Pixel XL Bluetooth reliability - opinions before purchase? - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

I am thinking about buying a new Pixel XL 128GB off of eBay ($550). My current phone is the Moto X Pure which is having lots of bluetooth problems like disconnects from Plantronics headset and my car. I am also stuck on Android 7.0 with no updates in development.
I thought about the Pixel 2 XL, but really want a headset jack, especially when BT craps out or with my Bose noise cancelling headset.
I have read many posts about problems with the Bluetooth connection with the Pixel XL. Can people reply with their good or bad experiences on the stability and reliability of the Bluetooth connection on the Pixel XL?
thanks!

Pixel XL is 1 year in and will be EOL with P bare that in mind before putting a lot of cash down we have some small development going on but nothing compared to other devices and BT is really hit and miss with this device works fine for some and awful for others and if you get a verizon model it's completely locked down no bootloader unlock unless you use a paid service I saw mentioned in the threads. Take a look at other devices before making a decision :good:

I agree with Wakefield pass on the Pixel XL v1. Bluetooth has been hit and miss. Can't really recommend it. Maybe look at the Pixel 2 XL or a newer Samsung?

+3 if you wait a little bit the Pxl2 will drop price due to the new one coming out at the end of the year.

Bluetooth is awful on the Pixel 1 XL, whenever I touch the top glass at the back and the phone is in my pocket, I get stuttering. It's fine when the device is on the side sitting there.
I will be getting 3 XL this year, but keeping a close eye in the first month before I buy it for issues like this.

bluetooth is perfect for me even with google voice commands in my car. i had the oneplus 3t and 5 with google voice commands over bluetooth was crap. pixel is really reliable.

Pixel XL trade-in for Pixel 2

Hello! I currently have a Verizon (bootloader locked) Pixel XL 128GB and am on the fence of trading this in for an unlocked Pixel 2 (not XL) 64GB. I believe I can fully utilize the $100 store credit and that home mini could be used as gifts for friends/family. In short, my upgrade costs is $115.
So I'm just wondering, is the upgrade worth it? How are people enjoying their phones now? I've read numerous reviews and reasons to switch but this still puts my on the fence. I think the main reason being the resolution downgrade. I love watching movies/tv shows on my XL and it might be the deal breaker.
Let me know what you think and thanks for reading!
Are you going from an XL to a regular pixel 2? You might not like going down in screen size.

Yeah, I was thinking the same but is the processor speedup worth it? I also might consider the Pixel 2 XL.
Go the 2 xl,you won't be disappointed

This is good advice. I have a 2xl and it is awesome. Controls my tv, stereo, lights, home temp, navigates my car, does my christmas shopping, plays music on phone or home or mini or car or denon 5.1 klipsch/polk audio rock & roll system or any of my bluetooth speakers, keeps me up on the news, puts me to sleep, wakes me up, takes very awesome pictures & saves them all, no matter how many I take. I've always been reluctant to buy a new phone because every new release was missing something. The new pixel is a nice investment, not missing anything at least for me.
And insane battery life, I've never had a phone that sleeps for 9 hours and stays over 97%
My 2xl stays at 100% and can easily last me 2 days moderate to heavy use

I went from a Pixel XL to the 2XL then a Note 8 and now the Pixel 2. I chose the 2 over the XL and 2XL because the screen is super nice. As for the Note the camera is just not that good in comparison. The smaller size hasn't bothered me much at all, the screen is crisp, vibrant and readable. Performance wise the Pixel 2 and 2XL win hands down. I would do the trade.
Go for all of the above! ??
Thanks guys I really appreciate the advice! Most likely I'll trade in!

considering buying in 2019

Hi as the title suggests i am considering buying the pixel 2xl now in 2019 and was hoping to get some feedback . Since he pixel 3 is now available the pixel 2xl has become affordable for me now as i could not afford it when it was released and i have also found some in brand new condition. What would the pros and cons. I am a big fan of stock android and the closest i was able to get at an affordable price was the oneplus 5t which i currently use. Two of my deciding factors in choosing the pixel is firstly the stock android Os and secondly the camera which is said to be one of the best features. Thanks for reading and i look forward for some opinions.
Price?
Approx £300-330 new condition
Key is don't buy Verizon Pixel XL 2. Make sure they guarantee "oem unlocking" switch can be toggled on in Dev.Option
Argos selling Pixel 2 XL 128Gb for £399. I purchased for self Panda White.

