I have a N6 on Verizon that is dying and needs to be replaced. I'm debating between this phone or buying a used 6P and hopefully get a year or so out of that.
Reading the real life reviews on the pixel 2XL, seems like there are a lot of issues (I know that's a small sample size.)
Just curious if people would recommend this or holding out.

I have had this phone since day one with no issues at all except I took the Verizon deal and got bootloader locked in. The camera is awesome. The pure Android is phenomenal. The screen size and clarity excellent and responsiveness from app to app blows away my work s8 and previous iPhone 8. I've talked a lot of my colleagues into the move to the pixel line due to this pixel 2xl. The fact we get all updates first ensures the longevity of its life cycle and the resale factor is solid.
I love it, screen issues are over blown IMO. With my usage I can get nearly 2 days out of the battery and stock android. Stay away of the 6p, the battery issues are real. I had one for about a year and 3 months and the battery issue reared it's ugly head. Looked for a quality replacement, thought I had found one, took it apart and replaced it myself and was screwed. The original battery was swollen and deformed beyond belief, amazed it had not exploded yet. Replacement batteries for that phone are impossible to find, anything you do find will have issues. The genuine replace I found caused the phone to shut off when using the camera and the phone would not power back on until you plugged it in. Makes camera unusable and phone useless if it shuts off on you and you do not have a cord around. When you get in that situation you find out how few devices really use a usb c at this point ....
Anyways back to your question, Love this phone so far. I also loved my 6p until the battery issue came up and would still be using it if that had not happened. But this is a great upgrade.

Like you, I was a Nexus 6 owner, too, before buying the Pixel 2 XL and, in about 3 years of usage with the N6, in my opinion, after the launch of the new Made by Google family on October 4th, this phone would have been the only real heir and successor of the good old Nexus 6, and my theories have been all confirmed when I've receveid it one month ago
I have a galaxy S8+ and I still use my pixel 2XL as my daily driver. This is my first nexus/pixel device and I could not be happier. The battery life is amazing, their quick charger is far faster than Samsung's. The screen issue, pulled others have said are blown completely out of proportion. I was spazzing out looking to see if my device had "defects". I decided to stay away from the forums and tech blogs I read. And I still to this day have not had any issues with my display. Did I mention the battery life is amazing? The unlockable bootloader is a new thing for me as well. The people that go out of their way to write reviews are more likely to write something if they have a negative experience. I'll lurk the forums to see what's going on. But I usually don't chime in unless I have something of value to contribute. I have the black 128gb. I.would purchase this phone again. I also lol forward to the next generation.
As long as you get one without too much blue tint at angles (screen lottery), then the phone is amazing, especially the camera, pure Android, quick updates, speed.
But I seriously contemplated holding out until next year because my first phone had significantly noticeable blue tint. I traded for a second and the second was much better luckily. Some people have had to trade it in several times before they got a good one
Came from an S7 Edge and din't expect much of an upgrade. I was wrong, this phone feels way quicker, lasts twice as long and the camera is truly astonishingly good.
My only complaint is the lack of a headpone jack and a gamma curve causing crushed blacks at minimum/v.low brightness.

Skip the N6P and go straight to the Pixel line- you will experience problems with the N6P, guaranteed. I traded in my bootlooping N6P for a stellar 2XL, with zero issues. What you are hearing/reading is a very vocal minority of ppl who aren't satisfied. Many of the claims are simply unfounded. Great phone, extended 2 year warranty through Google, incredible camera, free unlimited 4k photo/video storage. I understand Verizon has a cut rate deal on their bootloader locked phone but (personally) I would pay the extra money to buy directly through Google and then use it on Verizon. My phones need to be bootloader and carrier unlocked. Your needs may be different. Best of luck.
My Pixel 2 XL just arrived yesterday from Google, I followed Max Lee's guide to root it immediately.
I also have the LG V30 through T-Mobile, and I have to say, the Pixel phone feels laggy in areas. I rooted it right away, so can't say what it felt like stock, but compared to my T-Mobile LG V30 which is bone stock, no root, the V30 feels much smoother and very snappy in comparison. I am actually shocked at how the V30 feels like a nicer phone to be honest, the screen is more vibrant on the V30, the smoothness is faster on the V30. Not sure how that's possible compared to a stock Android phone ? I rooted it for AdAway and Titanium Backup.
Opening the Phone app, or Settings or Messages app, I see a slight lag and jerky animation for a split second, which is NOT there whatsoever on my V30.
And not to be rude, but where are the custom ROM's ? I cannot believe there's not one single custom ROM at all yet released for the Pixel2 XL ? Phone's been out 2 months and zero ROM's ? I owned nearly every Nexus phone, and the first two months there'd be a ton of ROM's and development happening. What's going on?

