G'day everyone!
Much like @mr turtle droid , I've decided to create this sister thread to keep us all informed of the progress towards Root, TWRP, and ROM's for the CARRIER UNLOCKED LG V30+ variant.
At this point in time (15:50, 21st Feb 2018), LG HAVEN'T placed this model on their Unlock list, on the LG Dev website. The LG Models that ARE there are the H930 and the H930G for the Euro market. I've emailed LG Australia about this, and am still waiting on a response, but doubtful I'll get a helpful one. I've also asked on the LGDeveloper twitter page, and received a stock standard response: "We are sorry that we can't be of much help. If there are any changes to the supported devices, we will let you know via our website".
Not being a dev myself, I don't know if any fastboot commands work or not, so if someone can get us going with potential methods, that'd be sweet.
I have a link for the Firmware *.kdz downloads, for what it's worth. Link is found HERE.
If anyone has any ideas, please share them. The more that we know, the closer we get to unleashing the full potential of this great phone.
Also, if someone could explain why exactly LG doesn't unlock all the different models of their flagship, or at least give an ETA for the unbranded one's, that'd be sweet. Is it because of licences, or patents or something? Or is because it's a Dual SIM model? Curious more than anything.
It just seems nuts to me that the V30+ that I bought from JB Hi-Fi wouldn't be on the unlock list, if it's an unbranded / noncarrier variant.
Once again, this is for the carrier UNLOCKED variant, H930DS.
If the bootloader is unlocked on the H930DS then this thread might be a step in the right direction for route

Hi, reports on there suggest that only one sim is working after using that method.
Seems like flashing back some partitions from another ds model with lgup could be the solution.
I have been tempted to buy this phone only put off by no root.

Is second sim not working at all, or is it possible to use it as a data connection only?
Hi, I have only had mine for 3 days so haven't tried yet
I think as a H930 single sim unlocked bootloader is loaded, you will only see 1 sim.
Dont quote me on that as I am still reading up
Any experts who can answer?
Both SIMs work for H930DS. Just flash unlock bin and TWRP as described in WTF thread. Need to mention that I've had official H930DS Oreo update prior to attempting this.
Hi, well thats the first time I have seen that stated.
There are no specific instructions for the DS.
Are the one's with only 1 sim just flashing a single sim rom and keeping it for the bands or something?
I have V10e-AME-XX and no Oreo update is showing.
So do I
LGUP to convert to open single sim H930
Adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash unlock new_unlock.bin
Install Twrp
Then how to get dual sim rom?

I wouldn't flash single sim rom on a dual sim device if I was you. You need to flash Oreo dual sim firmware and then everything is straight forward. Bootloader unlock process as well as flashing TWRP won't effect any fuctionalty and procedure is simple.

Is H930 eu 20d a dual sim rom then?
Otherwise what exactly is "Oreo dual sim firmware"

Thank you. So you flashed the H930 Oreo KDZ. Just like the instructions say in the WTF thread.
To me, the only way for H939DS users to do this is to flash H9390 and run the command. One India H930DS user says that is what he has done and he has BOTH SIMS. Now you have confirmed it. That's two H930DS users who have bootloader unlocked and rooted, just like I said they could do -- and they both retained dual SIM functionality. Every V30/V30+ can be bootloader unlocked and rooted, except for the T-mobile H932.
Even @crubbish seems to infer that but he contradicted himself -- saying he didn't flash the H930 firmware, which I'm pretty sure HE HAD to -- which is frustrating.

No, the H930 variants (which include the HD30DS) do NOT need to downgrade to Nougat.
You just need to figure out how to install and use the LGUP.

@crubbish, I'm sorry but you seem to be contradicting yourself. Please clarify. You either used the WTF instructions or you didn't.
I WROTE the instructions for the WTF thread and they clearly say all H930 variants -- which included the H930DS -- needs to flash the H930 Oreo KDZ to get the fastboot flash commands. So, unless you are saying you somehow managed to enable those commands some other way (and H932 T-mobile users would be all ears for that!), then you did indeed flash the H930 Oreo KDZ, did you not?
Two other H930DS users -- at least one from India -- have used the WTF method, of course flashing the HD30 Oreo KDZ -- and they are bootloader unlocked, have TWRP custom recovery, rooted, and have dual SIM functionality.
Unless you have figured out some other way, THAT is also exactly what you did.

If you've connected the phone to a USB3 port, try a USB2 port instead. That usually works.
Also, if you're not using the cable that came with the phone, try that as well.