I just bought one for $140 verizon unlocked, i dont really care about unlocking bootloader since it has android pie and runs good. Cons is probably that i it doesnt have headphone jack and no sd card slot besides that its a good phone.
I say go for it. I wouldn't say there are any cons. Just the headphone jack and no sd card slot like timex said but unless you take a lot of pictures and videos space should never be an issue It's a great phone and stock android and the camera are big pluses. You also get access to google fi if you're interested, the latest updates and betas for new android versions and performance is never a problem in my opinion. I heavily use mine for social media, games and other things and never run into issues. Even if you don't plan on rooting or flashing a custom rom it's an all around good phone at stock and it seems like it'll get even better with Q.
Unless you're okay with the biggest notch out there, I would say wait for the Pixel 4 (rumours that it'll be a pinhole, so I'm real excited about that as it's the main reason I didn't go for the 3...)...
But if you have to have a Pixel now....the least I can say is that I'm using the Pixel 2 XL (still) and I still consider it a perfect phone; still a great camera, runs the latest and greatest of Pie, dual stereo speakers, no notch!, and an all day battery...
300 eur - good deal
£300 - hmm, a litle bit expensive for 2017 phone. I got mine one year ago 128gb version for 350 eur (verizon version).
I use mine one year, it's still smooth and fast and very good camera. Just look (design) isn't new-nice.
That's what I thought about the price perhaps a little high at over £300. But that see is for a brand new one I can pick up used one for around £260 or£280 but I prefer buying new when it's a phone. Also like I said will the pixel be a massive improvement on the 5T I currently have.
Camera will be big jump.
I am using a Panda 2XL, still a great phone and I will probably keep it until the 4 is released.
Bought mine Panda version month ago,no cons for me i can say, great device, all running smooth, paid for used, but no scratches or so,still in quarantie 250€,and i would say great price, happy to get one...

Never buy OP, it's Chinese producer which always lies and cheats. Now all OP phones are overprice. If you want Chinese phone, get xiaomi or etc.

Benchmarks, camera photos
100% go for it, I got the Pixel 2 XL about a month ago and the phone hasn't let me down once. If you like taking photos all the time then I'd say get this phone as the quality of the photos come out so clean and high quality. I'm always blown away on how good the camera is and how good the performance runs on this phone. The only thing you'll probably miss out is the headphone jack thats literally it. Plus if you're interested they got the Android Q beta going on right now!
I considered, and I got it - and I don't regret it so far it's a great device!
Yess. Go for it. Got my black version of XL just 2 days back and I cant stop loving it [emoji7] You wont regret it.
Pros- Fluid UI
I had iphone 7 which i loved due to the buttery smooth interface, was confused with the android but this XL makes me forget the iphone ever since I got it.
Updates - Quick updates ( as you know)
Beautifully crafted design - As premium as 2019 flagships. Hand down [emoji7]
Camera - Freaking awesome!
And so much more. Just go for it.

Should I trade in my LG G7 for Pixel 3a XL?

If you've had a Pixel before and like the experience it's more of the same, if not, reviews often mention the surprisingly satisfying ownership experience and I agree with that assessment. I watched a video before the flagship 3s came out last fall, it was done by the dude in the Unbox Therapy videos. In it he was at an event in Vegas and up in what looked like a rather nice suite with a group of other YouTubers liked MKB. The premise was pretty simple, he walked around and asked everyone what phone they had in their pockets right then The Pix 2 would end up tied with iPhones fire in the most pocket honors. That's rather telling when the Pix had been out for the better part of a year and these are guys who have tried everything.
Realistically the buy-in is fairly cheap with all the day one deals and it's certainly an inexpensive way to scratch that new tech itch assuming you're falling prey to one.

Some more info would help. Like, what do you like / hate about the LG G7. Do you prefer feature filled custom UI / skins. Whats your thoughts, if any on stock vanilla android? Tell us what features you like most about the G7 and you can't go without. that will give us a better idea
The only 2 things I see about the G7 that is better is the SD845 chipset (it's faster than the Pixel 3a's SD670) and memory card expansion. Which the 3a lacks.
If neither of those 2 matter to you, and having a pure Android experience with timely updates does. Then go for the 3a
I just upgraded from the LG G7 and have had the Pixel 3a in hand for a few days. Performance wise there is not a huge difference. Do miss the wireless charging aspect, but I can live without it. Software experience and battery life are stellar not to mention the camera which blows the G7 out of the water. Truly amazed at how good the camera is with literally every picture I take. If you want the camera and software updates just do it. I do not think you will be disappointed. O and the speaker on the phone is quite good. Not as much bass as the G7 , but the stereo sounds is an improvement from the single down firing speaker on the G7.
yeah I came from S10 plus and my S10 plus had issues with waking up in my pocket and etc. so I off it and bought the Pixel 3A XL and I hadn't bought a google phone since the Nexus 6, and I`m really pleased with the 3a XL, since I didn`t buy the Pixel 3 XL, the camera is awesome on the Pixel 3A XL, so I want the other features that are missing, IP68 wireless charging, 845 SD, QHD display, front stereo speakers, but for the 479.00 price its definitely worth it, I will maybe it keep it as back up phone , I have already ordered my Pixel 3 XL from BHPHOTO and when I bought the 3A XL I got a 100.00 gift card from BHPHOTO for anything in there store so I got the PIXEL 3 XL 128gb for 679.99 plus tax, also I was pleasantly surprised with ATT service, right out of the box the 3A XL wifi and VoLte worked out the box.

