Send screen unlock passcode with damaged screen? - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

HI All -
First time poster, but I've been here many many times with this Pixel. Thanks for all your help.
So I cracked my screen on my Pixel, and now it's bleeding purple. The touchscreen isn't working enough to put in the unlock code, and since it was rebooted it needs that before I can use fingerprint etc.
I'm wondering if there's a way/program/whatever to send the unlock code to a Pixel via the USB. I have a "trusted computer" that should be able to Bluetooth once the initial unlock is done. The objective is to backup some pictures that I took this weekend before having the screen replaced. (Had a bad experience losing data last time with a different phone.)
Any suggestions?
Thanks all!
Will

Use a otg dongle and a mouse. I have done this a few times with other phones.

Is there any reason your photos wouldn't automatically be backed up to Google Photos? With the Pixel you get unlimited original quality backup of photos for free and I think the phone is set to automatically back up your photos unless you actually turn the feature off.

[Q] recover data, dead screen

I'm trying to help a friend recover mainly pictures from her phone. She dropped it down some carpeted steps and now the screen is dead. To avoid paying $200ish to replace the screen or turning in the phone to get a new one (right now), her main goal is to get the photos. The phone is unrooted and has a lock code. What can be done or steps to get inside the internal drive?

You should be able to hook it up to your computer via USB and copy the photos to the computer. I do that all the time and don't have to unlock the phone to do so.

broken screen how can I backup?

Happy New Year, early....
So, I slipped down my basement stairs with my note 4 in my back pocket. Toast.
But it's on, I'm getting notifications just have no screen.
Is there a way to backup my data, contacts, pics, sms, etc without turning on ADB debugging? Also, there is a lockscreen <pattern> but can't do that or the numbers backup method. Can't seem to find a way to get my screen to my pc without ADB. Just frustrating.
Can VZ do it when my Assurion replacement comes on Sat?
Any help would be appreciated.
Verizon can probably help, but not for cheap. You could try kies to backup your data. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think you need to enable usb debugging for it. To get past the lock screen, if you have an otg cable you can plug in a keyboard and use the backup password. They are usually under 5 dollars.

Data backup - phone on, screen broken, touch not working

Hello,
As you probably already read in the title I have a problem. Yesterday my loving MI6 fell on a stone and the screen broke. Fortunately the phone is still on.
The Screen will go on but I can only see pink lines and no image. Touch is not working. The fingerprint sensor seems to work randomly (I get a vibrate feedback) but I guess because of the cracks it doesn’t recognize my fingerprint.
My biggest concern now is to get the data of my phone. Of course, just connecting it to a computer doesn’t work because I would have to unlock the phone and set it to data transfer. Right now the computer recognizes the phone but the drive doesn’t show anything.
I thought about booting into TWRP and connecting it to the computer but TWRP also requires an unlock which I cannot try because of the broken touch.
Any ideas how I can get my data back?
Are there any adb commands that I can use?
I am on LOS15 (TWRP installed).
Thank you for your help!
Update:
Just wanted to let anyone know who get stuck with the same problem. I couldn’t get the data from the phone. I tried several things with data rescue tools and remote control tools for android but nothing worked.
So in the end I bought a new LCD screen on eBay and replaced it. Phone works great again and eventually I was able to access all my data.

