I'm experiencing a weird problem and please let me know if it's only my problem or there is some work around for it.
My phone is SX66 upgraded to 1.40 ROM + 1.13 Radio stack
I can connect Wifi fine whenever I have some phone signal (at work). Whenever I go home where the phone signal is weak then the WIFI couldn't get connected (I believe I set up my home network correctly as I've been using it for so long and configure it for several computer/laptop in house). The network could detect the AP with the SSID but I just couldn't connect to it even I'm sitting right next to the AP.

Are you sure it isn't connecting? What has led you to this conclusion?
Is it possible that it is connecting, but that you just can't browse the internet, in which case check your connection proxy settings. If your work uses a proxy server and you've enabled the pass-through setting in ActiveSync, your network connection may be configured with your work proxy server.
If you're sure you're just not connecting however, things to check are;
WEP/WPA Encryption - If you're using it and have other wireless devices on your network, you no doubt know what to do. If not, say so & I can help you.
DHCP - Does your router/AP support Auto-IP Addressing? Is it enabled? If not, you'll have to configure the WiFi card with a static IP within the same subnet as your router. Ask if you need help.
MAC Filtering - Are you blocking unauthorised MAC Addresses (on your router/ap)?
Interference - Wireless A/V Senders and digital cordless phones are common culprits for RFI. 802.11x APs support multiple channels (most default to channel 11), and you can change these in case of interference. Once again, if you have other WiFi gear already connected with good, strong signals, you can probably discount this one.
Sorry if this is all elementary to you - I don't know how technical you are.

Yes, I've check wireless status on the phone. "Connected to the network", and the AP with DHCP on showed the status of an IP has been allocate to the SX66 mac address. However I dont' really believe it then I check the "Adater", it said network available, and the WIFI icon just didnot show any traffic.

I've experience once with the internet connection via Active Sync so I disable the passthrough. Both home and work doesn't have proxy server so I selected not to have any on the phone.

At work, I have 128 WEP and the connection works fine with the key. At home, I open my network but using MAC filtering to protect it. I have problem with the open network one at home. Perhaps, I will try to setup WEP at home and see if it can work.
The only thing I'm not really clear is the difference between setting "WPA" and "WPA-PSK" from the phone.

Yes, DHCP enable as I don't want to change it back and forth when traveling.

I do it and I already opened the network and then captured the MAC address into the AP memory. (that's why I think it's connected but will check).

No problem, I'd like to learn more about this PDA. The concept is about the same with PC, but the tools to debug is not there. I can't use tracert/traceroute, ifconfig or ping broadcast to really know if I'm the network.

Okay, well it sounds like you're on the right track & know what you're doing.
A useful troubleshooting tool, which gives you tracert, ping, whios, ipconfig and a host of other tools is "vxUtil", which is freeware. I'd give you a URL for downloading it, but I'm on my iMate now (sipping coffee by the Yarra in a Melbourne Cafe - oh what a techno-wanker am I!), but search these forums or Google it and you'll find it.
Now, regarding the proxy thing... These PPCs are a little tricky with their internet settings, and I had to create a different 'connect using...' connection profile, if that makes sense. The important setting within the profile, which is under the Proxy tab, from memory, is "This network connects to the internet".
Now for some reason, if you don't enter in a proxy server here, that check-box doesn't stay checked when you ok your way out. So what I've had to do is go into the advanced area & enter anything in the "wap" proxy, then ok out.
Strange, but it seems to work. Although I always leave my "Private network" on "My Work Network", I can now browse the 'Net through the WiFi AP/Router.
Download vxUtil & see if you can ping your AP, then go from there.
I've worked around the problem by using static IP address instead of depending on DHCP. Thanks to Hitchhiker software. I noticed that it was trying to obtain IP address from DHCP but failed. (The very same DHCP work wells for the rest of my network). Anyway, I will use Hitchhiker to switch IP back and forth if necessary.

im trying to get an internet connection through my wifi connection. i have done search's and lots of people seem to be asking the same question but nobody has the answer.
at the moment i can access my c: using an application called Resco explorer. but i can not connect to the internet. im not sure what setting i should have on the wifi manger and on my pc. im also using AOL as my isp.

