I live in Central Pa, Altoona to be exact and WAS really excited about the promised roll out to this area by end of 2017. But after much digging I see that only a very very small part of PA is free to get Band 71 at this point. See my twitter post: https://twitter.com/CrowsnestIT/status/917132876096921600

Here are links to where you can see how your area looks for current Band 71 usage by the TV stations and where you fall in the projected TMO Band 71 roll out. As for us in PA, we are looking at Phase 6 and 7 meaning end of 2019 That means it will probably be in the form of 5G and the V30 will be long gone

I don't live in Band 71 coverage area, but I travel to Cheyenne on a semi-regular basis. I'll put up a report next time I'm up there (perhaps the middle of the week).
What is the timeline for Phase 1 locations? I see Atlanta in Phase 1, and I have friends here who use T-Mobile.
For people with V30 in T-Mobile B71 area, i have a open request for you. I am a freelancer working with Cellmapper.net project and would like to have your input.
The android app Cellmapper https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cellmapper.net.cellmapper can show and record LTE band data.
These recordings will be displayed on coverage map, once uploaded to central server. https://www.cellmapper.net/map
We need a debug report sent to us from Cellmapper app(settings page), while your LG V30 is connected to Band71 (app might show Band 7 as an error). This is needed to fix possible faulty earfcn reported by Android RIL.
Thank you in advance and please let us know if you have any more questions.
Well, looks like Voyagers in MN and Upper MI get phase one... a couple places I plan to vacation soon, which is nice. Favorite part of MN (north shore) wont get it until the final phase
I assume this isnt a marketing choice but more about speed of transitioning whatever tv stations and other things in play. If it was marketing, they would have that North Shore of Superior covered right away!!!! It's rural but heavily traveled during summer.

This is what I have found for phase 1:
T-Mobile’s 600MHz LTE is already live in Cheyenne, Wyo., and Scarborough, Maine, and T-Mo has previously said other parts of the country where it plans to deploy 600MHz LTE in 2017. Those areas are:
Wyoming
Northeast and Southwest Oregon
West Texas
Southwest Kansas
The Oklahoma panhandle
Western North Dakota
Additional areas of Maine
Coastal North Carolina
Central Pennsylvania
Central Virginia
Eastern Washington

I have family in the UP of Michigan and spend a good bit of time on Lake Superior in Grand Marais MI and I can testify that TMO has no coverage up there. It roams to AT&T but even AT&T only has HSPA+ in a lot of places up there. I did see over the last year that TMO got a few of there own towers in like Newberry MI and St Ignace, MI.
But yes you are correct, if it was up to TMO they would have it up as fast as they can find tower climbers to put it up, but thanks to TV it will be phased.

Faster Speeds
I know this thread is about band 71, but i'm in Miami and my speeds here have been greatly increased. I don't know if it's the radios or carrier aggregation but , these speeds are sick
Sure, LG V30 is a Gigabit LTE class device as s8/note8 are. Ultimate speed and coverage device for T-mobile US users.

Nice speeds man! Is that with the V30? Just got mine this afternoon and as I suspected no Band 71 yet here in Central PA. I did see the normal 2,4 & 12 bands. I did several speedtests and saw around 90 meg as the fastest. Overall I'm very impressed with the device compared to the LG G6.

Thanks for the roll out info. I could not get T-mobile to share this. Between home, work, and paintball I am in phase 6 & 8. If I keep my V30 for over 2 years I would take advantage of that 71 band.
Better to have it (band 71) and not need it. Instead of need it and not have it. A no brainer if you are on T-mobile.

Agreed I just left AT&T this weekend for T-Mobile. Ported over our S6's for right now. Trying to get down what phone I want to get. Was going to get the Bogo S8 deal but since they do not have Band 71 I am not doing that now. Hope to get to a store this weekend that has the V30 in stock so I can get my hands on it. Debating waiting for the unbranded version that comes out at the end of the month if I like it.

