An exploit has been discovered for the Nintendo Switch, but apparently it affects all T210/Tegra X1 chips. It allows the execution of arbitrary code before the bootloading process has completed.

The Shield TV is not locked down so using this to run "homebrew" apps is kinda pointless. But it occurred to me that maybe it could be used to fix a bricked Shield? I don't know nearly enough about hacking to make use of this, but maybe someone out there will be able to investigate it.
That's my hope. I've started looking into using it for completely re-imaging shield devices, including after seeming hardbricks. Shofel2 got me further than fusee. But I haven't quite got it working yet. Give it a bit of time and I'm sure we'll get there.
Hopefully we can get a working version of the Wii emulator from the Chinese firmware, or even better - switch is on shield TV
Dual booted oses would be nice
I would like a way out of being unable to backup everything using such an exploit on my Shield TV Pro so I can backup all apps stuff before attempting a wipe away to fix a specific-case issue of swf players not working because of a crashing issue when attempting to access flash content for me since back when the 5.0.2 upgrade came out and still bugged each update afterward up to latest 6.3 upgrade.

Hello,
I tried fusee and Shofel2 also, fusee look like working but it will need to redirect video output to HDMI according to answer of Kate Temkin, i dont have enough knowledge to do that , do you know how to do that?, it will be nice to see some output feedback on the screen of my bricked shield 2015 again .

Thats really good news to hear, i hope you the best.
As an aside, and curiousity, in your expert opinion, if you're lucky enough to get a breakthrough, would this make it posible for someone to swap around the micro adb/fastboot port on a 2015 16gb version with one of the other full usb ports, for situations where the micro usb port for adb/fastboot is busted giving us the option to use adb/fastboot on one of the full sized usb ports. sorry for formatting
Edit: sorry steel, did not realise the date of the post, please feel free to disregard

Is there anyone who has made any headway in their research on cracking or unlocking the bootloader? My short research confirms that it is using a 256-bit encryption algorithm, but I've not identified the algorithm used, nor do I think it would matter, as I really have no intention of doing a cryptanalysis on something that strong and I doubt anyone else would, either. Out of curiousity, though: anyone know offhand?
I'm curious to know what methods you guys are attempting to employ and what, if any, other research has already been done. I'd like to help, where I can.
**** if i knew more about it id take a crack at it but unfortunately i lack the skills required. Guess its time to learn huh.

Vache and I worked on it yesterday for about 6 hours. We didn't get it cracked yet but we are making progress. Don't bother with trying to get your SBK (secure boot key) because A: you won't be able to crack the encryption & B: we have a "secret" way to extract it from the tablet (shhhhh!) (and no, we won't share it just yet, sorry )

Ahh. Yes, it looks like I noticed vache's call for test in the ROOTED thread a bit late, sent him a PM a couple hours ago.
If you guys need another "Linux guy" or a fresh set of eyes, feel free to PM me. I'll keep poking about the system on my own, in the mean time, as well. Good luck on the research!
This is great news!

Go for it, the Developers of the XDA community don't owe you anything and if this is how you are going to help (by complaining) then you are better off selling this wonderful device. Patience is a key thing with this device, just like the atrix its just a matter of time.

Yes, different bootloader, due to both having different versions of hc. The A100 is newer, has newer programming, and leaves us with a different place to start. I myself have tried putting every single script of my A100 into an emulator on my PC to attempt to "reverse engineer" the bootloader to try to decrypt it, but that was unsuccessful for many reasons.
ummmmm............ could you repeat that?
Rather new to androids but I would consider myself a Linux guru. I just picked up an A100 on an open box sale and I would like to get involved in cracking the bootloader on this device. I am a professional low level developer and I have contributed to the development of several major open source projects including Gentoo and Fedora.
I also own a new Samsung Nexus S. Whose working on this now? Is there anything you need help with?

Our biggest challenge with this device is the 256bit encrypted bootloader from hell.. if you know a cryptologist, or some one at acer, that would help a ton

I would love to have this thing cracked open but I must say with a few tweeks this is a fast stable tablet. I do not know what I would want changed other then the native bluetooth PAN menu.

That's the route Im going as well, so far I've compiled 2nd-init and it runs, but it crashes right after initalizing the memory and reboots the tablet (I dont think I have the correct memory address of init for the hook to work properly so it reboots the device). I've also tried log's kexec hack and I dont think it works. Asks for a kernel to load, which I dont have but, I dont think our current kernel supports kexec, so a module would have to be compiled for it. Im no kernel developer (I understand how they work, and how to mod an existing one, but building onne from scratch not so much). With kexec, it requires a special kernel the starts up where your current kernel resides in memory, so it would be harder to get working than 2nd-init.

You can't really brute force this kind of thing, we need to use some sort of exploit, would take millions of years or something like that.