We have 3 on family lines and love this phone. Perfect size, very fast, and the clock/date always on display is great.
If you listen to much music, it shows title and artist of most tunes. It's good on battery and charges up fast.
Buy a Google unlockable version if you tinker with your phones, or get a screaming deal at Verizon now if you do not plan to unlock the bootloader.

So is blue tooth the only option or is there a adapter to the charging port like the iPhone has?

The only complaint that I have with this phone is that I'm too happy with it. Every other phone I've owned has either been locked down or not properly supported, and I've had to undertake the fun projects of unlocking/getting custom roms/ making stuff work/ etc. This phone gives me everything I want. I have no reason to mess with it and if I ever did, unlocking is as easy as "fastboot flashing unlock." That's no fun at all.
I am thrilled with this phone. I knew about the blue shift going in and tested that out at Best BUy and thought it was completely doable. Boy was I wrong, the screen is actually way more than doable. The software is the best Android yet, and I've been on Android since the Nexus 1 phone. Everything works spectacular from the camera to the battery to the buttery smoothness. There are a couple little things I wish worked better but this is by far the closest phone to perfect I've gotten since being an Android user from day 1.

Came from a Nexus 6P which was and is an excellent phone but this 2xl is just that little bit better in every department. The camera is utterly stellar, the phone is soo fast plus updates are immediate.. Brilliant brilliant piece of kit:good:

You should have tried relationship counselling, but now it is too late.
Unrootable means un usable in my eyes. Plus the battery lasts about 6 hours.
Not sure why you can't use it without root, I am. And my battery last all day with 4G.

LG G5 more hits than misses
Upgraded a number of family phones to the LG G5. I'm a bit old school and prefer simple flip phones. We would probably still be using Samsung Rugby flip phones if they worked with our carrier.
If you're in the market for a high end phone that's more than shiny, with lots of usable practical features and actually includes the latest available technology, consider the LG G5. We think it definitely has more hits than misses.
1. The 3 Cameras, make the phone one of the best camera substitute
2. Modern CPU (Qualcomm 820, currently top of the line) helps performance, battery efficiency, spectrum / wireless performance.
3. 4GB RAM useful for multitasking and running large demanding software
4. 32GB internal built in storage
5. Expandable storage with Micro SD (sorry Apple)
6. Miracast, industry standard screen sharing
7. IR Blaster
8. USB-C, the modern USB port the industry actually agrees and moving towards
(including devices from Apple, Google, Microsoft, LG, etc).
9. User removable / replaceable battery
10. Modular, and easy repair-ability
11. FM capable - enabled depending on carrier
12. A major phone brand / model thus more available accessories
13. Price point - best value for high end / flagship phone
Cons - what's missing that other devices may offer
1. Water / Dust proof - a nicety, and can be added to the LG G5 via certain cases.
2. Premium Metal / Glass feel - subjective. The LG G5 is all aluminum but covered in a primer paint. Besides, most folks I know use a phone case.
We have a number of mobile lines / phones within our family. Our last few phones have been Samsung, from Samsung flip phones to Android devices Galaxy T989D/S2X, Note 2, Note 3, Note 4. When we were up for replacements, we going to go with Samsung Galaxy Note 4, but it was no longer available, replaced by the Note 5. The Note 5 was more expensive than the Note 4. It was hard to justify paying more for a successor that included less than its predecessor - no Micro SD, no IR, no removable battery. Note 5 excluded usable practical features for a shiny exterior, and wasn't even water proof. We heard new phones were coming March / April 2016 so we waited and eventually decided on the LG G5. We believe it to be the best value, and offered the opportunity to award a vendor trying to innovate.
Ultimately it's just a phone, but at least it has the more important convergence features covered, mainly solid phone features, and solid camera.
** Unrelated, but its thanks to XDA community and other enthusiasts who help keep golden oldies such as the T989/S2X and Note 2 phones kicking. There's several Marshmallow ports for T989 and Note 2

Got a G5 (on AT&T) yesterday as a gift from my work and am coming from a Moto G with custom ROM's galore. The only thing I really miss is forward and back arrows in the nav bar for typing and Chrome Pie. Why pie controls aren't native to Chrome and requires root access is absolutely stupid.
Every other root function I used on my Moto G was to make up for the limitations of the device. No need now. Holy crap this thing is fast as hell and thanks to doze, standby is crazy. The SD 820 is an absolute beast of an SOC. And this is only my first full day on it. Going on a hike later today and can't wait to use the camera on this thing. So far I am very impressed with this phone.
Just received my EU h850 in the mail on Wed, already unlocked and rooted. No build quality issues at all.
Don't know why some are having battery issues. I easily get 24hrs of use with 5+hrs sot
That's with gaming,youtube, browsing,and Bluetooth
The screen uses much less battery than my Sprint g3...and even with custom everything on my g3 this phone performs sooo much better in everyway.
I think carrier branded g5 have a lot of bloat killing battery