No, you need a newer DLL for LGUP which can be found in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/lgup-oreo-dll-file-v30-t3779441
Put it in the C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP\model\common (create the "common" folder if it's not present). Start LGUP WITHOUT Uppercut.

Besides trying a different USB port or different cable, also try to enter download mode manually (power off completely, then hold volume up button while plugging in USB cable), THEN open LGUP to make it recognize your phone.
Also, try a different computer if none of those suggestions work.

I've had Oreo OTA flashed on my H930DS after which I've followed WTF procedure without flashing any other firmware. Sorry if I wasn't clear on this.
It looks to me that as long as you're on official Oreo firmware you can appy unlock.bin straight away, no need to pre-flash any other firmware. Also someone has reported on losing dual sim functionality after flashing plain H930 firmware, that's why I think it's safer to flash specific dual sim rom for dual sim devices.

Caution: DO NOT try this on variants except for LS998 and VS996 unless you know deeply how the partitions work in LG systems.
Basic crossflashing method: Instead of choosing "UPGRADE" In the "process" menu, choose "PARTITION DL",then click "select all", confirm and there you go.
If running into problems in starting the phone, perform a data reset.
Cases: In China, numerous cases of LS998/VS996 successfully flashing US998 or AS998 or H933 and working fine have been confirmed, since second-hand phone dealers crossflash as a common practice for certain reasons. And LTE band 1 and 5 which are not active on LS998/VS996 before flashing are activated in the flashed US998 (the so-called Frankenstein) system. Dual sim also CAN BE recognized on VS996 with flashed H930DS system coz the circuit system seems to be identical among all the variants of V30. However with the baseband difference network is not working.

Sorry for the uneducated questions:
1. This will only work if the bootloader is already unlocked, correct?
2. You mention certain LTE bands become active, but later you say the network is not active due to baseband differences. Can you please clarify what that means for me and other low-tech users?
Thanks for your efforts!

That's interesting! So with this process, I can put an official LG ROM on my H933, with the end result of converting it to a different variant of the V30?
The H933 has not been provided with a bootloader unlock solution by LG, but some other V30 variants have. I am wondering if I could use this process to flash my device from H933 to a variant which has BL unlock available and then go ahead with that. Has that already been ruled out or confirmed possible?

Yes you can convert it, with it seems full functionality. EXCEPT...
No, to the bootloader unlock -- at least on LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list website. That's eligible through IMEI range and they double check Device ID.
LG Developer Bootloader Unlock website then sends you a file you flash that is only good for that particular phone. Basically a custom code to unlock the bootloader with full flash commands available.
Think of it like the US998 or the H930G. Some are eligible for bootloader unlock, like the open market LG US998 or the Italian H939G. But there's plenty out they which are NOT eligible for bootloader unlock, like the U.S.Cellular model US998 or the Israeli H939G.
Just because you have that model doesn't mean LG will unlock the bootloader.

Whatever Frankenstein you change your original phone into, the BL CAN NOT be unlocked unless your IMEI and device id are effective to be used on LG bootloader unlocking page.

I flashed my US998 V30+ to the Verizon VS996. It gave me Oreo. Plus a working Verizon voicemail. My wife is no longer cursing me out for missing her voicemails.

Does that essentially mean that we all could get root on all other models if the H932 is ever rooted?
This i kind of aimed at Chazz or anyone that understands a bit more in-depth what is contained in the unlock file LG sends out to those on the official unlock list. I'm guessing that the key is IMEI specific. Based on that. Is there some way to make one of those files generic or for some way for a user to take one of those files and change the information in it to the specific IMEI of their device? Before anyone asks. Changing your devices IMEI is a taboo subject here and also more than likely would need root. Chazz has multiple devices. I am wondering if he has tried his unlock bin on his V30+ or tried any methods to alter the bin to work with his V30+.
As you have read in the FAQ sometimes when you send your phone away to be repaired (under warranty in my case) you may get your phone back where what is flashed on it does not match the actual hardware. In my case the motherboard was an H810 and the software claimed it was an H812, even SALT thought it was an H812.
Well the good news is just flash on what your motherboard says it is. In my case the H810 unlock and roms both work great. Everything except for the flashlight works but that is a known problem with the LineageOS 15.1 rom as of writing this. The phone has been in use for over a week with no freakouts, reboots, excessive battery drain, overheating or otherwise.
REMEMBER! caveat emptor, this worked for me and might not for you!
TL;DR you should disassemble your phone and make sure the hardware matches up to what you are using to root it with. And also make damn sure you carrier unlock it first before flashing on a custom rom. The custom roms will not carrier unlock your phone and in my case claim to be successful and fail silently.
One additional thing to note here, I do not know if this was incorrectly flashed by the tech or if putting on the H812 rom was intentional. I did not use the stock phone whatsoever so I do not know if all the hardware (calls/camera/flashlight/etc) even worked properly.
@steadfasterX per request.
Hi, I too have a frankenstein h810 device, but I only realized it after I unlocked flashed a custom rom and everything. I bricked the phone, but I'm using the sd card unbrick method to run the phone. With that said, you mentioned to use h810 files and everything should work fine. I've tried that, but with little success. Either there would be no sound or LTE or no video. I'm currently running h812 roms/modems and my lte does not work and my battery performance is less than stellar.
My question is, what are the current builds of the files are you using? Also, what can I do to unlock my phone? I got the code, but it does not work and you mentioned that its best to unlock the phone before installing custom roms.
One last tidbit, when I go into download mode and try to use LGUP to unbrick the phone, it says my device model is unknown. Is this something to do with the frankenstein motherboard?
Thank you

