Cellular strength and throughput - Sony Xperia XZ Real Life Review

We know how much you like to stream, ahem, "videos", and so cellular data is mega-important. Rate this thread to express how you think the Sony Xperia XZ's LTE performs. A higher rating indicates that it's fantastic: throughput is excellent and signal strength is top-notch.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add.

I have almost no strength of my signal so how i can fix that, anyone knows ?

You could just tell the company. Many years ago I had an Ericsson T10 and it had the same problem. I took it to Ericsson (Hellas) and the just changed the sensor. It worked.

Compared to my previous devices, an LG G2 and a motorola G 3rd gen, signal's weaker.

[q] poor wifi signal? any solution?

hi boys.
I'm using civato rom and kernel on my n5100 but with stock too I have a weak wifi signal.
my wifi reception is weaker than my Samsung galaxy SII.
I'm crazing.. how is possible that a new device could have a weaker wifi signal than and old one?
sometimes I lost wifi reception or it is slow...
do you notice this problem, a not so good wifi module?
any solution or suggestions?
thanks a lot!

The solution is to improve your router or improve the positioning of your router. If you're on public wifi, try to get closer to the source. While mobile devices all suffer from weaker wifi reception when compared to laptops of desktops due to power consumption compromises, there is nothing inherently wrong with the Note 8.
If your router is buried behind the monitor or is otherwise obstructed, you can significantly improve signals by just moving it to a higher and unobstructed position. If you have a garbage router, you'll get garbage signal. Garbage in = garbage out.

my galaxy s2 has a better wifi signal than note8, how do you explain?
do you notice a weaker signal in your note in comparison with your smartphone for example?

Don't look at the signal bars as a hard indicator. They are just a graphic representation of thr signal strength or signal to noise ratio. What that means is 3 bars for example is a range and not a single number. What it also means is that it's a subjective reading. For example, an AOSP ROM may display 2 bars for the same signal strength as touchwiz that displays 3 bars. So get an objective measurement. Either find an app that willngive you the actual signal to noise ratio, or simply run a speed test. If both phones test similar, it makes no difference how many bars they show. Of course there may be minor variations in each device as far as reception goes, but it should be similar overall.

obviously I'm speaking after many tests.
With different wifi analyzer apps the result is the same.
In areas of home in which my tablet has more difficulties his signal is around 10 dBm less than my Galaxy S2. (for example note8 84 dBm vs 72 galaxy s2)
For this reason I'm telling you that I'm not happy of its wifi, I don't know if a hardware problem and if bringing it to Samsung assistance.
what do you think, can you do similar tests with your smartphone?
Thx!

I ran a wifi signal app on both the Note 8 and my Galaxy S4. I don't have an S3 to test unfortunately. The results I got were similar, 69 vs 67 dbm respectively. This was far away from a low end router. Before you try to get service on your tab, try the comparison with a different router, such as friend's or a public hotspot. Lets rule out your router as the reason for the signal drop. Maybe your phone can better handle a weaker signal or has a higher power wifi module or better antenna.

i took a time to test my wifi
my note 8 wifi is always around 10 dBm less than my Galaxy S2.
it seems a sort of shield, or obstacle that covers my wifi module
i don't know if it has a weaker module or an hardware problem, but I'm asking to myself could be differences between different notes 8? i don't think you have problems who i have...
i don't know if samsung assistance could fix my problem or joke me

I also notice this problem, my old S6 Edge+ has no issues with wifi in 1 room of my house, the Note8 sometimes completely fails to download web pages in the same room.

Should I get one?

Hi guys, so I've got the chance to get either an HTC M8 or an LG G3 and I'm leaning towards the LG but I'd like to know how it works and if I should invest my money in one... I would really appreciate the feedback (also sorry if this post wasn't supposed to be here, I'm a newbie [emoji28])
Enviado desde mi D6603 mediante Tapatalk
If you care my words, don't ever buy G3. It's overheat so much, it eats battery so much. So please don't buy G3 stay away from it.
Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate your advice... Those are really different positions but definitely help at seeing the pros and cons of the device... Thanks ?

I'm getting one today. I already read the posts about temperature issues, but I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it won't be too bad. The user experience seems to differ allot so I'm gonna take that chance. I'm not a high demand user so with some performance tweaks it will be fine. A quick search on the HTC M8 finds overheating issues as well so you would have to go through the forums to find out which has more potential issues.