Question Screen not working unable to get into the phone

Hi, I need help and looked almost everywhere for answers. For the past few days, I've been trying to recover the photos and videos on my phone. The screen went completely black last week and I've restarted it thinking this would fix the problem. It didn't and now I can't even get past the PIN unlock. The phone still works when connecting with an HDMI cable, but I'm unable to get past the pin unlock.
I tried using an HDMI adapter hub and connected with a keyboard to no avail. The keyboard powered on, but anything I tried pressing on my keyboard the phone didn't respond to the keys, numbers, and all. Also even tried using a mouse.
I also tried using Samsung Dex, but I just couldn't get past the startup PIN.
What can I do to retrieve my files?
A data recovery specialist may be able to retrieve them.
Always regularly and redundantly backup critical data.Another disadvantage of not having a SD card slot as it's data if unencrypted it would by accessible
Thank you for your kind response. Would it be possible to have the screen fixed then I'd be able to have a working phone?
You're welcome.
Perhaps. That may increase the risk of data lose though. If it was me I would have written the lost data off already. I've lost a database that was 30 yo and not replaceable. Some lessons are learned the hard way.
Man, that's a terrible and awful lesson to learn. But you are right, that's the hard way. I'm going to try one last thing, I can't give up, I'm going to purchase a wireless keyboard and pray that I can type my pin in.

You can also connect a USB mouse, but then you have to find out where on the screen the numbers normally appear.

I'm thrilled that my solution worked! I'm now using Samsung DEX in combination with a universal adapter hub, a wireless mouse, and keyboard, and transferring files to an external SSD. I am grateful for the advice provided by others.
Edit: After further exploration, I've realized the solution was even when the screen was black. I can still swipe up and type my pin blindly while using Samsung Dex. (The screen isn't active when not in Dex, but in Dex, it works somehow.)
Edit2: The only way to get past my pin was to blindly type my pin like this the way to get access to my phone data was to blindly accept the access from computer. (I say blindly because I could not see the what I was pressing and it was just through memory that I was able to do it)
Edit 3: If you are suffering from a dead screen issue and are unable to access the data from your phone, there is still hope. But first, you must remember your pin and where each press goes. Although you cannot see your screen, swipe up (this would allow you to type your pin). Type your pin, and if done correctly you have unlocked your phone (although you cannot see this). You should however be able to access your phone through Samsung Dex, see your screen, and access your files. Sometimes Samsung Dex just doesn't want to work. It's okay, now, connect your phone to your computer. You should see your internal storage. If not, then your phone is asking permission. (You can't see this) Simply tap on the bottom right of your phone to OK the permission. I hope this was helpful. Thank you
Some notes; a day before my screen went completely black, the top half of my phone was not touchable (the touch screen just didn't want to work.) I was very lucky the bottom half to type my pin was still working even though I could not see (just through memory).
Kindly change the thread to SOLVED thank you

Display randomly stopped working and I’m screwed.

Hello there fellow M51 users. I’ve been using the M51 ever since it launched. all was good, until last month, the display just stopped working. Took it to Samsung service centre, and they said it was the display. Kinda frustrating how it just stopped working despite having no physical damages. Anyways, I set out to find an aftermarket display as replacement, as the original one from samsung costs wayy more than the phone’s current resale value. After installing the 3rd party display, the phone turned on (in safe mode?) and then turned off a few seconds after I got into the home screen. This kept on happening as i tried restarting. I also noticed the phone get unusually hot. Now a dialogue box saying “Serious software issue detected” pops up while booting with a “Check for updates” prompt. I believe it is updated to the latest version. Is there any way over this? The technician suggests we do a factory reset, but I have 5 years worth of valuable data in there. Can I at least be able to retrieve the data? Should i try using an original display, would that solve this? Technicians locally are unbothered and lazy to help, so I hope someone can help me from here. Thanks a lot in advance.
Welcome to XDA.
If it will boot into safe mode you can get the data.
If you get into safe mode don't power it down, grab the data. Go into safe mode, if it crashes in safe mode you got big problems...
In the future redundantly backup all critical data otherwise sooner or latter you will likely lose it.
If you have expandable storage always use it as a data drive; all critical goes here, don't encrypt it, and then backup the SD card data on a regular basis. Many time if the OS or phone crashes/burns the SD card and its data are still intact.

I have a 3rd party display in my M51, it is LCD, you can take it the guy who fixed it and he'll have a solution. My phone works fine except sometime when i use a "amoled specific feature" the display goes blank and i need to hard reboot.