I got mine working but setting my wireless network adapter to connect to "Work".
Under Settings>Connections>Tasks>Manage existing connections>Proxy Settings> check the "This network connects to the internet" box
then
Under Settings>Connections>Advanced>Select Networks> "Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using:" to "My Work Network" (and the same with one for private network)
Also in your active sync settings, make sure your connection settings allow network (Ethernet) and RAS connections.
From previous research around this, i'm pretty sure you can only use the internet pass through under "WORK" settings only.

Make sure you have "Enable Netbios over TCP/IP" checked in your TCP/IP Advanced settings.

Have you checked if you're getting an IP address from your Wireless Router's DHCP server? Also DNS settings and Gateway address should be there.
You can check this easily by using vxUtil (free )

Getting this error when I tried to allow my broadband connection to share with my wifi connection. If I unplug the wifi connection and try and share with another network I don’t get any errors.
Internet connection sharing (ics) cannot be enabled due to IP address conflict on the network. ICS requires the host be configured to use 192.168.0.1 please ensure that no other client on the network is configured to use 192.168.0.1
hmmm ... ever had the same problem. all devices are able to connect to the same router except mine sx66.
then i change the router's channel to '1' .. tada .. now everyone is connected. it might sounds silly, but it worked for me.
try changing your ap wireless channel.

i found the problem with activesync 3.8 and 4.0 somehow, so i reverted back to 3.7, now wifi can sync.
afaik, connecting to internet has nothing to do with activesync. its a direct connection to wifi router. use work location and check the proxy settings if u hv any? (at home i use connect to internet without proxy, at work i use connect to internet with proxy).
Also, for Activsync with wifi, make sure that the WINS server address is that of yr PC u want to sync with.
I had been successfully tethering via Bluetooth with WM6's Internet Sharing function, and was doing so in XP. Well we just took the Vista plunge and I'm having an issue. The Network Connections is showing my BT connection as "Local Only" meaning I can browse other pc's on the network, but I can't get to the internet. My WiFi connection to my router connects to the internet with no problem (The Wireless Connection shows "Local & Internet Access."
So I can not get out to the internet using my Tytn as my connection. I used the "Diagnose Problem" function in Vista, and it tells me that it cannot ping IP address 192.168.0.1. This is the IP address of my router. I don't want it to try to hit that IP address, but I can't find a way to tell it NOT to. All the settings in TCP/IP protocol are set to obtain an IP address automatically. But it seems that even while using BT as the connection, it still wants to get to my router first, even though I'm not using my WiFi at all. I even tried disabling the WiFi connection. Still the same issue.
Does anyone know what I can do to get the pc to stop trying to get my router first?

Tell me about it! It took me an age to find some drivers that worked with my bluetooth, I ended up using the Toshiba stack. After a lot of fiddling I got it working but when it runs it is very hit and miss and I have yet to transfer anything between devices let alone surf the net! Have you tried the bluetooth set up wizard?

