Google Play Music - Download Issue - 8.0 - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

I installed via the OTA 8.0 and performed a factory reset after the install. As I go back through and put my music library back on my device, it appears Google Play Music stalls out at different times during the download. I have Google WiFi, +200mbps WiFi and no breaks in my WiFi connection. I have attempted to do it the Apple way by not allowing the device to lock to keep the app active but it still is stalling out.
Appears to be an app issue but wondering if anyone has a fix I should look at? Thanks!

I've had similar issues in the past with Google Play Music. Have you tried deleting the app and reinstalling it? Are you using an ad blocker?

[Q] Download or Update from Play Store with LTE

Anyone having the same trouble i do trying to downloading or updating apps from the Play Store on 4G LTE it just sits there like it's downloading but nothing happens until i switch it to WiFi and it works immediately. Yes in Play Store settings to download only on WiFi is unchecked. running stock JB rooted. Thanks in advance.
You sure its not a data network issue? That's what it sounds like.
Data works fine no problems at all.Just with Play Store.
Anyone else having this problem, it also happens on 3g. So it only downloads our update apps in WiFi. I've cleared data and cache rebooted and nothing works. I can't believe I'm the only one having this issue. Stock rooted and only WiFi tether app installed. Thanks in advance.

Okay, problem solved.
It turns out that my issue was a direct cause of my tinkering with data usage settings.
I had accidentally set the "restrict background data" option in data usage settings for Media. Media contains the component 'Download Manager' and 'Downloads' and when I decided to remove all background data restrictions last night, downloads on the play store worked again.

[Q] Various Google services not working

Hi all,
My first post! I have a new Galaxy Note II LTE version (N7105) that's having some google problems. I've read through just about everything I could find, but nothing is working for me, so I hope someone here can help!
Whenever I'm on 3G/HSPA/HSPA+, various Google services don't work fully. Things I've noticed so far:
Play store will open and show the opening page, but fails to connect to display any app info or pictures (no error 495, just connection timeout); oddly, I can go on my computer and install an item from the Play store website and it will download almost instantly to my phone.
Gmail will open and receive messages just fine, but won't send until I connect to LTE or wifi (though it says it's sending)
I can perform a normal google search, but when I try to switch to images, the connection fails
I can search in Maps, but driving directions fail; navigation works, though
The weird thing is that LTE or wifi work just fine for all of the above. I can do everything else as normal on 3G - no problems viewing webpages or using Whatsapp, for example.
I've tried clearing app caches and resetting the phone, rooting & using Set DNS, deleting & recreating APNs, all to no avail. Please, can anyone help?

Connection problem. Go to settings/apps/all apps and clear data of Google Services Framework. That sometimes helps, you may have to do that af few times though.
Make sure to wipe all apps from the cache too (pressing and holding home button and select all apps).

Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately, that put the Google Play Store into an endless force-close loop and I ended up having to reset the phone. Even after a reset, though, it's still having the connection problems. I'm starting to think it might just be something with my service provider...
You have to flash back stock rom or any other custom rom.

Easy fast simple solution when this occurs and usually after an update. Just uninstall the app completely and then go back to google play store and redownload the app.
Have a great day!
I have been tried all the way ( clear, uninstall update etc) but still error... I tried to install other program 'tubemate' still cant connect /play the video, but when i download the video first and play later is no problem..
Maybe something wrong with my data package on my carrier??? Hmmm..
Thanks for all advise...

Same issue here. Reinstalling doesn't fix it.
Edit: But disabling Adblock Plus does fix it.

Ty, I've been hunting for a solution for some time now, and I didn't think of something like that.... It is true, when I disabled AdBlock Plus, I didn't see the error again.
Guess I either need a replacement for Adblock Plus, or something in it's settings to change?? hmmmm.
Again though, thanks again!!!!
:good::good::good::good::good::laugh:
wow thanks for this. It's been driving me insane. I removed Adblock Plus and it worked. So I installed AdAway and rebooted. Seems to still work fine also. So try that ad blocking app out. So far so good.
Solved ! ( apparently not related to AdBlockPlus)
To make a long story short, I don't have AdBlockPlus but i DO have DroidWall installed.
just forgot I had to allow "MediaServer" to access the internet (as well as YouTube of course) - problem solved.
This has been happening to me. I fixed it by going to manage apps. YouTube, Delete cache, delete data, uninstall updates and I clicked the turn off button. Ran cleanmaster app and removed junk files. Then I rebooted and turned youtube back on and now videos will play. I'm on the Galaxy S4 stock.
Hopefully this helps someone
By the way Facebook wouldn't play any videos it would say "can't play video" and now Facebook is playing the same videos that it couldn't before.

Thanks that did it for me as well. Have been searching on the internet but no real solution for people with a firewall or a privacy app (pdroid/xprivacy etc). But this made it work on my S4.
Thanks!

How about upgrading from that dinosaur you're using? Gingerbread is like 4 years outdated.
No AdBlock, Firewall, root or custom ROM
I have stock device 4.3 android (not Samsung btw.). As i said, no adblock/firewall/custom rom etc.
When I updated YouTube app, I got that connection problem.
I've tryed reinstalling, changing DNS1 and 2, clearing data... Nothing helped...
Any suggestions?

