I know @RetroTech22 had this issue on the Honor 7x, but as they got no replies on their thread, and as their thread is old and nobody looks at it, I need to expand about this "problem"

I've had my Honor 7X for 2 weeks now, and everything is working great! But whenever I tap or knock lightly on the back of the device around the upper half, particularly near the fingerprint scanner and camera, I can hear something rattling inside. I don't think anything is loose because when I shake the device up/down, sideways, there's no rattling sound. It's only when I tap or knock on the back towards the top. My camera and fingerprint scanner work no problem. Should I be concerned or is this normal? Thanks!

I have the exact same "problem" but everything works as expected. I've had this phone since Christmas and have now just noticed it, I don't know when it started.
I have a hunch this has something to do with the cameras, or something inside the cameras?
Should I be concerned or is this normal for the device?
EDIT: Since Honor 7x does not have OIS or EIS, there is less of a chance the camera is producing the noise? I really need to know what the heck is happening with my device...
EDIT 2: Here's a video taken on my Honor 7x with the "problem" https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wPSuzJvIe64-6vRK7sBYKE53U9DB13Ex/view?usp=sharing, it is me tapping the phone in the dark because it was like 1am in the morning, so don't go thinking dirty thoughts lol

I did not notice it till now, but I get the same sound when I tap near the camera. I did not have any issues with the camera since 3 months. So, I think it's normal.
One simple answer if you are very much concerned open it and look for yours. Maybe any attached cable may have come out or if everything is working fine leave it because opening will void the warranty of the device.

Hey Fairphoners,
I guess you've heard about the problem of having dust inside the phone and on the camera (see main fairphone post or https://fairphone.zendesk.com/hc/communities/public/questions/200997773-dust-inside-phone).
How are you dealing with this? I myself had to open my phone recently to clean it and now, a few weeks later, my camera can't focus again..
If many people are affected by this problem one could (and should) get in touch with the fairphone staff.
Greetings!
Bump!
I won't believe that no one else experienced this problem yet, so let me ask this: how many of you still use their cam since the beginning without having cleaned it.
Don't be so shy
I do, though it might be my low standards.

I did it yesterday after I finally got me the fitting tools.
It's way better again and the pictures are better. You see it best, when looking at details (I compared a dusty one with the cleaned one, when taking a picture from the same object)
But since then my microphoe is really almost silent. I have to speak really loud so the other side will hear me...
I did not do anything to the microphone...
Anyone an idea?
@Vinnl: So, did I get it right that your camera still focuses correctly (especially when you are close to the object)? Or did you mean that you are not really using the camera..?
@haiag: Hmm.. I did not experience nor hear about such a difference in the microphone sensitivity - maybe some of the connectors/connecting parts on the motherboard have been touched?

I don't know what "correctly" is, but most of the times is focuses, sometimes it doesn't, but I guess that is normal? I use it now and then, but not that extensively.
I got my FP1 in January and took a number of pictures since then (~700 or so). Never had problems, no dust, no focus issues, no red tinting. I even can't remember where I put my Casio Cam as the FP1 makes faster and better snapshots. But I think that won't help you anyway now, does it?
Argh, you guys have been lucky with the phone..
But thanks for the answers, 'cause any answer is better than no answer
PS: To test your focus just take a picture of a text and see if it's sharp/readable afterwards.
Mine can't focus a text on a piece of paper anymore.. Either it shows the red rectangle and it doesn't take the pic or the green one but then the pic is not readable/completely blurred (and I mean like *completely*)

This is what I get: https://i.imgur.com/0rAk4nS.png
(If I move the camera closer to the paper it cannot focus either, but I suppose that is to be expected at some point.)
^that looks good, compared to my pics
Is there a way to change the annoying feature of the camera (only issue I have) that just loves to float around? Holding camera still, it still moves around which drives me NUTS!
Hmm what issue is that? I shook my phone around just now, and all it did was focus quickly, then stood still.
do you notice any drift when you lay the phone on a table or a cell phone mount? any other movement might be just phone trying to focus to your small hand movements.
Are you referring to the OIS, cause that's normal if so. Not an issue to my knowledge..
sent from my unicorn
Hmmm, I don't have this problem. If my hand is slightly moving the image stays relatively still, and if my hand is still the image is perfectly still.

