I've noticed whenever tapping on the screen it sounds like there is a gap between the display and whatever is behind it and gives it almost a hollow sound. On the edges it is fine and sounds solid but in the center it has a definite Hollow sound. I don't particularly like it but I could see someone saying it sounds like the display is made of plastic.

Yes I know that. But the LG display is composed of a plastic digitizer with glass screen is the same exact design of Samsung's AMOLED display they are nearly identical and Design what they are composed of. But I've never tapped on a Samsung screen or LG screen and have the sensation of hollowness behind display. The purpose of this post was to determine if anyone else had a similar experience with their pixel XL 2

I have definitely noticed this hollow sound. Taps seem to be a bit louder because of it. This display doesn't sound as solid as my past devices, I'm assuming/hoping I'll get used to it.

Jeff Springer told me to rma it, that it wasn't normal. I'm going up to Verizon tomorrow to tap on their pxl2 or maybe a couple different Verizon stores.
Mine sounds the same way and was actually going to.post this same question. Trying to decide to RMA or return and purchase again in a few months hoping all the manufacturing issues or worked out. I posted in the screen issues thread with all the other issues I'm having but this was just a side note.
Do you guys have a screen protector on your phones? I have one, it's the amFilm one ( doesn't have adhesive on the screen portion of the protector..). I definitely have that 'hollow' or plastic? Sound to the display and I'm wondering if it's the actual display or just the screen protector doing it do to it having an air gap due to no adhesive.
No screen protector here, didn't want to spend the money if I was returning the phone. I just keep it in my sunglasses pouch for now when in my pocket.
Ugh, me too. Sounds like cheap junk compared to Shamu

I noticed that too but I think it may be an illusion when combined with the haptic feedback which is a bit different than other phones I've used. I'm not entirely sure but the screen has a layer of gorilla glass and it is curved so it's less likely that it is flexing that much upon just a small tap.

Let us know your findings. I don't have a Verizon store near me and don't know anyone else with a Pixel 2 XL to ask. I thought maybe the hollowness might just be the way it's made or the curved glass or something. Thanks.

So apparently after checking a couple pixel 2s and pixel xl2's I spoke with some dude at Verizon he seem like he was not your average phone store idiot. When I just briefly asked him why the display feels Hollow behind it he replied that it is due to the squeeze feature. The ****ing squeezing feature that's why.

Well, hopefully that's correct. I didn't think it was really defective, or at least hoping it wasn't, and that it was just the way it's supposed to be due to the way it's made. It's just the first phone I've had that feels/sounds that way, but of course the first one I've had with a sweezable frame. Thanks for passing along that information.

To all my fellow HTC One X owners - are you using protection? LOL
I'm simply asking because I was wondering if anyone is going commando with the phone, and whether the screen has shown any scratches as a result? I know the phone is supposed to be sporting the all-powerful Gorilla Glass 2, but I don't trust it yet and so have put a screen protector on the front. This dulls the lustre of the screen a bit, so I am thinking of removing it.
How about yourselves? What has been your own personal choice?
you never know.
I got mine protected.
i saw a post about someone having scratches already. Then I viewed the crazy video of the gorilla glass2 scratch test performed by one *FINE* lady here in xda.
I decided to protect it then. the screen protector doesn't protect the whole screen though.
Edit: have to rephrase she's here now.

Heres the crazy lady - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590172
I used to have a screen protector on my sg2, then took it off after a year and it looked like a brand new phone, felt like i was missing out on the beautiful screen. I was going to get one for the one x, but I have extra insurance included in my phone contract against any kind of damage, accidental etc.. and it seems like it'll be hard to completely cover the glass, especially on the sides as I've seen on the forums that some people have had issues getting it to stay stuck.
I treat most things like they are a new born child when I first get them, then after a while, you get comfortable. I don't want to have this sexy looking phone and cover it with screen protectors and back covers - even if it did cost a lot of money.
one crazy lady here!
nah i'm not going to bother with a screen protector after my test i think....only thing i'm really concerned about is that camera lense. Would like to know what it's made of and how i can protect it (without sticking gel cases on the back etc)
It's funny that on these scratch tests the device never has any issues.
But reading on the forum some people do have scratches etc. just because they have keys and phone in same pocket... Makes you wonder, what kinda test did the scratchtester do with there HaitchTC One eX (Hahaha you crazy british people).