Is that where you got the files? Then I can just extract them from a stock KDZ from the internet myself. I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to unbrick my phone. LGUP cannot recognize my phone model while it is in download mode. Even salt is all over the place with its information. I bricked the phone a while back so I forgot exactly how I did it in the first place.

I bricked the phone a while back so I forgot exactly how I did it in the first place.

Sorry I thought you could flash kez with LGUP. If your phone isn't being recognized in download mode I'd contact steadfasterx for a solution
I'm not sure what to do in that situation

Ok, I managed to get LGUP running with an edit to the build.prop of the device. LGUP says the phone version is H81220x. I checked the motherboard and it is the same model as baconbacon's LGG4, h810. What are my choices on flashing a proper KDZ? I've read certain things about ARB, but I'm not 100% sure how it works. Looking at the LGUP tool, it wants to select a .tot file. Any suggestions?

You should be able to.flash 812 software on it then. Google 20v kdz for 812 and flash it with lg up. If .kdz extension isn't available select refurbish....it can be tricky but eventually it will give you option to flash kdz
My phone is a 810 with 811 software. So when I used lg up I flashed it back to 811

Flashed the phone and LGUP says it was rebooting the phone but it never did. Now nothing comes up, not even when the sd card is installed. The only feedback I get from the phone is when it initially opened it vibrates, but no screen nor recognized in windows.

[Guide] How to recover from "This phone is permanently locked and cannot be unlocked"
The story:
So I have a V30+ with AS998 carrier, then I Frankenstein it to US998 and unlock bootloader and flash TWRP and all is good. But the signal is pretty bad since I live in South East Asia. Then I tried to flash the H930 OpenEU 21A zip rom from westwood 24. Well, it boot fine but i have no service after tapering around for many method (which many said the only solution is to send it back), I tried the"2945#*930# and the sim unlock screen says ""This phone is permanently locked and cannot be unlocked"". I tried flash back the Us998 kdz by LGUp, same message, flash the AS998 kdz also same message and no service

Remember you're doing this at your own risk. I won't be hold responsible for any damage.
Read and follow steps carefully.
First follow the tutorial to unlock your bootloader, install twrp and root.( https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/korean-variant-bootloader-unlock-root-t3804505), after unlooking the bootloader,
flash twrp flashable v300l android 8 rom( 2019 prefered) and boot android first.
Go to developer options and enable usb debugging and OEM unlocking if is unticked.
Now download v300l pie rom and flash with LGUP( Use the dualmode version to get all options), but this time choose refurbish.
After it successfully boot, go back to enable developer options and enable usb debugging.
Now Download H930 pie rom you like and flash with lgup but this time choose partition dl then click start.
Now this is the important part, when the partition selection menu pops up, select all partitions except xbl, xbl 2 and modem, these three partitions must be unselected or unmarked then hit ok to flash.( if you dont unselect them, it will flash H930 Modem and you wont get network since the korea variants and Global variants dont have the same modem. unselect those 3 options to retain the korea modem)
After it finishes, hold the volume down and power button to got to recovery and do factory reset.
Wait for it to finish booting and configure to get your lg v30 korea variant as a global version.
Notes:
Any time there is an update, please use the LGUP to flash kdz and select partition dl, and leave xbl xbl2 and modem unselected or else you will not get network or service signal.
Never use a flashable zip or else you will get softbrick( you can use a back up global rom to restore as update but make sure you dont select modem anytime youre doing update)
sometime registering network seems to take longer time, be patient.
You can also root by using the recovery installion method and root using twrp.
I dont know if this will work on the other korea versions but you can try.
You can now flash any aosp rom made for H930 you want without any problem because your device is now global version.
Please Fm radio will never work because the Korea Variants don't have Fm hardware. LG replaced the Fm hardware with DMB hardware for Korea market.
Saying thank you will be appreciated

