Question Screen not working unable to get into the phone - Samsung Galaxy S22

Hi, I need help and looked almost everywhere for answers. For the past few days, I've been trying to recover the photos and videos on my phone. The screen went completely black last week and I've restarted it thinking this would fix the problem. It didn't and now I can't even get past the PIN unlock. The phone still works when connecting with an HDMI cable, but I'm unable to get past the pin unlock.
I tried using an HDMI adapter hub and connected with a keyboard to no avail. The keyboard powered on, but anything I tried pressing on my keyboard the phone didn't respond to the keys, numbers, and all. Also even tried using a mouse.
I also tried using Samsung Dex, but I just couldn't get past the startup PIN.
What can I do to retrieve my files?

A data recovery specialist may be able to retrieve them.
Always regularly and redundantly backup critical data.Another disadvantage of not having a SD card slot as it's data if unencrypted it would by accessible

Thank you for your kind response. Would it be possible to have the screen fixed then I'd be able to have a working phone?

You're welcome.
Perhaps. That may increase the risk of data lose though. If it was me I would have written the lost data off already. I've lost a database that was 30 yo and not replaceable. Some lessons are learned the hard way.

Man, that's a terrible and awful lesson to learn. But you are right, that's the hard way. I'm going to try one last thing, I can't give up, I'm going to purchase a wireless keyboard and pray that I can type my pin in.

You can also connect a USB mouse, but then you have to find out where on the screen the numbers normally appear.

I'm thrilled that my solution worked! I'm now using Samsung DEX in combination with a universal adapter hub, a wireless mouse, and keyboard, and transferring files to an external SSD. I am grateful for the advice provided by others.
Edit: After further exploration, I've realized the solution was even when the screen was black. I can still swipe up and type my pin blindly while using Samsung Dex. (The screen isn't active when not in Dex, but in Dex, it works somehow.)
Edit2: The only way to get past my pin was to blindly type my pin like this the way to get access to my phone data was to blindly accept the access from computer. (I say blindly because I could not see the what I was pressing and it was just through memory that I was able to do it)
Edit 3: If you are suffering from a dead screen issue and are unable to access the data from your phone, there is still hope. But first, you must remember your pin and where each press goes. Although you cannot see your screen, swipe up (this would allow you to type your pin). Type your pin, and if done correctly you have unlocked your phone (although you cannot see this). You should however be able to access your phone through Samsung Dex, see your screen, and access your files. Sometimes Samsung Dex just doesn't want to work. It's okay, now, connect your phone to your computer. You should see your internal storage. If not, then your phone is asking permission. (You can't see this) Simply tap on the bottom right of your phone to OK the permission. I hope this was helpful. Thank you
Some notes; a day before my screen went completely black, the top half of my phone was not touchable (the touch screen just didn't want to work.) I was very lucky the bottom half to type my pin was still working even though I could not see (just through memory).

Kindly change the thread to SOLVED thank you

Samsung Galaxy S2 won't boot to main menu, and has seizures.

