Issue: apps auto open & alarm sounds independently - Moto Z2 Force Questions & Answers

For about a month I have noticed apps automatically opening on my phone. They bypass the lock screen or interrupt what I am doing, and are most often apps that I NEVER USE!
I have also been experiencing phantom alarms. I have no alarms set, as I am off work for my wedding/summer, and yet my phone around 6am on random days, displays the alarm audio, vibration and screen funtions of a typical alarm. I've gone as far as to delete preset alarms(which were turned off) and the alarm issue is still occuring.
Are these issues related to the last update? Or is there something I can do to fix at least 1 of them?!

Have you tried to use the phone in safe mode, you might have an app or somethin malicious interfering with your phone. If it does not happen in safe mode the you will know its one of your apps. Also are any of your apps not from the playstore.

I have not tried using my phone in safe mode, and all of my apps are from the play store.
I haven't had any apps open independently in a few days, however the alarm has become a daily occurrence.

Check the moto actions settings, nice in theory but I think it's the culprit for a lot of the ghost actions that occur.

The only moto action setting I have enabled is "One button nav", not sure that that would be the culprit. Should I "force stop" that app?

If it's updated, maybe try rolling back the update. If that isn't an option you might try not using one button nav, might not need to stop it. Though if it persist you might try it and observe. I just know that the random app opening and alarms is a common issue across moto phones and some have stated that moto action is the problem. Honestly, it's a moto problem like the random reboots etc. You'll most likely just have to search around for a solution until moto fixes it properly.

Settings disappearing randomly, especially TouchPal Keyboard

I've run into this with a few different apps, where my settings will disappear, and if it's an account-based app, I'll be logged out of my account. It's a minor frustration.
HOWEVER, a giant frustration is the settings disappearing for my keyboard of choice, TouchPal. This happens quite often, usually a few times a week, and twice yesterday. I always reset them back to my preferred settings, but it happens again and again. I'm not really sure why, and I'm hoping maybe someone here has a solution, or at least others have experienced the same problem.
Fire OS force closes a lot of third party apps, often when screen off. Perhaps this causes data corruption or something too. I had it with adguard. I used an xposed mod called appsettings to make it 'resident' and changed its notification priority to high and it hasn't happened since.

Delayed Notifications In Android P

First off, I disabled adaptive battery in Android P. Ever since the upgrade from 8 to 9, I noticed that notifications are right around 5 minutes late. I have a couple time-sensitive apps that I need notifications right away. Gmail and another app for my home automation. In Android 8, the were flawless. However, ever since going to 9, not so much.
I also noticed that when I delete messages in the gmail app for gmail and an IMAP email server I have it does nothing with the messages on the server. I login to webmail from a computer and the messages are still in the Inbox.
Anyone have any ideas? I am going to try a wipe again to see if it resolves the issues, but I am out of ideas. I had the above issues in Android 9 beta as well. I would downgrade and it fixed them.
I have the same thing and it turns out it is a common issue with Pie. I have not found a solution yet. I have read all kinds of things people have tried and nothing seems to help. Sorry that I can't be more positive. Hopefully Google will figure something out and fix in an update.
Here is a two page post I started about the issue but there are also many others online describing the same thing:
https://forums.androidcentral.com/android-pie/904647-notifications-delayed-stopped.html
My thought is that the delayed notifications are due to Android Pies implementation of adaptive battery. Maybe try excluding the apps you want to receive notifications from in a timely manner?

You don't happen to have data saver in the quick tiles turned on by accident do you? That does prevent notifications from getting pushed. Both my parents had this on and a bunch of notifications came through after turning it off. I made sure to remove it from even being an available option.

been fighting with this issue as well, but it only seems to be gmail, and a couple other apps, my sms notifications seem to come through fine, at least as far as I can tell. I've turned off adaptive battery etc, nothing seems to make a difference. sometimes i can turn my screen on and all the notifications will come flooding in, other times they come through 10ish min later.
yes i have also these issue
and i opened thread on these https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/help/gmail-sync-problems-pie-t3839357
also i tried many apps, but instead of gmail but yet i didn't find any solution

Made sure it was off early on. No change.
The best way to describe my issue is that once the screen times out and has been off for at least about 5 minutes, notification sounds are delayed. It is sort of like the phone goes into a deeper sleep or something and then the problem arises. As soon as I use my fingerprint to wake the phone, all notifications blast through.
The delay can vary. Sometimes it is only 15 minutes or so, but often it is much longer. It is almost like once in a while an app wants to call home or something and to do so wakes up the phone just enough to allow some notifications through.
There also seem to be some issues with individual apps and notifications that may be fixed when a developer updates their app for Pie. For example, most apps notify immediately when the screen is on or within that first 5 minutes or so after the screen goes off. But since installing Pie, Kuna always has a delay of 5 to 10 minutes before notifying. Kuna does this 100% of the time. In fact if I have the phone awake, looking at the screen when walking out the front door, when the motion sensor is triggered, immediately there is a notification icon. But the sound notification is always delayed. This seems like an issue with Kuna and they are well know for being very slow with updates and fixes but eventually they do fix things. But the notification sound delays described in this thread do indeed seem like a system issue with Pie. Hopefully enough people will have the issue that Google will figure it out and fix.
I am having same issues after updating to Android P. At first, notifications came late about 5 min, but then they started to vary some coming in 15-30 minutes later. Can't figure out what is causing the time difference but either way I can't find a fix. I spoke with Google support and they had no fix as well.