It's happening to me now too. But since mine's installed as a User App and not a System App, I can't just uninstall the updates, although I did try uninstalling it completely and reinstalling. No joy.
I've tried a dozen different things. You should know that lots of people post lots of "solutions", but for 95% of the users, none of them work.
I'm hurting especially bad, because it happens to me on both types of connections (4G & WiFi). I even tried a 3rd party YouTube app and that wouldn't work either.
All this since today's (or last night's?) v10.25.57 YouTube update!
I am running a Samsung.
Samsung Galaxy (SGH-M819N) Mega
KitKat 4.4.4 (Stock), Rooted
Thank You.

Hi,
I tried disabling AdAway and reverting back to the original Hosts file, but no joy.
This time, it's affecting both my 4G & WiFi connections. When this happened before, I could at least watch it on 4G.
The weird thing is, that if I'm not signed in, I can watch videos. But once I sign in, EVEN WHEN USING A 3RD PARTY YOUTUBE APP, I have the problem!
Yes, eventually a YouTube update will come through that will fix it (could be 6 months or so), but I'm thinking that something "underneath" it all got updated/changed at the same time, because otherwise;
Why would it affect me only when I sign in?
And if it was limited to only the YouTube app being updated and there isn't anything else being changed at the same time in the background where you don't see it, then how could 3rd party YouTube apps be affected when you sign in to them with your Google (Gmail) account?
See what I mean? Something else, "under the hood" simply must be going on, amen?

Problems with Games app

Hey all,
I'm having problems with the Games app on my Surface 2. Signing in to my account keeps failing. I had the same problem with the Music app, so I deleted both apps and reinstalled them. Installing the apps from the Store also failed a couple of times but eventually they downloaded and installed just fine. Now I can sign in to the Music app, but still no luck in the Games app... any thoughts?
Edit: Music app does not play songs when I browse the online library... every song gets an exclamation mark next to it. Also, Games, Video and Music refused to open due to an error... so I had to reinstall again which took a while because it kept failing. Seriously, what's wrong with these built in apps?
Sounds more like a network issue if store apps are failing to install and your unable to browse the online music library.

Play Store Crashing

Has anyone started experiencing this within the last few days? I generally know my way around Android, and I've tried several troubleshooting steps, which I'll outline below, but to no avail. It's random, but persistent, with no recent updates to the system.
•Tried clearing phone cache from bootloader.
•Tried force-closing Play Store + Play Services, and clearing cache for both.
•Tried booting to safe mode, it still happens.
•The only recent app I've installed is for a Ravpower portable filehub/router. Note: no crashing occurred after this app was installed.
•Tried removing all updates for both aforementioned apps, and allowing them to reinstall the current version.
•Tried installing and running 2 different apps that provide analysis on version and other potential conflicts for Play Store/Services, ran all applicable items.
The obvious statement to make is that I'm hoping to avoid a factory reset. I loathe all the work after restoring what's available between Google and Samsung backups. If anyone has any pro tips, please enlighten me!
Edit: this is the 5G variant, carrier is AT&T, and firmware is N976USQS2BTE3.

Drat. It seemed to have worked for me, because the play store was crashing again after I reset my phone, as soon as I'd reinstalled a few unsanctioned APKs.

I think it's the store. The most recent update to the store is when it broke
Are you using any overlay? Custom themes as the ones from Hex Installer, Synergy, Substratum lite

I am running the most recent store, and all is fine, something else must be the issue
I figured it out. It was a rogue app trying to auto update over wifi while I was on mobile data but the play store wouldn't let me see what app it was.
Good to see you found the cause, btw, which app caused the trouble? Just to be aware of it
Circling back to this. The issue has returned for me, and having already gone through the painstaking process of resetting my phone, and reinstalling everything, I have two theories but can really only test one of them reliably:
1. VPN - I use ExpressVPN, and I noticed that sometimes the Play Store crashes in a never ending fashion and sometimes I can go hours or more without it happening. This could be due to my VPN preventing some kind of connection, maybe? Despite the fact that the Play Store opens fine, and will even allow me to scan for updates and begin to apply them if I'm quick enough before it crashes. *I'm testing this theory now by trying different tunnels within ExpressVPN*
2. An application. Without divulging more than I care to, I definitely have apps that can't be found in the Play Store. They're plenty safe, but I could see there potentially being conflict there somehow in terms of Play Store maybe trying to reconcile them when it's compiling apps. This would be almost impossible to troubleshoot without uninstalling all non-Play Store apps, then reinstalling one by one, waiting several hours, then repeating the process until an app is installed that once again causes Play Store to crash.
Another update: among the items I've tried this morning, I can effectively eliminate the VPN theory that I previously posted. I discovered it didn't matter if I was connected to VPN or not. I also discovered that the YouTube Vanced application was likely the culprit, as once I unlinked and relinked my Google account within it, the Play Store doesn't seem to be constantly crashing. Time will tell, as I don't know if this actually fixed it, or if it's just coincidence. Something for others to check on, if they happen to use the YouTube vanced application.
One of the other things I did was to follow the instructions on the Google support page that outlines how to troubleshoot Play Store crashing. This included removing all updates to the Play Store, and allowing it to update itself again. So, I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the crashing ceasing either.