Also agreed I have both the s8 and s8+ and just got the V30. If nothing changes to convince me otherwise, the V30 is hands down better than the S8's.. So far I have needed to factory reset the s8"s about every 15 to 20 days because they just get so laggy and buggy and have so much bloat. I have dropped by s8+ twice, both times in a case and the glass is broken front and back. Not saying the V30 will be better in that department though since it is also glass). But so far the camera is on par and the skin is much lighter and faster. We'll see how battery life and usability is over the next month.

is there a 4G symbol next to the signal strength or does it say LTE? mine says 4G but they show LTE on the nokia website. i didnt upgrade my plan so i was wondering if i have LTE enabled or not.
When the "4G" shows, you're connected to HSPA+. When LTE shows, you are in fact on the actual LTE network.

Really? You need a lte dataplan to have lte.
When you upgraded, your provider should have offered the LTE Data Plan upgrade also.
One thing I've noticed is that I'm ALWAYS showing 4G now. I cannot wait to be able to look at the registry, so I can check it. I believe they set normal 3G to show 4G now. I've never gotten HSPA+ here in the house, and now it's ALWAYS on? hmmmm
Still love the phone, but that's a bit misleading...
just looked at my plan on the AT&t website and i have a unlimited LTE plan, but i still dont see the LTE symbol
Closest LTE tower is 40 miles away
Looks like Nokia's doing exactly what Apple did with the 4.1 update.
Even though you're most likely still using 3G speeds, the phone will display 4G.
Misleading. Anything under 6mbps is 3G.
The phone will only show LTE when you're in an LTE city. If you live in the bay area you're in luck. Anywhere else, not so much. (except if you live in the other major markets)
As far as the folks still grandfathered into the unlimited data plan, the good news is since your device is LTE your speeds will not be throttled until you hit 5GBs.
As soon as we have registry access, I'll be changing it to show 3G when it's actually 3G. I don't like being deceived, especially when I'm trying to download something...
I asked about this in the store and got flat out lied to by the representatives. Saying how we were in a 4G area now and my speeds will be improved. Did a bandwith test at home and still was only getting 3.5 down. Coverage map according to at&t is the same at my house and the corporate store 12 miles away.
Yeah, I'm kinda irritated about this too. Even my microcell is being labeled as "4G". When I was at work yesterday, I tried a speed test on 4G and got .8 Mb down. You don't want to know what my upload speed was.

I feel your pain, but why would you ever believe a sales rep about anything other than the amount charged to your credit card? They are salesmen. Next week it might be dishwashers, after that an underground sprinkler system. Though I feel you, you had that coming.
Just as I suspected. They've changed the Registry to show 4G even when it's definately NOT 4G. I am only able to read the Registry, so am still stuck with it, but at least I can confirm they have tried to pull the wool over my eyes as I thought.
How are they getting away with that ? Is that legal ? It must be something to do with Windows Phone, both my symbian Nokias are showing 3.5G symbol for HSPA+, not 4G.
I just looked at this wiki page, I don't know how accurate it is, but it shows the following:

What is the difference between LTE and LTE Advanced ? According to this, even LTE is not 4G, its 3.9G.. and HSPA+ is 3.5G
Oh, here we go.. according to International Mobile Telecommunications this is what you need to market a device as a "4G" .. but I guess no one cares since most iPhones I see are showing 4G and they don't even have the radios for it. I guess this is the "loophole"
"On December 6, 2010, ITU-R recognized that these two technologies, as well as other beyond-3G technologies that do not fulfill the IMT-Advanced requirements, could nevertheless be considered "4G", provided they represent forerunners to IMT-Advanced compliant versions and "a substantial level of improvement in performance and capabilities with respect to the initial third generation systems now deployed"."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMT-Advanced#Requirements
Actually, I have no problem with them labeling HSPA+ as 4G. That's ok with me. But they've marked UMTS as 4G. Now that seems downright dishonest... It's my guess that was done by AT&T, not Nokia/Microsoft, since it directly benefits them...
yea this does blow
i look to be just on the outskirts of the Baltimore LTE signal for ATT, and would really like to know what sort of connection I actually have, not what they want to con me into thinking. thought I'd assume if I actually did have LTE, it would be saying so, at least hopefully.
it blows - there are three towers within 10 miles of my house, but none of them put off the LTE signal. they seem to have one every exit up and down I95 in the Baltimore/Metro area

Actually, the LTE symbol is set correctly. It will only show when you are actually connected to LTE. The only one I see set incorrectly is the UMTS. It's set to 4G instead of 3G. Unfortunately, UMTS is what I normally have at home. On rare occasion, I can get HSPA+. But it's just nice to know exactly what connection I have in case I'd like to download a larger file.