I couldn't do much research about the experience so I came right away here, thing is that I was leaning for the G3 as well since it does seem like the better phone compared to HTC, I mean even the camera is definitely better and what I really like is that the battery is removable... So even with the heating problem it's still a solid device.
Enviado desde mi D6603 mediante Tapatalk
Do you need more good camera, removable battery and bigger screen in same size of a phone or better sound, build quality with better battery life and more fluid UI? Its simple as that, I was considering to buy G3 or M8, and got G3 month ago, its ok, have some cons like every other phone. Every phones heats when you use it for some time. I just like how G3 looks and feels with that big 5,5 screen. Also some cons of M8 and HTCs market situation had some influence to get G3. Hope I helped

I get you, I have had the same "problem" as you, but I think G3 is more future proof, and it is better on paper when you read specs, but M8 is strong competitor, and more fluid because of smaler and lower resolution screen, also its the reason for better battery life. G3 UI is more interesting with more tweaks without root, and I like back buttons. Try them both in some store if you can, It will maybe help u decide.

As far as I know, all Snapdragon 801 devices have some overheating issues. My friend with the Z2 has the same problem, many G3 and M8 owners have the problem. I used the phone fairly heavily yesterday, and it did get a bit hot. But it wasn't too hot.

I heard that some owners of Z2 bought G3 because Z2 was too hot, so I guess G3 is not the worst one. Its general problem with SD, just look at SD810, thats why Samsung and othes are now making their own processors.
m1l4droid said:
Well Snapdragon 810 is a furnace. It gets so hot it has to throttle to cool down, making utilizing phones lag. AFAIK all 810 using phones start to lag after some time of usage. This is why LG opted for the less powerful albeit much more stable 808 on the G4. Wise choice if you ask me. It may not offer the initial power of 810 before it starts throttling, but at least it won't start throttling that badly to begin with.
Oh and about the G3 battery, today it gave 12 hours of battery with over 6 hours of screen time, WiFi almost on constantly. I think that's normal, but I think it's rather premature to judge, considering I had the phone for 1 day.

I agree about G4, its G3 with better camera and SD808.
My best is about 5h SOT with about 1 day of usage, how you get 6h of SOT its impossible for me, whats your brightness and usage, done something to it or all stock?
Well I got the G3 [emoji1] went to the store to test it and the screen is simply amazing... Besides it's not as heavy as other phones and it's better in terms of internal storage compared to HTC.

I got the G3 since few months, never had heating problems or battery life issues, it works for 3 days some times before i have to charge it.
IMHO, if I should buy a smartphone today, i will buy an asus zenfone2, i saw the 4gbram version for 50€ less than what i paid for the G3...

Works like a charm actually, battery life is great and last night I was using it as a hotspot while downloading music and apps and the heating issue never appeared (maybe because it's new, but let's be honest other phones overheat for nothing)... It does look great you know I searched for it online and it looks quite functional and the 2.3 Ghz processor plus the 4GB ram are really attractive, but thing is I live in South America so here even LG phones are just being introduced per se, it's unusual to even see a Moto and HTC or even a Nexus.

Last night I was listening music and searching stuff online for about an hour or so and lost like 3 percent its crazy, other phones drain for just being on stand by hahaha... I've got a z3 that my office gave me as a corporate phone and LG is definitely far better in terms of performance.

Well the brightness level was almost 0% so maybe that's why also location was off just as WiFi (data only), and headphones were on a relatively low volume... Don't know man, worked for me that way.

I don't want to give up yet, i have until middle of next month to return it i'm thinking of getting either Samsung Note 4 or Asus Zenfone 2 if i do return it.

Le Pro3 vs OnePlus 3T.

Hello Le Pro3 users.
I am making this thread to inform anyone that may be willing to downgrade to a OP3T that they really shouldn't. Now, I've tested both phones a bit and I can safely say for mobile and WiFi performance on the Left Pro3 is drastically better than the OP3T. For example, I've attached to screenshots of WiFi performance for both devices, without a case, side by side on a flat surface. This is in the room furthest away from my router in my house.
You can see in the screenshots that the LePro3 consistently holds onto a signal much better than the OP3T in all scenarios. This shows that my phone (if my ISP had these speeds) can pull up to 520mbps over WiFi ac. In the same spot, the OP3T gets 32mbps (pitiful!). Meanwhile the LTE signal is also more consistent on the LePro3 whereas the signal reading is on average 10dBm better with a noticeably better SNR (signal to noise ratio.) This means speed-wise over LTE and on fringe signals, the LePro3 is a better device in the LTE department (I also couldn't get CA working on the LePro3 for T-Mobile.)
Something else I noticed is that MMS on the device is a real problem. Adjusting APNs and having to turn off WiFi to receive MMS was a hassle. WiFi calling was also inconsistent, often cutting out during talking. I haven't had this issue with the LePro3.
Bluetooth is the last part I had issues with. I use Android Auto in my car which requires a physical connection + Bluetooth but for whatever reason my Bluetooth would not connect in my car, unless I power cycled my car system or re-added my OP3T in the settings of my car...Very tedious.
OP3T does have great battery life, but the Pro3 is better. I will say that OP3T has better dev support and that's really the only thing it has going for it. The 2GB difference in ram is negligible since you won't run out of RAM with 4GB anyways before the power saving steps kick in.
Just figured I'd share. I'm going to list my OP3T on Swappa shortly.