How is cell reception on the 3a XL?

It wasn't great in the 2XL. Any improvement here?

thats gonna depend on your carrier and your area more than it will on your phone
my 3a xl works fine on verizon but i live in a major city so coverage is never an issue for me

Coming from the Galaxy line of phones, with the note 9 being my last, I find no issues with reception or calls. No better or worse. I live on a fringe area and I lock on to LTE, although I get barely 1meg download at home. On a good signal area, download speeds of 25 to 50 megs is about what I get. I'm on an att mvno (red pocket), so no hd voice or wifi calling. But standard voice calls are ok.
On T-Mobile, I've actually seen nearly identical or even better download speeds vs my OnePlus 6T, which is surprising considering the power from the 6T.
I'm really stuck between both phones. I've always LOVED any OnePlus device I've owned. While I've used pixel devices before, this is the first one I've actively owned and used consistently, and I'm actually loving it. My OnePlus fanboy side is telling me not to give in... But I'm becoming a bigger pixel fan every second I'm using it
I just passed on my 6T today, I had held onto it in case remorse set in but that hasn't happened. I went from Tmo on the 6T to Fi on this phone and for whatever reason get faster speeds on this phone even though in theory I'm on the Tmo network. Go figure on that one, only thing I've got is that my 6T was the unlocked variant, could be a factor...
I was getting too many dropped calls.
Not just in my house, but all over.
Very disappointing.
I returned my 3a XL for this and a few other reasons.

He probably got a iPhone since his post was sent from a iPad ?
Could be his provider, location, etc. One data point doesn't mean much unless of course your the data point with connectivity troubles. I don't have any problems with anything. Phone has been flawless in that respect. Just wish it was a little speedier...

I think this phone is awesome for the price. I sold my note 9 for a better camera and timely updates, and don't regret it one bit. But I do have some issues with the bluetooth behavior. When I turn on any previously paired speaker, the phone automatically assumes I want it to connect to it. This is annoying because every time I turn on the TV, the Pixel redirects sound output to it's sound bar. Also, when I connect to bluetooth speakers, music starts playing and then cuts off, and I have to redirect sound to the phone, then back again to the bluetooth speaker for audio to work. The second issue seems to be fixed on Q, but not the first one. It's just a minor annoyance, and not enough to ditch this phone, but never had this issue with any other phone. Other than that, I love my Pixel.

Query to those who upgraded from OG Pixel

Hey fellas. I have been using a Pixel XL 2016 since December, 2016. While the phone is good (and I just got a brand new device as replacement from Google because mine had a faulty mic.) I would like to use something which is better. And while Pixel 4 will be released soon, the lowest priced upgrade I can see is up to the Pixel 2 (XL or otherwise).
Now I was reading the GSMA review and I was disappointed to see that despite having stereo speakers the Pixel 2 has a low loudspeaker output decibel. Well I live in a country where loudspeaker does matter as there's too much chatter so a loud loudspeaker would be preferred. As it is I have never been able to hear the ringtone from my OG while outside, now I see the Pixel 2s have even lower ringtone dB! Have you guys found a problem with that? Please don't care to comment those who don't receive any phone calls.
Secondly I saw that Dpreview said that the Pixel 2 has inferior video quality to Pixel 1 (when the site's built-in comparison tool was used), is that true? And as for the still camera, how much better is Pixel 2's camera over the OG's, be in day time or night time? I thought OIS should make a big improvement, does that hold true in real life?
If there's anything else then please let me know. I just don't want to upgrade just for the sake of it. I know I will get a better SoC (821 to 835), better battery life, at least one more year of official support, but at the same time the display will be ****e, the video quality issue remains concerning, and then there is the loudspeaker loudness concern as well.
Those who have used the OG Pixel long term and then moved on to the Pixel 2, kindly bother to comment, I would appreciate it. I will be using the Pixel 2 for at least couple of years.