I spoke to At&t about this. They told me the towers software is upgraded before the hardware. When that happens it will show 4G when you are getting 3G speeds. I may be wrong, but as I understand it 3G and 4G HSPA+ the difference is Fiber between towers instead of cable. Maybe someone can clarify for us if that's true.

That's very possible, but the issue I am having is that they simply changed in the Registry to show UMTS as 4G. That's just dishonest, unless they have some magical way of making UMTS 4G?
I'm sorry I keep going on about this. I'll stop... You won't normally see me complaining about this type of thing on these forums, I'm just a bit frustrated that it's been so blatently thrown in our faces. I still love the phone, and I actually don't mind the AT&T service I recieve, but they should TRY to not be dishonest as much as possible.
I live in Orange Country, California. There's Wimax blanketing the whole county. I love it.
Unfortunately, no LTE yet. ETA mid-next-year.
I, recently, upgraded to the S3. I tried it out for more than a week. I love the phone with all its bells and whistles. However, because there's no LTE in my area, I was connecting to the 3G. And, it's horridly SLOW.
So, I decided to switch back to my S2 Epic Touch and take advantage of the Wimax speed until LTE comes to my area.
Am I crazy? I'm wondering if anybody else have had the same experience.
You're not crazy at all. I'm currently in Orange County too, specifically Orange/Garden Grove. I love the 4G at my work office. My 4G pulls 8mbps down, inside the building. But LTE rollouts in OC shouldn't take much longer, I'll be ready to buy a Galaxy Nexus or S3 when it does.

Yeah, me no loco!
I really like the current generation of phones. For instance, the EVO 4G LTE has one of the best camera. The aperture is F2.0. Wow! It's awesome for me, because I frequently take pictures of my little daughter. But, that too, I quickly returned, because I couldn't stand the horrid 3G speed.
Yupz, I'm also in Orange County enjoying great 4G WiMax speeds. Not gonna upgrade to an LTE phone until LTE actually gets here.
I Live in craptastic Oklahoma with no 4G I however visited Orange County a while back and was shocked at how amazing the 4G was. At most places it proved faster than the wifi I could use. Can't say the same for a recent trip to St Louis.
Funny such big cities have to wait on LTE, mine will be live by Xmas time and I'm in the sticks. But mines included in like a 1/4 state upgrade covering about 4 major cities and 20 smaller cities. I'm just trying to decide what to blow my upgrade on

If you live in a Wimax area with no lte, there is no reason to upgrade. Its the reason sprint is still supporting this phone I think.

Frankly, if Wimax and LTE is not available in your area and their 3G is your only avenue, i wouldn't recommend Sprint at all. "Unlimited" data is irrelevant if you're speeding along at a horrid rate. Smartphones need a decent network connection to function at all.
Don't get me wrong, I love Sprint. Their customer service is great. You can get a live person (from USA) customer service within 30 second when calling in. And, their online customer service chat is fantastic too.

It's still a great phone. They might just keep selling it until NV is fully rolled out.
Samsung will keep supporting this phone with software updates until it reaches it's end of life age of 18 months. I would hope they keep software updates coming until the 24 month mark.

I can probably see us getting key lime prime or whatever android upgrade is coming out next. There's literally no reason we can't update if it's not a major update... If it is a major update then we'll probably get a value pack update like the OG SGS if they decide to not give us the full update.
Anyways... I've been saying this since forever but really.
If you're in a non-lte area with wimax and LTE deployment is not coming within 6 months then stick with your current wimax phones.
If you're in a wimax area or non wimax area with LTE coming within 6 months then update when you start seeing NV upgrades or increased 3g speeds (3g speeds will increase before LTE goes live) as LTE should come relatively soon as 3g speeds indicate fiber or microwave backhaul.
If you're on the fringe of Sprint service and get ****e coverage/service then switch to another carrier and come back in a year or two where sprint deploys LTE 800mhz and fills up all those holes.

