Hi, I bought my HTC 10 around 7 months ago and a few weeks ago it restarted and it´s kept restarting since then. I tried doing a hard reset from the recovery because it doesn´t boot properly, but it didn´t work. I wanted to flash the RUU but I couldn´t find the right one on HTC SUPPORT. I wanted to try rooting my device and wiping data using TWRP to install a ROM and see if this could work, but as my phone doesn´t boot, I can´t unlock the OEM or debug developer mode.
Now I can´t even access to recovery mode so I can´t check my OS model, I just can access to bootloader mode.
If anyone can help me I´d really appreciate it.
Did your device still S-ON?

If you didn't do anything to your phone it's probably the battery. This is the most talked about problem in these forums. Can you boot to download mode? If so what's your CID?

I just wanted to try to fix my phone. It´d be really great if I can fix it by myself but know I´m not sure if I can do it.
If I can boot to download mode I´m gonna try to flash the RUU, but I couldn´t find the right one because my phone was made in United Emirates as HTC support told me

You need to flash ruu in download mode. What was wrong with your phone to begin with? Also what have you done? You can't just say I was trying to fix myphone and expect us to know what you have done. You need to provide more details

My phone is in a stuck in a bootloop, I was using it one day and it restarted by itself. I was able to use it for a few minutes and then it restarted again untill the point that it doesn´t boot anymore. The only thing I have done is a hard reset from recovery, but it keeps restarting. Now I can´t boot to download mode that´s why I haven´t flashed the RUU, I just can boot into bootloader mode and when I try to boot into recovery or download mode from there it restarts again.
im having the same issue.
the buttons randomly stopped working, so i restarted the phone only to be greeted with a bootloop.
i had lineage os on my phone for a while, and today i installed a update, so that might be related to the sudden bootloop.
when i press vol down + power it just boot loops. if i press vol up + vol down it boots into the bootloader.
trying to start download or recovery mode just gets me into a boot loop again.
the bootloader says s-on.
i just found this in another thread
jichuan89 said:
Unbelievable - I actually managed to unbrick my HTC 10!! :victory::victory::victory: I still don't understand exactly what happened, but I'll document everything I did...
Before:
S-ON
Flashed bad boot image in download mode
Could not enter download, RUU, recovery, or system mode - all of them enter into bootloop
Could only enter white background bootloader mode (Volume Up + Volume Down + Power), which only allows flashing signed hosd image
What I did:
Followed @Tarima's link above. With the phone in the white background bootloader mode, I ran fastboot flash $x $x.img with $x = each of the partitions. Except for hosd, all the other commands printed an error like
Code:
sending 'xbl' (1809 KB)... OKAY
writing 'xbl'... FAILED (remote: cannot flash this partition in s-on state)
but I continued anyway.
Selected "REBOOT TO BOOTLOADER" from white background bootloader
Downloaded an RUU exe file from here (I got the 1.96.617.20 version, but in hindsight it probably doesn't matter which version), and extracted an RUU zip file (following this guide on Linux)
Renamed the RUU ZIP to 2PS6IMG.zip, copied it to the root of an empty FAT32-formatted microSD card, and inserted the card into the HTC 10 (inspired by this post and this post)
Selected "BOOT TO DOWNLOAD MODE" from white background bootloader
This triggered a screen prompting whether to install update from SD card (photo).
I didn't need to actually install the update from the SD card; instead, the presence of a valid update on the SD card may have short-circuited whatever was causing the download mode to crash loop, and allowed the phone to enter download mode and accept fastboot flash commands. Since my problem was a bad boot image, I just did
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
with the boot.img extracted from the official Nougat OTA zip's firmware.zip, and it worked! Phone was able to boot back into system / download / RUU / recovery. :victory:
I'd already given up hope and bought another HTC 10 off Swappa I've now learned my lesson and I'm going to S-OFF at once.

i promised to update once i tested the methode. sadly it didnt seem to work for me.
flashing hosd worked like in jichuan89 case. but puting the 2PS6IMG.zip into a formatted sd card didnt seem to work for me.
booting into download mode sill gives me a bootloop.
unless someone comes up with a new idea on how to fix this, i might have to get a new phone :/

But when i try pressing only volume down key the gray HTC logo appears again. As if power button always pressing itself. I'm gonna try remove connection after normal HTC logo disappears. Hi,
I need help with my HTC Desire 2.2 stock (not rooted).
I don't know why but it can't boot (freeze on HTC white screen).
I tried vol down + power button to enter in bootloader then tried to clear storage and other items but I still can't boot in normal mode.
Anybody can help me please ?
How long have you left it before turning it off?
About 1 minute. How long should I wait ?
Since I cleared storage it vibrates 7 times quickly and doesn't boot.

