I have noticed recently that some custom ROMs on Zuk Z2 support the vulkan API. (Dev options->GPU rendering->opengl/open gl (skia)/vulkan)
I have seen at least two custom ROMs' screen shots on which some members had vulkan as an option but i never had it.
So questions:
Does vulkan API really help in 3d gaming if selected?
How could I enable it as an option on a ROM which supports it but i don't have it?

Only the games which actually run on vulkan engine. Currently, the most famous is Vainglory which is e-sports moba for touch. and there are like 6-7 android games which run on vulkan. And also, Adreno 530 already supports Vulkan API, it should come enabled by default for supported apps.

do we still need a separate vulkan build for vulkan on VG? or it has been merged to the main game?

The API is already in-built and Adreno 530 fully supports it. All you need is a game which works on vulkan api.

yes, but in the past if you want to play vainglory with vulkan, you need a separate build for samsung s7 devices because the game from play store doesnt have vulkan
all Im asking is if they merged those 2 or it's still a separate beta
edit: nvm, I found out that they stopped vulkan beta on vainglory a while ago

Lately i'm questioning myself why Motorola defy doesn't has hardware acceleration graphics for the Android Interface like Sony Ericcson Experia Arc does.
Why ? Defy has a powerful GPU that can Improve sightly the performance in the whole device and reduce CPU usage and also increase battery power. Can someone explain me why it isn't activated already ? Do you think that the next version AKA Ice Sandwich will come on our devices ? I hear that the next Android version will has GPU accelerated graphics, Is it right ?

As far as i know xperia arc has a better gpu, hence it is faster.
What do you mean by hardware graphic acceleration for 'android interface'? Do you mean the launcher?
The last update for defy was froyo and it is very unlikey to get an official update to ice cream sandwich

This is only for 3.X devices, which Google didn't release its source code to the community. Also this version is not optimized for mobile phones so I guess we have to cross the fingers and see what the community can do to port Ice Sandwitch to our device when it will be released.
The thing is, why some 2.3.X devices have 2D Accelerated Graphics and Defy don't ? It's a marketing strategy or something ? Cause' it hasn't any sense.
Install launcher pro and opera then... they both use GPU to accelerate their work. Launcher pro is really smooth...
Juste seeing the next gen API, Vulkan, and potential benefit (performance, energy efficient (CPU can sleep a little ), multiplatform & easy to port game apps on any OS), can work on mobile/desktop platforms with OpenGL ES 3.1, and OpenGL 4.2 and next !
Vulkan is a very good new for increase performances & battery life ! Our Zenfone 2 seems be have a PowerVR Rogue G6430 with OpenGL ES 3.1 support, so, there is a way to have benefit of this API on him. :good:
I have searched on the web, but can not seem to find the answer as to whether or not the pixel supports vulkan API. Every article that keeps popping up is in regards to the galaxy series. Does anybody know whether it's supported or not?

The vulkan api is native in Nougat. Problem is there aren't any games that really support it. Vainglory has a beta out but I can't download it on my 6p
I thought it was supposed to be native as well. So I downloaded need for speed no limit. When compared to the vid they showed at Google conference, my game doesn't look like that lol.

Mi max is a great phablet for some games. Today we have many good roms based on android 7.1. Maybe @TheStrix add vulkan api support in cm14.1 if adreno 510 support it?

I believe it does have full support. On version 1.5.4 of ppsspp you can enable the vulkan backend just fine. I just did it on my moto . give it a try
Tried some benchmarks last night, vulkan works but is a lot slower than the same benchmark in opengl 3.
