Wiping bricked phone - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone
My 5X is bricked and completely dead, it will not boot or show any sign of life
However, I want to give the phone to a friend who will use it for parts for his phone repair store. However I have no idea how to wipe my data from the phone!
Any suggestions?

CHECK if your phone is really in that unrepairable conditon!! In most of the cases you can recover your bricked phone with some skill. Check if you can go into phone's recovery or download mode. If you dont know how, google it. If you really want to give it to friend, dont worry about data, just remove SD card, if your phone is really bricked there wont be any data on your phone memory except SD card so be sure to remove it.
However if your phone can connect to PC you can wipe data using Odin to be on safe side.

[Q] I need help. My s3 i747M shows zero signs of life.

So I wanted to install a new custom ROM and I all ready had one. It wasn't the first time. So, like usual I download the files needed and put them on my phone, boot into recovery and flash them ( but I didn't factory reset or anything because with the ROM I had I didn't need to for it to work I could just fix the not responding errors) Then i go to reboot and I wait. Nothing, nothing at all. Now I try to remove the battery and try again and now none of my buttons do ANYTHING the only sign of life there is, is when I remove the battery and plug my phone to a usb cable and attempt to charge it, all that happens is a red LED comes up. It's probably due to one of the things i installed on my phone that flashes a red LED when battery is low. Please help me with this. My last resort is to give my phone to rogers for them to fix it because I still have a warranty.
Specs: S3 i1747M Rogers
I had aokp jellybean 4.3 as my ROM
I do have a nandroid but its on my phone's sd card
Thank you for your time and I hope we get this to work.
Can you get into recovery mode or download mode?

No there's litteraly nothing I can do. pressing all the buttons does absolutely nothing. Just stays black and no signs of life
bump. I need help fast with this.
Not sure exactly what you did but I hate to say its sounds hard bricked. Mine was exactly the same, with only the red light coming on for about a minute when cord was plugged in with no battery. I screwed mine up with a file I grabbed without reading properly what it was for and in my haste I installed it. After I rebooted it never came back until I got it back from warranty with a replaced control board. Im guessing they didnt even check the internal memory or they would haven known what a dumbass i was since i voided the warranty doing stuff i had done before that mistake. Glad I had made a nandroid before i pooched it so i didnt lose anything after i got it back.
Yeah after some research I found out I hardbricked it but this isn't the first time and I had a warranty for both( different phones btw )times so I guess I'll just send it out. :c
could just be out of juice, leave it on the charger for around an hour then try and go into download mode.

have you tried charging up the phone to 100% (LEAVE IT THERE FOR 3/4 HOURS TO MAKE SURE ITS FULLY CHARGED OR UNTIL IT DISPLAYS A GREEN LED LIGHT) then then boot up, it will prompt for the password to decrypt your phone, put it then everything will be fine
after you are booted up go back to settings-security-encrypt device then follow instructions on how to decrypt your phone after you successfully follow the steps to decrypt it will shut down and bring a bar showing progress of decrypting TRUST ME DONT TOUCH IT WILL TAKE 1MIN-1HOUR
BE PATIENT
fyi this happened to me and pretty much i was feeling like i broke my phone, cried alittle but it was well worth it when i learned about that staff and fixed it later, dont worry your phone is not bricked its just encrypted (YOU CANT ACCESS THE PHONE WHEN ITS ENCRYPTED) it will boot-up after a long 100% charge but it will need you to put the password for decrption
dont panic your phone is not completely fcked

have you tried to use a USB jtag, maybe that might help or if you can get in recovery mode or safe-mode that will help you flash back to stock and fix the problem...........that does not help google is there for you, someone here in XDA will help you
if you can force the phone to download, recovery or safe-mode there is a chance the phone still has some life left in it, Plus tutorials in youtube can help with your situation......
again i got myself into the same problem and issues you currently have but i was lucky to fix it right away before i tried odin
keep trying its not bricked yet, it might work....Last resort is to take it to samsung or get a new phone or something like that will fix it

[Q] Any way to recover my photos?

