Caution: DO NOT try this on variants except for LS998 and VS996 unless you know deeply how the partitions work in LG systems.
Basic crossflashing method: Instead of choosing "UPGRADE" In the "process" menu, choose "PARTITION DL",then click "select all", confirm and there you go.
If running into problems in starting the phone, perform a data reset.
Cases: In China, numerous cases of LS998/VS996 successfully flashing US998 or AS998 or H933 and working fine have been confirmed, since second-hand phone dealers crossflash as a common practice for certain reasons. And LTE band 1 and 5 which are not active on LS998/VS996 before flashing are activated in the flashed US998 (the so-called Frankenstein) system. Dual sim also CAN BE recognized on VS996 with flashed H930DS system coz the circuit system seems to be identical among all the variants of V30. However with the baseband difference network is not working.

Sorry for the uneducated questions:
1. This will only work if the bootloader is already unlocked, correct?
2. You mention certain LTE bands become active, but later you say the network is not active due to baseband differences. Can you please clarify what that means for me and other low-tech users?
Thanks for your efforts!

1. It does not require an unlocked BL;
2. Only flashing H930DS on VS996(possibly LS998 as well) results in network problems.

That's interesting! So with this process, I can put an official LG ROM on my H933, with the end result of converting it to a different variant of the V30?
The H933 has not been provided with a bootloader unlock solution by LG, but some other V30 variants have. I am wondering if I could use this process to flash my device from H933 to a variant which has BL unlock available and then go ahead with that. Has that already been ruled out or confirmed possible?
Thanks again

Yes you can convert it, with it seems full functionality. EXCEPT...
No, to the bootloader unlock -- at least on LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list website. That's eligible through IMEI range and they double check Device ID.
LG Developer Bootloader Unlock website then sends you a file you flash that is only good for that particular phone. Basically a custom code to unlock the bootloader with full flash commands available.
Think of it like the US998 or the H930G. Some are eligible for bootloader unlock, like the open market LG US998 or the Italian H939G. But there's plenty out they which are NOT eligible for bootloader unlock, like the U.S.Cellular model US998 or the Israeli H939G.
Just because you have that model doesn't mean LG will unlock the bootloader.

Whatever Frankenstein you change your original phone into, the BL CAN NOT be unlocked unless your IMEI and device id are effective to be used on LG bootloader unlocking page.
Right, that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification gents

So... Does this actually mean it is finally possible to cross-flash one model number into another? I am more than tempted to try and flash my H933 to an H932. I don't really want to mess with my V30+ H932 though but the H933 I don't mind mucking up.

yes you can do it as you wish.
I flashed my US998 V30+ to the Verizon VS996. It gave me Oreo. Plus a working Verizon voicemail. My wife is no longer cursing me out for missing her voicemails.
I haven't tried going back yet, but I might if LG unlocks the V30+ bootloader.
Not holding my breath.

Does that essentially mean that we all could get root on all other models if the H932 is ever rooted?
This i kind of aimed at Chazz or anyone that understands a bit more in-depth what is contained in the unlock file LG sends out to those on the official unlock list. I'm guessing that the key is IMEI specific. Based on that. Is there some way to make one of those files generic or for some way for a user to take one of those files and change the information in it to the specific IMEI of their device? Before anyone asks. Changing your devices IMEI is a taboo subject here and also more than likely would need root. Chazz has multiple devices. I am wondering if he has tried his unlock bin on his V30+ or tried any methods to alter the bin to work with his V30+.

The H815T is Not T-Mobile. The H815T are sold in Turkey and Hong Kong. It's mostly the same as the H815 variant.
If you flash an H815 firmware on your device if it's a H811 you'll permanently brick your device.

LG website states 815T is a T-Mobile phone.
It is possible the manual just has that model number listed and shipped with my 811 device.
How do I really check what version I have?
And why would they state 815T is a T-Mobile phone on their website?

I see no where on LGs website on the H815T page stating it's T-Mobile. If it does it's a glitch. It's 100% not a T-Mobile USA device.
Manuals may not matter as a G4 is a G4 operation wise.
What do you mean check which version you have? If it's a H811 then it's a T-Mobile device. T-Mobile only has 1 model for the G4.
Where did you buy your phone? If used/referb/second hand that might explain the manual mismatch.

Bought it through Rogers. Apparently rogers sells or sold h812
Box imei and serial number match to phone.
Must be manual...manual is a manual.
But why would Rogers be selling a T-Mobile phone.....when they have their own brand?
Anyway to check other than software?

