[Guideline] Change DNS for Lumia 950 vs Lumia 950 XL - Windows 10 Mobile

Hello everybody,
After im using lumia 950, and this device can't change DNS (Static IP not enable).
But i have anotherto enable it.
Step 1: Enable "Developer mode"
- "Device Portal": Turn on Remote diagnostics
- Get IP below Wi-Fi (ex: 192.158.1.25)
Step 2: Open Microsoft EDGE
- Enter IP you get on step 1 to dress bar
- Go to "Networking"
Now you can see all information of wifi you connect
Step 3:
- In the Right of page, you can see: List button "IPv4 Configuration", click to the first button of list
- Board setting "Internet Protocol Version 4" will be Expland.
Now you can config DNS server like PC :good:

finally, cellular data under control, now it would be nice if the settings for wifi werent applied on a ssid by ssid basis, as in, if they could stick until changed again by the user just like on w10 proper, instead it just sticks to the current connection profile

I wonder if it should be possible to write a batch script to do this...or once we are able to jailbreak to change it in a custom rom? I have never wanted to change the dns on wifi though.
@nvcuong1312,
This might be a useful post for me. Thanks.

Grande!
Thank you, I solved a big problem!

Unable to connect Wireless Lan when phone signal is weak?

Hi,
I'm experiencing a weird problem and please let me know if it's only my problem or there is some work around for it.
My phone is SX66 upgraded to 1.40 ROM + 1.13 Radio stack
I can connect Wifi fine whenever I have some phone signal (at work). Whenever I go home where the phone signal is weak then the WIFI couldn't get connected (I believe I set up my home network correctly as I've been using it for so long and configure it for several computer/laptop in house). The network could detect the AP with the SSID but I just couldn't connect to it even I'm sitting right next to the AP.
ROM 1.40
Radio: 1.13

Are you sure it isn't connecting? What has led you to this conclusion?
Is it possible that it is connecting, but that you just can't browse the internet, in which case check your connection proxy settings. If your work uses a proxy server and you've enabled the pass-through setting in ActiveSync, your network connection may be configured with your work proxy server.
If you're sure you're just not connecting however, things to check are;
WEP/WPA Encryption - If you're using it and have other wireless devices on your network, you no doubt know what to do. If not, say so & I can help you.
DHCP - Does your router/AP support Auto-IP Addressing? Is it enabled? If not, you'll have to configure the WiFi card with a static IP within the same subnet as your router. Ask if you need help.
MAC Filtering - Are you blocking unauthorised MAC Addresses (on your router/ap)?
Interference - Wireless A/V Senders and digital cordless phones are common culprits for RFI. 802.11x APs support multiple channels (most default to channel 11), and you can change these in case of interference. Once again, if you have other WiFi gear already connected with good, strong signals, you can probably discount this one.
Sorry if this is all elementary to you - I don't know how technical you are.
Thanks for your reply.
> Are you sure it isn't connecting? What has led you to this conclusion?
Yes, I've check wireless status on the phone. "Connected to the network", and the AP with DHCP on showed the status of an IP has been allocate to the SX66 mac address. However I dont' really believe it then I check the "Adater", it said network available, and the WIFI icon just didnot show any traffic.
> Is it possible that it is connecting, but that you just can't browse the internet, in which case check your connection proxy settings. If your work uses a proxy server and you've enabled the pass-through setting in ActiveSync, your network connection may be configured with your work proxy server.
I've experience once with the internet connection via Active Sync so I disable the passthrough. Both home and work doesn't have proxy server so I selected not to have any on the phone.
> WEP/WPA Encryption - If you're using it and have other wireless devices on your network, you no doubt know what to do. If not, say so & I can help you.
At work, I have 128 WEP and the connection works fine with the key. At home, I open my network but using MAC filtering to protect it. I have problem with the open network one at home. Perhaps, I will try to setup WEP at home and see if it can work.
The only thing I'm not really clear is the difference between setting "WPA" and "WPA-PSK" from the phone.
> DHCP - Does your router/AP support Auto-IP Addressing? Is it enabled? If not, you'll have to configure the WiFi card with a static IP within the same subnet as your router. Ask if you need help.
Yes, DHCP enable as I don't want to change it back and forth when traveling.
> MAC Filtering - Are you blocking unauthorised MAC Addresses (on your router/ap)?
I do it and I already opened the network and then captured the MAC address into the AP memory. (that's why I think it's connected but will check).
> Interference -
Not really, I'm 6' away from the AP and I don't have any cordless device in my computer room.
> Sorry if this is all elementary to you - I don't know how technical you
are.
No problem, I'd like to learn more about this PDA. The concept is about the same with PC, but the tools to debug is not there. I can't use tracert/traceroute, ifconfig or ping broadcast to really know if I'm the network.
Once again, thanks a lot.
Okay, well it sounds like you're on the right track & know what you're doing.
A useful troubleshooting tool, which gives you tracert, ping, whios, ipconfig and a host of other tools is "vxUtil", which is freeware. I'd give you a URL for downloading it, but I'm on my iMate now (sipping coffee by the Yarra in a Melbourne Cafe - oh what a techno-wanker am I!), but search these forums or Google it and you'll find it.
Now, regarding the proxy thing... These PPCs are a little tricky with their internet settings, and I had to create a different 'connect using...' connection profile, if that makes sense. The important setting within the profile, which is under the Proxy tab, from memory, is "This network connects to the internet".
Now for some reason, if you don't enter in a proxy server here, that check-box doesn't stay checked when you ok your way out. So what I've had to do is go into the advanced area & enter anything in the "wap" proxy, then ok out.
Strange, but it seems to work. Although I always leave my "Private network" on "My Work Network", I can now browse the 'Net through the WiFi AP/Router.
Download vxUtil & see if you can ping your AP, then go from there.
I've worked around the problem by using static IP address instead of depending on DHCP. Thanks to Hitchhiker software. I noticed that it was trying to obtain IP address from DHCP but failed. (The very same DHCP work wells for the rest of my network). Anyway, I will use Hitchhiker to switch IP back and forth if necessary.
Thanks a lot!
MDD
Great to hear you found the problem - well done.

