Hi,
Because I just got a pair of polarized sunglasses, I have discovered that the display on my RN5 Pro seems to be polarized. While this sounds good, the practical effect is that if I hold my phone vertically while wearing my sunglasses, I can't see the screen at all. I can only see it if I hold the phone horizontally.
Is this something that is physically part of the display? Is there any option to change/rotate or turn off the polarization? Any ideas?
Thanks!

I noticed the same thing and was not pleased. I have no idea how the physics works but after putting on a glass screen protector it works just fine...

Thank you!
And now you can see the screen with polarised sun glasses?
Amazing!
Ho, I was about to ask a similar question, that a coincidence
The fact is, the redmi note 5 ha a polarized filter (like all LCD panels) oriented at 90° from the one of other smartphone I had (nexus 5X, Redmi note 4, etc.). As per consequence I can't see anything in portait mode but it's all clear in landscape, witch is terrible for car use.
If a screen protector can mitigate this issue, it worth the try

Hi All,
I put a cheap glass screen protector (a dollar or two from ebay) on the phone, and the problem disappeared. It would be interesting to learn the physics behind it, but practically, all you have to know is put any kind of glass screen protector on and the issue goes away. And you keep the phone looking good. So bonus.
Thanks for the discussion, everyone.

Exactly the one I ordered. You can see my result in the picture.
Edit: I have stopped using the protector, mainly because it would get smudged very easily.

Yeah it worked good for polarized problem. Maybe this full body protector use a different glass than this i.e.: https://www.amazon.it/Ferilinso-Xia...749688&sr=8-1&keywords=pocophone+screen+glass

But we need to know which @Misho2bg has purchased
I have discovered that my redmi note 5 is polarized vertically, while another redmi note 5 i bought for my girlfriend, is polarized horizontally. Strange

Then the tints are most probably due to that screen protector. If you are really worried, then remove the protector and test. You can buy another protector, and apply it. Anyway, the pre supplied protect is not that good. You will be better off with a tempered glass one that covers the whole screen.

I see the same thing on my OnePlus 3 without a screen protector on, I don't believe that this could be considered a defect though..
It's called rainbow effect and common for AMOLED screens. Nothing wrong with your device.
Mine has this too and I've read about others noticing this on the OP3.

I cannot confirm that now. As I have sent my OnePlus 3 back for replacement due to the yellow screen issue.
It is normal for amoleds. Same on the S7e.
Hi OP3 owners! Need your advice, I put my eye on OP but made a little research and see that there is problems with screen protectors for it because of rounded edge. What is your opinion?
Now I hesitate and thinking about mi5
Thank you!
well there is a screen protector already on the phone preinstalled. but its not glass if thats what you want
Yeah, but as I have read it is not the best, and the screen is the weakest phone part and need to be protected... So i just dont knmow what to do. I wonder how good is Gorilla 4, can it protect screen from general factors for 2 years?
I got myself a imitation orzly kinda screenprotector.
It works perfect edge to edge. It has a bit of rainbow when the screen is not on.

Listen all screens that have a small curve have this issues with a sp. That my tgsp sometimes gives me a little bit of rainbow. Yeah I can live with that. It is way better then replacing screens after a drop. 90℅ of the time rainbow ain't there.
Anyways. You want a perfect settled screenprotector. 2 options. Get a flat screen. Or get a foil based screenprotector. Noting along the side will be 100% perfect. But hey just my 2 cents.

If you take care of your device it's more than good enough.
My previous phone had Gorilla Glass 2 - after 3 years the screen still looks the same as on day one. The phone was kept in the same pocket as keys and never had any screen protectors or cases. Dropped twice: once from car seat level onto its side (onto asphalt), once from pocket level flat on its back (onto concrete tiles).
I'd dare saying that Gorilla Glass is pretty damn durable ? It will survive anything short of direct hit. But then again, even screen protectors won't do much against that.

Hi all,
We all know how hard it is to find a good Tempered glass for a smartphone with curving edge display,
That also the case with our Pixel 2 XL
Luckily, finally i managed to found tempered glass that has full adhesive, case friendly, and doesn't break our bank account,
Here's the product : Tempered Glass for Google Pixel 2XL Screen Protector FULL GLUE Case Friendly Premium Screen Glass Protector For Google Pixel2XL
http://s.aliexpress.com/qqYVbYFZ?fromSns=Copy to Clipboard
(from AliExpress Android)
Price : $11.77 include free shipping,
It took week till it arrive to my door. Item shipped from Hongkong, am living in Indonesia
Packaging : its good and safe. Tempered glass placed inside a sterofoam box .
Installation : Now, this is the tricky part, although it has full adhesive, the installation wont go as simple as installing other (ex iPhone) full adhesive TG. It (the adhesive) tends to spread unevenly causing bubble.
The trick is to go from the corner, while keep the other corner floating, press the glass with two or more finger ensuring no bubble appear in the process.
It will take sometimes till you get it right with zero bubble,
But the result is rewarding. It perfectly fit, and can be used with cases as well. I use it with original google fabric case.

