know that they have some progress to make when it comes to being dev friendly
Having a risk-free bootloader unlock / tinker will do wonders for this, though. People will really go to town on the M10, which is going to be a golden age for us future M10 owners

It actually doesn't show the Unlocked version if you go to your cart afterwards. Both unlocked and T-Mobile versions show 'T-Mobile' in the product title once in the cart. Might actually mean that there isn't any difference between the two, and devunlock is now under warranty by default?
Pretty sure verizon will have it locked down so hard that beaups wont be able to unlock it for awhile

I am highly interested in the new HTC 10, I hate that the IR blaster is gone, but it appears to make up for that in all the other areas. My question is, can I get the unlocked version and use it on Verizon with full functionality? Or should I just wait for bootloader unlock and root on the Verizon version to purchase? Decisions, Decisions Really hope this phone sees bootloader unlock, and root! I have Verizon grandfathered unlimited data plan, and use my hotspot on my jailbroken iPhone daily. Really want to go back to Android for my next phone and this looks like the device to switch back to, but I cant do it if Verizon's punk ass keeps locking down the bootloaders effective making Android devices useless to me. I wont buy a device I cant jailbreak or root for having to have the hotspot.

Yeah I saw but was hoping for a Nexus like device that would work on all carriers?? Guess I am going to keep wishing huh? If it gets unlocked bootloader/root on Verizon, I will pick this one up and make my return back to Android. I was just hoping that we could have a HTC 10 that worked across all carriers. Perhaps they will come out with a dual sim version down the line? Crossing fingers for all of it. My M8 was my favorite phone minus the ****ty camera.

I had a M8, scren broke after a week when I left it on my desk, like a very little shock, when I've asked for a repair, support was OK, till they saw on their screen that it was unlocked.
Support told me that rooted smartphones could break a screen ... I've asked for a proof, never had one.
On a side note, my wife had the same M8, unrooted, screen broke almost the same way; got a replacement.
Obviously, the screen on this model was bad

Please don't F this phone up for me Verizon! Let us have at least one Android phone that we can make ours!

I asked Jeff Gordon (HTC US employee on Twitter, not the NASCAR driver) about bootloader unlocked. He confirmed, and also says still waiting for Sprint and VZW approval.

I can see both Verizon and Sprint squirming in their boots at this one
"But how will we put our crappy carrier apps that haven't been updated in a decade in there??"
Although I absolutely love making my phone mine, the only reason I rooted initially was to shake the sprint crap :good: That aside, this is a tremendous announcement, and would be blooming fantastic if it became a thing

"The Unlocked version is compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile. " That's just below the pre-order button. So, no CDMA support on the unlocked version currently available for pre-order.

There's only 1 published SKU for the US and it supports both GSM and CDMA so I suspect that the unlocked model sold by HTC will indeed work on Verizon and Sprint but the two carriers haven't certified it yet, and likely will want you to purchase a software locked version from them directly. If we can confirm the radios will work, then unlocked is definitely the way to go. No VZW bloat and warranty bootloader unlock support!

Just preordered my Unlocked Glacier Silver! Hoping I can just pop in my sim from my iPhone 6Plus.. Will update! Seems the darker color is already out of stock. So if you are on fence, might want to act quickly! I am looking forward to see if this works! And to a prospering dev community for it if all goes well for the carrier editions having bootloader unlock!

Unlocked V30 now on sale @ Best Buy $799.99

Jude a heads up as I didn't see anyone chatting about it yet.
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-v30...unlocked-cloud-silver/6138907.p?skuId=6138907
Anyone know if B&H will price match this?. I ordered last night to take advantage of the $400 off offer.
Well, you can try...
But with B&H Photo, I paid no tax (because I live outside New York/New Jersey) and I got free shipping. Here in Georgia with at least 6% state sales tax, that "$800" Best Buy LG V30 is REALLY going to be about $848. (Some localities tack on even more tax, in addition to state tax.)
The B&H Photo price is still better than Best Buy, unless you live in New York/New Jersey and have to pay their local tax anyways.
Interesting now the other authorized retailers are releasing the phone! Amazon should be next.
Also waiting for the LG V30+ unlocked. Still have to buy that second LG device, and it's going to be V30+.

No disagreement here, I'll be keeping the B&H order, but if they'll price match.... *twirls mustache*
Also, don't forget reward zone points and some may have reward certificates burning a hole in their pocket to reduce the cost further.
Do we have confirmation of an unlocked V30+ ?? I'd like one, but then the only difference is the extra 64GB of storage yes? I guess I'm okay with using SD cards depending on the price.