It’s not that it’s not been tried. It cannot be done. If it is you’ll 1. Result in a brick or 2. It won’t work and hope that you’ll be able to flash it back.
The modems in those phones are completely different. Along with the T-Mobile model having antirollback which makes it impossible

Ok well I have the H812 with antirollback value 0. once steadfasterx is fully complete his unofficial bootloader unlock, my plan is to unlock bootloader, install TWRP, then until custom roms for this variant comes out, I plan on flashing other carrier firmwares.... and it seems H815 has better updates, so probably going to flash that one...
Also, can you kindly tell me what you mean by "modem" in the phone? is it the thing that deals with frequency bands?
If it softbricks, I can always re-flash my stock firmware right? What are the chances of a hardbrick?

H812 won’t be as locked down as the H811 is. But flashing wrong model firmware is a no no. Flashing custom roms built on another firmware may not work correctly but won’t be as harmful as flashing stock firmware which will 99% won’t work and or will cause a hard brick.

Ok. Thank you for all your time and help. have a good day.
The plight has been answered! We have a solution! Thread has been locked, as we now have a solution! Please visit @ChazzMatt 's posts in this thread for a full description, and link, to the method.
---
G'day everyone!
Much like @mr turtle droid , I've decided to create this sister thread to keep us all informed of the progress towards Root, TWRP, and ROM's for the CARRIER UNLOCKED LG V30+ variant.
At this point in time (15:50, 21st Feb 2018), LG HAVEN'T placed this model on their Unlock list, on the LG Dev website. The LG Models that ARE there are the H930 and the H930G for the Euro market. I've emailed LG Australia about this, and am still waiting on a response, but doubtful I'll get a helpful one. I've also asked on the LGDeveloper twitter page, and received a stock standard response: "We are sorry that we can't be of much help. If there are any changes to the supported devices, we will let you know via our website".
Not being a dev myself, I don't know if any fastboot commands work or not, so if someone can get us going with potential methods, that'd be sweet.
I have a link for the Firmware *.kdz downloads, for what it's worth. Link is found HERE.
If anyone has any ideas, please share them. The more that we know, the closer we get to unleashing the full potential of this great phone.
Also, if someone could explain why exactly LG doesn't unlock all the different models of their flagship, or at least give an ETA for the unbranded one's, that'd be sweet. Is it because of licences, or patents or something? Or is because it's a Dual SIM model? Curious more than anything.
It just seems nuts to me that the V30+ that I bought from JB Hi-Fi wouldn't be on the unlock list, if it's an unbranded / noncarrier variant.
Once again, this is for the carrier UNLOCKED variant, H930DS.
If the bootloader is unlocked on the H930DS then this thread might be a step in the right direction for route

Hi, reports on there suggest that only one sim is working after using that method.
Seems like flashing back some partitions from another ds model with lgup could be the solution.
I have been tempted to buy this phone only put off by no root.

Hi, I have only had mine for 3 days so haven't tried yet
I think as a H930 single sim unlocked bootloader is loaded, you will only see 1 sim.
Dont quote me on that as I am still reading up
Any experts who can answer?
Both SIMs work for H930DS. Just flash unlock bin and TWRP as described in WTF thread. Need to mention that I've had official H930DS Oreo update prior to attempting this.
Hi, well thats the first time I have seen that stated.
There are no specific instructions for the DS.
Are the one's with only 1 sim just flashing a single sim rom and keeping it for the bands or something?
I have V10e-AME-XX and no Oreo update is showing.
So do I
LGUP to convert to open single sim H930
Adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash unlock new_unlock.bin
Install Twrp
Then how to get dual sim rom?

I wouldn't flash single sim rom on a dual sim device if I was you. You need to flash Oreo dual sim firmware and then everything is straight forward. Bootloader unlock process as well as flashing TWRP won't effect any fuctionalty and procedure is simple.

Thank you. So you flashed the H930 Oreo KDZ. Just like the instructions say in the WTF thread.
To me, the only way for H939DS users to do this is to flash H9390 and run the command. One India H930DS user says that is what he has done and he has BOTH SIMS. Now you have confirmed it. That's two H930DS users who have bootloader unlocked and rooted, just like I said they could do -- and they both retained dual SIM functionality. Every V30/V30+ can be bootloader unlocked and rooted, except for the T-mobile H932.
Even @crubbish seems to infer that but he contradicted himself -- saying he didn't flash the H930 firmware, which I'm pretty sure HE HAD to -- which is frustrating.

No, the H930 variants (which include the HD30DS) do NOT need to downgrade to Nougat.
You just need to figure out how to install and use the LGUP.

I wouldn't flash single sim rom on a dual sim device if I was you. You need to flash Oreo dual sim firmware and then everything is straight forward. Bootloader unlock process as well as flashing TWRP won't effect any fuctionalty and procedure is simple.