The internet sharing function on the TyTn used 192.168.0.1
You are saying that your router is also using the same address range.
That is a no-no. Change the router address to 192.168.1.1, and I think you will see better results.
@boz - Actually I have no issues connecting to Vista via Bluetooth, and all profiles work great (I'm using the latest Broadcomm stack). My issue is in my Network Connections, not BT itself.
@Wildbill - the Tytn is not using 192.168.0.1. The PC is trying to ping that IP address because it is the address of my wireless router, and the first time I ever accessed the net with that pc, I did so via WiFi through my wireless router at home. Now, what I am trying to do though is get on the internet in my car, while nowhere near my wireless router. But my pc still seems to want to get to my router as though I'm trying to connect to the net via Wifi, when I'm actually just trying to get to it through my phone. The PC connects to the phone with no problem, and the phone is connected to the internet, But, my problem is that I can't figure out how to tell my pc to NOT look for my wireless router's IP address first.
BT DUN was so much easier with Cingular. I wish one of the cooks could figure out how to get the DUN profile back into WM6's BT stack.
I am really confused here.
When you use Internet Sharing on the TyTn, You are using the Tytn to allow other devices to access the Internet thru the TyTn.
When you do that, the TyTn hands out the address of 192.168.0.100 and it is the gateway, and the Gateway address is 192.168.0.1.
If you have your home router using the same address range, you have the PC that the Tytn is sharing it's internet connection with seeing to addresses within the same range, and two gateways with the same address - The PC LAN card is seing the router at 192.168.0.1 and the Buetooth PAN is seing the phone gateway at the same 0.1 That is what I was trying to say. It won't work like that.
Oh ok I see what you're saying. I was assuming that when it gave me the error, that it was trying to ping my router since I knew that to be my router's address. I did not realize that the Tytn used such a similar gateway.
To correct what I said in my first post: I said that it was trying to ping "IP address"... the exact error message reads "Connot Communicate with DNS Server 192.168.0.1"
It shows a nifty little diagram of the PC connected to the Cingular Bluetooth network connection, then another line connecting to a picture of earth, which they call "internet," but there is a red "X" over that line showing that it can't connect to internet. When you click on Diagnose problem, the above error message is what comes up.
So now, I need to make sure I understand what you are saying Wildbill. I see what you mean from your post... being that I don't connect to my router anymore, ever, at all (since the pc never comes out of the car anymore, and I'm way out of range of my wireless router even in the driveway) what do I need to change? Everything in TCP/IP protocol settings are set to obtain addresses automatically.
Another interesting thing to note is that I did not have this problem when I had XP in my car, and I connected to my wireless router with that pc too. But Internet sharing worked fine with it.
If the only things connected are the TyTn and a PC, then the PC will obtain an IP from the TyTn, and it will be 192.168.1.100. It will tell the pc that the gateway is 192.168.0.1, which is the TyTn. Since the TyTn has Bluetooth 2.0, I would speculate that you could connect additional BT devices to the same BT PAN, and the TytN would likely hand out additional addreses like 0.101, 0.102, etc. I have not tried that nor have I read about it.
See that's what I gathered too. So I don't know why it can't get out to the internet, unless it's that Vista just won't let it for some reason. This bugs me because Internet Sharing worked fine in XP, and BT DUN works fine with Vista with my other phone. Unfortunately I'm getting rid of that phone. If my Tytn had a DUN profile in the BT stack I'd be fine. Weak.

I've been looking endlessly to find out how to share my internet connection with my mobile device over an adhoc wifi connection. I know most will say get router as they are very cheap but there must be a way to do this without a router.
I have enabled ICS on my internet connection in vista but the IP's that are assigned to both the pc and mobile connection when the devices are connected are temporary in the range of 169.x.x.x
The bright side of things is that I can share files seamlessly between the pc and the mobile device, which means all is good except for the internet. There must be a way to bind the device's ip to enable it to share the internet of the PC.
I have searched and searched and I have found nothing. Your comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated, in other words HEEELLLPPP
You need to bridge the Wi-Fi and internet connection. You do this in Control Panel, Network & Sharing Center then 'Manage Network Connections' on the left hand side.
A new page will open showing your internet connection and your wireless connection. Hold down shift and left click on each of them. Next right click on one of the icons and select 'Bridge Connections'
Thanks MaskedMarauder, sadly though my broadband internet connection is through a dialup and hence I cannot bridge the dialup and the wireless connection. If that only can be done somehow, the problem would most definitely be solved.

the way ya doin it with ICS will work. you need to goto properties/advanced...Internet connection sharing and hit the settings button..then tick the DHCP boxes, that will broadcast the IP so ya winmobile will get a DHCP IP address. thats for XP but it should be pretty similiar. I was having heaps of probs getting ics to work adhoc...
you may need to re setup ICS thou, because it wont work unless it uses the IP given when ya first set it up, eg. you cant have manually setup IP addresses in the wifi card.
Thanks Speedn, it looks like you've been through what I'm going through now. Unfortunately again on vista there's no way to adjust the DHCP for ics. I remember having similiar problems on xp but I've resorted to setting the ip's manually and all worked fine, downside was that I had to manually undo everything to connect to a regular access point. On vista that doesn't work though.
Vista is certainly doing something weird here with assigning the ip's.

I have a t-mobile Dash. I'm trying to connect to my home router/AP using WPA2-PSK. I've double-checked my network key and other settings, but I can't seem to get it to connect. Here are my settings:
Network name: GTHOME <- matches my router's broadcast SSID
Network type: Internet
Not a hidden network
Not an ad-hoc connection
Authentication: WPA2-PSK
Data encryption: AES
The key is not automatically provided
Network key: (matches my router's key)
Key index: 1
Does not user IEEE 802.1x network access control. (I've tried it both ways, with PEAP
On trying to connect, my Dash give this message:
"Cannot connect to the network. Check your network and service provider settings and try again."
The AP is a Netgear WPN824 v2 with the latest firmware. Any suggestions?