My right pocket on any kind of clothing is my dedicated phone pocket. I put nothing in there with it aside from my smooth leather wallet. If you put keys in there and other sharp stuff, then it's your own fault in my opinion! You don't throw your house keys at your television or computer do you? So why throw them on your pride and joy mobile phone! hehee

Gorilla Glass my ass...
After owning the phone for like 6 months, check the screen again, can garantee you, you will find some small sand scratches.
You'll probably end up with scratches due to sand particles that somehow end up in your pockets. Basically metal won't scratch the glass, but sand will. I won't bother with a screen protector, but I do expect to see at least a couple of microscratches at some point in the near future.
To be honest the first one is the only one that hurts. After that it's bearable.

I have the HTC branded screen protector on my Desire. It's been on since the day I got the phone around 18mths ago along with a case-mate Tough. The protector still looks like new, with one small scratch on it.
Having said that, I'm still on the fence about the One X screen. I'll probably go for another case-mate Tough as it has been worth the money on the Desire for the protection.

I didn't like the official screen protectors, stuck onto the piece of card with some adhesive, by the time i had pulled them off (as carefully as possible) it left a dint in my screen protectors, both ended up with a horrible air bubble where the adhesive had warped the film.
I might just get a nice case and stick with it.
I'm just waiting to see whether i'm keeping it or selling it, i've been appalled by the battery life so far, but the screen seems to be the culprit, at minimum brightness, the screen eats 1% of the battery for ever 5-10 minutes it is on, hopeless when you're playing games, anyone know any solution to this apart from never playing games on the phone?
Wat screen protectors do you guys use?
I have the official HTC ones on mine. but they dont wrap around the edges. Which causes it to sort of "meh". The problem is that the edges of (my) official screen protector dont connect with the screen.
So I am wondering if there are any other brands that do not have this problem and I can order on ebay/amazon or some other website (I live in belgium )
I picked up my M8 last Friday at my local T-Mobile store, and put it in a new OtterBox case as soon as I got in the car. During the past week it has never left its case and has been sitting on my desk or in my pocket. I have never dropped it, set it down too hard, or even looked at it the wrong way. This morning I turned it over and found the glass on the camera has cracked!
I see that this was an issue with the M7, and I'm hoping it is not starting over again with this one. I found this thread on Reddit with a similar situation: http://www.reddit.com/r/htcone/comments/22z4dk/m8_rear_camera_glass_cracked_already/
Anybody else have this issue or any suggestions on what I can do to fix/get it fixed/get it replaced?
Somebody on Reddit also had this issue. I'm kind of worried about getting mine if this happens.
http://www.reddit.com/r/htcone/comments/22z4dk/m8_rear_camera_glass_cracked_already/
That sucks.. It was an issue with the m7 as well. And the lens didn't really change.
My release day m7 still doesn't have a single mark on it. But a couple co-workers fell victim to the broken lens.
As a side note, not sure if it will help or not. But the Nillkin tempered glass screen protector on amazon, comes with glass protectors for the lenses on the back.
Edit: also.. if they hassle you to hard on making you pay for replacements.. You can actually buy the entire rear housing for 49 bucks. Which has the camera lenses on it. I'm assuming they're just using a 3m double sided tape to hold them on, so you could probably push them out from behind on the housing. And dig and pop out your cracked one, and just restick.
http://www.etradesupply.com/htc-one-rear-housing-back-cover-22030.html
I wonder if I just pop out the glass entirely. Why need lens at all? All it does is protect the camera no?
T-Mobile Chat
I just finished a chat with a T-Mobile support rep and they told me to bring my phone in to a store so they can inspect it and determine my options.
According to the rep "There seems to be an issue with the camera and it makes a popping or crackling sound, this could cause your camera to crack." One of the first things they asked me was if I could hear any sounds when trying to take a picture.
I haven't read anything about these sounds elsewhere, but it sounds like something either HTC is aware of or at least just T-Mobile. I have been praising this phone to everyone I know, but am kind of unsure about the build quality now.
Yeah, looks like you must have looked at it the wrong way.