Nope, they didn't mention anything about existing issues or being aware of the issue.
Any one found any solutions or fixes? I feel like my notifications are becoming even more delayed now and have also realized I'm not getting a lot of various notifications at all (through many different apps).
I am guessing you all are aware of this, and have tried, however I just found this recently and thought I would share for anyone that doesn't know.... Settings > Apps and Notifications > Advanced > Special App Access ..... Lots of options here with one of them being battery optimization for individual apps. After I upgraded to P, hardly any of my frequently used apps were given full battery use. Haven't played with all the other options there, however just granting apps full battery seemed to help me out.

One of the first things I tried was giving full useage, (no battery optimization) for all apps that I want notifications from. Did not help. Many other apps are still being optimized. I thought I had previously found a way to turn off all battery optimization but because I do have many apps in that list that are being optimized, I obviously did not. Right now I can't find a global setting to turn off battery optimization even though I thought I did before?
So I noticed this morning, that the main app/notification that's super delayed (5-10min after the event should have triggered) it doesn't happen when my phone is plugged in or i have the screen on in my hand. Even after going through all the battery save features and making sure this app is exempt from them, it still happens if the screen is off, or my phone is off the charger. super annoying. wish there was a fix for this already!

Verizon sent me a replacement because of this problem. I was apprehensive, but got a very nice re-furb. Still have the same problem, but I got a phone that is indicated as Verizon on the LG site. In developer mode, the bootloader unlock button works. I guess everything isn't bad. I sure hope Google straightens this out soon.

This happens only with Gmail on my phone - WhatsApp and Messages send instant notifications. Messages isn't optimized, the other apps are.
I can live with that, no big deal. Perhaps disabling battery optimization for Gmail would fix this, though.
Interesting note: I was talking to YouMail support today about something else but I asked about an issue where I get an email and transcript of a new voicemail but when I go to the YouMail app that voicemail is not shown until I drag down from the top of the screen to refresh the list. Support told me they are aware of this but can not do anything because it is a problem with the "latest Android version causing delay". So it is becoming a more widely known issue and hopefully Google will fix soon.
Thanks for all the feedback. Speaking of delay, I think I have tried just about every fix here and then some and still no luck. Wiping the phone did nothing as well. At this point, I would almost like to revert back to v8 to get this fixed.
I tried this supposed fix, (reply #51). https://forums.androidcentral.com/a...ifications-delayed-stopped-3.html#post6355714
No idea if it worked for me as when you restart the phone you need to do it again and less than 30 minutes after I went through the steps, my Pixel2 got the October update for Pie and required a restart!

Applications force close. Slowness in picture access.

Hello everyone
I have been experiencing force close after force on my Pixel 3xl. I ordered my pixel 3xl on launch day. A week after receiving my device I started to receive sluggish and force close after force in several different apps. I have never experienced android behaving this way. I started to notice that the phone would get sluggish when using Android Messages. When I am receiving an MMS message the phone will lag and then the message will come through. After messages started to act up, other apps such as; Flamingo for Twitter, Instagram and Google plus would force close. For starters I don’t run any app killers, or ram management. I thought the December Pie patch would fix the issue, but I still see it on a daily basis. I reset my phone, and less than a week later, I would see this same behavior. The phone is basically unusable. I contacted Google for an RMA. They processed it and the new phone is still acting this way. This is really odd this behavior would be happening to 2 phones. I have reset the new phone from google once. Not only is this behavior odd, but it would be really hard for me to believe I am the only person experiencing this issue. Thought about rooting it but don't know if that would even help.
Side note: I have noticed when in flamingo for Twitter or Android messages that the phone takes awhile to open or back out of a picture. Sometimes a white space will show near the upper part of the phone (both sides of the notch)
Any help would be appreciated.

Two phones exhibiting the same behavior? It has to be something you are adding (user apps and/or settings) as you set the phone back up. You said "less than a week later" you would see the same behavior- but that means for the first week it was acting normal, correct? Try running the phone in safe mode for a good while and see if the situation changes. If the issue goes away it will confirm it is one or more of your user apps is causing the issue. If it remains the same I would flash a factory image from fastboot mode and let the script wipe the phone (don't edit the script). This is different from a FDR (reset). Then when you set the phone back up add any user apps in stages, allowing a period of time between setting them up. Are there any apps you suspect? Any "non-market" apps? Rooting will not help you, so I would leave that variable out of it until you get the problem sorted.