I'm having a huge problem with my T-Mobile Galaxy S2, and not it won't even completely boot up. The issue had already been around, but never this bad. Usually, when I would use my phone, it would just randomly reboot on it's own. Now, I can't even get to the main home screen or menu. When the battery is inserted, the phone will automatically try to turn on. I'll get the Samsung screen, then the "Samsung Galaxy SII Android 4G T-Mobile screen", then the phone will glitch for a second, black screen, and it'll almost have a seizure from then on. When I say that, pretty much what happens is that the screen will go black, and it'll pulse with vibrations. It'll vibrate, stop for two seconds, vibrate some more, etc. That's all it'll do from there on. It won't try to turn on when I hold the power button, and the vibrations won't stop until I take the battery out. There is no water damage, and there's just normal wear on the phone. I've had the phone since the drop, and for the most part, it's been great until now.
The phone is not rooted, and I have not installed anything crazy. Come to think about it, I didn't really even have too many apps installed on it to begin with. The phone is under warranty, so I had T-Mobile send me a replacement. My main issue now is that I have content on there that wasn't on my SD card, but on the internal hard drive that I find extremely important, and want to keep. When I connect the phone to my computer, nothing comes up because I didn't "connect" it to the computer as you normally would have to do from the phone, before the extra drives pop up on the computer. Without getting into the main menu and manually connecting the phone to the computer so that the drive will pop up, what can I do?
I've tried taking the battery, sim card and memory card out, letting it sit for a few hours, and plug it back in, but it does the same thing. The battery isn't bad, because it plugs into the replacement phone that was sent to me, and works just fine. I've also plugged into my additional batteries, and it does the same thing. I can't do the "hard reset" where you hold volume up & down, then the power button because what happens is the phone will restart itself before I can get to that point. I tried it when I was on the phone with T-Mobile, and the associate at one of the retail locations tried when I went to get a loaner. I've tried hooking up the phone to the Kies software, but it won't recognize the old phone. It will recognize the new one with no problems though.
I am in no way am I well versed with the process of flashing it or installing different things on the phone. I just used it casually for phone calls, texts, web, and an occasional game or app. I'm just stating this so that if there are any specific tips that anyone could recommend, please if possible, explain in a bit more depth, because after I posted my title, I found the related threads, and most of the steps that were recommended to others that had problems sound a bit foreign to me. I just really want to recover the photos and documents that I had on the phone before I send it back to T-Mobile.
These are the threads that I've somewhat referenced so far:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1948094
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458x
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1813866
I can't seem to find anything with the same symptoms as my phone though. If anyone could let me know, that would be great. I just really want to get the content off my old phone, it's just extremely important to me. I'll be waiting on any replies. If you need and more information about what the phone is doing, or what I should try, please mention it. I will try to update this as I get replies, since I am supposed to send the phone back pretty soon. Thank you in advance.
You have a stuck or broken power button. Stick a toothpick or something into the power button whole and take out any gunk if there is. If that doesn't help, then you have a broken power button and you have to get your phone fixed.

So from what I understand your phone does not boot up to the home screen at all and you are trying to recover all the files from the internal storage? I've been in the same situation as you, although, with my previous android (Samsung Captivate) and I know how hectic this situation is...
If you can enter recovery mode still without the phone restarting itself and if you're willing to flash a custom rom that should help you get into the home screen to recover your files, as it shouldn't remove anything from the internal storage (just as long as you don't format the internal storage/system in recovery).
The phone 'seizure' you are experiencing may also be caused by physical damage, such as the internal memory becoming defective (hopefully not the case).
You mentioned that you can't turn on the phone with the power button and the phone only turns on when you place the battery... that's the same thing that happened with my old phone and it turned out that I had to disassemble the phone and clean/replace the power button. After that the phone turned on like normally again, however, I had to flash a new rom for it to properly boot up.
As a last resort, if you can enter 'Download Mode' via button combo or usb jig you can use Odin to flash a stock rom. However, the files you originally have in the phone will be removed, which you definitely do not want. But at least your phone will possibly work again.
At the moment, I don't think there is any way to recover the files you need from the internal memory without being able to boot up the phone to get it connected to your computer. If you do manage to boot to the home screen, but can't connect your phone to your computer. You can always do a wireless transfer to a cloud based storage such as Dropbox (you can use the android app) and just transfer your files from your phone through that.
I hope I am of some help to you, if I find any other solutions I'll let you know. Good luck!