LOL... I expected the front-facing camera to break from me looking at it - not the rear one!
It is ridiculous that I can bash my screen right now and they will replace it for free. This tiny piece of glass that cracked on its own...too bad. HTC Advantage! :highfive:
Figured I"d mention that this just happened to me also.
I noticed that the pictures I was snapping this weekend were blurry and when I checked out the screen, crack
I keep the phone in an Otterbox too.
We'll see what HTC says
Hi Yakayu,
Was wondering if you managed to fix your problem?
I'm in a similar boat and looking to get the whole rear housing replaced as well and hoping they can fix my camera issues there too
as well as a cracked screen the right side of the camera wont focus and is blurry :/
This looks like an excellent opportunity to put the scratch testing question to bed.

This.
And he ran away lmfao
I bought my Black N7 (SM-N930T) just before the recall, (Sept 1). I had it go caseless for the first 24 hours and I can confirm that have a few micro scratches. They're so faint that I can't photograph them, but they're definitely there. Even though it was caseless I babied the hell out of it and never let it sit on any surface as hard as a 6 mohs. I went and got a case for it the second day. I know it's anecdotal and I'm not going to scratch my phone intentionally, but I certainly think Gorilla Glass 5 isn't as scratch resistant as Corning says. What I'd like to see is scratch tests done on a Note 7 after its been exchanged. Only time will tell if this becomes another big controversy.
TLDR: Mine scratched too easily and too soon.

What ? You are making no sense.
This isn't about IF it scratches or not.
It's about using your head and realizing that Samsung might narrow down the issue with further investigation to specific batches which could be traced by Serial Number / IMEI.
There is no point in trying to "scratch test" your $900 phone on purpose because there is no gurantee that within a week or two or three that Samsung will replace the device.
I mean, why should they replace your phone if they figure out that it isn't affected by the issue....
Again, they are STILL INVESTIGATING. They MIGHT be able to narrow it down so hold of on the intentional damage / torture tests imho.

It's not voluntary here. They want you to immediately stop using the phone. and turn it in for an Interim phone or decline the Note 7. They want you to stop immediately.
And their FAQ file says damage is irrelevant to the exchange.
I'm not saying smash with a sledge hammer.
These phones will be put back as new front and back. It would be nice to know if normal handling scratches them.
But it would be interested how it responds to keys and what not in the pocket.
Basically carry it as a un-babied phone.
If GG 5 is what Samsung says it is, you shouldn't worry carrying it normally.
I think is they backslid on protection they need to know it happens and what we feel about it.

Why are you still going on about scratches.
We know it scratches....
It scratches LESS than plastic while being more shatter resistant than regular curved glass could ever be.
That's the point of GG5. Because of the double curved front and back glass, they had to create a type of glass that was more shatter resistant. Previous GG formulations likely would not have worked and been very weak especially at the curved edges.
I think they have done a fine job overall. Would I have preferred a more scratch resistant non curved glass ?
At first I thought yes. Now after using this phone, I say NO. It is much more compact and easier to hold this way.
All I need now is to find the genuine Samsung screen protector somewhere...

The question I believe that most people have is whether or not it scratches easier than GG4? My Galaxy S6 w/ GG4 managed to get a scratch on the screen only after a few days of ownership and I was very careful with it. I don't believe if someone here happens to get a scratch on the Note 7 that it automatically implies that it's somehow easier to scratch overall compared to GG4. I tried to see how a Note 7 would hold up at a local retail store and I could not leave a single scratch on it using keys and other metal objects. I can't help but think that opinions of GG5 scratch resistance have been permanently biased because of one Youtube video. Here is another video that appears to contradict the notion that GG5 scratches almost as easily as plastic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-l0xpSZTlC0
I think this video is a step in the right direction but I would like to see someone else do a similar test that jerryrigeverrything did before we start to preach the gospel of #scratchgate and state it as irrefutable fact.
I've never owned a phone that didn't get scratches on it visible from certain angles. As far as the recall goes, Samsung has already stated that they would be replacing the phone for everybody that bought it. So for them to go back and say only this certain serial numbers would be pretty ****ty imo. But I wouldn't put it past them doing it. I guess i need to get with Verizon and see what I nees to do.

