[ FINGER PRINT satisfaction ] How's yours ? - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Guides, News, & Discussion

my Finger Print sensor is not so accurate. I can finally says that is the same model and sw from the Galaxy S10 .
Disappointed about that

I can't complain, I'm having better luck with it than what was on the Note 9, even if I do wish the 10+ still had iris scan.

This. For a device to be their top tier monster, I'm surprised they didn't put something better than just basic face recognition in it.

I'm happy with it! it sucked on the first day but then I got that update that said it would improve fingerprint stuff and it actually did! it made it more sensitive and fast. it barely ever fails now.

Zero problems.
Having written that looking at this forum I must be unique in that I am a satisfied customer with the Note 10+. Nothing better or even close.
With respect some posters here really do need to look outside the box at what we HAVE here! Latest moans seem to be around 60hz. Last year it was something else the year before something else too.
What ARE our expectations of a smart phone? Where does this quest for bigger, smaller, fatter, slimmer etc end?

No device is perfect. I don't have any issues with criticisms, there is certainly nothing wrong with wanting more for the price being paid. Just because one person is happy doesn't negate folks that see negatives anymore than it affect someone that thinks it is perfect. That's the wonder of not being in an echo chamber.
I'll certainly defend design choices I see as beneficial, but I won't discredit someone's opinion of not including a higher hz screen for instance. You mean you wouldn't like that being a part of the device? That's just one example.
I just get an air of "don't complain because we have perfection", that kind of defeats a large purpose of these communities.
Maybe someone's gripe can be solved through another solution they knew nothing about. Maybe someone's gripes will help someone else make a purchase decision that better serves their taste.
Maybe it will help someone identify an actual defect and get it repaired..

I have zero issues with my FP reader. I know it's supposed to be the same sensor as the S10+, but I feel the one on the N10+ is more sensitive than the one on my wife's S10+.
I only have issues when I miss it, because I don't turn on the screen first and have to guess where it is. But I'm actually getting better about that too.
I'm excited to install my Whitestone Dome tomorrow when it arrived and see if it affects the FP sensor negatively. Online reviews say it doesn't cause any issues.

follow the instruction to the letter and it didn't affect my fingerprint scanner in the slightest, works identical to the factory fit protector for me.

Still not perfect but much better then my s10 plus. Don't like it as much as say pixel 3 or note 9 scanner on the back but it is getting better!

Whoa, I just took the latest OTA update and now I get 'The fingerprint sensor is not responding, try again later' !!!

Great news! Thank you!

I feel like the fp scanner learns/or gets better as you use it. It was the same case with my s10. Never had any issues with it except the first couple of times. After that even with the screen off no issues. I know people that don't use it and they have "issues" with it.

I'm having zero issues with the fingerprint scanner as well. I have thumb and forefinger on both hands and let me tell you.....I have missed a front fingerprint scanner in the last two Notes.
I do make a point to rotate my fingers when I do the set up, I wonder if those having issues didn't do that.

When using good lock lockscreen, the fingerprint is worse than without it.

I have a Whitestone dome screen protector installed (perfect install too, I'm impressed with myself lol), and I noticed the fingerprint sensor is definitely hit or miss for me. Even with the sensitivity boosted it seems to have problems at times. I also tend to have dry hands which from my understanding causes problems with the reader.
I'm not going to blame the phone because I never even touched the glass before the protector went on, so I will blame it on the dome.
I would be interested in seeing if others with this protector are having issues.

I'm not having the best of luck either. I haven't got the Aug firmware update yet & that might help. I'm going to add my same finger a couple more times & see if that helps. I'm using the insecure face unlock as I miss that iris scanner so, so much.

I'm coming from the Note8 and the rear fingerprint reader is instant. The Note 10+ is a hit and miss. There are times where it registers instantaneously and there are times it takes a few times to register. I haven't downloaded the Aug firmware. Hopefully that will fix the hit and miss readings.

I have the August firmware and I wouldn't even call it hit or miss ...... It is truly terrible
Phone is otherwise great but the fp reader is practically useless

It's great for me. August patch. Once I learned what it likes, by testing checking finger prints, it doesn't miss. I also have the stock screen protector on and increased the screen sensitivity.

Buyers remorse?