Being a sponsor at www.s4gru.com gives you privy to a lot of information including estimated launch dates, current progress of upgrades, location of said upgrades, and knowledge on what network vision actually is.
All markets are being shuffled thanks to the SoftBank investment in sprint. There is really no more set dates nor time frames anymore. In fact, Samsung, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, and all the other vendors and subcontractors are moving all over areas regardless of market boundaries. Most work is being done in out NE, East, South, Gulf, texas & surrounding areas along with steady progress in Los Angeles (and surrounding counties) and the San Francisco Bay area.

In conclusion, is it valid to say that the T-Mobiles Note 2 LTE Radio is more capable than AT&T's version?
When T-Mobile Enables Support for LTE on Note 2, can it be used with AT&T LTE for full 4G LTE speeds?
Does the Unlocked T-Mobile Note 2 work with AT&T's Proper LTE?

T889 gets HSPA+ on T-Mobile & HSPA+ on AT&T (no LTE anywhere)
I317 gets LTE on AT&T and EDGE on T-Mobile (not sure if it actually gets HSPA+ on the new T-Mobile 1900 Band... ) anyone else can elaborate?
Any Hybrid modem out yet? Anyway to get AT&T LTE on T889?
Okay, I'll admit that a small consideration when I bought a T-Mobile Note II rather than an AT&T one was that the radio appeared more versatile in case I wanted to switch carriers at some point, but the primary reason was I'd wanted to check out T-Mo's HSPA+42 service, which is available where I live and work, while AT&T's LTE service isn't yet.
I see what TEKHD is trying to do in another thread, and I have that in mind as the ideal phone (dual-sim Note II with AT&T & T-Mo sims), but for most people, I think the best advice is just decide what service you want and get that phone.
If AT&T LTE is what you want, get the i317 and don't worry about trying to get a T889 to use AT&T LTE until someone else actually proves it can be done easily and reliably.

I am using an AT&T Note II, unlocked and on a T-Mobile prepaid 4g plan. I get HSPA+ where I live (Mesa Arizona). It will be interesting to see if I pick up T-Mobiles LTE when it rolls out in a couple months. :fingers-crossed:
probably not
Tmo isnt rolling out LTE.. They dont even have a FCC license for it yet.. not do they have an equipment vendor.
**The closest thing in the states we will see.. is integrated LTE use from the recently acquired Metro PCS sites.. there are not even rumors of Tmo integrating LTE into their switching system yet.. they dont have CO equipment to handle it either.. so.....

No Im not kidding. I would have to say you are badly misinformed. VZW does not make or supply equipment. VZW uses the same Ericsson RBS cabinets [6601 LTE] as ATT and Metro PCS [metro was recently acquired by Tmo.. but Tmo cannot integrate LTE into their current CO technology without retrofitting].
*I am a heavily involved consultant for major carriers and contractors on the West coast.. Tmo here is going nuts adding new UMTS/HSDPA carriers and expanding sites.. there is no talks of LTE installs for 2013.. no project development yet for Tmo LTE in 2013.. Not a peep. Dont get your hopes up.. it still may develop later in the year though. Q1 is always miserably slow.
According to a Tmobile service rep lte is going to be rolled out with the iphone launch on TMobile.

Assuming they can get an equipment contract from Ericsson.. who is already back-ordering ATT's and VZW's 6601 supply? I'm not saying they arent looking towards it.. but West coast Tmo would be very interested to hear if other markets are already field testing 700mhz [which to my knowledge they have not anywhere in the US at this time]. Lab testing maybe.. but field deployed LTE doesnt just get "tested" .. you have to launch an entire market - and that would be where...?

The city where I work already has had the LTE antennas installed last month, I saw it with my own eyes and I happen to work literally within 100 feet of the antenna site. The frequencies haven't been fired up for LTE, however the HSPA+ speed has increased dramatically with the new antennas, can't wait for T-mo to update my Note 2 with the LTE bands and the antennas to be activated to provide LTE. Now, if T-mo would give me anything more than EDGE speeds where I live I'd be even happier...

