Phone turns off when unplugged from charger. - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After charging phone to 100 it will only work for short time and then it will randomly shuts down (usually the moment u use it, like unlocking the screen or getting a call). And then it wont turn on until u start charging. Sometimes when u plug it back in battery is at ~90%, sometimes it goes back to 0. I was thinking it was battery's fault but almost every time this happens my phone does some kind of soft reset, sometimes my themes reset back to stock, sometimes my saved wifi dissapear, notification settings reset, etc. Phone has the screen replaced a year ago too if that could add to it.

You can try to revert it to stock, but most probably is a battery problem.

I've been using my phone for 3 years already and a half year ago I noticed that id didn't hold a charge when the battery went below 30 % . it randomly shut down below 30 % epsecially when I tried to take photos or use flash (that require high Amperage) . Sometimes it restarted itself after unexpected shut down and as I noticed dalvik cache was formatted/deleted. so I had to login to my google account set themes and etc. after I upgradet to 7.0 every unexpected shut down began to worry me becaouse even app data began to dissapear. So a week ago I ordered a new battery and now I am relieved . in my opinion it's 100% battery problem .

Definitely a dead battery. 3 years is a long time for these batteries. You did well to get that long from it!.

Thank you for this thread. I was starting to go loopy because I thought it may have been some app. Same issue and I need to find a battery guy.

Crash -> Black Screen -> Battery Pull

I'm getting a crash once every 3-4 days on average that requires a battery pull. So far I've had it happen while receiving a Whatsapp message, replying to a Google+ notification, and most recently, while listening to music.
I know I am not alone because I have seen a few other threads talking about similar issues. I am wondering how widespread this is however while I try to decide whether to return the phone or not. Are any of you running for a long period of time (1 week or more) without any instability?
I've had it happen to me a couple of times too, once when playing a movie in Diceplayer, and accidentally push the power button, causing the screen to go blank, then I couldn't turn it back on. Had to pull the battery. Had it happen to me again this morning, can't remember what I had done prior to it happening, though. Anyway, I did not have the time to pull the battery, so I just tried it again a couple of minutes later, and it woke up, all was normal again.
Happened twice only since November 25th to me.
I've had the phone now for a couple of weeks and have yet to have a crash.
My phone crashed two times in one week. Booth times when i closed a game.
Just take into consideration that most of these crashes are due to incompatibility between ICS and apps that don't officially support it yet. Not as much due to the device itself. So returning it and getting a phone running gingerbread won't solve the crashed when that phone eventually gets ICS....
I get it every few days too. Crash followed by what looks like the phone trying to reboot, but screen just goes dead and I need to pull battery to restart it.
i have had this too a few times. the screen just turns off, and won't turn back on. have to pull the battery before i can turn it back on.
this last time, i was just in the sms app, reading a message. i noticed the text was rendering strangely, with sort of colours around the edges of the letters, as if it was a low-res screen. then just as i tapped the message, to try to see if the rendering would change if i highlighted it, the screen turned off, and the phone seems to be dead, requiring a battery pull before i am able to turn it back on.
i haven't pulled the battery yet, and the phone is still sitting apparently dead. however i also notice that despite the screen being off, and it sitting here for a while doing what seems like nothing, the top half of the phone is actually pretty hot (front and back). not due to the screen having been on either, because the bottom half is cold.
Try turning off the eq in the music player. Worked for me it seems.

Based on the replies received so far, I think it is fair to say that these crashes are most likely related to software issues (as opposed to hardware). I guess patience is due while our bleeding edge technology stabilizes..
me too
Yes, i have also had a crash twice in the one week that I have had sgn which required a battery pull to turn the phone back on. I think the first time, I was in the settings and it looked like a few pixels were going crazy then screen went black and I had to pull battery. Then about 5 days later, I was not using the phone but when I went back to it, the screen was black and I couldn't turn it on untill battery pull. Watching this thread with interest.
Had it a few minutes ago with Facebook. Had just opened it when it turned black. No button responded. Eventually managed to get back in menu. Considered removing the app.

Didn't have a black screen so far, but had it freeze 3 times in the week that I own it (2x Google Maps, 1x in Gallery when pressing home button). Screen stays just as it is, no corruption, no dimming, no response to anything.
I had similar problems guys and horrible battery life. It is 100% an app you downloaded.
Do a complete wipe or figure out which app it is one by one. I did the second method and I only lose 1% of battery life an hour on standby.
Completely stock GN with 4.0.3 - never rooted, locked bootloader

[Q] Reboot problem when not charging

I have had my P607T for a couple of months now. It is box stock no changes. Over the last few weeks I have noticed that it will reboot while using various apps. (Fliipboard, Chrome, Clash of Clans, Papyrus...) They don't seem to all be heavy graphics or network. The only symptom is that the screen starts to flash then "bang" reboot (and trouble rebooting when not plugged in). It would not be too annoying except that it will loose wifi settings and the wallpaper. I have tried different wallpapers (saw a thread blaming the live wallpapers ) Unloaded some apps (had another phone issue with FitBit and HTC blink on my N4). I stay away from CoC (my base has been raided so often now ...). Any thoughts? I am really trying to like this tablet more than my old ASUS Transformer but this reboot and reset wifi is a pain.
Thanks in Advance,
marka