Anybody having it? I like the note 10+, but kinda have regrets with it. The fingerprint scanner is horrible. I get "ghost" touches often while typing and that's with the stock screen protector. The speakers are meh at best and there's a tinting issue with the grays on the screen. Debating keeping my S10e and returning this.
I wonder how returning would effect the freebies?
I think the fingerprint sensor isn't as bad as the one on S10....
Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
No regrets at all. I literally have none of those issues.
The fingerprint reader is great. Better than the one on my wife's S10+. I've never had a ghost touch, either.
The speakers are loud and clear. I think they're really good for a smartphone loud speaker. Especially with Dolby Atmos turned on.
And I don't have any tinting issues that I've noticed.
It sounds like you got a defective device. Maybe return for an exchange?

Didn't know if you bought from Samsung or a carrier. I bought from Samsung too. I know with the S8 and the Note 8, several people who had the pink screen issues and were able to exchange them through Samsung somehow.
As far as your freebies, I have no idea.
Have you tried reaching out to Samsung to ask them? There's a chat link in the Samsung Members app or you can get their 1800 number. Seems like that would get you a quicker more accurate answer than asking here.
I love this phone but we all have to be honest that the Fingerprint sensor is not great. Just not accurate enough and it's really tough to use in the sun.
I actually am returning mine. I just didn't think it was worth $550 more than my Pixel 3 XL, even with the trade in and the extras. I know I'm probably in the minority, but just didn't do it for me. I plan on getting the 4XL anyways, so I'll just hold my 3XL.

I just did. They want a few things first. So I will have to provide the info and spend time doing a reset and all that. The regular sacrifice with a baby goat dipped in chocolate with the blood of a virgin whale.
Nope phone is great.
Fingerprint scanner works great for me. Gotta press harder then you think.
Speaker sounds fine to me.
Touchscreen response just fine for me. No ghost touches.
Nice camera.
Overall great phone
I think when you set up a fingerprint, you have to use minimal pressure or else if you press it hard when setting it up, you have to press hard when you unlock it. I used a light touch when setting up mine and when I unlock it, i don't have to press hard.
Lots of remorse here.
Battery life is atrocious, fingerprint scanner is slow and not accurate, and I'm not really using the S Pen.
Camera is great, and the screen is drop dead gorgeous, but not worth the trade off.
I'll use it for another few days then return it if the battery life doesn't improve and/or there isn't an update that doesn't address the issues.
My OP7 Pro is a very difficult position to beat at this rate.
I'm not sure it's a worth upgrade over the s10+ for me. I got the 1tb version and it was a beast. My when reason for getting the Note 10+ is the screen and I'm not disappointed in that. I like the squared off looked compared to the curved corners of the s10. I think I'll stick with the Note but I'm not overwhelmingly imoressed. Battery life is great for me. The fingerprint scanner us definitely an improvement over the s10 too. Everything just works a little bit better I guess.
Fingerprint scanner sucks!! Worst ever
Battery isn't as good as it should be
All the rest works as expected
Havent had any of the OP issues.
Speakers sound better than the Note 9. I'm not even using DA and sounds excellent.
The fingerprint scanner works flawlessly for me. Took a bit of getting used to coming from the Note9 but works fast for me.
Battery, well today I'm actually testing it from 100 to zero. Current @ 72% with 2hrs of SOT and 3:20 hrs on battery. Seems to be working great.
No issues with screen. Loving the beauty of the screen.
I've only used the spen very minimal but the motion on the camera works great.
Loving the experience this far.
yeah my ATT model one is all boxed up and ready to be sent back to ATT, the Fingerprint is sensor is horrible, added 3-4 different of the same finger and still slow in unlocking and tired everything and reminds me of my S10+, so I`ll go back to my P20 pro for now, maybe go back to Oneplus 7 Pro, not sure yet.
Love the Note 10+ more than any previous smartphone
Love the phone
FP sensor is horrid, but I don't care I never like them
Screen protector options(because of FP) are terrible, but not really the phones fault and it will get better
speakers sound great and are very loud, though I wished they didn't vibrate
screen is GORGEOUS
SPEN works so well
Performance is amazing
Camera seems great but haven't used much.
Dex modes are huge improvement over Note 8
Went back to pixle3 gonna wait for the 4
What a terrible phone... overpriced junk ......
1)Sound is shocking
2)Fingerprints is so poor
3(Display is barely acceptable
4)S-Pen is useless
5)Battery life is a joke
6)Performance of the Exynos is unacceptable
7)12gb Ram is pointless
8)Glass build it breaks easy
9)Software is terrible
10)it is slow with updates
I'm going back to my good old Nokia 3310........
Oh please "note" the Sarcasm ...........
Most of these have to be a joke.
I still have the "protector" over the screen and the fingerprint sensor works great and is fast. Better than the S10+ and miles better than the S10e.
Battery life is good too. 6+ hours OST and still over 25%.
Unlocked USA 512GB black here.
Maybe some of you have carrier versions that are junked up?
Compared to the OnePlus 7 pro? LOLOLOL!