But just covert from v300l to H930 first or else you wont get network signal. follow the tutorials and you will see the magic
just finish converting mine. V300S
from v21e
1.i flashed v300s 30h
2.next flashed H93030q_00_OPEN_EU_OP_0902.kdz (unchecked xbl,xbl2,modem)
3.flash TWRP-3.2.3-7-DataIMG.img
4.from twrp: flash magisk v19.4, dm_verity, ak3_rctd remover.
reboot successfully with signal and data. buy one thing i notice, there is no 3g/lte indicator under signal icon. but then again, i have data connection.
Now, my concern is:
1. if I backup my current stock rom (h93030q) via twrp, then i restore it via twrp. will I get softbrick?
2. what twrp version must prefer to install custom rom?
3. what are the working custom rom do i use?
4. whats the proper step in twrp to have a clean install for custom rom?
5. lastly, when im in custom rom, can i go back to stock h93030q via RESTORE on TWRP?
Earlier i flashed v300l rom step by step but i got no signal so i revert back to us998 20h oreo. But still i lost signal. (When i search it shows "error while searching networks) and (i check ims status in *#*#4636#*#* the n phone info and tap three dots and ims status. Ims status : not registered) my original device is h931 converted to us998.
I done everything flash rom in DL/Refurbished but no success till date. So if you guys have any fix please help me. And yes i don't loose imei number , i have it but no network. And wifi not able to search Wi-Fi's every time i need to restart to connect wifi. Sometimes it connect. Till restarting for wifi connection.
hi guys. this method works well, but network searching is too long, because firmware is searching for a second sim. At Oreo roms it was possible to fix it by changing (removing) persist.radio.multisim.config property in build.prop or OP folder. is there any way to fix it at Pie?

multisim=`getprop persist.radio.multisim.config`

Hi bro. Can it be used with volte?
The guide look promising and I would like to try it on my V300L that I bought to replace my H930 with a smashed screen (unfortunately a screen assembly would have cost more).
But I got two questions before trying it out:
1. The Bootloader unlock and root guide is based on Oreo, but I got my V300L on Pie, unfortunately (V300L30h). According to the hidden menu, ARB is 0 for APPSBL, SBL1, TZ and RPM, so it should work, right?
2. My goal is to convert the firmware to the EU variant, but I don't necessarily need a bootloader unlock or root myself. In the bootloader unlock guide you are supposed to flash the H930 firmware as a whole, including XBL, XBL2 and modem. So it seems like the V300L and H930 firmware is signed using the same key. As bootloader unlocking requires to reflash the firmware multiple times, which is not optimal for the EMMC chip, and bootloader unlocking could introduce some hassle with some apps, I wondered if it was possible to flash the firmware directly without peforming the bootloader unlock first, of course without flashing XBL, XBL2 and modem. Unfortunately, I don't really know how Qualcomm's chain of trust works, but I can imagine that having bootloader stages from different device firmwares might trip up the validation and I really don't want to mess up the bootloader chain.
Thanks in advance

??? I think you are confused about something.
All actual H930 firmware is single SIM. LG H930 and (even LG H930G) are single SIM phones.
There are only two "V30" dual SIM variants -- H930DS and H930D. So don't flash H930DS or H930D KDZ.
But actual H930 is single SIM. So, any LG stock KDZ for H930 is single SIM. The hard part is finding dual SIM KDZ not avoiding them.
________
I'm a little confused by "ROM". Are you talking about LOS custom ROMs? Or stock firmware TWRP flashable zips built like ROMs? Or are you merely using the word ROM to describe LG stock KDZ? In the OP, they use the word "ROM" to mean LG stock KDZ, so I will assume that's what you mean.