Hey everyone!
I've been looking at the A100 lately, as I have the ability to obtain one (new) for $75 and change (after a credit with the store). However, after reading this thread a bit, I'm concerned about the emmc issue.
Has Acer released any updated models that don't have this issue, do they all have this issue (at some point)? It's the only reason I would avoid it and look at different models. Is there an assembly date to watch for? lol I'd like to get one, but would rather avoid an issue like this, as I enjoy modding devices and don't want to run into warranty issues trying to have faulty tech replaced.
Any help/clarification would be greatly appreciated!

As far as we can tell they all have the same run of emmc memory, so in theory are all prone to it. Some protection can be found in the godmachine kernels and recovery, though. Mine hasn't bricked a second time since using a modified version of his kernels.

Thanks for the quick response! I've done some searching but can't seem to find any info on godmachine's recovery (unless I mistakenly overlooked it)? I can find his kernel (v2.0) and it appears to be installed via TWRP (which is fine).
This leaves me to assume that after unlocking the bootloader via the A200 replacement, I should just install TWRP, then flash godmachines kernel? (all this of course, after doing the ICS upgrade out of the box).
This is what I told a friend of mine who was thinking of getting one:
Depending on how much credit you are using, I would not spend more than $120 total for an A100 with all the new 7" tablets coming out with xmas and black friday on the way. I highly doubt you will get any more updates from acer with the new tablets they are releasing.
Pro:
Tegra2 chipset is great. ICS/JB runs really well. HDMI out works so this tablet acts as my portable media player (netflix, hulu, streaming from nas) to keep the kids busy. Games run well.
Con:
Emmc issue, bad viewing angle (even if it is only one really bad angle, the others are not so great either), low resolution, SOD, bad battery time (at least it charges really fast though), and worst of all, the touch screen issues. There are just some spots on the tablet that it takes 3-4 tries to work. build.prop also needs to be changed to show A500 for some games to be available.
As for development here on xda (with respect to pio_masaki and his private works) its safe to say that its pretty much dead. Good news is that the CM10 we have works almost flawlessly and Flexreaper rom is as solid as it gets.
Thanks for the feedback. I think, for now, I'll wait till the holidays arrive and see if other models come down in price. The Tegra 2 and dual core seemed a pretty decent combo for the price. The emmc issue is a complete turn-off, and was an absolute downer to read! But there is some possible hope for that with godmachines kernel.
I haven't read into it enough to have discovered the touch screen issues you mentioned, that is also going in the turn-off section.
Maybe I'll see what happens price wise with the Nexus 7 in December.
Thanks for the quick replies and helpful info! I'm still tempted, but will hold off on a purchase for now.

I let all the OTA ICS updates install, then rooted, then unlocked the bootloader, then installed TWRP, I then
used TWRP to install CM10, Jelly Bean optimized Kernel for A100, and pio_masaki's Gapps all at the same time,
I hope the "disabled MMC_CAP_ERASE function" does the job. :fingers-crossed:

Hello eh!
I just purchased the "Virgin mobile" Samsung Galaxy Ace IIx GT-S7560m to replace my faulty HTC EVO 3D (unlocked not rooted)
phone. I know I know it is a downgrade however, for what I need it for it is fine. Except.... for... ONE..... MAJOR...... PROBLEM!!!
I cannot move any apps to the SDCARD?? I have tired an adb method on another site (message me I guess to get URL) to no avail (its dated I know) . I have searched and looked around however I am confused at what tutorial I should follow and use? I decided to post and ask the knowledgeable beings here. If I can root this phone perfect!!! If not is there any information anyone can give me in regards to this problem.
*update*
Playing with it more and reading the specs on Virgins Canadian website
the unit has "Enhanced Memory: 4GB ROM + 6Gb RAM"?????
I have a 16GB SD card in and that is just being used for my music currently
as I cannot directly copy anything to it..... It seems this unit is really "locked down"
is this "virtual" memory? I am starting to think the unit has no real HARDWARE ram
just a page file type ram, like using a usb stick for ready boost. Also I cannot install
anything unless its on play store.... thinking I may have to return it?
Anyone want to take a stab at this one?
Thanks in advance

The same error goes for widgets.
Yeah this phone has better hardware than i8160, do you happen to know it's chipset?
As for root method, it seems not so many people own this phone right now. Maybe its possible to make the kernel support CWM as i have read somewhere that there's a guide to do so, haven't tried though.

Hiya.
I am still trying to root this thing without much success - Partly because I was waiting for somebody else to do it this way first - I think part of the problem is that I have found no way to backup the stock GT-S7560M firmware so if I did screw it up I'd be somewhat stuck. There seemed to be an indication that a recovery mode boot (vol-down, home, power) would allow this and a clear cache partition (which is what I really wanted to do originally anyway!) but I can never get that to work.
I guess I will wait a couple of days to discover if you have any disasters, and then try it your way - Any pointers to a nice simple tutorial and fileset?
Thanks.