Connecting with WPA2-PSK[AES] in WM6

I have a t-mobile Dash. I'm trying to connect to my home router/AP using WPA2-PSK. I've double-checked my network key and other settings, but I can't seem to get it to connect. Here are my settings:
Network name: GTHOME <- matches my router's broadcast SSID
Network type: Internet
Not a hidden network
Not an ad-hoc connection
Authentication: WPA2-PSK
Data encryption: AES
The key is not automatically provided
Network key: (matches my router's key)
Key index: 1
Does not user IEEE 802.1x network access control. (I've tried it both ways, with PEAP
On trying to connect, my Dash give this message:
"Cannot connect to the network. Check your network and service provider settings and try again."
The AP is a Netgear WPN824 v2 with the latest firmware. Any suggestions?
TIA
Try using a 9 letter word for your key.
I had an 8 letter key before. I tried 9 - no luck. What's magic about 9?

Guy, do you have a Mac Adddress Filter area on your router?Open your router so no key is required to make a connection and after you establish a connection use the WEP or WPA2-PSK key option! Can you find your Mac address and your Phone's Ip address on your router. You can find this info on your phone also in Comm Manager> setting> Wifi> Connection Status area. There is a place on your router to put this info, so that the router will know that its ok to connect to this device with this info, I believe its in the advance area on your router and use the 10 key WEP if possible!
Install NetWorkMagic To You System
Go to http://www.networkmagic.com and install the trail version on your PC. Networkmagic will tell you if your system is setup correctly or if their is some kind of problem. Use the network map, this will give you a good ideal of whats going down on your system......! If you cannot see your phone on the network map, then Houston, we got a problem...........!But we will fix it! Happy Thanksgiving!

Yep 8 is secure enough. try again without any caps or numbers. e.g. give aaaaaaaa a try
And see that error you mention, that looks like the one IE gives. What happens when you press connect in the wifi list?
I found that having any character other than a-z, 0-9 would cause the dash to fail to connect even though pc's and laptops had no problems. My initial key contained a "-" and "$"-- it drove me crazy trying to figure out the problem until I realized only the dash couldn't connect.

Thanks for the suggestions. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday
I double-checked the MAC address filter - it's turned off.
I was able to connect with Open Authentication and WEP Data encryption, and if I disable security altogether. Neither of these options is satisfactory.
I also tried 'aaaaaaaa' as the key. It doesn't work in either WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK with TKIP or AES encryption.
The warning I get when I press the connect key in the wi-fi list is -
"Cannot connect to the network. Check your network and service provider settings and try again."
Make sure the Key Index on the phone matches the Key Rotation on the router.