Got mine from O2 in the UK and love my G5... O2 have put no bloatware on it at all and it therefore has good battery life. I have a G4 and the G5 flies compares to it (I loved the G4 too even though it had it's issues!). The only negative point is that getting a good tempered glass screen protector is going to be a nightmare as the screen is clearly quite flexible (hence the corner buckles etc) and so getting one to fit perfectly is going to be a challenge. Having said that, this is a very new phone, and all new3 models have odd issues (software/hardware), so if it becomes a problem then I'll RMA it to O2 or LG and get it swapped.
Hate some of the software tweaks, but this is a damn fine phone.
All in all, this is a pretty good phone. I'm really liking the wide angle lens and the fingerprint sensor. (This is my first phone with a fingerprint sensor)

Same here and agreed... awesome standby time as well... My only issue with it is, I wish the screen and always on display were brighter outside and the overall volume was a bit louder, especially when using your own ringtones, like my G4. When I set up mine.. I didnt bother with the App drawer update, to me.. it was a new phone, new UI so I went for a bit of a change instead of copying my old G4 setup... made me feel like Ide actually bought a new phone.. and im finding it much simpler and enjoyable to use.
I find the UX5 much slicker and faster to use, more responsive and I can fly through tasks, OneNote and OneDrive.. Very Happy with my G5, also the 0.2" screen reduction makes no difference after a day or so
For the ATT G5 is there a way to save pictures/files/videos directly to the memory card or does that require root?
Love it. I'm not crazy about the design but a 2.5$ case makes it look badass.
Camera is outstanding, battery life is good (30 hours with 4 hours SOT , brightness is set to Auto, BT and NFC off).
The phone works fast and doesn't overheat.

Loving my G5 had it a few months now, bought the Spigen Rugged Armor case really nice, snug fit. Great camera, battery life & blazing fast, great screen, fingerprint scanner works amazing its really responsive, i was pretty surprised actually at how well the fingerprint scanner works .... Don't care for root to be honest, only thing i really liked about being able to root my old G2 was having AdAway installed. USB-Type-C is a god send especially in dim light.

I also love the camera and settings provided on the LG G5. My only disappointment might be the capture time when using HDR mode. Aside from this, the video and picture quality is worthy of this benchmark phone, and the wide angle option adds a new enthusiasm for taking your phone with you on the scenic route.
From South Africa here. I have the H850 G5 as well, and no bloatware whatsoever. Battery lasts me a full day under moderate to heavy use (That does not include the camera). The auto-brightness is on point (but gets a little too low in a dark room to make watching videos or gaming comfortable). Battery charges fully in 28min from 1% whilst turned on. It's blazing fast. I have games in the background that I get back to hours later, and the memory never fails. Best phone I've ever owned.
I like almost everything about this phone minus the flimsy quality of the lcd quoting/Glass as its getting scratched very very easily, same is the case with back camera glass/visor.
Unfortunately, i wasn't using any screen protector earlier and i'd tried to clean the screen with a very soft microfiber cloth but to my surprise even that cloth had left some tiny hairline scratches. I couldn't believe my eyes at first but this was the fact sadly
I am not sure now if i can get rid of these scratches as i really love neat and clean phones.

I upgraded from an S3 that had been in service since it's release and had never failed me. It just became a bit dated and the battery was due for replacement. I caught the G5 for $1 at Best Buy so I said what the hell. My first unit didn't last 12 hours before dying. However the replacement is on it's 4th charge/discharge cycle and is seamless. I hope that the first unit was just a fluke because this thing hums. I hadn't even tested any other phones since owning the S3 so the speed and fluidity of the G5 blows me away. I cannot wait for rooting capability to customize it even though the factory setup isn't bad and not as restrictive as others I have dealt with in the past. I am giving it 3 stars for now due to the DOA unit I first received though.

Looks and feels just right. Has all the essential ingredients of a very good device - nice display, Camera and fast!
I named mine cold Betty. She's cold to the touch, but her love is so warm.
I like so much OnePlus 3 and it really gives me awesome feel, and I fall in true love with it. When I am take it in my hand I am just fits in perfectly in my palms.
I have so many gorgeous protective cases.
OnePlus 3 like to me on first sight for so much but beautiful stuff.
It is a pity that the rear camera of OnePlus is protruding, though it uses 16MP lens IMX298 from Sony.
OnePlus 3 smartphone supports dual sim card dual standby.
OnePlus also gifts me one more VR Headset. Before announcing OnePlus 3 smartphone And this VR Headset is not made by OnePlus either, instead by AntVR.
And have very good battery and features fast charging technology.
Its a good phone for a reasonable price but not a flagship killer for an amazing price.
Isn`t a good phone all we need realy, most extra features on the `flagships` are useless to me anyway