That's a single SIM phone. It is compatible with dual SIM H930 variants (DS and D), but H930 is a single SIM phone.
If it has dual SIM card option, just ignore it.
Early Oreo H930 KDZ didn't have that option and H930DS people who flashed that couldn't use their dual SIMs.

i can confirm what @dchinacay has said above with regard to stock H930 30q firmware having Dual SIM option in Korean V300 Frankenstein; is that option visible by default in non DS version of H930 too?
i have just converted a V300S to H930 Pie using method by @darkidz555 and @Amosika and flashed the stock H930 30q KDZ firmware from your mega upload last to achieve that.
many thanks to everybody that has contributed to this marvel!
while signal searching was instantaneous when the phone was still in its V300 state, it has slowed down noticeably as a H930 now.
is the slow down due to the Dual SIM option or because the phone is now searching for networks in bands not supported by the V300?
hope some gurus can shed some light and maybe we can solve the problem with a simple config file edit.
(i did not try the suggestion (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80558959&postcount=7) by @viktor.s as @dchinacay has encountered problem with it.)
@dchinacay, I do have 4G on top of the signal bars when mobile data is in use (wifi off or when not connected to wifi).
Dual SIM and slow signal search issue resolved!
I accidentally stumbled upon the solution for slow signal search after conversion to H930.
As I did not uncheck the box beside recovery and recoverybak for Partition DL when flashing H930 30q KDZ firmware, I had to reflash TWRP after 30q.
As known, Format Data is required during the first boot in TWRP recovery for TWRP to work.
After formatting data and rebooting back into TWRP recovery, I went ahead to flash Magisk 20.1, Disable DM Verity and RCTD Remover.
To my surprise, after the phone has booted into android PIE, there is no more Dual SIM option and the 4G cellular signal caught on almost instantaneously, like how it was when the phone is still a V300!
@dchinacay, the 4G signal icon display went back to that of V300's too!
Hope the above works a treat for all those facing the same issues!

He did NOT uncheck the recovery and recovery_bak, so he wiped out TWRP... Which actually solved his problem. He then re-installed TWRP, reformatted his data (necessary), flashed Magisk 20.1, Disable DM Verity and RCTD Remover.
He basically followed these steps:
INSTALL or REINSTALL TWRP on PIE stock KDZ with ALREADY-UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER

I want to root an LG g4, the bootloader and/or recovery seem to be missing from the device. Purchased used off ebay. I can only get the phone into download mode, so when i check it with SALT I see the antirollback says "40". I heard the term frankenstine device thrown around before. IS it even possible to root this phone anymore? IS it possible to get access to the bootloader? I feel like i've been walking around in the dark for a while. I would greatly appreciate any advice

Hi, I've got a similar issue. US991 bought new 2017 from LG via newegg. Advertised unlocked, assumed that just meant carrier unlocked, which it is, but also has OEM unlock flag in developer options. LGMENU shows ARB=2 but SALT stable shows ARB=20 so won't flash USU. SALT develop mode shows ARB=2.
Do I USU from develop mode? Does this one need USU (have never tried to flash TWRP or root or anything. Any help/guidance is welcome. the MM LG pushed to it in 2017 doesn't have firmware support for VOLTE which i was hoping to get by flashing a new ROM since i have have no calling since the AT&T 3G shutdowm.

only H811 does NOT need UsU. The h815 can be unlocked as well but only when you have the unlock bin already as the LG website closed. so: yes you need UsU.
yes keep SALT on develop and flash UsU there. The good thing is that FAQ #1 applies to your device so you could even go back if something is not working as you want it.
Thanks for your help steadfasterX.
US991_UsU_unlock.zip in develop mode worked great.
twrp-3.5.2_9-PREVIEW-275_g4.img worked great.
however, i have a new issue. when i flashed US991_UsU_baseband_flash-in-twrp.zip my SIM is no longer recognized; mobile data can't be enabled, says connection not allowed so can't add an APN. LGMENU shows normal APNs (ATTPHONE, NEXTGENPHONE, etc are gone). has a couple prepay APNs listed that i don't recognize and can't edit thru LGMENU. well there are 2 problems here:
1. not many us991 users here so less user feedback
2. usually no one wants to stay stock so less user feedback
the main problem is that the baseband files are incompatible with your bootloader stack (hopefully its just that). a fix for that would be creating a new baseband flash file from your modem partition. pls provide it from your backup BEFORE using UsU and I can take a look

1. not many us991 users here so less user feedback
2. usually no one wants to stay stock so less user feedback
the main problem is that the baseband files are incompatible with your bootloader stack (hopefully its just that). a fix for that would be creating a new baseband flash file from your modem partition. pls provide it from your backup BEFORE using UsU and I can take a look