It was quite gambling for me as well, lol,
But since i have no other option available in my country, u guess i have nothing to lose for 12 bucks.
Now am waiting a case to arrive
Looks good. I just don't understand why they make the top and bottom black instead of clear if it is full adhesive.
I'm guessing this is the same product as HeroShield. Looks the same. My HeroShield should arrive in a few weeks, so we'll see.
Does it have a cut out for the proximity sensor? I don't mean just a transparent window, proper gap/no glass bit over the sensor. I can't see from the photos
how is the screen feel and oleophobic coating? Does the finger glide eaily on the screen?

Its because although the adhesive on the display area is full, there's lil gap on the edge area where it doesn't have the adhesive, i guess due to the curve, it still not possible to create fully transparent glass protector with full adhesive. I never seen one for popular phone like iphone either. All iphone x glass protector has coloring as well.
The only real transparent protector with full adhesive is whitestone probably, but thats using low viscosity loca to begin with, so its different story, not to mention the skyhigh price.

It doesn't. It have a transparent window with adhesive under . It stick perfectly though, thus no interference to the proximity function. I try make a call and place finger over the sensor, it work normally

Nothing extraordinary regarding the coating i guess. Finger glide nicely just like on original screen. But it collecting fingerprint overtime. (Am one of those guy who have wet hand all the time though, so my experience with fingerprint might be severe than how it should) :silly:
ordered! hope it will arrive soon!
btw do you have to tear it out to re position it when you are applying on the screen?

You need to lift it off if you already stick large area of it prior to reposition,
Positioning is quite easy though, the harder part is to push the glass slow and even.
I'd almost be interested, but I try to stay away from protectors that cover the proximity sensor. I know it works sometimes, I've just been bitten by it too many times on phones where it causes issues.
Here's HeroShield's install video. Seems like they include a squeegee with theirs to help with the bubbles.
Mine comes today, so I'll see what it's like too.

Can see from the video that it has glass covering the sensor, so it will be hit or miss. Some will have no issues with the sensor. Others will.
Mine will be here in a few weeks, so I'll see then too.
Hi OP... Are you able to post some picts of the top and bottom edge of the phone? Or a pict that can somehow show the gap of the side of the protector to where it meets the screen. Just curious to see if there is a slight gap as there is no adhesive there. Since I go case less, I am afraid I will always crack the glass because of this gap. Thanks in advance!
Something like this ?
Those picts are good!!! thanks!!!
Hi all. I've had un unfortunate phone drop last night, resulting in the glass of the screen broken in the lower left corner. The screen is displaying perfect and so the digitizer. I've seen some sellers on amazon selling the glass only with no digitizer nor display. Can anyone let me know if this can be changed (glass of the screen only), and if so, any tutorials or videos to do so?
I really dont want to spend more than $100 on a new screen...
I hope someone helps! Thanks!!! Cheers.

I dropped my Pixel 2 XL in November, also only the glass was broken.
But I paid €180 for the glass plus screen, because the screen is razor-thin and glued to the glass. As far as I know, the glass isn't sold separately, at least not as original from Google.
And believe me, the glass is very thin, but the screen is even thinner. So before buying a third-party-glass, I would check how to get the screen off the glass and back again.
I've been looking for some videos about this, and it looks really complicated to separate the glass from the screen, but possible. Some guys apply extreme cold or heat to unglue the screen, then they clean up ALL the screen, and then they reapply something to stick it to the new glass (I don't know what they use). So balancing the hard work to do this, I'm starting to think it will be a better option to change the whole screen. Do anyone knows if new purchased genuine screens comes with the blue problem solved? Any good place to purchase a genuine one within USA?
Thanks for the answers and help...

Parts shortages, part spec change, sloppy production line/QC practices... who knows?
Not a critical item.
If it you could correlate that to a manufactured date/plant that might be interesting.
Inspect closely for any physical damage.
Charge to 100% Boot.
Use ScreenTest to check the display. Test cam, internet/phone, bt, wifi, and basic features.

Not sure what you call a screen protector. Pixels never had screen "protectors", the most recent Pixel 6 just had a piece of paper loosely layed on the screen that you were able to easily pull off.

I had no sticker on the camera. It's possible that it was returned, but it's also just possible that the human that assemblied the phone forgot to remove the sticker. If you remember the leaked assembly videos, almost the entire assembly is done by humans by hand, so mistakes wouldn't surprise me.
they dont come with any. Just the paper bit on the screen.

There's no screen protection when you open the box. There's just a paper covering the screen. I would suggest to watch one of the unboxing videos and verify if that's what you got.
Mine had clear plastic stickers over all glass surfaces. Probably what people are referring to as "protectors". They do indeed protect from dings and scratches during shipping.