Have you tried a factory reset? I'd make tmobile replace it
was hoping to avoid the reset button. Tried it and still giving trouble it rebooted while restoring apps. I bought the tablet on ebay, I don't think TMO will take it back. oh well I'll keep poking about.
thanks,
I experience exactly the same problem since the update to 4.4.2 (kitkat): The screen starts to flash, suddenly the tablet reboots. I tried a factory reset multiple times, also removed the SD card and reflashed the ROM via KIES, nothing helped so far. Also, even when plugged into the outlet for several hours the tablet didn't charge at all (I think it stopped charging when the screen saver kicks in).
A couple of weeks ago I filed a RMA request (my dealer sent the tablet to Samsung), yesterday I got it back. It was charged at 60% and when I plugged it to the outlet it actually charged (even when the screen went off). But after about one hour (the battery was still > 60%) the flashing reappeared and after a while the tablet started to reboot again. Interestingly the battery now showed only 2% and the low battery warning appeared.
I think the problem might occur only when the battery runs low (which happens very fast as something seems to drain the battery), while android still shows a much higher battery level . Never experienced these problems when the tablet was plugged in so far.

At least I don't feel so alone with this issue... I have been paying more attention to my build up process since the factory reset. I found, the other night quite by accident, that when I logged in to Twitter the reboot started. So for the next few days I have left Twitter off the machine and it is doing better. I suspect that something is hitting the power drain (like you mention) and that causes it to have problems. In that thought I have also turned off the power saving mode and auto screen now just to add to the list of things I am avoiding.

Have you considered rooting and using root apps to stop the apps from being able to do such things?

Do I have a bad battery too?

1. Bought it used - c6502. Phone arrived with around 10% battery, everything looked fine and then it kept shutting off every time I tapped the camera icon. It was on android 4.4.2
2. Charged to 100%, after hard resetting (using the button next to the microsd slot) couple times, it finally turned on, updated to 4.4.4, used it whole day without any problem and then google play services, xperia home, camera common or something simlar and whole bunch of craps stopped working when battery was around 20%. Phone was STILL on. So I turned off the phone and can't turn it back on now. Tried the hard reset button, Sony & the xperia logo show up, then I see the gray screen only. The on screen charging indicator shows around 3 bars which should be good enough to power up the phone, but it doesn't turn on! I'll let charge it fully and try again.
Can a bad battery stop all these services? or is it a software issue? As I said the phone was still on when all these services started crashing.
After reading some other threads, it feels like some kernels have battery drain issues ( I even don't know which kernel mine is running, used it for a day only). Should I try to flash a different kernel? Could you name a few that don't have battery drain issues? Or should I just get a new battery?
Thanks!

Battery problem

When I charge my battery and it is 100% my TAb S is switching off. I only see the battery picture showing 100%.
I did a hard reset and a clear install without results. Anyone an idea what happens?
Are you saying it switches off completely or the screen does?
It switches off completely, not only the screen.
I had this problem a couple of weeks ago,has soon has the tablet booted up it would switch off then I would have to boot up again, then it would switch of again.i had the battery changed by Samsung about a month ago it started switching off since that battery change, the new battery started discharging just like the first battery, the tablet is now back with Samsung,i am hoping to get it back in the next couple of days, lets hope they fix it this time.Longlegs

HTC10 random restart, widgets gone

Hi all
I've been trying to solve this problem for a few months now. Basically, the majority of the time this happens is when my phone is under 55% battery.
- When opening an app the phone will restart itself. Sometimes it restarts at the exact same battery percentage level, other times it restarts and it is sitting at 3% battery.
This has also happened when the phone was at over 75% battery.
I notice that a lot of the time when it restarts all of my widgets are gone. I have animations turned off in developer settings and occasionally when it restarts these are turned back on again. I'm using a custom keyboard and occasionally when it restarts it will reset to the factory keyboard with vibrations and sounds turned back on.
My phone is not rooted and I'm not using a case. The phone is 1 year 4 months old, although since it started a few months ago it was around the 1 year mark. So no warranty. My software is up to date and all apps are updated. Play store says none of them are corrupted.
I contacted HTC support and they suggested testing the battery by charging to 100% then turning it on airplane mode with the screen on full brightness and leaving it for 1 hour to see how much the battery drains. It only drained 2% (he said it could drain up to 25%) so it is not the battery. He then said I should test the apps to see if one of them is causing it. Unfortunately there are no HTC service centres in Sydney (only retailers who double as service centre) so I'd have to send it away for HTC to check it.
Yesterday I thought it could be the htc flip clock, as since the last restart that was the only widget I had and it disappeared on the restart yesterday, so I removed it and kept using the phone to see what happened. The battery was able to still be used without restarting down to under 15% which has not happened for months, so I'm thinking it could be that widget causing the issue. I've since added a different clock/weather widget but I hate the look of it and it doesn't open the stock HTC weather app when clicked.
So I guess my question is, is anyone else having this same issue and if so, did you find the cause of the issue/have you managed to fix it?
I'd rather not do a system restore unless completely necessary as I'm about to go overseas for a month and I don't want to risk losing anything so close.
Thanks in advance for any help. Hopefully I've added all relevant info.
So after removing the flip clock widget and replacing with another and all day use my battery is down to 27% and has not restarted once. I may have solved my own problem, although it doesn't explain why the battery drains so fast but I guess I can work that out on my own.
Hopefully anyone else with this issue will find this and solve it too.
Cheers
Test it with some battery drainer first, if it reboot then it is the battery.
My 10 just got the battery replaced by HTC had similar issue, it will reboot when high cpu usage and battery level under 40%, it will seems working ok if there is little cpu usage and will only turn off at about 3~5%