The LG G4 on the other hand was frustrating as a device if not for the awful software experience that I couldn't even fix even if I wanted to. Never again doing anything but OnePlus or Nexus. G4 was a huge mistake.
Current 6p and HTC 10 user here and I can't even begin to say how impressed I am with this OP3. Grant it I've only had it half a day, so far I'm completely blown away!! Almost 3 hours sot right now and battery at 50% ?I love everything about it. Only mediocre thing is the external speakers. Amazing camera, beautiful screen, perfect size, feels greet in the hand, shoot it even looks great! Oh and the finger print reader is way faster than both the 10 and 6p. But the thing that impressed me the most is the skin. I'm still bone stock and I never leave phones stock.. it just has all the things Google SHOULD have in stock MM.. no bloatware either.. just an impressive handset and all for 400$ bucks! Nexus 6P, 5x, Note4, LG G4, S6 Edge, OP2 owner here.
OnePlus 3 is very much what Nexus 6P should be. It's lighter and faster than 6P and easier to grip and easier to use.
The 6P has the better display and better all around camera but the OP3 has everything most power user would ask for.
Tap to wake, Dark mode, and customizeable buttons are great to have. Hated how stock Android doesn't have these simple features.

As a previous owner of the oneplus 1 and then the oneplus 2, I can say that oneplus has out done themselves. I got my 3 in yesterday. Couple of quick points:
1. I waited for 6 weeks after initial launch date to just get an invite for the oneplus one (June 2014). It took the company 4 more weeks to get it to me after ordering and paying for it. Customer service sucked, invite system sucked, logistics and management sucked... Just about everything with the company SUCKED.
But the phone was awesome.
The specs and price couldn't be matched. That was the first phone I can honestly say I have ever fallen in love with. No screen issues or any of the other crap a lot of people were complaining about. Just pure love for the device, borderline hatred for the company though.
2. The oneplus 2 comes out last summer, again, with an invite system but I get lucky and receive one for being an early forum user within 2 weeks of official launch. It took them 6 weeks to get the phone to me. Was excited when I first got it, and then my optimism quickly turned to disappointment. The oneplus 2 was not nearly worth the upgrade. I should have kept my oneplus one in hindsight. Total buyer's remorse and top of that, the company still didn't have their shlt together. Again, customer service still sucking hard, untimely bug fixes for the OS, lags and heating problems with the phone, I could go on and on... Horrible experience all the way around. Hated that damn phone.
3. One more shot oneplus. Buying my 3rd phone from them in less years. 3 total phone purchases in less than 2 years. And only had the oneplus 2 since late September 2015, though it was ordered and processed the 2nd week of August.
With much apprehension, I placed my order for the 3, Monday afternoon, June 20, to be shipped to Atlanta, GA. I was distraught when my DHL shipping email was received telling me that the phone was in Hong Kong going through customs Tuesday morning. *sigh*, here we go again, I thought, but figured 'at least I didn't have to wait on an invite'. The phone was delivered yesterday afternoon. Less than 72 hours after placing my order, I got my phone in hand. Paid no shipping, no tax.
Totally different buying experience. Blown away. I feel like a parent must feel when they realize their baby is grown up. Almost brings a tear to my eye.
Moved all my crap over from the 2 and have been using the hell out of this thing and I can once again, honestly, say that I have fallen in love with my phone. It's my second love, the first being the oneplus one and now the 3. I have no qualms what so ever with this purchase. Awesome device. Just awesome, everything is as it should be. I have no plans to replace Oxygen or run a custom kernel. Though I have rooted it for using certain apps I can't live without. Adaway anyone?
I don't usually give any credence to these phone benchmark scores or ranks... but out of curiosity, I ran an antutu test and have attached the results. keep in mind, I'm totally stock. Rom, kernel, kernel settings like governor and thermal driver settings are all factory. I just don't see a need anymore, and that's a good thing.
Also, screens showing battery consumption so far. I use high accuracy location to share my whereabouts in real time with my family, that includes WiFi scanning enabled. Bluetooth is always on and connected to my Moto 360 2nd Gen watch, adaptive brightness enabled, vibration on touch and notification on, single Sim (t-mobile).
Anyways, that's my initial rant on things. Been around awhile, at least in oneplus years and right now I am happy as can be. This phone is a monster. Beautiful, sleek and cool on the outside, but down right vicious on the inside.
Don't be worried if your on the fence about getting one, it may not be 100% to 100% of everyone, but what is? You won't be disappointed.

how is the ram management for you op3 owners? and how is the display pentile pixel thingie?
some reported problems about ram management/pentile pixel issue, and OP replied quick that they will come with a new software update and fix those 2 issues.