@crubbish, I'm sorry but you seem to be contradicting yourself. Please clarify. You either used the WTF instructions or you didn't.
I WROTE the instructions for the WTF thread and they clearly say all H930 variants -- which included the H930DS -- needs to flash the H930 Oreo KDZ to get the fastboot flash commands. So, unless you are saying you somehow managed to enable those commands some other way (and H932 T-mobile users would be all ears for that!), then you did indeed flash the H930 Oreo KDZ, did you not?
Two other H930DS users -- at least one from India -- have used the WTF method, of course flashing the HD30 Oreo KDZ -- and they are bootloader unlocked, have TWRP custom recovery, rooted, and have dual SIM functionality.
Unless you have figured out some other way, THAT is also exactly what you did.

then adb reboot bootloader is ok,
I get the fastboot screen but then no connection from fastboot

If you've connected the phone to a USB3 port, try a USB2 port instead. That usually works.
Also, if you're not using the cable that came with the phone, try that as well.

No, you need a newer DLL for LGUP which can be found in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/lgup-oreo-dll-file-v30-t3779441
Put it in the C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP\model\common (create the "common" folder if it's not present). Start LGUP WITHOUT Uppercut.

Thank you.
Besides trying a different USB port or different cable, also try to enter download mode manually (power off completely, then hold volume up button while plugging in USB cable), THEN open LGUP to make it recognize your phone.
Also, try a different computer if none of those suggestions work.

I've had Oreo OTA flashed on my H930DS after which I've followed WTF procedure without flashing any other firmware. Sorry if I wasn't clear on this.
It looks to me that as long as you're on official Oreo firmware you can appy unlock.bin straight away, no need to pre-flash any other firmware. Also someone has reported on losing dual sim functionality after flashing plain H930 firmware, that's why I think it's safer to flash specific dual sim rom for dual sim devices.
I'm guessing probably not but I pray that I'm wrong.

As of right now. No public root instructions or installs. LG recently released the unlocked variant bootloader unlock but not for the Tmobile version yet. Once and if that comes out, root will soon follow. I've read about some exploits which hopefully someone can test and develop on it. So fingers crossed it'll be soon but as of right now nope.
Anything ever happen with this? I'm on t-mobile variant and hoping for root sooner or later.

Can you go and try unlocking the bootloader? If you can I can try compiling a boot image from the LG open source and apply root to it.
There is absolutely no difference between the source code of the international version and the T-Mobile one in terms of the Kernel. That could mean that (maybe) it's possible to boot the international version of the boot image on a T-Mobile one however I'm still not sure if it's possible to unlock one and maybe try. If anyone is willing to try unlocking it please share a pic of the phone in bootloader mode.
My phone allows for unlock_critical but not regular unlock. Unlock_critical allows bootloader flashing. And when you unlock_critical it wipes your phone like a normal unlock would. I'm wondering if the could be an in for a full unlock??
As far as I know the only place where we can get the bootloader is from the kdz firmware but there is still no tool that can extract our version.
EDIT: try using kngoroot. It claims that it can root Android 8 devices. If you succeed you can then switch to magisk.
Tried previously and no luck sadly.

If you really want to get root you can try using LGUP with the international kdz file but it has a chance to break the phone (but as far as I know there is no different in the kernel of the T-Mobile and the international version). In THEORY if something bad happens after flashing the phone it should boot directly to download mode. If not just cross your fingers and hold the volume up button. Still this is very risky and it has a chance to completely break the phone.
Yeah I may give it a shot once I have all the appropriate files and such. I'm not too worried about bricking it, it's insured and I have 2 Pixel 2 XLs as back up phones lol

Nothing like Kingroot or Kingo root or any other alleged "magical" 1-click solution is ever going to work on newer LG smartphones.
We have root for ALL the LG V30/V30+/V30S on the planet due to exploits we found and wrote guides for.
Just yesterday a dev finally got root for T-mobile H932, so now ALL V30 and variants have root. (Different process for H932).
ROOT FOR T-MOBILE H932 V30/V30+
ROOT FOR ALL OTHER V30/V30+/V30S
Maybe someone can try unlocking it using the exploit?

Respected active V30 user, used to read all of your XDA posts on the amazing LG V30, been wondering the previous LG flagships upto LG G6 USA unlocked (US997) have unlocked bootloader, where as LG V30 (US998) & LG G7 (G710ULM) didn't get supported by LG? Are they officially stopped getting bootloader unlock except the EU variants? Do we hope something (custom kernel, ROMS etc) for them? Been waiting for my beast G710ULM! I hope some exploit like WTF method happens to the LG G7.