I don't think I'm using Key Rotation. Isn't that just for WEP? And, only if you have a RADIUS server? I just have a simple home network, nothing fancy.
I have a basic USRobotics router and it supports key rotation for WPA2. I had it set to 0 (meaning off), however there was no equivalent setting on my S621. The S621 could only be set at 1,2,3,or 4. When I set both the S621 and the router to the same number (in my case 4) I was able to connect.
My netgear doesn't have a place to set key rotation. I tried each key order (1 - 4) on the phone - no luck.
I even tried installing the evaluation version of CommView for WiFi (http://www.tamos.com/products/commwifi/) so I could see what each device is doing. But, I don't have a compatible adapter.
Your Router's IP Address Is 192.168.1.1 Not 192.168.0.1

For your router with IP address 192.168.1.1 with the WPA encryption, turn on the MAC address Filter and install the phone's MAC address in the router in the appropriate area, save settings (soft reset)! Now your phone will now be able to connect to your network via wifi.........!
Well, it's working now in WPA-PSK(TKIP) mode. Here are the changes I made:
I installed a new battery (my Dash started dying every time I turned on wireless while on the battery).
I removed a network called "Free Public Wireless." The Dash would try to connect to this network when it failed to authenticate on my encrypted network.
I suspect the "Free Public Wireless" network was interfering with the login to my home network. I'm just happy that it's working.
Hi, all,
I have the same problem:-
"Cannot connect tot the network. Check your network and service provider settings and try again."
After some troubleshooting, I found that this problem will go away when I set some IP address in the network adapter.
I have confirmed that my password (network key) is correct and my MAC filter are also correct.
The only changes that I can think of is that I went to US last week and connected using hotels' wireless access. No IP settings were done during the connection.
Please let me know if anyone has any idea on how to solve this problem.
Many thanks in advance.
Joe

USB tethering with MAC pro works.