Nougat is nice and I agree that their stock OS is great, but the stock OS is subjective. I've gotten quite accustomed to EUI (although I still prefer AOSP.). It's just a different user interface.
That said, I'd take great wireless performance over a pretty OS any day. ?
I've been holding onto my LePro 3 also. It's a great phone and has everything I need in a phone. The Snapdragon 821 is clocked higher on the LePro 3. It's the ONLY non-AT&T branded phone that supports VoLTD/HDVoice on their network. The battery life is fantastic. Love the CDLA headphones.
Agree. Bought this LePro3 on a lark when it went on Flash Sale on US store. Compared to my S7 Edge and recently acquired OPT3, I find myself using the LeEco more than the others due to the speed, fluidity and battery life. Everything just works and the hardware is very premium.

My experience exactly as well. If I was looking at buying one or the other I suppose I would maybe get a 3T. But after having a LP3 and using it since launch I'd happily keep it. I don't think I'd even trade for a 3T. Especially with the ROM support that the LP3 has already. Resurrection Remix (using currently and LOVING)! CM, Slim, MIUI, 7.1 AOSP, various highly tweaked and optimized Eui builds. Not really any software advantage as long as you're a flasher. Better battery life, same speed. Only thing I don't like is low light shots are pretty bad. Bezels could be smaller too but not that bad.
It's much cheaper so those are very acceptable trade offs IMO.

That's why I'm keeping my x720. Never loses wifi signal quality in bed (my bed is in a corner which is horribly placed to hinder wifi signals). Never had an issue with bluetooth or connectivity though.
I'd say only departments in which Le-Pro 3 lacks is camera quality & OS. Though alot of people here are accostmed to EMUI, MIUI so EUI wont be a problem for them. I'm just a google-play guy so CM fits the definition for me. Thank you for making me thankful for my Le Pro 3.

is it an x720 or x727?
i read about huawei mate series that has stronger signal with the chinese version over international one...what i want to say is that maybe they limit SAR value with international version over the chinese one( x720 ).
Anyway we are talking about different phones and it's difficult talk about SAR values, i have an x720 and i'm happy with signal strength of wifi and lte.

I do know the Hauwei mate series are excellent phones. My buddy has a Mate 9 and it's phenomenal. I've seen it trounce his iPhone 7+ in a round of speed tests (not benchmarks but actual app opening, scrolling through gallery etc). That's tough to do, as boring and limited as iPhones are, they're still very fast.
The camera on it is killer too. But it's over twice the price of a Le Pro for a shred extra speed and better camera. Not worth it IMO unless you can afford it easily and need that extra 0.03 seconds faster app opening.
Btw it was just said in the news that LeEco has apparently been sneaking industry secrets from Hauwei among others.... Maybe some Mate DNA in our phones already

Has XA1 weaker signal than other phones?

Hi,
I'm thinking of buying Xperia XA1, but two facts hold me from purchase. The touchscreen issue may be only on some batch from factory, but I've read about weak signal reception compared to other phones. If you have XA1, can you evaluate, how strong signal is (2G, 3G, LTE)? If you have some other phone near you, can you compare? Thank you very much.

And my Z.
And my Mini Pro..
There might be slight differences but I haven't noticed anything major.

Thx, it looks promising. I'm torn apart between Xperia XA1 and Huawei Nova. I must say that I like the appearance of Sony more.
I see no issues with my XA1 and my Z5. In fact, i think the Z5 has weaker signal (fewer bars) in my area than the XA1. But in terms of speed and coverage they seem identical to me.
No issues around signal quality.
XA1 has signal quality equal to MiniPro and E1 ,
better than Active or RedMi 2 .
Tested on all three types of networks and two different carriers.