Probably a hardware failure. But you can also try to download a stock rom. Then remove your sim and sd card. Go into the bootloader, select fastboot and then run the ruu on your pc.
If you still have the same problem you have a hardware failure.
cant enter boot loader as well
I have almost the same prob here. my phone is dead and after going to boot loader and want to flash a stock rom,the phone does not recover after RUU wanting it to reload bootloader

I extracted rom.zip from a stock ROM and tried flashing via SD card, but it either comes up as invalid CID or freezes altogether after 'Parsing PB99IMG.zip'

Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
If you have a cid error, then you have the wrong rom. Cid means that if you are branded, you can only flash branded roms. For example, if your carrier is vodafone, you should flash a vodafone stock rom. Otherwise you will get that error.
So i was trying to root my phone and now i won't start, can't even go to bootloader menu or so. when i'm pressing the power up button its just flashes and then shuts down. It loops so frequently that even my pc won't recognize it. What i did to the phone is this:

I think you might have soft bricked your phone. Search the forum how to unbrick a soft-bricked phone. That might help
Are you positive that your WFS is GSM -marvel-a510e ?
Also ,Could you be a bit more specific about what happens when you try to go to boot-loader mode or when you try to boot it.
As in the provided link, did you have to perform procedure 3 or did you perform procedure 2 and was it working? A bit more info about what you did could help others analyze the issue

At the link i did the procedure 1 because my phone couldn't update to 2.3.5 so i tried to update it that way.
when i start the phone it just flashes it's screen and then goes off. it doesn't show htc logo or anything it just flashes some pixels. the loop is so frequent that it happens in 3 sec. Even if i try to start the phone by pressing "volume -" key and "power" key it does same thing, just loops every 3 sec.
I have tried to find a way to fix this but it seem that there is nothing to do because i can't boot to recovery. Is there a way to put the phone to recovery in other way or is here a way to make factory install?
It's really hard to do anything to this phone because my pc won't recognize it in any possible ways and it won't boot to recovery mode.
Do anyone know if i split the phone in to pieces and then manage to boot it or find the system memory and change files in there.

Even if you want to unbrick the device using back-toback tool , you need to enter the boot-loader mode.
Even for other ways, still it needs to be detected by the PC so that we can pass commands using ADB.
Sorry Dude, I can't help much either I am new to this myself. But i hope somebody here will definitely help you
2. There is a possibility that you could "brick" or bootloop your phone. There are two types of brick: soft (recoverable) and hard (non-recoverable). With a soft brick, the phone will not boot or keeps rebooting ("bootloop"), but it can be started in bootloader mode which allows repair of the ROM. With a hard brick, the phone won't even boot into bootloader after holding the power button for 10 seconds and the phone must be returned to HTC for service.

then you haven't unlocked the boot loader and no recovery is also installed (I believe) . In this case, I think this is a hard-brick(Correct me if am wrong) which is impossible to recover . Anyways, we shall await other replies from DEVs here in the Forum.