Ummmm... guy? Where have you been? T-Mobile has spent the last year refarming their network, moving their HSPA+ service to the 1900 MHz band so that they can roll out LTE on the AWS 1700 MHz band. The first market to go live will be Las Vegas which should happen within the next few weeks according to the CTO. This is all public knowledge and has been for some time. I don't think you're as in the loop as you think you are.

*derp.. we are crossing wires here. Im not discounting the work ongoing now.. just saying it doesnt add up to Tmo LTE in 2013
LTE for the rest of the nation will be months if not a year down the road still... I thought someone was eluding to full LTE launch. Test markets always launch first.. they represent only a tiny niche of the market. Because a carrier has functional signal in 2% of the national zone doesnt qualify them as an LTE vendor. They dont have the ingredients at this time to pull off nation-wide LTE in 2013.. period.

According to T-Mobile, from their talks at CES, they are going to be doing an enormous amount of LTE this year.
"They talked LTE a little bit, noting that they planned to have 100 Million folks covered by the middle of this year, 200 Million by the end of the year, and the rollout would start in Vegas in just a few weeks." androidcentral.com/t-mobile-talks-lte-mlb-voice-hd-and-more

I see where you're coming from, and you seem like a knowledgable guy, but all T-Mo modernized sites that are using Ericsson's AIR (Antenna Integrated Radio) are LTE ready, so basically while they're modernizing and refarming their 1900Mhz sectrum for HSPA+, they're effectively deploying LTE Release 10 Equipment.
RBS 6601 cabinets are already in place here in NYC (which is already officially modernized) and we're basically 1900Mhz across the board. Fiber backhaul has never been an issue with T-Mobile.
Vegas and Kansas are about to be launched this month according to T-Mobile's CTO Neville Ray. Engineers have been testing LTE in modernized markets for months now, and it's just a matter of time when they make LTE commercially available.

I certainly don't have coverage in places that I had with Verizon. I think its the bandwidth difference. I do get data speeds about twice as fast maybe more on T-Mobile. 30MB down 12UP

see at my house on verizon i get 70-80 mbps sometimes... thats on my m8. i also keep seeing theyre going to improve "in-building" service... do you notice it going out inside houses, building, stores etc...?
i did the test drive w/ them.. i was just curious while i wait for that phone to be shipped.
Columbus here...
Pros: LTE coverage great around the 270 outerbelt and suburbs
Cons: Spotty data the further rural
Cons x2: Hit and miss data when traveling outside city limits (i.e. I-70, I-71)
Calls/texts still great when driving, and I've noticed more "E" coverage lately than complete drop-offs. Verizon wins @ the moment if you're looking for reliable data while traveling, but as far as city coverage is concerned, T-Mo is pretty awesome.
Personal history: 12 years w/ Sprint, 18mo w/ VZW. Currently 8mo into T-Mo contract, w/ unlimited data option. Haven't looked back once.
Springfield ohio here
Att was my old service going to tmobile was a it rough not going to lie but I get constant 4G no let unless I go north or south of my location but it's slowly working it's way to me

Yes when I go inside some buildings I loose my signal.
Thanks for the replies! I don't travel much at all, especially now that I have a newborn son so as long as I can get coverage at my home and work I might pull the trigger. One thing that might hold me back is I am on edge with Verizon and I just found out you can't apply the etf payoff from tmo to help payoff your phone on the edge plan. So I'd have to payoff my phone in full ($550 still) and then switch.. Which kinda sucks.
Looking forward to the test drive to see what I'm able to get. Something that has been confusing me is when the coverage map says "service provider" what does that mean? Voice only? On something other than T-Mobile? Also.. That coverage map, is that data coverage or voice?

Sensorly and OpenSignal maps can give you a good idea of real user-generated signal maps in the areas you frequent, but they do work best in urban/sub-urban locations where more users map their travels.
Tmo in Columbus is great for me on the north side. If I go too far past Powell though I drop to 2g. I average 20-25+ on lte and even if I use hspa I still get 10. I find the signal bars with tmo seem to fluctuate a lot when I had my nexus and it would show I had 1 to 0 bars sometimes but I never had a problem making calls or using data. In my basement at home I used to get 0 bars of lte but still could pull 10mbps down. I would recommend the switch in Columbus if you don't travel a lot out in to the country.