I am able to tether my mac to what should be any windows mobile device (I currently have a tytn/hermes) using syncmate 1.4.0350 and ics control v0.21. in fact I am listening to a stream from DI.FM pro and typing this. If there is interest I'll write it up.
Basically you have to set the IP info for WM driver manually b/c no default route is normally set.
Please tell us about it!
That would be great. I'm tethering off of bluetooth, but I think off USB would be faster. I have to be plugged in with USB anyway so I don't kill my battery with the BT so might as well tether through that if possible.
Mac USB Tethering
I would greatly appreciate it if you could post your Mac USB tethering solution. Thanks!
awesome!! i've been trying ot figure it out forever. please do post detail instructions.
thanks mate
Full instructions
This is how I got it to work with SyncMate 2.0, ICS Control 0.21, Leopard 10.5.6 and Windows Mobile 6.1.
On the mac, in System Prefs > Network:
1. Click 'Windows Mobile Device' (should be listed - if not see bottom of post).
2. It should already say:
• Configure: Using DHCP with manual address
• IP Address: 169.254.2.2
3. If it doesn't, fill this in. Click Apply.
On the Windows Mobile:
4. Go to Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC.
5. Tick 'Enable advanced network functionality'.
6. Open ISC Control (ICSControl.exe).
7. Scroll down and click 'Set all defaults' at the bottom.
8. Set these settings:
• Public Interface: Cellular (Cellular 1) or Wif-Fi (has a W in the name, mine is TIACXWLN1)
• Private Interface: RNDISFN1
• Set private IP: Ticked, 169.254.2.1
• Auto Connect to Network: Ticked, 'T-Mobile Internet' or whatever you use (I think this only applies for cellular connections).
9. Click 'Start ICS'.
10. If your phone is not already connected to the internet, start the Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G data connection and wait for it to connect.
11. Plug in the USB cable.
That's It! You should be connected to the internet after about 20 seconds.
(SyncMate may load during this time - ignore it).
Troubleshooting tips:
If it doesn't work after 30 seconds, try this:
On the Mac, in System Prefs > Network:
1. Create a new location.
• Windows Mobile Device should be listed. If not, run SyncMate once (with the driver enabled on WM device) and plug in your device. Set it up if it asks you to.
2. Set the Service Order (in Leopard it's in the menu available from the button with the gear icon, at the bottom of the list). Drag the connections into order so that your Windows Mobile Device is above any other enabled adapters (even if they are not connected to the internet).
3. Click OK then Apply.
4. Make sure there is an address written next to 'Router'. If not, enter these settings:
• Configure: Manually.
• IP address: 169.254.2.2
• Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
• Router: 169.254.2.1
• DNS Server: 169.254.2.1
5. Click Apply.
6. Unplug USB, Stop & Start ICS, then plug in again.
(If this works for you, after having used the settings like this once, you may be able to go back to using the network settings as listed above.)
If you have done this and it still doesn't work:
On the phone go to Start > Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi > Network Adapters
1. Tap Remote-NDIS Host.
2. Choose 'Use specified IP address' and enter:
• IP address: 169.254.2.1
• Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
• Default gateway: blank
3. Restart the phone (may be optional)
4. Start ICS Control
5. Go to the DNS tab & delete all the DNS entries.
6. Hit Start ICS then plug in the USB.
NB If you change settings on ICS Control (such as Public interface) while connected: Click Stop ICS, then Start ICS.
If you still can't get a connection, try this:
1. On the phone, quit the SyncMate driver (from the today page).
2. Quit the Activesync app (from the task manager).
3. Stop & Start ICS.
Notes:
• After setting this up, in the future all you need to do is load ICSControl, hit 'Start ICS' and then plug in.
• If you want to, you can quit ICSControl after clicking 'Start ICS' and plugging in.
• The SyncMate driver and ActiveSync app are both automatically loaded when plugging in the USB but you can quit both of these after loading, for improved response from the phone. SyncMate on the Mac is also loaded, and of course you can quit this too after it loads.
• NB - SyncMate driver can be a resource hog so it makes sense to quit it whenever you can
can ATT charge extra when we do this? I remember a while ago, if you used ISP.CINGULAR you WILL be charged, but if you use WAP.CINGULAR you wont be charged?
Can someone that has access to their bill check? I will be traveling, using international roaming if i add a "tether" rate, i'd be dead.
I cannot check because i do not have access to my account (it's a corp account).
Thanks!
Works great!
Hi!
I have just tried it with my Xperia X1i and it works great! I´m soo happy
Thank you!
robrecord, thanks a lot!! this will sure come in handy, couldn't find this information anywhere else
Also works fine in Snow Leopard
@robrecord: Thanks for these instructions! It just works great. Using an HTC Touch HD and Snow Leopard, I can finally tether over USB on OSX.
I apologize for bumping an old thread but wanted to say thanks to the OP for this guide. Worked flawlessly on my Hackintosh 10.6.6.
There is just one modification I had to make to make it work. I used the IP addresses...
192.168.1.1 (on the Desktop) and
192.168.1.2 (on the WM Device).
Connected to the internet using my HTC Touch Find with WM 6.1.

[GUIDE] Ad-HOC Internet Sharing On MIUI (SGS i9000)- WORKING - Windows 7

Well, people , was trying to Share my laptops Broadband connection with my sgs running MIUI 1.7.8 but couldnt get to to work. The phone just used to get stuck at "Obtaining ip address". Using Connectify didnt help me, so i had to manually configure the connections.
Here is a complete tutorial for connecting to the adhoc network to get it working.
Setting up the connection:
1) Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
2) Go to Change Adapter Settings
3) Find the adapter for the default internet connection (it was a PPPOE in my case, it is the connection u use to connect to the internet.)
4) Right click on that -> Cancel as Default Connection
4) Right click -> Properties -> Sharing tab
5) Uncheck "Allow other network users to connect ..." if it is not
6) Right-Click the Correct Wireless Network Connection > Properties > "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" in Windows Vista / Only "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" in Windows 2000 and XP > Properties
7) Choose "Use the following IP address:" and enter the following
IP address : 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
Setting Up The Network :
1) Open Network and Sharing Center.
2) Under Change your networking settings, click Set up a new connection or network.
3) Select Set up a wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network
4) Enter your Network name, and enter a Security key if wanted (Use WEP over here, WPA doesnt seem to work.)
5) Check the box for Save this network and click Turn on Internet connection sharing on next page.
Configuring the Phone :
1) Now on the android, go to Settings -> Wi-Fi Settings -> Advanced.
2) In IP settings, turn on use static IP.
3) Give The settings as follows :
IP address : 192.168.0.2
Gateway : 192.168.0.1
Netmask : 255.255.255.0
DNS 1 : 192.168.0.1
4) Now turn of Use Static IP. Dont worry, the settings will remain as they are.
5) Now Go back and connect to the adhoc network you created above, give the password and it will try to connect to it.
6)At this point, you will see Obtaining IP address, now go into advanced again and enable use static ip. Voila! you are connected to the network.
Well, if you're using Windows 7, there is no need for ad-hoc networks
Windows 7 has a built-in support for wireless hotspots, but unfortunatly Microsoft didn't implement a control panel for that.
There is a freeware called connectify, it will turn your Windows7 Computer with a wireless card into a real hot spot, no ad hoc needed:
http://www.connectify.me/
I couldnt get connectify to work either. But I found a much better (lightweight and simple) program which worked for me called "virtual router manager". Works a charm every time