Nope! Same problem here...rooted using SuperSU, flashed CWM 5.0, all seems OK but I've got that annoying triangle showing at every reboot. It's really weird though, when I tried running Triangle Away, it didn't even tried installing the supporting software (as it did on my Note II and S3) and it returned an error right away saying "Could not locate the hidden partition. Are you running ICS?"
On the other hand I would normally just re-initiate the phone through Kies to return to the stock firmware but it seems Samsung didn't bother releasing it yet - not available in Sammobile or anywhere else.

You must have already crammed your phone with "STUFF" or something else is wrong. Installed both Antutu and Velamo without any problems
Antutu - 4044 (although Antutu is less and less trusting)
Velamo - 302
In both cases the GT-S7560M was on the very bottom of the list BUT as always, take those results with a big grain of salt. I did so even in the case of the Note II, shown at the other end of the spectrum - the top. In the end, benchmarks truly mean NOTHING for what one may experience in day to day usage.
For a brand new, $200 phone I believe the GT-S7560M delivers in every aspect.
I think a lot of the space problem is that linking things to the sdcard is just carrying on filling the same memory as it would, had it been on internal memory anyway - The external sdcard (and nicely, I noticed today that it does work with 64gb ones) is mounted as /mnt/extSdCard and not /mnt/sdcard so everything tends to go horribly wrong, and even rooted I haven't yet found an app that gives me a work around to this. Sensibly it seems I should be able to pop some post-boot links in there to fix things, or symlinks from /mnt/sdcard/X -> /mnt/extSdCard/X but this doesn't seem like I should be having to bother to work around some perverse change they have made anyway.
I am from a Sony background, incidentally, so why they are doing this is utterly beyond me.
As for the $200 phone - Actually, Future Shop paid me $100 to take mine away

Would this keep root though? I seemed to remember in the OTA Rootkeeper notes, there was something about it not keeping root after a Kies update. Mind you I have never even loaded Kies, so I don't have a clue what I am on about in this respect really - I just figured the Rootkeeper people may do.
Anyway if you do ever work out a way around the annoying triangle, do share; though I think I have given up all hopes of any warranty exchanges on this now anyway.

Coming from the Note 2 and before the S3, the extSdCard format doesn't surprise me at all. When I transitioned from the S2 to the S3 I was really pissed for that exact reason BUT regardless, you still shouldn't have that issue with not being able to install Antutu or other large software. Not only that I haven't had any problems with Antutu but I have just finished installing TomTom and it runs nice and smoothly.

I guess it's one of the two: you either went with a long term contract OR you had a gun pointed at the guy from Future Shop. When I said $200, I was talking about us, non-robbers, normal citizens, who would be buying the phone outright - because we already have another 3 new phones at home, and therefore there is no such thing as a hardware upgrade available .

I've done it many times. As long as Kies allows initiation (Tools > Firmware Upgrade and Initiation) you'll certainly get rid of any custom binaries, including root and recovery. I would do a factory reset before the initiation anyway. In other words, YES, you'll loose the root BUT I guess that's why you would go that route.

But anyway, there is someone working on the sdcard thing over on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786014 so that thread is worth a look. I am still on a stock firmware so as yet it's no good for me - But it may be for you.

Nope! No firearms involved! They are just desperate to push Koodo's new plans at the moment. They have some pretty good Canada Wide ones, although as long as you aren't going to use lots of voice it's fine to stick with the $30 a month one. The phone costs $150 which goes on the tab but they gave me $100 back at futureshop - So technically it'd only ever cost me $50 to get out of my contract at any time - Nothing long term. I looked for a catch, I couldn't find one - And it's not Rogers!
And now before we get sulked at for not talking about technical stuff, I shall get back on topic...

Aaah that's good to know if I ever need to return it for anything! Although most of my phones get dropped in the sea/rivers/off-cliffs well before they are ever allowed to break software wise (hence my battles with the Motorola Defy and the Sony Xperia Active).
Hi I'm trying to root my KF2. What I really want to do is to install some emulators on it. I plan on getting a custom kernel, rom, etc. for it but don't know which one to use.
I'm looking for something that's lightweight, doesn't consume too much RAM or internal memory.
Sooo.... any suggestions?
Also just FYI, I don't have the factory USB cable. I'm using a third party one, not sure if that matters.
-Thanks
Read the sticky
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228539
Also.. No idea what you mean by "3rd party" cable. A factory cable is a factory cable no matter the source. Not to be confused with a NORMAL usb cable.
There aren't that many roms to choose from, but i recommend reading EVERYTHING you can before doing anything. The KF2 isn't like other devices.

I'm using a Sony Ericsson cable, not the one that came with the Kindle, does that matter?

