has anybody asked the dev of safestrap, or even tried it out yet? the locked bootloader is the next big problem, i assume. and as far as i get it the "fire os" is the same on "fire"-devices.

JCASE demonstrated booting unsigned code from USB... so we dont NEED to unlock the bootloader although it would be nice.
What we really need is a custom recovery and a way to boot it.. perhaps JCASE will chime in now that the root is out..

May be we can write custom recovery using dd an then boot it?
I would think anyone that is willing to test unknown methods either has money to burn or a hardware flasher.
Just checked safestrap, no luck.
May be we can port loki. Platform looks similar for me, but offsets is different.

Looks like a few people have been looking into this, but haven't seen much activity recently. Just chiming in to see if there have been any advances on this front? Either progress, or a determination that it's too difficult at this point?

Thanks for answering Happy to hear that people are still trying this. I'm wondering, once Android TV is released, the hardware on this device seems to be pretty powerful and it might be a great experience, if we can figure out how to get it on there.
Good luck, rbox! And thx for the xposed mods
Just be aware that the first thing that will stop working with an unlocked bootloader will be Netflix HD. I don't have Prime so can't comment on that.
You will be limited to 720x480 resolution - 1750kbps.

I was able to find the best spot to do the 2nd init, and it seemed to be working, but unfortunately I'm having some problems getting TWRP to actually display even though I'm doing exactly the same thing I did with clockwork. Luckily it's a long weekend, so I should have some time to debug it.

Summer only has a couple of weeks left... I also hope we can crack the bootloafer or at least get boot strap or something similar working, but I am not going to hold my breath. I AM very happy with how well it is working though, especially as an xbmc/kodi box! Hope we can get the mic button working in kodi.

No unfortunately it doesn't. Screenshots i'm working on (it saves them all in PNG which the site won't recognize).
An overclock kernel is being worked on, the base of this is the standard kernel. We do have one working but it's not ready for release yet.
So they will be up soon.
make sure he has the custom recovery menu. It won't flash properly without it. We worked a few days on that as well.

If you're using Shoot Me, you can set the prefs to save as jpg.
By custom recovery, do you mean the one in the stickied post or CWM?
Biggest thing is the speed of the default device, I'll keep an eye here and get serious when the OC kernel is ready.... I think I'll need a pretty compelling argument to get him to root. Thank you for all your hard work in this area.

Just curious since I didn't see any screenshots (he hasn't given me the nod yet, either) What kind of overclocks have you gotten and how is your battery life?
EDIT: Nevermind, I just saw it on the blog (read past it at first). 850 MHz? That's almost a 50% OC! The battery life at that speed question still remains. Also, don't see the FAQ link, or is it not up yet? Thanks a bundle. I've gotten fairly proficient with things on my Inspire, but the Optimus looks to be a slightly different monster.

Is there anyone who has made any headway in their research on cracking or unlocking the bootloader? My short research confirms that it is using a 256-bit encryption algorithm, but I've not identified the algorithm used, nor do I think it would matter, as I really have no intention of doing a cryptanalysis on something that strong and I doubt anyone else would, either. Out of curiousity, though: anyone know offhand?
I'm curious to know what methods you guys are attempting to employ and what, if any, other research has already been done. I'd like to help, where I can.
**** if i knew more about it id take a crack at it but unfortunately i lack the skills required. Guess its time to learn huh.

Vache and I worked on it yesterday for about 6 hours. We didn't get it cracked yet but we are making progress. Don't bother with trying to get your SBK (secure boot key) because A: you won't be able to crack the encryption & B: we have a "secret" way to extract it from the tablet (shhhhh!) Go for it, the Developers of the XDA community don't owe you anything and if this is how you are going to help (by complaining) then you are better off selling this wonderful device. Patience is a key thing with this device, just like the atrix its just a matter of time.

Yes, different bootloader, due to both having different versions of hc. The A100 is newer, has newer programming, and leaves us with a different place to start. I myself have tried putting every single script of my A100 into an emulator on my PC to attempt to "reverse engineer" the bootloader to try to decrypt it, but that was unsuccessful for many reasons.
ummmmm............ could you repeat that?
Rather new to androids but I would consider myself a Linux guru. I just picked up an A100 on an open box sale and I would like to get involved in cracking the bootloader on this device. I am a professional low level developer and I have contributed to the development of several major open source projects including Gentoo and Fedora.
I also own a new Samsung Nexus S. Whose working on this now? Is there anything you need help with?