I have an S4 Mini (SCH-1435) and I've started having issues where I can't get the phone to turn on past the S4 Mini logo. I'm still under warranty, so I don't mind getting a replacement or getting it fixed, but I have some photos that I never backed up that I'd like to try and get off of it first. Unfortunately I never got an external SD card for the phone, so they're all saved on the internal storage.
I've tried to boot it to Recovery Mode, and I got it there one time (I was afraid to try anything without looking into it more though) and now I can't even get it to go to that. It just flashes a message that (I believe) reads:
MMC: mmc read fail
movinand checksum confirmation fail
I can get it into Download mode, though. I've heard that there's a way to use Odin from there and your PC to flash something on without losing your data (like the photos), but I'd like to keep my warranty through Verizon (or Samsung, I'm not sure which it's really through).
Thanks in advance for any help or alternate suggestions!

No, u can`t .
All i can think off is getting CWM/TWRP and boot into that and mount USB storage. But that will void warranty in some cases ...
And if your phone is so damaged ... i am afraid u can`t even flash that
If your downlad screen is free of the word knox you flash a custom recovery and try what silviumik said

Hard bricked - options?

My at&t Galaxy S3 appears to be hard bricked. I tried using the method of using an .img file to the external SD card, yet now I'm unable to boot using that image.
Previously I was able to boot using the .img file, I did a factory reset, and now I'm stuck.
Are there any options available to me or anything else I can try?
thanks for all your help.

You would need to provide more information to let us know what went wrong and what fix to apply. What caused the brick in the first instance? After you booted the first time using the recovery image, did you do a firmware restoration which is the sure fix to getting your phone back in working order? The recovery image only lets you get the phone back into booting mode. Thereafter, you need to work your way up the rest of the food chain via full firmware restoration. If you did a factory reset/wipe without first restoring your firmware, it's possible you may have wiped the recovery image card clean. If that's the case, you would need to create a new image and repeat the process all over.
I bricked my dad's phone a while back. Couldn't get to recovery or anything. Just a blank screen, couldn't tell if it was even on or off. We ended up sending it to a guy on Ebay that has a JTAG and he was able to fix it for us. I think we only paid $25 too. Got it back working within the week.
If you would like the guys name I can find it.

I believe an JTAG will be my only option if the USB jig doesn't work any magic. The only life I get out of my phone when plugged into my computer is the USB driver and if I pull the battery while plugged in the red light shines.
Yep. That is exactly what mine did.
Debrick
I got mine unbricked by making a dedrick sd card. I used a 32gb sd and partitioned it and it worked!

Phone died from nothing. Please help

Guys I need help. My phone just died from nothing and doesen't turns on anymore! I was doing nothing but reading a Facebook post and then the screen shaked and turned off. After that I can't make it turn on!!! The charging battery doesn't appear when I connect it to the charger, but it turns on and shows a yellow triangle if I coonect it without the battery.
I am using stock V20h. What can it be? What do I do? I can't stay without my phone
Try another battery, from a friend or something... the fact that it turned off suddenly can be a battery problem.
I hope it's just a battery, good luck
Did you tried do remove the battery and put it back ?
Try to put the phone in fastboot mode and flash the stock file with lg tool and report back.
Also try to go into recovery mode if u have a custom recovery and do a full backup and then full wipe (system, data and cache)

My friend, just take it into a service center and get them to look at it
Sounds like your motherboard died on its own and most G3's are still under warranty
Thanks for the reply, guys. I've tryed all of that. Even got another battery with a friend of mine and got the same results. I'm thinking it's the motherboard too =/. Gonna take it to the LG service tomorrow. Do the fact of flashing V20h breaks my warranty?

As long it isn't rooted, your phone is under warranty as long as you have LG's original software installed. So, YES, you still have warranty