well, observed thks thing... for connecting to wifi everytime we need to turn of use static ip, then turn on wifi and wait for obtaing ip address message and after it is shown, go to advanced and switch on us sttic ip... this does the trick...
Connectify just keeps giving my system a damn BSOD...

Actually wireless AP mode was implemented in Windows 7 and therefore programs like connectify won't work on Vista or Xp.
Adhoc has been supported for much longer, but it is a completely different thing than wireless AP mode.
If you are running Windows 7, you should be able to use wireless AP mode. If programs like connectify somehow fail, you can always try enabling it manually.
If everything fails, upgrade your hardware.

I am using connectify on XP machine every day without any problems. But on windows 7x64 cannot manage to get ad hoc connection neither with connectify nor with virtual router or whatever it is called- I just get stuck at "obtaining ip"..
I used mhotspot today and worked well for my htc evo with mik3.0 and the KRAKD transformer
I wanted something like this so as to use the VPN service on the laptop..
and hook the other two devices through it..
(I am in China so need to hopthewall on my droid devices)
worked like a charm..

For Android users:100% working Internet via adhoc wifi network without any app!

This video shows you how to configure your laptop/pc and your android device to reverse tether Internet using wifi adhoc networks. It's working fine for me on my samsung galaxy gt-s5360 and i can download from google play ..
video : youtu.be/Mi2RAkPcNi4
or you can look for my channel on youtube adhoc327
----------------------------------------------------------------
Step by step wifi reverse tethering using adhoc networks :
Here i try to write down the steps shown on the video:
Step1 : Configuring laptop/pc :
1- First, you need to create an adhoc network:
Open network and sharing center on control panel
click on manage wireless networks then add , a windows is shown, select create an ad hoc network click on next then input a network name(for example name it 015) then choose the security type (you can select either open or WEP) then check the box save this network
2- now reopen network and sharing center on control panel then change adapter settings.
Right click on your internet network and click on properties then select the tab sharing and check the "allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection" (choose wireless network, if multiple networks are shown).
check also the "allow other network users to control or disable the shared internet connection"
next click on setting and check all items..
3- Right click on wireless network connection and double click on "internet protocol version 4(tcp/ipv4)"
on the new window select use the following ip address 192.168.137.1
and subnet mask 255.255.255.0
now activate your new adhoc network (if not already) go to the network icon next to the clock and select it and connect.
Congratulation your laptop/pc is now configured .
-----------------------------------------------
Step 2 : Configuring the android device :
Now, we will configure the android device to make it able to access this new adhoc network
Go to setting on the menu of your device
then wireless and networks then wi-fi settings then activate wi-fi .
Right click and choose advanced .
Check the "Use static IP"and fill in :
ip address: 192.168.137.5 (for example)
Gateway : 192.168.137.1
Netmask : 255.255.255.0
DNS 1: 192.168.137.1
DNS 2 : 172.168.137.1
then right click and save.
Finally, click on the adhoc network (and input password if you use WEP security) then connect.
And that's all ...enjoy internet with Google Play download supported...
If you encounter problems connecting ,try to disable then to reactivate wifi, else reboot your android device.

i think it's the same thing except that you can not download from Google Play

Ad-hoc networking
Ok, noob warning! Forgive me if this ain't the right place for this.
I'd like to set up an ad-hoc network between my HTC One S and my Macbook Pro. I have enabled the network on the Mac, but the phone does not seem to see it. Any chance of that happening without rooting? I'm too much of a noob to try that.
The purpose is to use my phone to browse my computer when a wifi network is unavailable. I'm not trying to tether for data.
Thanks!
good one
That's nice but the problem is that my galaxy young cannot detect the connection I've made in my laptop so what can I do now ??
Adhoc WIFI support for Android JellyBean