(i am saving up for a 6p currently..) i could easily buy a MotoXPure as it is very cheap at 300$ , but it reminds me alot of my current phone lol.. so i rather want something more innovated.
While I like the device a lot I kinda miss the form factor and size of my nexus 5x. The s820 still has some stutter here and there that bothers me. Wish qualcomm could make a chip like the exynos cpus. Other than that ill hold onto it for awhile. At least until the next nexus comes.

Only had the phone 3 days, but it has the most cohesive feel of all the Android devices I've owned, not as featureless as my Nexus 7, not over the top like my older HTC/Samsung devices. Switched to Nova Launcher, then switched back to Pixel launcher because it felt a better fit.
I love it. But I'm having some buyer's remorse. I still give it an 8 out of 10. A 10 would have been better than my previous in most categories, even if marginally.
The Pixel is more expensive than my 6P. It's subjectively uglier than my gold finish all metal 6P. It has no front firing dual speakers. It's speakers aren't as good as the 6P's. It has no 64gb option as my 6P did. And I know people may slate me for this, the 6P had a better camera. By a big margin.
So why the high rating? Well, the Pixel feels better in the hand. This is primarily due to the size. The build seems more solid and more dense. The software feels more natural, although this is hard to quantify. The Pixel doesn't exhibit any throttling that my 6P did, which is a huge improvement. It just seems a more polished finish.
It has excellent EIS and I think the 6P should have been given this as it's just software magic, AFAIK. But it is what it is.
No nightmares in the battery department. Quite stable in fact. My 6P was starting to drain quicker than I liked.
Did I say it's the only viable smaller handset with top end hardware? I find it so liberating to be using a smaller powerhouse again.
Most of all, it's just very reliable and dependable.

I actually very much love this phone, I was expecting a lot to be hype, yet battery is good, cameras awesome see attached pics, and overall it's probably the best phone I owned in awhile, I was using an iPhone 5s, missed mu Android,. Operating system is fast and responsive and split screen multitasking is great especially with YouTube and chrome open

Im sorry but the 6P does not have a better camera. Coming from a 6P as well i agree with some of your viewpoints but the camera isn't a valid arguement. While the 6P camera is good its not at the level of the pixel.
I've used android phones, I've used iPhones. If this is what Google has to offer with its first Pixel phone I'm excited for Pixel 2 already. The camera rocks, love the quality of photos, the UI is intuitive and fast. Opening apps feels instant for me at least no delay. Have yet to see the device slow down. Almost elliminates the need to shy away from stock one can be hopeful that Verizon doesn't end up blocking depixel8 otherwise I may end up unlocking the bootloader if I see they do.
I use an Android and iPhone handset concurrently for work-related reasons. The Pixel is great, and compares very favorably with the iPhone.
Battery: I used to run all intensive apps like Waze and streaming audio through the iPhone, now I don't fear running them on the Android.
App switching: You know when you're chatting with someone and you look something up to further your discussion along? The Overview button double-tap for switching back and forth is so great.
Fingerprint reader: Is faster than the iPhone 6.
You can probably get a nearly identical experience with a Xiaomi or Oneplus phone without spending $650+. I remember even seeing one of the new Xiaomi flagships featuring the same camera sensor. But I hoped that the Pixel being was it is, it'll be a more bug-free experience.
I bought this phone expecting to not like it and sell it in a few weeks. It doesn't have an sd card slot or a removable battery. That's a pretty big deal to me. But I got the 128gb and started allowing Google to back up my pics. I can go 16 hours on the battery with 4 hours SOT. That's exponentially better than my MXP or pretty much any other phone I've used. I have grandfathered unlimited on Verizon so my choices are slim if I want root. Everything about this phone works very well. It's super quick and feels good in the hand. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with it.

I adore this phone. By far my favorite phone I've owned (S3, EVO 4G, EVO 4G LTE, HTC M8, Galaxy Note 5, Samsung Fireball, LG V20, LG V10). The experience has been unparalleled for me.
It's a great phone, but not worth the price tag that comes with it.
I would consider this to be the "photographer's phone." It has a great camera and amazing EIS. As well as unlimited original photo hosting on Google Photos.
Did I mention it has UNLIMITED, ORIGINAL photo hosting on Google Photos?
Don't get me wrong, there could be better cameras out there, but you just can't beat that perk of having a Pixel.
As a long time samsung owner, this device is a breath of fresh air. If it were more water resistant, and had wireless charging, it'd be a perfect 10.

i searched little bit and it seems ok but i want to ask from real life power users?
ease of rooting and number of custom roms & mods
So I got my Pixel right before Christmas and switched from VZW to Project Fi at the same time. Mostly love the phone (and the service) and my minor complaints are all due to me being so used to my old Moto X '14. I really liked some of the Moto "tweaks" such as the twist camera and flashlight "chop". The camera on the Pixel is great but I really miss being able to take a picture by just touching the screen. Like I said, most of my complaints are really minor and consist of small missing software features. My only major complaint would be the sound of the speakers, they are too quiet which I really don't understand because when you strap the Pixel into a Daydream headset the sound is suddenly great. Battery life is fantastic. As for rooting/romming I'm still in the honeymoon phase where I haven't felt the need for either.