Broken Screen - Data Retrieval (or last resort, wipe) - urgent

I'm sorry, I hate when people ask questions in the wrong section, but I literally have 2 hours to sort this out.
I dropped my phone and the screen won't turn on and doesn't respond to touch.
The insurance company is picking it up first thing tomorrow (*hence the urgency) and would like to get some stuff off it. Most stuff is on my exsd, so I'm not too worried if I have to wipe it, but would prefer only to wipe it once everything is off.
I'm rooted and have a custom stock based rom and cwm installed.
Is there any way of doing this? I have the lock pattern enabled so when I plug it in nothing shows up.
If not, then how would I wipe it?
It's omega rom btw, so it has cwm touch. Would the volume buttons still work with it?
It's probably too late but you should set up your device with Samsung "Find my Mobile" (ex-Dive) as soon as you get it. That way you can remote wipe it as long as it's receiving a Wi-Fi or cellular signal. There also Mobizen which allows you to control your device from your PC. It auto-connects so you'd be able to use it without a working display but you'd have to make entries on your device the first time you set it up. You might try plugging it in to a PC and seeing if it'll let Kies connect with the display locked. You could at least manipulate your files. Other than that I don't have anything else to suggest.
Tried Galaxy Note Toolkit? Pretty sure it has a option to backup the phone over USB after booting into recovery. Can't be certain you don't need to press a button on screen, but if memory serves it's all automated.

Seems I was signed up for dive and was able to remotely wipe. Thank you!

Device can no longer see computers, need some help figuring things out.

Ok, first off I chose Sprint because I believe that Boost Mobile is on the sprint network, but my phone doesn't specifically say sprint on it or anything, so I had no clue which of these device boards to post into. This is the exact page I got it on, if that helps. [link deleted - paranoid forum rules] - I will post specs of the device in a minute.
Alright, the issue with my phone, is that after I used a car charger 2 months after I got my phone, it suddenly stopped being able to connect to ANY computer ever again. I suspected it was PDA net at first cause that was the newest change I had done to my phone. So, a few days later, I could find now way whatsoever to fix it, and had to factory reset. This fixed my phone just fine.
Two months later, I was fed up with having battery issues all the time, this phone drains battery faster than my laptop, and its battery is 3.8 years old! I got an external battery that holds 20,000 mAh/74 Wh (Practically the same as my laptop battery too. ) that is from the LimeFuel company. I know that before I used it, my phone worked with my laptop just fine. I don't plug my phone in to my laptop all that often, especially now that I have a battery to use with it. However, I download large files on my phone with 4G to put onto my laptop because my home net is crappy, so a week after, I noticed that my phone lost the ability to communicate with computers, again. I then realized, it had to be the connections. The first time it happened was when I used a car charger, the second time, an external battery. Each time, my phone suddenly inexplicably lost the ability to communicate with a computer ever again. It can only see devices as a power source, nothing more. There's no missing software or drivers, it just doesn't register as anything to my computer. Like a power toggle so it can't tell the computer "Hey, I'm a device that you can transfer data with".
One more note; The first time this happened, I had activated developer options but had them turned off. I mean that I used USB Debugging mode once and turned all of that off. The second time, I hadn't even unhid the option yet, unhid after my phone broke again to try and fix but nope.
I did research on trying to fix it, without factory reset because a factory reset is USELESS, if it's going to happen every single time I use anything but the wall to charge it, right?
There was a topic online claiming that there is a menu under "Storage" in the settings. There isn't. It was a big fat lie. Or Android devs deleted it.
There was another topic, claiming that USB settings would be under some wireless and networks area. Nope.
Now, I remember that when my device would connect to the computer, it would let me change it from MTP to PTP, but after this happened, nothing. It doesn't even pop up anymore, nor does it ask. There is no where in the phone that these options even exist at all. It's like Android devs deleted access to these options for no reason whatsoever.
Another bit in that topic mentioned ‘USB Mass Storage’, which also doesn't exist. Here's the topic with everything I tried, if I'm allowed to give links at all. If not, well not my fault. Topics used to try and diagnose and fix issues, but failed;

So. How do I get my phone to connect to computers again?
Why does it stop accepting data from computers after I use a car charger or an external battery pack?
Why would Google/Android devs choose to intentionally break your phone like this?