Yeah, it's frustrating the LG has apparently stopped giving official bootloader unlock (with fastboot flash commands) to North America variants.
We got "open market" US998 v30 official bootloader unlock code by hacking the website... LG had put in the IMEI before never announcing official recognition, but we could not get that trick to work with the open market US9988 30+, even though Europe had both v30 in v30+ models officially recognized.
So one of my us998 phones did have semi-official bootloader unlock from LG (available but never officially announced), but the others (V30+) luckily have access to WTF. I also bought two LS998 v30 plus off eBay and quickly converted those two US998 V30+ for bootloader unlock and root.
@runningnak3d is going to start working on the G7. His process is more complicated than the WTF method but it works. I'm not saying it would definitely work on the G7 but that's one of his next projects.

I hope LG is reading XDA, also they even set up "Software Update Center" to speed up updates, or are they busy with the "hyped" LG V40?
To make the H932 root happen, a user loaned me their phone. Unfortunately, it looks like the same thing is going to have to happen with the G7. I looked on eBay and thought about buying one to do the dev work, but even ones that have a bad IMEI, or cracked (but usable) screen are still $600+ and I am not going to spend that to root a phone that I don't own -- sorry

AT&T LG G8 - Want to flash stock firmware, possible? Trying to use it on Google FI and it seems hotpot and many other features aren't working. Phione is paid in full and unlocked. Factory firmware currently.
I want to flash my phone
So you're trying to flash stock on top of stock?
The request is to see if you can flash a bare LG unlocked ROM that comes with factory unlocked phones onto a phone that came with a stock AT&T ROM. The Att phone has now been carrier unlocked, is used on a different network, so the Att specific apps that replaced stock apps no longer work.
I was also wondering if I could do this with my Tmobile G8; unlock the phone, then flash the unlocked LG OS instead of the Tmobile version. My goal is debloat, and to be able to have the original Android hotspot app. Not to mention get rid of that terrible pink, loud, annoying carrier startup splash.
Also, I wonder if security updates would come faster when strait from LG instead of the carrier.

Has anyone figured out any method that actually works for just flashing firmware to the g8?
Unlike Samsung phones where you can flash other firmwares via ODIN I don't think this phone has that ability. If you got to the ROM/Development section there are threads where people posted firmwares but no instructions on how to flash.

We can actually cross flash, but we need a modified lg dll to fool lgup into letting us flash any firmware.
I have tried just about everything I can think of to get this thing to flash. I saw some people using lgup v1.15 via the command line but that didn't work either.

Hello,
I've tried to flash another firmware on an AT&T LM-G820UM10i with LGUP and a firmware found on lg-firmware.
The LGUP restarted the phone in Firmware update mode, then on LGUP, I got an error
Error 0x5319, Not allow to change the device.(ATT_US->OPEN_CA)
So I've unplugged and reboot the phone. Still working.

Because the G8 and all newer LG phones have security measures to prevent cross flashing.
Many bloatware apps can be Disabled in App Info Settings. The rest can be removed with ADB shell "pm uninstall". Google it.
It's best to never ever buy carrier devices. There's a reason they're the ones sold with a discount :cyclops:

Hi, I've got a similar issue. US991 bought new 2017 from LG via newegg. Advertised unlocked, assumed that just meant carrier unlocked, which it is, but also has OEM unlock flag in developer options. LGMENU shows ARB=2 but SALT stable shows ARB=20 so won't flash USU. SALT develop mode shows ARB=2.
Do I USU from develop mode? Does this one need USU (have never tried to flash TWRP or root or anything. Any help/guidance is welcome. the MM LG pushed to it in 2017 doesn't have firmware support for VOLTE which i was hoping to get by flashing a new ROM since i have have no calling since the AT&T 3G shutdowm.

only H811 does NOT need UsU. The h815 can be unlocked as well but only when you have the unlock bin already as the LG website closed. so: yes you need UsU.
yes keep SALT on develop and flash UsU there. The good thing is that FAQ #1 applies to your device so you could even go back if something is not working as you want it.
Thanks for your help steadfasterX.
US991_UsU_unlock.zip in develop mode worked great.

however, i have a new issue. when i flashed US991_UsU_baseband_flash-in-twrp.zip my SIM is no longer recognized; mobile data can't be enabled, says connection not allowed so can't add an APN. LGMENU shows normal APNs (ATTPHONE, NEXTGENPHONE, etc are gone). has a couple prepay APNs listed that i don't recognize and can't edit thru LGMENU. SALT GPT is H811 which i thought was just for the ROMs. do i need to actually flash H811 basebands? or just flash one of your H811 ROMs like lineage 18.1? not sure how to fix this. again, any help/guidance is much appreciated.

well there are 2 problems here:
1. not many us991 users here so less user feedback
2. usually no one wants to stay stock so less user feedback
the main problem is that the baseband files are incompatible with your bootloader stack (hopefully its just that). a fix for that would be creating a new baseband flash file from your modem partition. pls provide it from your backup BEFORE using UsU and I can take a look