On the LG website, for the unlocked US998 there was a "coming soon" along with retailers like Best Buy, Amazon. There were both V30 and V30+ listed, and they were greyed out. Now, I bet if we found that page again, the V30 would no longer be greyed out for Best Buy.
B&H Photo was listed under "preorder" category, and both V30 and V30+ were listed, but the V30+ was greyed out, while the V30 was active.
So, strong implication the V30+ is coming.

Sound reasoning, I wasn't aware of that. Hmmm... if not for the $400 off deal I'd have waited. Guess I'll have to talk the wife into the V30 so I can have the V30+ ha

Already been answered many, many times in many, many threads.
There's a T-MOBILE network hidden menu in the US998 that requires root for access.
With root, you may possibly enable it from there, or with root you can (possibly) flash the T-Mobile radio.
Here, go read this. I just answered identical question last night and provided screenshot.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=74717874
Understood. You would think LG would make that band available for foreigners who travel to the United States and Roam on TMO. Go figure.
For use on AT&T, i don't see bands 29 and 30 on the phone, which have been somewhat recently put into service in certain areas. Also, with the unlocked, non-carrier phones, I'm not sure you'll get wifi calling, VoLTE, and IIRC HD voice (or maybe it was HD recording...sorry). Just something to keep in mind.
@Buckwheat6, your sent me a PM question about the Best Buy unlocked LG V30, but you don't accept PMs? So, I have to answer here...
___
It's compatible with Verizon, but you'll need to stick on an already activated SIM card. Verizon won't activate a non-Verizon branded phone.
Sprint and their brands won't take non-Sprint, non-Virgin phones at all, to my knowledge. You can't "Bring Your Own Phone" to Sprint.
With Verizon, you can, but you need to have an already activated SIM card to stick on, from another Verizon phone.
It's just safer for Best Buy to say it's not compatible, then to try to explain all that.

(sorry about the PM thing -- I'll check that out shortly.)...
When I went from The Note 4 (Verizon-branded) to the Motorola Moto X Pure (unlocked, purchased at -- you guessed it -- Best Buy), I needed a Nano SIM card. I just walked into my local Verizon store, asked for a new SIM card, and they popped it in for me and activated it no charge (I was shocked it was THAT easy, despite the fact that others on the Motorola forums had quoted similar success .) That was only last year (June 2016) so hopefully their policy hasn't changed.
Thanks again for the help!

OK, good luck then. I've just heard from others about Verizon control freak behavior on non-Verizon branded phones like the ZTE AXON 7, which was also just last year, in 2016. You had to stick in an already activated SIM card.
So, if that policy has changed, then I don't know why Best Buy says it's incompatible with Verizon. That's totally wrong information. That's probably just their stock boilerplate wording for any "unlocked" phones they sell -- many of which don't have CDMA.

I will be interesting if these bands can be enabled or if the AT&T modem could be easily flashed. Pretty disappointing a flagship might not have full LTE support for a major carrier.

See above. Doesn't even need root. People already did it on the Canadian version and others -- adding bands via the hidden menu.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74506190&postcount=5
The only thing we can't yet enable without root is LTE BAND 71.
People got VoLTE on open market (carrier unlocked) version of LG G6. I see no difference with the LG V30.

Does this also include WiFi Calling on AT&T?
Also, when I look at the linked thread above in regards to unlocking bands, the image shown for the bands does not include bands 29 and 30. The list seems to stop with band 25 being the highest on the list. Now maybe it's possible that more bands are listed in that photo, but they are at the bottom of the list, off-screen...but I don't know.

There's a another screenshot from another user showing more bands. That was just the first page, to show the idea. Just because the first screenshot stopped with 25 doesn't mean that's all there is.
Can't find the screenshot right now but found this.

This is for the U.S. T-mobile, yes -- but all those bands are NOT listed on the U.S. T-mobile spec website, but can be enabled in the Hidden Menu. We know "71" is not listed visibly in the hidden menu for the unlocked US998 -- but ALL the others probably are. Point is, ignore the listed bands. You can enable what you want.
EDIT: FOUND IT.

This is awesome. How did you get the match? Before or after you purchased? Did you call or email?
I just ordered from B&H tonight!

I first bought from B&H, then noticed BB was $20 cheaper so I emailed B&H customer service and asked nicely about a price match of $20. After a couple days I received no direct reply from B&H CS, but I did receive an automatic email saying they were processing a $20 refund. Thank you B&H.
It should be noted I did this when BB had stock though and I've noticed they're now sold out at BB... So this could change future decisions for others.