I've just noticed the camera drifts even when I'm perfectly still, it may be the OIS but to me that's an issue and is ridiculously annoying as I can't zoom into anything because it just moves all over the damn place. Wonder if we can fix that somehow with root
If I'm not mistaken, OIS is controlled on the board of the camera. Due to this, there may be no way to control it. I would maybe stop into a Verizon store and play with a floor model. If the floor model doesn't exhibit this behavior than I would try to exchange your current device for a new one.
I personally do not have any issues with drift. The only I experience that floating look is when my hand is moving when trying to aim the camera.
If I rest the camera on something stationary, then zoom in fully to 8X, I will see the image move around. I don't notice it when zoomed out.
I have seen this on at least one other Verizon G4, as well.
Those who don't see the image moving around, can you reproduce it if you try it the way I described above?
my Finger Print sensor is not so accurate. I can finally says that is the same model and sw from the Galaxy S10 .
Disappointed about that
I can't complain, I'm having better luck with it than what was on the Note 9, even if I do wish the 10+ still had iris scan.

This. For a device to be their top tier monster, I'm surprised they didn't put something better than just basic face recognition in it.
I'm happy with it! it sucked on the first day but then I got that update that said it would improve fingerprint stuff and it actually did! it made it more sensitive and fast. it barely ever fails now.
Zero problems.
Having written that looking at this forum I must be unique in that I am a satisfied customer with the Note 10+. Nothing better or even close.
With respect some posters here really do need to look outside the box at what we HAVE here! Latest moans seem to be around 60hz. Last year it was something else the year before something else too.
What ARE our expectations of a smart phone? Where does this quest for bigger, smaller, fatter, slimmer etc end?

No device is perfect. I don't have any issues with criticisms, there is certainly nothing wrong with wanting more for the price being paid. Just because one person is happy doesn't negate folks that see negatives anymore than it affect someone that thinks it is perfect. That's the wonder of not being in an echo chamber.
I'll certainly defend design choices I see as beneficial, but I won't discredit someone's opinion of not including a higher hz screen for instance. You mean you wouldn't like that being a part of the device? That's just one example.
I just get an air of "don't complain because we have perfection", that kind of defeats a large purpose of these communities.
Maybe someone's gripe can be solved through another solution they knew nothing about. Maybe someone's gripes will help someone else make a purchase decision that better serves their taste.
Maybe it will help someone identify an actual defect and get it repaired..
I have zero issues with my FP reader. I know it's supposed to be the same sensor as the S10+, but I feel the one on the N10+ is more sensitive than the one on my wife's S10+.
I only have issues when I miss it, because I don't turn on the screen first and have to guess where it is. But I'm actually getting better about that too.
I'm excited to install my Whitestone Dome tomorrow when it arrived and see if it affects the FP sensor negatively. Online reviews say it doesn't cause any issues.

follow the instruction to the letter and it didn't affect my fingerprint scanner in the slightest, works identical to the factory fit protector for me.
Still not perfect but much better then my s10 plus. Don't like it as much as say pixel 3 or note 9 scanner on the back but it is getting better!

Great news! Thank you!
I feel like the fp scanner learns/or gets better as you use it. It was the same case with my s10. Never had any issues with it except the first couple of times. After that even with the screen off no issues. I know people that don't use it and they have "issues" with it.

I'm having zero issues with the fingerprint scanner as well. I have thumb and forefinger on both hands and let me tell you.....I have missed a front fingerprint scanner in the last two Notes.
I do make a point to rotate my fingers when I do the set up, I wonder if those having issues didn't do that.
When using good lock lockscreen, the fingerprint is worse than without it.
I have a Whitestone dome screen protector installed (perfect install too, I'm impressed with myself lol), and I noticed the fingerprint sensor is definitely hit or miss for me. Even with the sensitivity boosted it seems to have problems at times. I also tend to have dry hands which from my understanding causes problems with the reader.
I'm not going to blame the phone because I never even touched the glass before the protector went on, so I will blame it on the dome.
I would be interested in seeing if others with this protector are having issues.

I'm not having the best of luck either. I haven't got the Aug firmware update yet & that might help. I'm going to add my same finger a couple more times & see if that helps. I'm using the insecure face unlock as I miss that iris scanner so, so much.

I'm coming from the Note8 and the rear fingerprint reader is instant. The Note 10+ is a hit and miss. There are times where it registers instantaneously and there are times it takes a few times to register. I haven't downloaded the Aug firmware. Hopefully that will fix the hit and miss readings.

