Hello there.
I was burning rubber at my local go-karting track last night and stupidly left my phone in my pocket. There was a little "inconsiderate" driving and now I've got a Galaxy Nexus with no display.
I know the rest of the phone is still working so I'm wondering what data I'll be able to salvage from the phone and how.
I'm planning to get it repaired by Samsung (for around £150!!) so I'm wondering if I should unroot and revert to stock or will they not mind? Again any tips on how this would be done would be great.
Thanks for reading

Could use the ADB backup (either with the tool linked above, or manually).
Then you can unroot/flash stock with Fastboot. Screen isn't required if all of your buttons and USB port still work.

Hello everyone i need some help with my E4G touch. over the weekend i had my phone in my pocket and some way or another my keys cracked my screen. My screen is completely black i can't see anything, but the phone still turns on and i can also receive calls, text's etc... I want to retrieve all the Data that's on my phone, like my pictures, text's and some documents. when i connect it to the PC Samsung Kies tells me to reconnect the device. It stays doing this over and over and i cant get access to the information i need. My phone is also rooted. is there any way for me to retrieve my Data?
Thanks in advance for the help
I'd try these folks http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/ they do stuff like this.
Bump!!!!!!
Are you rooted? May need that? Idk I'm always rooted, lol. Sorry bout the phone. I will recommend that you use the adb pull tool. I'm not sure of the texts unless you had prior backups which you will get with pulling / not sure it will be pics in a dcim folder /mnt/sdcard/DCIM

If you are daring enough, i would suggest that you replace your screen/digitizer. i had a similar issue - i broke my screen, it wouldnt show anything but the notification light still worked and the capacitive buttons still lit up when the device turned on, so i knew everything was still working except the screen.
i bought a screen/digitizer off ebay for $65 shipped, replaced it myself. now everything is working perfectly, just as it had before. its something you must be careful when tackling, but its not impossible at all.
reference this if you do take my advice:

I have GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus and the internal digitizer screen went bad after it cracked. My phone turns on fine, but the touchscreen is rendered useless. Screen doesn't turn on, but I am able to boot into the internal sd card portion of the phone via usb on mac and pc. Instead of me paying to buy a new screen I just want to sell this on ebay as is and recover my losses for the upcoming nexus 4. The problem is I don't want my personal info on it and unfortunately I was unable to setup the usb debugging mode prior to the screen cracking so screencast app won't work for me, I tried. Any ideas on how I can wipe my phone clean? Can this be done via odin? and if so how? Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks! It worked like a charm!!!! awesome!
So, I had my S3 in the cargo pocket of my pants, knelt down and must have tweaked the device just enough to crack the glass. It's a tiny crack that goes from the lower left side, to the southeast, for about 3'4", then south, for the last 1'4". Now, however, the screen is completely dark, and doesn't respond to touch.
The phone does work; however, with a catch. I can boot it up, see the hardware keys light up, and hear the first vibration for my notification of whatever it is, but within a few minutes of a cold boot, the device heats up very quickly and it never did that before. I have the last stable SlimBean on it, overclocked to 1726 or whatever the number is, but undervolted by -50mV I believe...and it's never been this hot, except when messing around with massive overclocks like a year ago.
I am curious if there's a way to harvest my texts, contacts, pictures, etc. Not all of these are stored on my SD. I know some are on the internal storage due to my not realizing it after flashing so many ROMs, and such. I just want my stuff back. I don't have a Samsung account and I don't know if ADB is enabled or not. I also oon't know anyone else with an S3, and even if I did, I don't know that they'd agree to let me try to plug their screen into my device.
I have a Note 3 on the way, so being without a phone isn't a huge issue. Any suggestions?
Odin a non-touch recovery and make a nand to external sd. You can restore text from a nand using Nandroid Manager.
Edit: didn't see the dark screen part. But if your are using Slim you can try the adb. In some AOSP adb is on by default.

If it helps, I'm using SlimBean on 4.3.1 I believe it was. The download I need is directly from Google, err, Android, for the developer tools or whatever it's called, yes? I probably also need the Samsung phone drivers, if I recall? Sorry, I just installed Win 8.1 so I lost all the software I had prior and haven't gotten around to figuring out what I need yet.
All right, so I was able to pull files from internal storage and my SD by plugging the device in after powered on. I managed to grab the contacts, telephony, and mmssms DB and DB-journal files using ADB. Luckily USB debugging was enabled, allowing ADB to work.
Hopefully those DBs will allow me to extract the info I need to restore everything. I know I can't just drop them onto my soon-to-arrive Note 3 (ETA a few hours) and expect them to work. I wonder if the SMS Contacts backup app I used would be able to pull the data and then I can import it. We'll see!
Anyway, now I'm going to try and flash full stock MD4. I know awhile back I flashed a MD4 full stock unrooted with Odin and had the added benefit of resetting the flash counter during the process. Can this be done on a phone with no display/touch? All the threads I've seen say to use CF's TriangleAway app, but I didn't have to use the Google Play app before, if I recall.
I then plan to sell the phone to anyone who wants to buy it. It's still in great shape and the battery holds enough charge to last me about two days of little to moderate use with airplane mode enabled overnight. 32 GB SD not included. PM me if interested. Until then, I'm going to try to sell it locally first, then on eBay.
S3 still available if anyone's interested. PM for info.

I'm trying to help a friend recover mainly pictures from her phone. She dropped it down some carpeted steps and now the screen is dead. To avoid paying $200ish to replace the screen or turning in the phone to get a new one (right now), her main goal is to get the photos. The phone is unrooted and has a lock code. What can be done or steps to get inside the internal drive?

You should be able to hook it up to your computer via USB and copy the photos to the computer. I do that all the time and don't have to unlock the phone to do so.
Hello,
As you probably already read in the title I have a problem. Yesterday my loving MI6 fell on a stone and the screen broke. Fortunately the phone is still on.
The Screen will go on but I can only see pink lines and no image. Touch is not working. The fingerprint sensor seems to work randomly (I get a vibrate feedback) but I guess because of the cracks it doesn’t recognize my fingerprint.
My biggest concern now is to get the data of my phone. Of course, just connecting it to a computer doesn’t work because I would have to unlock the phone and set it to data transfer. Right now the computer recognizes the phone but the drive doesn’t show anything.
I thought about booting into TWRP and connecting it to the computer but TWRP also requires an unlock which I cannot try because of the broken touch.
Any ideas how I can get my data back?
Are there any adb commands that I can use?
I am on LOS15 (TWRP installed).
Thank you for your help!
Update:
Just wanted to let anyone know who get stuck with the same problem. I couldn’t get the data from the phone. I tried several things with data rescue tools and remote control tools for android but nothing worked.
So in the end I bought a new LCD screen on eBay and replaced it. Phone works great again and eventually I was able to access all my data.