Guy, do you have a Mac Adddress Filter area on your router?Open your router so no key is required to make a connection and after you establish a connection use the WEP or WPA2-PSK key option! Can you find your Mac address and your Phone's Ip address on your router. You can find this info on your phone also in Comm Manager> setting> Wifi> Connection Status area. There is a place on your router to put this info, so that the router will know that its ok to connect to this device with this info, I believe its in the advance area on your router and use the 10 key WEP if possible!
Install NetWorkMagic To You System
Go to http://www.networkmagic.com and install the trail version on your PC. Networkmagic will tell you if your system is setup correctly or if their is some kind of problem. Use the network map, this will give you a good ideal of whats going down on your system......! If you cannot see your phone on the network map, then Houston, we got a problem...........!But we will fix it! Happy Thanksgiving!

Yep 8 is secure enough. try again without any caps or numbers. e.g. give aaaaaaaa a try
And see that error you mention, that looks like the one IE gives. What happens when you press connect in the wifi list?
I found that having any character other than a-z, 0-9 would cause the dash to fail to connect even though pc's and laptops had no problems. My initial key contained a "-" and "$"-- it drove me crazy trying to figure out the problem until I realized only the dash couldn't connect.

I double-checked the MAC address filter - it's turned off.
I was able to connect with Open Authentication and WEP Data encryption, and if I disable security altogether. Neither of these options is satisfactory.
I also tried 'aaaaaaaa' as the key. It doesn't work in either WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK with TKIP or AES encryption.
The warning I get when I press the connect key in the wi-fi list is -
"Cannot connect to the network. Check your network and service provider settings and try again."
Make sure the Key Index on the phone matches the Key Rotation on the router.

I don't think I'm using Key Rotation. Isn't that just for WEP? And, only if you have a RADIUS server? I just have a simple home network, nothing fancy.
I have a basic USRobotics router and it supports key rotation for WPA2. I had it set to 0 (meaning off), however there was no equivalent setting on my S621. The S621 could only be set at 1,2,3,or 4. When I set both the S621 and the router to the same number (in my case 4) I was able to connect.
My netgear doesn't have a place to set key rotation. I tried each key order (1 - 4) on the phone - no luck.
I even tried installing the evaluation version of CommView for WiFi (http://www.tamos.com/products/commwifi/) so I could see what each device is doing. But, I don't have a compatible adapter.

For your router with IP address 192.168.1.1 with the WPA encryption, turn on the MAC address Filter and install the phone's MAC address in the router in the appropriate area, save settings (soft reset)! Now your phone will now be able to connect to your network via wifi.........!
Well, it's working now in WPA-PSK(TKIP) mode. Here are the changes I made:
I installed a new battery (my Dash started dying every time I turned on wireless while on the battery).
I removed a network called "Free Public Wireless." The Dash would try to connect to this network when it failed to authenticate on my encrypted network.
I suspect the "Free Public Wireless" network was interfering with the login to my home network. I'm just happy that it's working.

I have the same problem:-
"Cannot connect tot the network. Check your network and service provider settings and try again."
After some troubleshooting, I found that this problem will go away when I set some IP address in the network adapter.
I have confirmed that my password (network key) is correct and my MAC filter are also correct.
The only changes that I can think of is that I went to US last week and connected using hotels' wireless access. No IP settings were done during the connection.
Please let me know if anyone has any idea on how to solve this problem.

I have the HTC Touch HD for a few days now and I love it.
I only have the following problem with wireless network connection.
At home I am using a dynamic IP address at work an static address (wtih different DNS and gateway settings)
Does someone knows an program to set these settings for the different connections?

you shouldn't have any issues really. It's odd that you doi. I use mine to connect to multiple wireless networks and it all works fine.
When you turn on the wireless to connect to a new network it will pop up at the bottom and tell you the networks it has found. Then you choose the network you want and connect to it. This will then store it as a favourite connection. Once this has been done whenever you turn on your wireless it will look for networks in range and then automatically connect to which ever one is in range in the Favourite connection list.
Your connection list can be accessed through Start>Settings>Connections>WiFi then Wireless networks. It may be advisable to delete them all and start again if you are having problemss.

You're right for the wifi settings. But the ip settings (static / dynamic gateway dns) are not set through the wireless connection.
But I have found a program called wifiprofiles which does exactly what I want