Power user here. Previously owned a Galaxy Note 5 and 7. I got the 128GB because I like to store lots of high-quality music files and 4K film. The auto backup photo/video feature is tremendous.
If you're on a normal Pixel (non-Verizon), rooting is a joke. Very simple. Custom ROMs are awesome - PureNexus is amazing and so are OctOS and RR. Not a ton of options but they've got everything you need. Dirty Unicorns is available too (no Slim ROM, sadly).

Actually, with Tasker, you could probably make the twist camera thing fairly easily. Probably don't need root for that, either.

Upgraded to a 128gb unit in December from a HTC ONE M8 and love almost everything about it.
Seriously, the difference in cameras is just amazing. I've got a big family and we all use different phones, and going from one of the worst cameras to the best camera is absolutely incredible. It runs fast, I can play PSP games on it. The rapid charge? 15% to full in an hour?! seriously, just amazed.
I have 2 complaints, the speaker is just terrible in comparison to the M8 (best sounding phone I've ever used) and how I hold my phone in my right hand with my pinky on the bottom to keep it from slipping it just mutes it. Second complaint is location services just kill my battery. When my M8 was new, I once got 3 days on a full charge, with the Pixel I'm resembling those iPhone wallhuggers everyone likes to joke about.

Battery life is much better than comparable Androids devices. I've never had such great battery life, honestly. Interestingly, I had an M8 for a year and did NOT get close to 3 days (not even 2). Coming from an LG V20, V10, Note 5 and Note 7 (and watching my wife's S7), this battery life is tremendous. I literally don't ever pay attention to battery anymore. I go to bed with 30-50% usually. I just charge overnight (why not?) to be safe.
But yes, the sound of M8 was unparalleled. Why they quit on that feature I'll never understand.
Overall I am pretty happy with the Pixel. I don't like large phones so i am glad Google offered a smaller version. I used to have the Nexus 5x (still do) but the Pixel has been lag free. Anyone who has been using Google's devices long enough knows the thing starts to lag and the only thing to get rid of it is to totally format every so often. This has been running great so far so I am happy.
One thing I hope Google does not do is eventually become like Samsung or Apple where they totally lock down the device. The price point was already bad enough, but if the attempt to become mainstream to the point where the phone cannot be customized I will be very unhappy.
If they want to sell their product as "Pure Android", that should include customization outside of their OWN OS. Locking things down is no better than Apple or Samsung.
After reading thread after thread about this phone on this forum, I almost get the sense that people don't like it as much as they had hoped they would. The forum seems chock full of complaining (I know, that's normal), defect threads galore, and generally unpleasant comments (camera sucks, freezing in software, etc.). As someone waiting for theirs to arrive, it's not the best feeling to read all this. SO! I was wondering if you all would share your overall feelings on the phone, regardless of how long you've owned it.

I'm coming from an LG V20 and phone jealousy lead to me purchasing this. I hope I no longer am jealous of anyone's phone.
Well I am using the phone for 8-9 days now and my impression is positive. My gripes are two mainly, one there is no Xposed for 7.1.1, so I can't use Gravity Box and disable the on screen buttons, and secondly the design overall, but I knew that before buying. The huge bezels I could never like, power and volume buttons at same side, which I don't like, the back glass part, no comments about, wish I could break it myself LOL. But that's it. Other than these I love the phone. Of course the best Android I ever owned. The smoothness all over the software is incredible. But yes, yesterday I did notice a very bad stuttering while I was scrolling down my WhatsApp contacts list, something to do with cache I suppose, not sure, but it did happen, and that's not the only place either, I noticed frame drops on other apps too, can't remember though, nothing which has made me think to sell off the phone or anything but definitely there. But the incredible overall smoothness, excellent camera, considering a non-Samsung a very good display, fantastic call quality, very good loudspeaker (yeah its good regardless of what reviews say), I really don't know what more could I have expected, other than a compact design anyway.
Go for it. I am running the phone naked without a case for now and no problem yet, no colour chipping on the frame or anything, no scratches on the back glass part either but about time I put on a case.

After reading reviews on the Pixel XL, and hearing how good the performance and camera were, I decided to make the switch. The screen size difference is minimal, and I like that the XL isn't quite as wide as the 6p. I do miss the Dual speakers, but with WETA volume isn't a problem. The everyday performance of the Pixel is superior to the 6p. Everything runs smoothly and fluidly. The camera is excellent. I've never seen pictures so good from a phone. It seems to me that it's just as good as any point and shoot camera. Now onto development. Granted, there isn't a whole lot yet, but I'm sure the dam is going to burst soon. The dual slots open up a whole new world to us flashaholics, and I'm excited to see where it leads. Overall, I'm glad I got the Pixel, and I look forward for things to come.