I tried to unlock the bootloader but it wanted 2.3.5 so i tried to install the new version. now it can't do anything. Well this didn't broke my heart because the phone is pretty worthless . now i have to buy new phone sooner than i planned but still all help is still accepted.
Hi, exactly the same for me : I bought the phone 2 years ago and immediately unbranded it with a goldcard, but never tried to unlock it because it was my wife's and I didn't want to risk anything.
Now she got a new phone, I wanted to play a little with the Wildfire S ^^.
In order to unlock the phone on htcdev I had to update it from 2.13.401.2 to 2.13.401.3, with RUU because can't update with OTA (different CID), with goldcard inside.
After the RUU finished, it says "congratulations everything went well", but actually the phone does not boot, stocked in a loop "quick flash / turns off", can't access bootloader, no USB detection for ADB.
Can't send it to HTC because the 2 years warranty is expired, how ironic !
So... if anyone does know or see any trick that could help to boot anything on this "seems to be hard-bricked" kid... huge thanks to you
After trying to update firmware to newest 3.xxx I messed something up at first step, (i'm S-ON so i had to lock bootloader, now it says "relocked"), using ADB i wrote: "fastboot oem lock" and here I am stuck in this screen. I can:
REBOOT
REBOOT TO BOOTLOADER
BOOT TO DOWNLOAD MODE
POWER DOWN
But i can only jump from bootloader to download mode and reverse
but can't:
BOOT TO RECOVERY MODE (Failed to boot to recovery mode, press volume up/down to go back to menu)
Does any one knows how to fix this ? I can't access my phone from windows(beside device manager sees it as "MY HTC", but it is not present in "this PC" window where are all connected disks/devices), also i can't access it with ADB. I tried to do this on second PC but result is still the same, i can't access phone. List of attached devices is clear.
Please help.
You can't use adb commands in those modes.
In download mode fastboot command should work...
hey buddy find a fix for this. I am stuck on the same thing.
got it, you need to put new RUU on sd card, then from download mode flash it. And it works
Download mode (power + vol down), flash twrp 2.9.0.1. If that is what you did then redownload and push via adb again. Twrp.img is incomplete, that is why you cant boot to recovery.

So how about the SD card method of applying RUUs?
Read Flippy498's Google sheet for more information - he does a great job of explaining the process and guiding you to the right one for your phone.
Hey All,
I had the same issue with my m9. computerslayer the sd card method worked. With bootloader locked, S-On,
I downloaded the proper RUU for my device, changed the name to "0PJAIMG" and loaded it directly from my computer to the SD Card. After reinserting the SD Card into my m9 and booting to download mode it prompted me at the bottom of the screen to install the RUU.
After following all prompts to install and rebooting the phone it booted right up without any evidence of having been rooted.
Thanks for the recommendation.

No download mode = no way to flash a RUU

Did you ever get your phone working? I'm having the same exact issue right now and i don't know what to do
Yes my htc 10 is working again.
The Power got empty and After some days i charged it and since then the Phone Boots up normal again
I am experiencing the same problem. The phone has the latest update installed. (not rooted, bootloader locked).
I cannot go to any recovery modes.
Its so disappointing ! I'm in India but I bought this phone from middle-east on December 2016 and I have to sent it back there for warranty claim which will not happen very soon.
Have anyone found a solution for this problem ??
Something happened to my cell phone. I enter the bootloader but nothing works
I got same thing but I can't boot my phone any more, just totally frozen down. Not even I try hard reboot with power/power+volume down/power+volume up/power+volume up and down.
I can't do anything without the info on my phone.
Can someone help with this?
This can't be fixed

We cant fix this, even I tried to troubleshoolt but no luck. You have to contact HTC service and claim warranty. So you will get a new device. Very shame on HTC 10 design, One of my friends who was in HTC service centre has seen atleast 12 HTC 10 devices sent for bootloop issue.

Then is a huge problem for HTC. If they can't find out a way to fix it, they going to be lose a lot of money.
Dear All,
I have a strange problem with my HTC One M9. The phone turns on, but it cannot boot finally, it continuously turns off and turns on again and again... If I enter the bootloader menu with PWR and Volume down, the menu is appear, I can use the buttons up and down, but if I start the recovery mode, the phone shows the HTC logo with black background and it stucks here, so I cannot enter the recovery mode, therefore I cannot conduct factory reset and any of command in it. Is there any solution for that? Does have anyone boot file which can useable with microsd card and install automatically the android to the phone? How can I fix it?
Thank you.

Can you get into download mode? If so, we'll be best able to help you if you can tell us the OS version that is displayed there.
Also, have you read the readme thread at the top of this forum? You might be especially interested in learning about RUU files - what they are and how to use them. If there is a path forward with your phone, it most likely will be in applying a RUU file, if possible.

Hello,
I cannot enter download mode, phone says me "Failed to boot to download mode", thus I cannot tell you the OS version. This phone is not rooted or not performed any custom rom.

HTC Service center is the only way to fix.

I'm sorry to echo the post above, but without download mode there isn't anything you can do. You'll need HTC to service the device, or a competent 3rd party with the expertise and hardware to tackle motherboard failures (I have no idea who that might be).