[Q] Why my fingerprint scanner is so awful?

Hi, question: i have a Note 10+ with all updates and updated via adb to Android 10 but my fingerprint scanner is still really awful. I have seen all yt video, seen all tuto on how to set the fingerprint but nothing!
Still awful, especially when finger is a bit wet. Is there a solution or is it better change the phone?
Maybe it is the way you registerd your fingerprints, my fingerprint sensor is accurate all the time
Are you using a screen protector? Mine sucks too. I have a glass one with the thin area in the glad over the sensor and I have used privacy film and it's ehh. It works perfect with nothing on it. Try turning the touch sensitivity up in settings and maybe re-register the print again.
Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk
(The touch sensibility have nothing to do with the fingerprint sensor though.)
Maybe they finger print again but dont press to hard
Upside down

You probably have, but try registering your fingers upside down and side ways.. and register loads of times with the same finger you mainly use, im sure you know all this though

, no, it is not, mine as many others work just fine, the fingerprint sensor for whatever reason doesn't work the same for all, odd, but not a so uncommon issue, and this happens among all brands
I partially blame the size of the sensor as well as the way they guide users through the enrollment process. The standard android fingerprint enrollment process, as i've experienced on my HTC U11 and Razer Phone 2, prompts for more finger edge samples. I actually went through the process on the Note as the software prompts and had mixed results. I then just decided to hit the sensor randomly with some overlap to give it a better overall picture of my finger as opposed to a bunch of samples of the same spot and then a few variants.
If you shine a flashlight at the screen you'll see the sensor size. It is a short rectangle that doesn't seem to cover the area that the fingerprint icon covers. I have an amFilm whitestone-style screen protector and while there is a slight difference, the stock experience was also not that great. I would recommend you try to figure out how you ACTUALLY use the fingerprint unlock. I noticed that while i'm enrolling i'm focusing on pushing with my fingers dead-on, in practice i actually use just the upper right corner of my thumb (if you're looking at the fingernail top-down). When I realized that I trained it with that in mind and it did perform better.
There was mention of the ones in the One Plus devices, which are actually different in that they are optical. Because they light up and read optically they have a more controlled environment than what the ultrasonic sensor on the Samsung phones. I can see someone with a deeper fingerprint patten be able to get better results vs someone with a very faint fingerprint. On oneplus devices though it would just be a different picture, but i'm thinking on an ultrasonic sensor there might not be enough peak and valley information to pass the threshold. Maybe samsung can make the pattern require less data points to match to unlock, but that would also mean it is less secure.
Bottom line is that while the tech has the potential to be more secure than optical under glass, it still has a little ways to go but it is serviceable once you get to it. I don't have big hands so i have to hold the phone in a very specific way to get a good grip on it. Once i figured that out, training the sensor again did yield better results.
I have the same problem. In sorry you haven't received a resolution, especially from Samsung who manufactured the Galaxy Note 10 Plus. I'm believe they were aware that it did not work with many 3rd party cases with protected screen covers. No matter how you register with screen off or on, the reader is intermittent and doesn't work with the cover. I hope you get the resolution as it will solve my issue as well.
The fingerprint registration process seems very glitchy too but after having experienced an awful 40% success rate with waking the phone using my fingerprint I deleted all the stored prints and started again. The secret is in storing decent prints so keep doing this until the phone unlocks with a 90%+ success rate like mine does now.

Has the fingerprint scanner been improved at all over the S10+ and Note 10+ ?

Just wondering if there has been any improvement to the fingerprint scanner at all?
From my understanding physically its using the same sensor/hardware. Whether software will enhance it, i think not. The TechChap did a video on his time with the S20 Ultra and it appears to be the same, slow and sluggish unlock. Which is a huge bummer. Does it have anything to do with what screen cover you are using?? I heard whitestone dome glass will help improve the finger print sensor but I could be wrong.
My S10 is lightning fast. In fact I have psoriasis and is the ONLY fingerprint reader that works reliably with my fingers.
Mine is brilliant as well by now. It took 3-6 months, yes, but after that it was perfect on mine.
After an early update about a month after the note 10+ came out I've had zero issues with the fingerprint sensor. Really fast and gets it on the first try 98% of the time even if i have something on my finger. I'm glad its coming back
Hopefully, it is a better than the s10+.
S10+ is perfect for me. Trick is to not leave finger on it until it unlocks. Just press and release and phone will unlock.