Which Carrier are you on? I'm with Telus, and their official statement says it's not voluntary. They recommend turning in the Note ASAP, and either getting a loaner until the replacement arrives, or swapping to a different phone.

Bell and they said voluntary.
Everyone,
Check the top right corner of your Pixel XL. Look and see if there is a tiny separation happening at the top right corner where it meets the top/side. I happened to notice on mine. It is very small but it's there. It's not like that on the left side. I went up to the Verizon store to possibly swap it out but while I was waiting for a representative I looked at their floor models and noticed the same separation on all of their models. It seems as if there was an adhesive used to fuse the phones together that did not stick on that side. I was actually able to press down on the corner and it would move so I know it is an actual separation. I'm curious to see if anyone else has noticed this?
Front or back? Either way there is no separation on mine on either side.

It's on the front. Around the top right corner. It's very small and hard to spot. I got 'lucky' and saw it in a certain light and now I can't unsee it!

No issues over here. Everything is sealed. Did you drop it or hit it on something by accident or has it been around any heat? If not could be a defective unit.

Nope. Haven't dropped it or anything. Hehe I haven't had it long enough for that yet! Like I said before though all the verizon floor models had this same little separation. It probably isn't a big deal but I was just curious to see if anyone else had it. I'm have a Verizon model if that makes any difference.
Nothing here

Mine is from Google Store. I did go to a Verizon the other day but didn't really notice anything. There is a Verizon on my way to work so I will stop in and look at the floor models.
None here either?

Man, yall are making me think I'm crazy!
Nothing like that on mine. All good!
Canadian model here - all looks perfect!
Verizon model here, no issues. Screen meets the frame just fine
Maybe can you post a picture?
I HAVE deportation on the back, and it broke pressing the headset to my ear to hear my father better today...... I got the insurance but planned on returning it in 14 days because I have a Google over on the way.... Luckily Google said he will talk to Verizon for me and hook a brother up. This whole pixel thing is a disaster..... Phone is mint besides that minor stress fracture/shatter... FML shoulda just listened to the wife use a flip phone.
no, you are not crazy.
I also got it from google store and have tiny gap between the aluminium case and the front glass. It's very little, but it is there. I don't have another camera here right now, but when I'm home I'll try to take a shot of it.
I have the silver version and I guess with it you can see the gap better than with other color versions.
Anyway, luckily my case covers the gap, else I couldn't unsee it too.
Here's a pic of mine

Hi,
Because I just got a pair of polarized sunglasses, I have discovered that the display on my RN5 Pro seems to be polarized. While this sounds good, the practical effect is that if I hold my phone vertically while wearing my sunglasses, I can't see the screen at all. I can only see it if I hold the phone horizontally.
Is this something that is physically part of the display? Is there any option to change/rotate or turn off the polarization? Any ideas?
Thanks!

I noticed the same thing and was not pleased. I have no idea how the physics works but after putting on a glass screen protector it works just fine...

Thank you!
And now you can see the screen with polarised sun glasses?
Amazing!
Ho, I was about to ask a similar question, that a coincidence
The fact is, the redmi note 5 ha a polarized filter (like all LCD panels) oriented at 90° from the one of other smartphone I had (nexus 5X, Redmi note 4, etc.). As per consequence I can't see anything in portait mode but it's all clear in landscape, witch is terrible for car use.
If a screen protector can mitigate this issue, it worth the try

Hi All,
I put a cheap glass screen protector (a dollar or two from ebay) on the phone, and the problem disappeared. It would be interesting to learn the physics behind it, but practically, all you have to know is put any kind of glass screen protector on and the issue goes away. And you keep the phone looking good. So bonus.
Thanks for the discussion, everyone.

Today I put glass protector (cheap) but the problem did NOT disapper. This is very frustrating for me. Maybe I must search to another kind?

Exactly the one I ordered. You can see my result in the picture.
Edit: I have stopped using the protector, mainly because it would get smudged very easily.

Yeah it worked good for polarized problem. Maybe this full body protector use a different glass than this i.e.: https://www.amazon.it/Ferilinso-Xia...749688&sr=8-1&keywords=pocophone+screen+glass

But we need to know which @Misho2bg has purchased
I have discovered that my redmi note 5 is polarized vertically, while another redmi note 5 i bought for my girlfriend, is polarized horizontally. Strange