I work in Powell so it's good to hear it works there. I do often have to travel north into Delaware or sometimes further north into the rural areas but not having 4g there wouldn't really bother me because it's never a long time I'm there.
When you say hspa, is that 2g?

Hspa+ is their 4g but not the lte. It works way different than Verizon.
T-mo has the following.
1g gsm
2g edge = 1xrtt for Verizon
3g Hspa = cdma for Verizon
3.5g Hspa+42 (faux 4g) = comparable to Verizon lte in slower market.
4g lte = Verizon lte
Wideband lte (which Columbus has) is a 15x15 lte setup which is faster than standard lte.

I recently made the switch from T-Mobile to Verizon due to poor signal areas in Western PA where I travel to from Eastern Ohio. In the city T-Mobile is amazing for me, 40mbs down and 15up. Same area on Verizon 8 and 2...., however I get 4G LTE most areas and sometimes 3G, but works well. T-Mobile I couldn't even place a call...
It's unfortunate as I'd rather rock T-Mobile. Their plans are head and shoulders better. Paying 81 bucks unlimited text and voice and 1 frigging gig of data, granted I can't use it much at work, then home on wifi.
Oh well, such is life...
Well my test drive will be here tomorrow! I'm just hoping it comes before 1pm when I have to leave for work, otherwise no one will be here to sign for it ?
I'm definitely very excited to give it a try, would love to be able to not worry about my data again.. If I make the switch I'm debating on selling the m8 that I have to pay off and get the nexus 5.. I've read some stuff that people were having issues with network speeds on the nexus 5.. Anyone know if there's a specific version or something to avoid on the nexus 5? Sorry for the noob questions, it's completely different from Verizon which is what I've been with my whole life. I'm used to only being able to get your phone from Verizon instead of using unlocked phones etc..

Never had to be home for a signature for T-Mobile.
After 14 years with Sprint I switched to T-Mobile a little over a year ago. Sprint use to be good and T-Mobile sucked but now it's flipped. I drove from Columbus to Savannah GA 3 months ago and service was decent. Not sure if you have just one line but I just noticed T-Mobile dropped the family 10GB plan to $100 from $160. I have unlimited data and don't really need it but nice to have in case home internet goes down. I also have the original Jump which is nice. Only issue I had with T-Mobile is they took away my discount but I got a better one. lol Sean at the 5th Ave store is really good.
Areas where I have tested In Columbus, Ohio and should only get better with Wideband LTE. Go Buckeyes!
Upper Arlington - I live by Riverside Hospital and get great service. It's near Ohio State (the Shot and Shoe) University Square
Bethel / Sawmill Rd - Good
Hilliard / Fishinger - Great
Polaris area - Great
Dublin - I think good in most areas
Muirfield - Around Glick Rd / Jerome not so great. The low speeds on my screen shot.
Marysville - Spotty. No service at the golf clubs but that's a good thing. lol

One considetation is TMO coverage is pretty thin on the highways so if data is a consideration while traveling...TMO certainly not up to par with Verizon...
blasted by TMO G3
Thanks for the tests!
It's not really... I'm not expecting it to be the same as Verizon, but as long as I can make calls and text.. And get 4g where I work/wife works and live then I'll prolly make the jump. I also just found out Verizon phones don't work on T-Mobile which I wasn't aware of, so I'll have to end up doing something for a phone cuz I don't want to pay monthly on T-Mobile.