You said it. This dual slot is a game changer. I just love tinkering with these slots, trying to get the best combination of ROM, kernel, and settings in each slot to make this battery go as far as it can. That's my goal in life, to make a damn cell phone last 2.5 days like my Sony Z3 used to.

Thanks for the detailed response! I'm really excited to see what this thing can do, in terms of the powerful software. I always long for the smoothest experience, cutting edge software, and best camera I can get. That's what drew me to this phone. Plus I really love Google products, so this seemed ideal. Really happy to hear your point about the speaker - I've heard so many negatives!

Do you happen to have moving targets you take photos of? I have two little kids and I cannot get good shots indoors with my LG V20. Really hoping this one is better. My wife's S7 takes much better pictures. I'm hoping this is as good as, or better, than that.
I don't know anything about these dual slots. I'm going to have to look into this! Is there a thread about this so I can read up on it?

I think part of the problem is the people who are having issues will always be the loudest, even though those people probably reside in the minority of those who've purchased the phone. Speaking for myself and all the people I've run into in person with the device, I have relatively no complaints. The performance is blazing fast and the phone has a great feel due to HTC's top-notch manufacturing. My only complaint has been the camera. I've come to realize that I was expecting a substantial jump in quality over my previous device, which was an iPhone 6+. Wile the quality is great, in reality this is just a smart phone camera. If I want high quality photos, I'm still going to keep my Sony RX100m3 with me if I remotely think I'll want a great shot. In the meantime and if I don't have my Sony, "the best camera is the one you have on you," and it definitely doesn't disappoint, it's just not a big leap for smart phone photography as I thought it would be. Hope my thoughts help, I would be very excited to have the device if I were you. After many Android devices and an iPhone, this is the best smart phone experience I've had.
It's a really good phone. I'm personally going back to the S7 Edge because I'm pretty disappointed in the camera but I knew some people really like the camera.

I do miss my Note 7 camera and all the functionality. People also say this is the fastest shooter but with the most useful shooting mode I have to still wait for the hdr+ affect when trying to view immediately after taking the photo.

Yeah I noticed that in the Verizon store while testing that while you can take several shots consecutively (as reviews have stated) with no lag, there is lag waiting for the shots to be able to be viewed. That'll take some getting used to.
Coming from a Nexus 6P and host of other Android phones in the past, this is by far the best phone EXPERIENCE I've had. I've liked the design on the 6P better along with stereo speakers, and there are other phones with more features and hardware out of the box, but when you put together the Android experience of the Pixel XL along with the performance, camera and battery life, you just can't beat it.
Now, I really do hate the fact that a phone at this price doesn't have the water resistance of the flagship at this price point but that's a minor gripe. The camera (the speed of it is a lifesaver when you have a infant around the house) is better than I expected. My wife just got herself an iphone 7+ and this camera blows it out of the water.

I have a pixel and I came from an s5. I just love to have new stuff to mess with and I never got to use a nexus device and it would be fun because of how much h development there is for it! Maybe we could figure out a trade for something of mine!

Couldn't agree more with you. This device is by far the best I ever had. Pure stock was amazing right out of the box but now with MVK kernel it's just unbelievable.
I have every Nexus device, most recently the N6P. The pixel is better in my eyes, alone the battery is around worlds better. Speed of the device it top, processing top, did not regret the purchase.
I love it Ive had it for about two months now. The phone is top notch hardware wise, but it's the software that makes it shine. I can't tell you how awesome Google assistant is, I find myself regularly using it to make my life easier. "Take me home" after it learns your voice the recognition is spot on. The live translation is pretty awesome too. Multitasking is great, the double tap to back is seamless. Battery last all day which is ridiculous considering I use it to play NDS games when I have time to myself. I mean really it's an all around awesome phone. My uncle also bought one and he told me he's never really been to excited about a phone but this one has so many nicities woven throughout the experience that he just fell in love. I'm weary to trust reddit threads and bug threads not just out of Google fan boy love, but for any product. You will find the same discontent threads on the iPhone as well because other entities influence the media to try to tank eachother. I mean reviews are important but there is problems some people are having with the phone, but I can't help wonder if it's not being blown out of proportion
Had the 6p for little while and it would be random reboots even after updating and factory reset. Maybe related to the thermal throttling? Phone never got warm so I don't know. Pixel has been much stabler and using it has been very fluid. My biggest gripe is that my gesture typing doesn't seem as accurate compared to when I used the 6p or the nexus 6. I'm not sure if it's because of the smaller screen. I'm getting better but can't figure out why this is. Would I buy it again? I probably would. The camera is quick and more than adequate.