That's the route Im going as well, so far I've compiled 2nd-init and it runs, but it crashes right after initalizing the memory and reboots the tablet (I dont think I have the correct memory address of init for the hook to work properly so it reboots the device). I've also tried log's kexec hack and I dont think it works. Asks for a kernel to load, which I dont have but, I dont think our current kernel supports kexec, so a module would have to be compiled for it. Im no kernel developer (I understand how they work, and how to mod an existing one, but building onne from scratch not so much). With kexec, it requires a special kernel the starts up where your current kernel resides in memory, so it would be harder to get working than 2nd-init.

You can't really brute force this kind of thing, we need to use some sort of exploit, would take millions of years or something like that.

I guess the phone has S-off? I'm not really very good with any of this stuff, if anyone can help me get back to stock so I can get OTA's that'd be great. I tried doing all the research I could but have gotten nowhere. The phone is an unlocked model, I was told it's a developers edition but IDK how to tell the difference. There is no carrier branding so I'm assuming he didn't lie, and that the phone actually is unlocked. If anyone can help it'd be very greatly appreciated, I planned to use this phone as my main phone but I cant use it on almost 3 year old software.

One way would be to patch the boot.img with magisk but since we don't have recovery files that won't be possible for now. Is there any other method?

No idea where to go with rooting but since all Razer phones are bootloader unlockable they seem ok with it to the point that they're letting us decide what to do with our phones.
They've made it clear that unlocking the bootloader and/or rooting/installing recovery will void warranty and will leave you entirely on your own as far as repairs go at that point.
Unless you're using Three Rescue and tell them you have no idea what happened and can't really say anything except;
"Well.... It's just.... Not working. I don't know why. It ran out of battery and since then I can't turn it on no matter what I do. Charging makes no difference."

Note that in the US it's technically illegal for them to deny warranty for anything software related unless they prove that the unlocking of the bootloader/rooting/etc is what caused the failure in the first place.

Considering the language barrier & /or translation, whether literal or, in real meaningful context, is hard to glean from that answer.
Could be a canned response, or, their intentions of not planning to accommodate, or, something else (not now, but, at a later date).

Not looking to good for development so far. I'm loving this phone a lot but without root and custom roms I really have no use for it. I sold my Note 8 because it was so locked down and I couldn't do what I wanted with the device. Now this one isn't locked down as much but it looks like Razer is lacking in releasing the required images needed for root and custom recovery (TWRP). They may or may not release it with time but it will be after the return period by then. So now I'm debating if I should return it and go with the Oneplus 5T which has amazing development.
Anyone else want to try contacting them? Maybe we can get something going if they see the user want it.

Yes the essential phone at its current price is looking like a hell of a deal. With this phone I wouldn't mind having at least the stock rom rooted but we don't even have that. I'm willing to wait if there was at least some hope. I thought I saw some where we may even be covered with an extended holiday return window. Do you know anything about that? If that's the case ill try to run it as close as I can to the return dead line.
I opened up a poll on the Razer forums to see if most users are even interested in root.
I know a lot of user's here on xda that can't have a device without root. I'm interested to see what the response would be of non xda user regarding root.

I did that and I also didn't get no options for installing manually I don't have that option in the phone I also call the place it cuz when you try to put it in bootloader it says my device is still locked I don't know how to do that I tried calling a place they said it was unlocked and it's still locked so I heard the snapdragons kind of a pain in the ass anyway

Oh it's actually never been there and here's a picture right here actually when I actually try to run it in bootloader mode and I've tried to unlock the device with that company and they said it was but it's still locked
Oh yeah, I know how to resolve that. Connect the device using a USB cable to your PC. Make sure the phone is off. Then hold all buttons on your phone until you get a blue warning screen. From here, follow the on-screen instructions to unlock the bootloader. From THEN, the lock is fully disabled.