they didn't make me sign either, but it said in the email from tmobile that i must sign for it.
from my testing so far, I'm pretty impressed... i don't get great service in my basement which is perfect from Verizon... same with in my house in general.. i get about 25 down and 1 up but Verizon phone next to it gets 55 down and 25 up(all inside)... but outside my home I've gotten 69 down which i can sometimes achieve on Verizon. it's spotty all over the city of Powell but in the southern part of the city its pretty strong and where i work its definitely strong enough (15-25 down).. as I said though, I'm not expecting it to be comparable to Verizon.. just as long as it's good enough to work for me. I haven't had any problems with calls or texts (other than iMessage but that's due to the stupid iPhone they sent me).
now I just have to decide if i want to up my bill to get slightly worse data coverage but unlimited data... i'm on a family plan w/ 5 smartphones on Verizon and we just split the bill 5 ways which ends up being ~59/phone. So this will increase my bill for sure (only bringing two of the 5 with me to t-mobile). decisions decisions.
Thanks for all the help/opinions!
I just switched and it's been good in the city with the exception of Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. I also switched becam because T-Mobile has a better international plan.
I am hearing that verizon has to certify the P6 and P6P to get the new 5G UW to work... Anyone confirm getting 5GUW icon on their verizon P6 or P6P today if they are on an unlimited 5G plan?
I'm not. Just plan old 5G icon.
On reddit, there are people confirming getting 5G UW with the iphone 13 near me. I am going to travel there to see if I get 5G UW or not. If not most likely a radio update will enable it from Verizon in the future updates, I am guessing....

I am, but it seems Verizon has confirmed that no P6 or P6P has "Certification" to use the c-band so it looks like we have to wait for some form of update.... I am guessing a radio update.
On a different note, the c-band update from Verizon will ALSO be included in Verizon's 5G @ home. This is great, great news for people that have limited home internet options and gives you the chance to say F U to the wired home internet companies like Comcast and Comcast. Right now, if you have a 5G unlimited plan with Verizon, you can get their 5G @ home internet for $50/month with a 50% off if you are in the c-band area that activated today according to Verizon. The speeds seem to be worthy against the wired competitors.
I wish I just lived in area that HAD VZW 5G
I'm fairly sure that n77 C-Band was still not enabled in the January update.
The cacombos folks are looking for logging contributions to help confirm when it gets enabled.

It's the verge, so take it for what it's worth, but at the end of the article they verified directly with verizon that the P6 Pro is not "Certified" yet to work with c-band 77 Verge Link
I used network signal guru to determine why my work had poor 4g signal with Verizon and it kept switching me to band 66 on a further tower over band 13 on a closer tower. It was pissing me off that I couldn't turn off band 66 on my pixel 2 xl because the bandwidth was horrible based on the distance to that tower. While the few times it was on band 13 the bandwidth was great. Long story short, I loved using that app. Just wish it was easier for turning on and off certain bands on our pixel phones.
One last point on this, Verizon has been notorious for being slow on enabling radio tech going all the way back to the Verizon galaxy nexus. This goes for their carrier phones and unlocked phones. I WILL FOREVER HATE them for this, but unfortunately, they have the best coverage in the US. I wish the unlocked pixel phones had a workaround with the radios and enabling their tech without Verizon being the middle man, but it is their network. I would love to switch to T-mobile, but their signal when travelling is very subpar.

I was with T-mobile for several years for the military discount. Their speed was fantastic...if you had coverage. We switched back to VZW last year when they started doing military discounts and their speeds are half of what I was getting with TMO, but they have coverage everywhere. I am glad to see the 5g upgrade, but it will be interesting to see how long it takes to see the results on my phone.

I've designed and qualified engineering equipment for 20 years now. The FAA and the FCC are huge barriers to qualifying RF equipment. So following the FAA and the FCC to learn what new tech is passing their review has been something that has interested me for my years as an engineer.
PEA stands for Partial Economic Area as part of the FCC. This map breakdown is how the FCC determines what bandwidth (frequencies) they auction off to telecommunication companies like Verizon for reporting to the federal government. Verizon stated with FCC approval that they are turning on c-band tech in PEA markets 1 through 46 based on the PEA map. This essentially means the 46 most productive economic markets will be turned on for c-band. This map has been around since 4G and I think it's the way the federal government understands frequency deployment around the US. Link to FCC PEAs (FCC PEA link). You have to scroll down to the middle of the page under the title PEA to find the link to the map on the page I hyperlinked. As verizon turns on more markets, they will tell the FCC which PEA areas they need for approval with the FCC based on the map.