I use whitestone dome glass on my Note 10+ and it definitelly does NOT make the fingerprint reader better. In my experience it makes the response much slower although it's the best screen protector on the market in every other aspect..
I'm gonna stay with the OEM screen protector this time and keep my fingers crossed.
The fingerprint sensor performance is directly related to the moisture level of your fingertip. The dryer your fingertip the more likely you will have lag or issues of it not working at all.
TBH I don't care, use the face unlock feature and only need fingerprint in darkness where (face) doesn't work.
That's one thing I love about my iphone. Not having that huge notch is worth it.

Face unlock on the Samsung phones is very insecure and can't be used for higher level validation (banning apps and such). Just in case you didn't know.

Yes I'm aware and I don't use any such apps on my device so no worries.
If I want to lock down my device I remove ALL biometrics and use a complex password.
Anything else is always a compromise in security but more convenient.

Thanks for that tidbit of info. Just received my Ultra yesterday and when trying to use the fingerprint sensor (after a successful setup) , keep getting message to "push harder". Looking back though, my hands/thumbs are very dry. I will try to moisturize them somewhat and redo. Again, thanks for that tidbit of info.
Fingerprint is really fast .not as fast as a physical sensor but way faster than my a50 or s10 plus

Question Poll: How well does your Pixel 6/6 Pro Fingerprint Scanner work?

I made this thead poll as a guideline so we can see how many people are/aren't having issues with their FP scanners. If you are having issues what are the main issues?
I really don't have an issue with it and if Google's response to it's slow because of extra security then I'll take security over nanno seconds delay in unlocking my phone. Now that I have removed all the fancy useless animations, like I do on my phones it actually just seems as fast if not faster then on my S20. Yes when I 1st got my pixel 6 pro it did seem slower especially when like myself you have come from having Samsung flagship devices, I think a lot of the problems come down to muscle memory and now I've had my device for a couple of weeks I hit it bang on 9 times out of 10 just like my on my previous devices. It does what it's meant to do and that's secure your precious data on your phone. I wish I had a 3rd device so I could do a comparison video to demonstrate my unlocking experience.
I had a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Switched to Pixel 6 Pro and the fingerprint sensor on the Pixel, for me, is much better!
I set them up the same, but I like that the light shines through my thumb, it makes it more obvious that I have it right. For me the Pixel is better, much better.
Works as well as my OnePlus finger print reader, just fractions of a second slower.
Not had to change any setting such as animations for it to be reliable and just work.
Been fine for me, I'm guessing those having issues have small fingers.............I'd still prefer one on the back
works alright for me, but definitely not as instant unlock as I had on the 4XL. sometimes though I need to hold my finger on the screen for a second and a half to unlock, but most of the time it's quicker
You needed another option between 50% and 95%. Maybe "most of the time but not quite 95%" None of the three options fit my experience, sorry. Oh yeah, one more. "I use smart unlock so it doesn't bother me much." lol
No real issue. It's better than the LG G7 fpr I'm coming from which would consistently stop working for days.
Works better than the S20 Ultra and the S21 Ultra ultrasonic fingerprint sensor that I've used in the past.
I had a Note 20 Ultra as well and I didn't like the FP scanner on it too much but the S21 Ultra's was accurate and fast. The Pixels is super accurate, just a tad slower but it doesn't bother me at all since it works just about 100 percent of the time.
Works fine for my usage...
I've been having a good bit of issues with the fingerprint scanner and they aren't related to speed., about half of the time the Pixel 6 Pro can't read my finger print at all. I'm coming from Oneplus 7 Pro that feels light years ahead of this fingerprint scanner. I've tried all the tips and tricks people have been recommending, which has helped, but it still says can't read fingerprint 50% of the time. It's very frustrating.

Did you re-do your fingerprints after the most recent firmware update? (november)
Also did you heed the fingerprint setup instructions? (full underside first, then sides, then the tip etc). Meaning don't mindlessly hammer your finger on the screen, do what the setup tells you precisely and exactly.
The system tells you what to do - if you do that, it should work without a problem. I got my finger in the system (4x times the same one, just re-do the setup with the same finger) and it works without a problem, nowadays I am getting about ~95% success rate. Even partial ones get through, even though they might take a second or two to register, but that's okey since it's just a partial one.
---
Btw concerning the video that was spreading through reddit, where someone claimed that his girlfriend was able to unlock his phone, without ever having it set up - I recently found that it's possible to use two fingers when setting up one fingerprint at a time (go with one full thumb, then when it asks for the sides, use the other finger from the other person) - that probably happened here, someone tricked the system and then spread fakenews to gain a few likes/attention.