GPS accuracy

Can anyone test the GPS accuracy using GPStest apk the only dual GPS app compatible for now. We want to know if it's 10x more accurate then other phone or only bull **** like xiaomi mi 8
Bumping this question up... I'm really looking forward to hearing how accurate the Huawei implementation of "dual frequency" GPS is.
For many people in the US...the extra accuracy is NOT a problem...... However, in downtown Tokyo or Manila....after you've walked around the block 3 times while following G Map's "bouncing blue GPS dot" in 35 degree heat / 99% humidity...accurate GPS *is* a big deal. To recap - the dual frequency should minimize reflections of the GPS signal and in theory lead to 30 cm accuracy.
NOTE- only a few cities worldwide are served by dual frequency satellites at this time. Where you do the GPS accuracy checks will matter. For more info on the precision of dual frequency GPS...see this cute demo. Can't vouch for its accuracy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mI0TdX7HCwU
I'll try in a little but I can tell you it locked near instantly in my garage where I can't even get xm radio..
Edit:
See a ton of EU, US, and Russian Sats and a few chinese
What exactly am I looking for to tell you?
Thank you for your reply! If your location is served by the dual frequency satellites..... when you enlarge/embiggen/zoom in with G Maps....your phone SHOULD be able to tell you when you've moved from one parking space to the one RIGHT NEXT to the first one. In other words...in theory, there is 30 cm (12 inch) accuracy for your position....NOT the current 3 to 24 foot "radius" of error that current consumer smartphone GPS provides. For USA drivers this will be a big help because it will give you "lane level" accuracy. This is doubly important b/c in large cities with skyscrapers and multi level expressways, there are tremendous problems with reflected/bounced signals and the infamous BLUE DOT may or may not be anywhere near where it says you are...
Downside is that accuracy can be so good...if nefarious actors want you....they can land a drone on your head.. instead of just "nearby" you.

I went outside and the radius around the dot in maps became very small. Walked to one side of my driveway to the other and the dot matched me near perfectly.
Your results are encouraging. Thank you for checking. Hope we can get more input/feedback from other users to find out if this "dual frequency GPS" feature is as valuable as it is purported to be.
Better but not cm accuracy
I have compared my mate 20 pro to Samsung s6 and yes the dual GPS improves remarkably. Using two different GPS. Testing apps I had 3-4m accuracy with mate 20 pro versus 4-9m with s6. It picked up a few more satellites but more. Importantly it was very fast to get a lock. No waiting 2 minutes. A lock was within 2 seconds.
Still I've not been. Able to see any sub metre accuracy yet. I am in the southwest UK.
Maybe GPS Test app will help? ^^
I did using Mi 8 and OP5 for a short period of time, the Mi 8 got 4mts-12mts sometimes, the OP5 got 16-40mts sometimes, the differency is big, didn't got my Mate 20X yet, but soon i'1ll have it

Great. Can you share screenshoot of the accuracy you will get once you get mate 20x and mi 8, using GPStest app. Thank you

Thanks to all for getting this info out there. KInd of disappointed that once again, the accuracy & precision is much less than what was advertised. Nice to have the speedy lock but would be much nicer to have the speedy lock, accuracy and precision..
Huawei also <ahem> stretched the truth about the Mate 9 being able to use Galileo GPS for accuracy. Everyone using a Mate 9 could not report good news on getting/using Galileo sats or any better accuracy that any other no name phone.

Use GPStest app. The only dual GPS app until now that can get the true accuracy

Actually, there are 2 apps with the same name on PS
- GPSTest (this one support dual-band gps)
- GPS Test (blue circle icon with dots inside, doesn't support dual-band)
Here's the direct link to the correct app on PS:

Would help if everyone posted what city they were in so we know which countries and which cities are are capable of taking advantage of this new dual GPS service
I have no clue to most of the numbers, just sharing what I've got in Singapore.

Switching from Mate 10 Pro, I found that my Mate 20x GPS is less sensitive. Indoors, Mate 10 Pro picked up GPS faster, while mate 20x took longer for a fix and lost location more often. Little disappointing, but it is what it is.
Outdoor, Mate 20x gets more sattelite locks though.

I know that my LG v30 is horrible for GPS lock. Takes 3 minutes usually.
Mate 20 x takes seconds.
I'm in the USA
Very bad gps location when using Huawei built-in camera, even in open space. 50-150 away from actual location.
Accurate GPS location when using other apps, such as GPS Status, UltraGPS.