Again. Read the sticky or you WILL brick your device. Seriously. Many experienced users already have.
READ THE WHOLE THING. Question 19 in the sticky answers that.
Edit: really. Read it all. Skipping to the answer will only help you so much.

When you say the KF2 isn't like other devices, it really makes me regret getting a Kindle
Lol. Nothing to regret. The hardware is solid. The bootloader is locked down, is all. You just have to be more careful with this device than, for example, a sony xperia phone.
I love my kindle. It's really a great device.

I bought it on impulse, and with the intentions of rooting/modding it (easily) boy was I wrong.
Got it for $60 cash and a $20-30 item I no longer wanted, he was supposed to include the Kindle USB cord but couldn't find it and gave me a Motorola phone charger instead -.-
He's a pretty close friend, he told me he'd give it to me once he finds it, but that may be awhile...
Anyway, a little off subject there...
I read the ENTIRE sticky. Learned a few things but overall not too much.
Is there an idiots guide to rooting/modding this thing? I don't want to screw up, looks like people are bricking these things permanently & I don't want to fall victim of that.
Any advice or tutorials would be awesome.
Thanks.
A fast boot or a factory cable is a cable that has pins shorted in it to force the kindle into a sort of download more that comes without an ui..
These have to bee special bought, they don't come with the kindle.
You don't have to have one but if you goof you'll most likely need it
For rooting it's pretty easy I just did one using a thread a few threads below this one you'll see my name thanking the guy who supplied the link

I'm not allowed to answer your question posted in the "[Root][Working 10.2.4]" thread, hence posting here.
Before you continue with rooting, you may want to make sure your adb drivers are correctly installed.
Here's how you can do that:
- Abort the "RootQemu.bat" batch file
- At the command prompt (assuming the directory you copied the QemuRoot file to is your current directory) enter "adb devices"
- If not already running, the adb daemon needs to be started first, hence it will most probably respond with
"* daemon not running. starting it now *"
"* daemon started successfully *"
- Once the daemon is started, adb will try to connect to your devices via the adb drivers, which you need to have installed in a first step.
- If the drivers are properly installed and adb can connect to your device, above-mentioned command should return something similar as
"1234567880 device"
- If you are only getting "List of devices attached", then the adb drivers are not or not correctly installed
In this case you will need to go back to reading some more, get the drivers and/or learn how to properly install them.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
Good news everyone (not a futurama pun)
I have successfully rooted & installed Google Play on my KF2!
Is there an easy way to change the launcher or ROM & move things from my internal memory to the cloud? Like for example I got a few things from the Google Play store and they go straight to my device, while other apps go to the cloud.
EDIT: How come my Kindle doesn't show up in My Computer when I connect it to my PC?
Thanks for the help so far.

Kindlefree is an app that can help get you started on the Amazon ROM. Just make sure you are on a KF2 before flashing anything. Easiest way to tell is by the software version.
Anything 10. Will be a KF2.

has anybody asked the dev of safestrap, or even tried it out yet? the locked bootloader is the next big problem, i assume. and as far as i get it the "fire os" is the same on "fire"-devices.

JCASE demonstrated booting unsigned code from USB... so we dont NEED to unlock the bootloader although it would be nice.
What we really need is a custom recovery and a way to boot it.. perhaps JCASE will chime in now that the root is out..
last i saw his signature says he is away for an undetermined amount of time :crying:

lol his sig has said that for an undetermined amount of time
May be we can write custom recovery using dd an then boot it?
I would think anyone that is willing to test unknown methods either has money to burn or a hardware flasher.
Just checked safestrap, no luck.
May be we can port loki. Platform looks similar for me, but offsets is different.

Looks like a few people have been looking into this, but haven't seen much activity recently. Just chiming in to see if there have been any advances on this front? Either progress, or a determination that it's too difficult at this point?

So I was thinking about 2nd-init and getting SafeStrap working. I need to keep looking and figure out the best place to start the 2nd-init.

Thanks for answering Happy to hear that people are still trying this. I'm wondering, once Android TV is released, the hardware on this device seems to be pretty powerful and it might be a great experience, if we can figure out how to get it on there.
Good luck, rbox! And thx for the xposed mods
Just be aware that the first thing that will stop working with an unlocked bootloader will be Netflix HD. I don't have Prime so can't comment on that.
You will be limited to 720x480 resolution - 1750kbps.

I was able to find the best spot to do the 2nd init, and it seemed to be working, but unfortunately I'm having some problems getting TWRP to actually display even though I'm doing exactly the same thing I did with clockwork. Luckily it's a long weekend, so I should have some time to debug it.

Summer only has a couple of weeks left... I also hope we can crack the bootloafer or at least get boot strap or something similar working, but I am not going to hold my breath. I AM very happy with how well it is working though, especially as an xbmc/kodi box! Hope we can get the mic button working in kodi.