I don't use Facebook or Snapchat, I know those apps are really tough on the ram, so I stay away from those. I don't install apps that aren't from the play store. The weird part is I've installed the same apps from my pixel 2xl. I don't install alot of apps to begin with. Ive researched people having issues with the Android messages app and there is a Google forum for this issue, however I installed Textra and I still see the issue just not as bad. During the last reset, I took days to install flamingo for Twitterand Instagram because I suspected them being the issue. Yesterday, I installed them and I started facing the issue. I uninstalled those 2 apps but the issue persisted. Now, it could be those apps but to me it would be a widespread issue if it we're those 2.

I still believe that because you experience this same issue across two different phones, it is something in your personal setup. No abnormal indications under battery usage or data usage (background or foreground)? As suggested earlier try running in safe mode for an extended period. If the problem is gone, you just work your way through the suspect apps until you find the offending one. You can also try resetting all app settings under System>>Reset options before resorting to a clean flash.

Think Nova launcher. Back it up, uninstall it completely, then see how it goes.
I agree has to be a user app, my 3xl doesn't exhibit this issue. My crappy banking app does this but its very poorly optimized. App devs need to catch up to 9.0

It's not Nova Launcher. You mention slow picture access so I would be looking at apps in that direction. Any apps consistently FC more than others? Do you use cloud backup for Photos? Do you have any super large photo speres, panos, or RAW photos on your phone?
Edit: another thought would be to run a quick check on the non-Googly apps for "last updated" timestamp on the Play Store. You may be running an older app that hasn't been updated in years and is written with an outdated API.

The only apps force closing more than others are Android messages, flamingo for Twitter, and Instagram. It will start with Android messages, which causes the device to slow down, then the other apps follow by force closing. The device always seems to hang/lag when a group message is coming in. I only back up through Google photos on wifi. I combed through the settings and nothing stands out that could be causing the phone to force close these apps. For now, safe mode has the device working normal.

Near perfect but an aggressive background app issue holds it back. Any advice?

I've had my 7T for about a week now. Its such a dang good phone. I love it. But I've one issue I'm looking for help with.
Apps that I expect to do things in the background don't work.
Example 1: Spottily is set to auto play when the bluetooth connects. On my Samsung as long as the app was in the background I didn't even have to unlock the phone. On the 7T I have to wake up the phone and bring the app into the foreground before it will start playing.
Example 2: I have an app that will let me download from instagram, it sits in the background and intercepts clip board links. Works great on my samsung but on this phone I have to switch to the app before it will do its thing.
Its as if its heavily throttling apps in the background and I've found now way to change that. Any advice?
edit: I have tried the following with no effect.
1. Tried locking the app in multitasking
2. Turning off battery optimization for the apps in questions

I have no such issues. Whatever app I want to keep running in the background is always running. I've had such an issue with my previous huawei phone, and the button mapper app. I don't experience any of those. I have a 7T HD1903 on OOS 10.0.8.

Question "At a Glance" no longer showing temperature on the lock screen

Hello,
I've had this issue since launch and I can't figure a way to fix this. Basically, when I first got my phone, the lock screen was displaying the temperature under the time, with a "tap to learn more" button. And after clicking that, it simply vanished from existence, never to be seen again. It does show itself back when there's a Google Calendar event, but the temperature is gone. And after doing a factory reset recently, the temperature is back, with the "tap to learn more" (which I don’t plan to press, now that I know this will make it go away)
Is there a way to fix this? Thanks
That's a lot of overkill
Find the app and clear it's data next time.
There may be a conflict... like with the Google app*. Could be in settings, somewhere, or in notifications. Disable all power management for now... it will cause erratic behavior.
You need to play with it.
* that nasty little permission to change system settings... can be misused.

I get it. But I had to reset my phone anyway.
My problem is that it shows the temperature, but as soon as I press the "tap to learn more" thing, it shows a slide about at a glance and it just goes away.
So I don't think it's a permission issue if it works just fine before clicking on the forsaken text

You need to track down the associated apks first then look them over. It may be a glitch that you can correct or maybe resetting the apk data is the only way to correct it.
Try clearing the system cache.
Try it in Safe mode to rule out 3rd party apps.

Also what kind of apk are you talking about? This is literally the lock screen

I don't have that device but troubleshooting is troubleshooting. You need to dig around for the apk but it's most likely there under system apps.
It's possible the firmware flash was corrupted if so a factory reset won't work. More likey it's a glitch.
Hopefully someone here knows the answer but it's not a major issue. I would tend to just ignore it other then to play with it as a curiosity. No doubt you'll find better fish to fry...