First off, after the factory reset and everything worked did you reinstall the pdanet?
Second, 20,000mah battery? Holy cow im jealous!
Forgive me if you have already tried these things but this is what i would do...
Did you reenable developer options and reenable adb debugging?
Did you uninstall and reinstall your phone drivers?
Is there an updated phone driver?
Have you tried a different usb cord?
Is there excess dirt or dust in usb charge port on your phone?
Does your usb charge port even work anymore or do you just charge external battery on wall?
Have you tried a different usb port on the computer?
Have you tried on another computer?
Have you tried updating computer drivers?
Have you enabled a fast charge tweak like on a kernel tweak app?
If none of these questions fix it then a workaround is downloading app called airdroid. You can wirelessly transfer files from phone to computer and back again without usb cord.
Let me know what worked please! Good luck!

1. No, I never touched PDA net again.
2. Too bad forum rules say I can't be friendly and give you the link to it.
3. Read the topic you quoted. I did, only after my phone broke again. Except it's not adb debugging, it's USB debugging. Doesn't work, because the phone can't communicate with a computer anymore.
4. 5. 11. Yes I reinstalled drivers and no there were no updates.
6. 7. Nothing's wrong with the cable. I did try with others.
8. What does that even mean? Yes my phone's port works. Nothing's wrong with any hardware.
9. 10. I've tried different ports and different computers.
12. Can't, phone isn't rooted.
13. I'm not using this. My phone is not there for Google/Android to tell me I'm not allowed to use my USB port ever again. I'm also not going to wait 4 hours for a 4 GB file to transfer via my router to my computer nor am I installing some app software to my computer just to have wireless transfer. This is not a work around. This is an "Oh well, it's broken, guess you can't ever use USB ports again for data access!"
note; I tried all of these (except 12/13) before I ever came here looking for help.
2. I will google it
3. I didnt realize toggle to turn on usb debugging didnt work sorry. I just know it needs to be on for the computer to see the phone. This seems to be an area of problem possibly.
8. Lol! What i meant was did the area where u insert charger function properly. Only reason i asked is because some of those batteries charge on wall unit made specifically to charge the battery only not with charge.
12. Doesnt require root for basic settings like changing governor usually. Only to overclock/undervolt, etc.
13. Great answer! But i meant as a temporary fix until someone more experienced with this issue helps you.
I also figured listing all those things would help other people see what you had and hadnt tried before asking you next time. Wish i couldve helped more. Good luck

2. amazon dot com /External-20000mAh-Limefuel-LP200X-Flashlight/dp/B00OHZVN5U/ - It let me charge my phone 7-8 times fully before it was empty. Automatically stops when your phone is full.
3. USB debugging doesn't need to be on in order for a phone to communicate with a computer. This is only if you want to debug apps or use other developer tools. File transfer works just fine without it.
8. I still don't understand what you mean. My phone is not broken in any way. Nor is my battery. My external battery charges off any USB input, my phone charges off any USB input. My phone just can't communicate data wise between devices anymore via USB.
12. Fast charge isn't going to fix my phone. Unless it disables data communication, then I need to turn it off. All "kernal tweak apps" appear to require root. The top 5 google searches shown this.
3. Wasnt sure. Ive always had it on
8. Some aftermarket batteries dont charge while in phone hooked up to charger. They come out of phone and into specialized charger for battery only not phone with it, so that it can charge the larger battery in a matter ofan hour or so is what i have been trying to say. But its obvious thats not the case for you now since i asked and clarified. If this was the case one might not know that the small usb port on their phone needed cleaning to make a good connection because they literally dont use it to charge their phone. They charge their phone with external battery charger. You see?
12. On my custom rom and on my trickstermod app it does say fast charge disables data communication and that you have to turn it off for computer to recognize phone again. This fast charge mode only works when connected to computer not wall charger it says
Wish i could be more help but im out of ideas. Good luck
Update to the current situation.
My phone is somehow, repaired. But I have no clue why. I did several things today, just screwing around while I backed up my stuff to the SD card. One of them could have fixed it, or my phone is magic and self repairs after a while. Lets list everything I can remember that I did.
1. I typed in *#9900# in my dialing app. Toggled an option called "Low battery dump" to "on".
2. I deleted a whole bunch of files, including hidden files on the internal storage. Probably screwed up my apps but, whatever, it works now.
3. I pulled the SD card out.
Shortly after all these things, I plugged it in for power, and it finally, got my computer to see it as an MTP device again. No clue which of these succeeded. I'm going to wait a small bit before I test the things that tend to break it.
The magic option, is because I tried to root, it broke, stuck in download mode with some error about firmware. For 4 hours it was stuck like this, I tried everything I could think of, which wasn't much, tried installing the ROM back too, after wasting 2 gigs of bandwidth downloading it only to get an error before it even started the install. Phone was still rebooting in download mode error screen. Left it sit there off for like a minute and it just turns it's self back on, flickers a few times and the logo pops up and the device pops on like nothing had ever happened to it. I'm so confused. :/ At least everything's back to normal. Now add a good confusion post icon below so I can click it and post. :|