Just wanted to see if anyone is thinking of switching to another phone because of the screen issues? I just got mine and it has a lot of grain and a much more noticeable blue tint compared to demo units I saw. It's not something I can un-notice.

Not switching phones here. I don't notice the grain at all, and I've gotten used to the blue tint at an angle. Looking head-on I don't have an issue.

Nope, so far this phone is fast, great battery life and I actually have no issue with the screen. Looks great to me, no burn in.. No issues with the speakers. Basically nothing that was being reported is affecting me at all. Great Phone just wish I had gone with Google version of the phone instead of the locked Verizon version but development is still pretty non existent at this point so I'm not missing much I suppose.
still loving this phone - literally the only thing i wish it had was faster charging (had a oneplus prior to this), which is already kind of silly given the amazing battery life due to the larger battery
Not a chance of returning. Phone is amazing. Best battery life of any device I've owned. Now that twrp is official, development will follow soon. Cant wait for some pure pixel!
Before 8.1 I had regrets as I was having lots of random reboots but now the phone is perfect for me. No screen issues and great camera and battery life.
Your 1st post... welcome to XDA. Screen is not an issue for most on 8.1!
What devices have you had for comparison? Are you on 8.1?
Love this phone. There is no chance I would swap this phone. Best phone I have ever had.
Love this phone, have it for few days now. Miss some features of the Note 8 though like the awesome screen, game launcher and some camera options but its a compromise for fast updates and blazing fast performance.
I like the phone but I do see it slows down a little. Not as much as Samsung device but I sure feel it.
Just patiently waiting for some good ROMs.

I am going to test out the U11+. Unfortunately after 8.1 my battery sucks and just using that as an excuse to swap phones. 8.0 battery was excellent, hopefully they fix that asap for those affected.
I am having random reboots on 8.1 so something seems to be weird. Other than that the phone is quite good.
I'm sure I'll get plenty of people pulling out their pitch-forks...
However, I'm seriously considering making the switch to the iPhone X. Now that it's readily available and many of my friends/family have one, I've had the ability to get my hands on it many times now and I really love the overall feel of the phone. When comparing my Pixel 2 XL with the iPhone X side by side, the difference in screen quality is night and day. It really does put the Pixel 2 XL screen to shame. It's not a subtle difference, by any means. Compared to the iPhone X, my 2XL's screen just looks cheap and washed out, even with Saturated mode enabled.
I'm finding that I really love the fluidity of IOS 11, as well. Although, I'm still not a huge fan of the obnoxiously large icons and lack of home screen customization. But I'm starting to think I can look past all that. Sadly, comparing the two phones side by side makes me realize I truly got sub-par quality with my ~$900 2 XL and it is seriously making me consider selling it while resale value is still high and making the switch.
Oh, and coming from the Galaxy S8 & LG V30, I have found that I truly miss the convenience of wireless charging. So it would be nice to go back to having a wireless charger on my night stand and another on the desk in my home office. With that setup I always had a charged phone and never even pulled the OEM USB-C charger from the original packaging. Wireless charging is truly liberating and I would love to have that back.

With my experience with the screen, I was just thinking of moving down to the Pixel 2. I just wanted to see what other people thought. I just see if I go with an RMA I run the risk of getting an even worse device.
I love the phone for the most part. The screen is meh to me. I'll walk in to an electronics store and compare the screen to some other flagship with oleds like the galaxy S8/S8+, Note 8, Iphone X, the smaller Pixel 2 and even the LG V30. They all tend to have smoother/brighter whites, like they look less blotchy. I've managed to make my screen look quite a bit better with KCAL but even then I still wish it was just a samsung panel instead. I looked at the essential phone on display the other day and goddamn the build quality on that thing is amazing. It takes that whole "fancy" feeling of the Iphone X to a whole new level. Was seriously considering it since its only $500 right now. But at the end of the day I just can't give up the software and quick updates on the Pixel 2XL, even if it means settling with a so so screen.

If you don't mind the size difference and this screen bothers you go for the Pixel 2. The screen is much better on that one.

Pitch forks! Nah..it's your money bro, get what you like. I played with my brother in laws iX. It has a great screen, superb build quality, great camera, and is smooth as silk for sure. However....that NOTCH, gesture control, and zero buttons anywhere just isn't my cup of tea. But again, it's your money, you don't owe anyone an explanation, so get what you like, be happy, Merry Christmas, and live long and prosper :good::good:
Love this phone better than mate 9 or Nexus 6p. Or iPhone 7s that I briefly tried. Better battery life and overall experience.

My screen fares well against my wife's pixel 2 to be honest. The screen could be better but I prefer over the OnePlus 5t screen in some ways