I have the August firmware and I wouldn't even call it hit or miss ...... It is truly terrible
Phone is otherwise great but the fp reader is practically useless
It's great for me. August patch. Once I learned what it likes, by testing checking finger prints, it doesn't miss. I also have the stock screen protector on and increased the screen sensitivity.

Definitely sounds like an issue with the autofocus. To confirm, is this on stock firmware with the OnePlus camera app or gcam mod?
As the OnePlus 9 phones use a laser autofocus, I'd check that nothing is obstructing the focus lens first (to the right of the top camera sensor). If you have a camera glass protector, there ones I've used put a hole there to avoid distortion but with the downside dust builds up and I need a qtip to clean it.
If this is right, the reason it works at first is it goes to its default focus level on boot and tapping to focus then directs the laser
Its a stock firmware with One Plus camera app. No lens protektora used. She uses original case what was un the box.
Assuming the laser isn't at fault, I'd say there's likely defective hardware, multiple parts it could be though. You could try the gcam mod app and see if that helps, if it were better there, then we would know its software and not hardware, but that's unlikely given the problem.
Ok. Will try
First let me say that I haven't dropped my phone ,except couch to rug. This morning I was trying to rotate the display and I noticed a clicking sound in the camera area. Now when I shake it it sounds like a kids rattle. As far as I can tell the camera still works - zoom, focus, all modes. But it's really troubling that a new phone has something come loose. And more concerned that it's going to continue breaking down. NOT happy at all!
Have you never heard your camera lenses move about your phone before?
When not in use, the lenses don't have a magnetic field keeping them in position and move around freely within the module obviously. All phones do this.
There have been multiple posts in multiple threads in this section. It's normal having to do with the telescoping camera. I believe it's reported that the iPhone is like this too.
I'll add that I haven't noticed anything from mine, and I have really sensitive hearing. I've also had mine in an OtterBox Defender case from day one, so I don't know if that muffles the sound.

That's the OIS. Every OIS rattles.
The bigger the sensor/OIS, the louder the rattle.
Meaning almost every modern phone has this rattle. Just try it out with your old phone, shake it whilst holding it next to your ear: You will hear the rattle.
The P6 Pros rattle is - loudness wise (vs other periscope phones) - slightly above average, but that's not concerning.
Samsung has a support page about this:
Do you hear a small noise from inside of the device when shaking your Galaxy phone?
FAQ for Samsung mobile devices. Find more about Do you hear a small noise from inside of the device when shaking your Galaxy phone? with Samsung Support
www.samsung.com
You can manually test this, by going into your camera and making sure that the tele lens is activated (zoom greater than 4/5) - if you shake it then, the sound will be massively reduced, simply because the OIS has kicked in. In it's "idle" state it creates the rattle.
Thanks all. Weird that I didn't notice it until today. I am a little less concerned now. I'll check the wife's 4a5G when she gets home. My LG G7 didn't have this rattle.
Also sorry about the dup post - didn't see the others, and I check at least once a week, but I hate this app. I had an (unofficial) app a few phones back that mimicked the website well - this one is a mess!

Yeah. I still use the new app occasionally but I do most of my XDA browsing (and especially searching) on the computer and a little in the Android Chrome app. The new forum software definitely has some nice things about it (although I can only think of one or two on the spot). I know they absolutely had to change forum software to make things easier in the background. I'm guessing that the new forum software came with a sample template app and either it's just not possible to implement things as nicely as in the old app, or they haven't been able to dedicate the time and effort to it.
Ah! Found a good search to find other posts about it, not that it matters now and it's probably not all-inclusive. Keyword: rattle.
Personally, whenever I hear about folks actually trying to reproduce the sound on any phone, I get nervous they are going to break their phones.

I don't want to cause any panic here, but it is definitely possible to break the OIS with prolonged, excessive shaking/vibration. It's a moving part that can only take so much. In a normal everyday-usecase, that will probably never happen, but there are a couple reports of people who use their phone on their motorcycle (various manufacturers/different phones) that have a broken OIS. Of course some people never tell the true story, maybe they thundered over a pothole with 200 km/h and that caused the OIS to fail, but in the end the reports remain and there is not much anyone can do about it.
I can vouch for what everyone is saying here. I just got my P6P today and it rattles if i shake it by my ear. Definitely dont constantly try to shake it and make it rattle, thats definitely adding wear and tear, although not much, but too much can cause problems.
