i dropped my phone and since then the screen refuses to turn on. it seems like everything is working fine except the screen. calls are coming through and im able to answer the call as long as i swipe at the right spot. is this something that can be fixed instead of swapping out the phone? if this cant be fixed and i have to get a new unit, can the sprint technicians be able to somehow transfer everything over to the new phone? btw, my phone is rooted with cwm installed and nandroid backed up to internal storage since i have no sd card installed.
If you can connect via USB you can grab the data from internal storage possibly, but it sounds like, at best, your display has a hardware issue ( strange that the touch works but the display doesn't)
But I see a trip to the phone store in your future.
If you can, I'd recommend booting to the boot loader (pwr-voldown) and using Odin to flash a stock from first so you can at least have the chance of getting a warranty replacement. ("Not sure what happennes, the screen just doesn't work anymore...")
Good luck.

Sounds like something with the connection between the LCD and the motherboard. You could get lucky and only have to reconnect the LCD's ribbon connection, however, if the LCD is cracked in any way, it would have to be a replacement, that is, if they allow replacements on cracked LCDs. Every ASC location is different. The only way to transfer anything would be to connect it to a PC, like he said in the above post, and hope it connects as USB storage by default. Copy everything to the desktop and then drag-and-drop onto the new phone's storage. But dude, get an SD card. It really makes EVERYTHING so much easier when transferring to a new phone.
The LED back light system and the touchscreen are independent of each other. Sounds to me like the connection to the back lights and the power got disconnected.

that is exactly what it seems like. can i take it into a sprint store and have it repaired or do i need to send it off?
As long as there is no physical damage then I would say its repairable. If you have ever seen a smartphone dissembled you should go check it out on you tube. Alot of the connectors are very small and easily popped out.
Hello there.
I was burning rubber at my local go-karting track last night and stupidly left my phone in my pocket. There was a little "inconsiderate" driving and now I've got a Galaxy Nexus with no display.
I know the rest of the phone is still working so I'm wondering what data I'll be able to salvage from the phone and how.
I'm planning to get it repaired by Samsung (for around £150!!) so I'm wondering if I should unroot and revert to stock or will they not mind? Again any tips on how this would be done would be great.
Thanks for reading

Could use the ADB backup (either with the tool linked above, or manually).
Then you can unroot/flash stock with Fastboot. Screen isn't required if all of your buttons and USB port still work.
Ok, so half a year ago i used my xperia arc for a couple of minutes, locked it. And then when i was about to unlock it just 2 minutes later the phone started vibrating, the slide to unlock button was blinking and the lower part of the screen was not responding to my touch.
I could however unlock the phone by swiping my finger from left to right about 2,5cm higher than the swipe to unlock button is located.
.
I delivered it to service and they told me it was water damage to the motherboard, and that i had to get a new phone. (I dont think its water damage, since the water sensors where triggered when i lost the phone in the snow half a year before this happened, and at the time the screen malfunctioned the phone had been dry for ages)
I now own a iPhone 5, but it would be nice to have a phone i could use when in dangerous situations, camping in the forest, skiing etc.
Now i have tried to connect my Arc to the pc and opened up pc companion, but i have lost the SIM card a long time ago, and i can not enter the unlock pattern on my phone due to the weird screen, so i am not able to troubleshoot the phone via that program.
So i was wondering if there is any chance for me to rescue my phone, either it is software or screen replacement i need.
(If a new SIM is needed for troubleshooting i can just go to the store and get one)
I can also upload a video of the phone if that would be to any help.
Edit: Seems like every time i touch the upper/middle part of the screen the lower part of the screen also registers my touch.
Thank you for helping me out with this troublesome issue.

Use the youtube video feature on the forum.
Take the video code and put it between youtube tags, for example
If video's link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmvCpR45LKA, then the video code is everything after =, in this case it is
JmvCpR45LKA

So you have to put it between youtube tags, like this
Code:
[ YOUTUBE]JmvCpR45LKA[/YOUTUBE]
(Remove the space between [ and Y, I removed it to show, how it works.)
Then it appears like this
This was just an example. Post your video by the same method.
Have you tried flashing stock firmware?
From what I think this is that somehow ur screens size has been reduced in the system, bcuz if the screen would have gone bad u wudnt be able to unlock it from 2.5cm above the actual place
But this is just me guessing a reason
I suggest you flash stock firmware using flashtool, or use repair option on PC companion
There are many guides on xda to use flashtool

Hello All,
I've been here for some time just reading...first time posting.
Learned a lot here, rooted a few phones, got myself out of a few jams in the past too...
Well this time I'm in a jam and can't find any info to get out of this problem...
So the screen went black after it got cracked, and the touch screen doesn't seem to respond at all.
I have a replacement coming (had to pay 150 through T-Mobile even though I have insurance - ridiculous)...
Anyway I have to send this one back when the replacement shows up.
I got files and things on the internal storage that I need to remove, texting apps with conversations I don't need anyone else seeing...etc
I can't do anything with the phone since I can't see the screen...
Don't know what the hell to do...suggestions?
Thanks,
Duke
I should add that I'm running Cyanogenmod......
If it powers on then you should be able to connect to yhe computer and format /data using adb.

Not familiar with it - looked at it....looks a little complicated but I'll have to figure it out
Just thought of something...can't I enter recovery and just follow the appropriate steps to master reset (just doing it blindly)...
I managed to hard reset and then unroot the phone by watching videos and just following the timing of each step
Takes a couple tries but it's possible!

So did the display come back on your damaged gs3 or have you already sent it back? Since I'm almost in the same boat as you

No, the display didn't come back.
I just found a video on youtube where the person showed the phone as they did a hard reset and also an unroot.
I just followed the same steps they did (blindly obviously) and I knew it was done correctly if the phone would reboot at the right time, or when I did the unroot when the phone reboot I can hear the T-Mobile stock jingle on the boot screen.
So my brother attempted to repair the screen on my note 2 and now the screen is completely dead the phone still rings when called and can be recognized by the pc. Basically all I want to do is get the pictures off my phone.
The issue is I can connect to samsung Kies but it requires me to unlock my phone to view the pictures. Is there any way around this? I would pay to get it fixed but i upgrade. Also if theres no work around how would I wipe it to sell?
Thanks in advanced!