You're welcome.
The fingerprint setup system was changed after the firmware update, so it's basically mandatory to re-do your fingerprints if you want a higher success rate.
It's a shame that Google doesn't communicate this directly, it should be a system message suggestion right after the update.
What I'm wondering is that maybe some people ended up with a bad FP scanner? I mean it is a possibility since anything can be bad but hopefully we can get enough feedback to get closer to the bottom of this. If someone who has a bad scanner can try someone else's and see if it's still an issue that would probably help although it's not like everyone you know will have a Pixel.
My pixel 6 pro fingerprint reader works most of the time for me. The worst fingerprint reader I've ever used was the Galaxy s20 ultra. That thing didn't read my finger half the time so I just defaulted to the password.
I didnt vote, but mines works about 80 to 90 percent of the time. but it sucks when it doesnt work. It seems it happens at the worst times possible.
It's good but not as fast, accurate or convenient as my Pixel 5 with the Ringke Fusion case and convenient finger-centering sensor cutout.

My pixel 6 pro fingerprint reader works most of the time for me. The worst fingerprint reader I've ever used was the Galaxy s20 ultra. That thing didn't read my finger half the time so I just defaulted to the password.

Same here with the Note 10+. I still kept using it but argh.

Question Fingerprint scanner

Had my P6 pro for a few months now, whilst I do like the phone I do have issues with it, the gyroscope seems randomly stop start, and the biggest issue for me is the fingerprint scanner, wtf do I always have to lick my thumb just to get it to work, I'm not saying it never works, but what I am saying is it hardly works,..I have decided to add 3of the same thumb finger prints to see if that helps, anyone else got this issue? Is it a common fault?
Iv had the pixel since March iv not had any problems at all only fee days I did have to restart phone as finger print kept failing but after that it was fine
Mine has been fine since day one albeit very slow to start with. That said i have always added both thumbs twice (plus a finger) for front scanners and both forefingers twice for rear scanners.
Since I done that reboot it's been fine I think I have both thumbs and pointy fingers both hands it's fine was funny I switched briefly to another phone while pixel was on charge showed finger print scanner on screen I was touching it like why ain't it working then remembered it's on the side of the phone haha
I got mine at the beginning of April and my fps works as good as the one on my OnePlus 7 Pro. If I'm out in direct sunlight I have to shade the screen, but it works reliably even with the screen protector on my Supcase.
No issues with the FPS on mine, especially after RMA my device. I feel that this FPS issue is overblown.

Lol it's not overblown. This fingerprint scanner is slower than my old S10+ and my Oneplus 8 Pro, AND it's much more inaccurate.
A friend of mine even stopped using the scanner as he unlocks quicker with his pattern. It's just sad

Yeah I also don't exactly have issues with it, it's just MUCH worse than every other scanner on the market. Even midrange phone shave better scanners than this

Just for comparison, the two Samsung Galaxy Note 10+'s that my wife and I used for a year and a half - we both had more trouble with the in-screen fingerprint reader than on any other phone we've had, including our P6Ps that we got after.
There just must be so many variables of what can go wrong using fingerprint readers that there's rarely a solid consensus about any device.

Ok, so either later p6p models are MUCH better or there are totally different variants of the p6p out there.

We pre-ordered our P6Ps on October 19th, and received them in late October or early November - I don't recall which. Immediately there were wide-varying reports of users' experience with the fingerprint reader.

My P6P was delivered on the day of release. It goes thud thud and it is unlocked , it is far too fast to count thats for sure. Mine is the EU/UK one so mmWave is missing.
You know what is hilarious to me? The people that complain about the fingerprint scanner do not wash their hands or clean their phones. Clean your phone, then your hands, and when theyre dry? Remove and replace your finger prints and wallah.
Come at me.

People hate the truth. People who complain about blurry images are the same ones with a smudge on the camera. I literally do not have a single problem with my fingerprint scanner. Very fast and very accurate. I maybe get one "missed read" a WEEK and that's when it's like sitting on a table and I try to unlock it that way. They don't like being unlocked if they're not held.