Except, I don't have a fast charge option anywhere. I can't toggle fast charge. My phone is unrooted and locked and such. If plugging in a device like a battery or a car charger, toggles this option and the OS developers deleted access to toggle this option, it is an OS bug and a critical issue in the device that needs to be fixed. I don't know what fixed it, but I'm assuming it was the low battery dump, and that doesn't appear to have anything to do with fast charge and it was a hidden secret option in the system.

The way u said it i misunderstood i thought u did have it on. Its not an option on all roms though. Mine has it and i tried it and couldnt see files thru usb until i toggled it off so it was just an idea. I dont know the effects of the low battery dump off top of my head but i will remember that if i hear someone else with same problem. Glad its fixed now

Carperformance.se Uconnect Android system help.

I am hoping I can find some help in here with a couple problems I am running into on this system that would make it so much better to me.
The system is basically an Android box utilizing the touch screen and monitor of my Uconnect 8.4 head unit. The naming in the settings is rk3188 and is running on KitKat 4.4.4, so it is some variant of the Android TV boxes. If there are other specs or info that are needed to help in possibly fixing my issues please let me know.
Issue 1: although not major, there is no option to have OK Google from any screen. Having this option for a car system is obviously something helpful. In the settings of the Google App trying to access the menu for OK Google detection doesn't work, so I can't even get to the screen where that option lives. I have the most up to date version of Google App and Google Play Services. I have Google searched on ways to fix this but nothing has brought that ability up. I know Android version 4.4.4 was capable of this. There was another app that utilized Googles voice engine and allowed this function but Google made him stop using their servers and killed that as an option.
Issue 2: this is the biggest bother to me and I could not find anything even related to what's happening in my searches. The system comes loaded with some apps and using Launcher3 for its front end, it has big buttons but offers almost no ability to customize it. The bottom row has apps that you cannot switch out to anything else, and 3 of them I will never be using. The system works but is not as nice as it could look or function. The obvious answer is to use a different launcher which is where the problem arises. I have tried to use Nova and Apex so far with the same very frustrating outcome. After the install everything is great, I can set the screen up to look amazing and add icons and functionality that really make it a great experience. So everything is working lovely then I shut my truck off and go do whatever. The next time I come back I start the truck up everything loads fine, the new launcher and everything I did to it is working just as expected until about 5 minutes in the screen goes black for a second and then the system goes through a factory reset. Really? Are you kidding me? The first couple times I thought maybe I hit something because I hadn't fully put my truck back together but after playing with it more and having the system factory reset 5 other times I have concluded it is related to changing the launcher. I tried Nova first, then I tried Apex with the same outcome and same sequence of events. Obviously it's annoying everytime testing this because updating and reentering my info everytime just to try the launcher again is time consuming. The last test the only thing I did was a different launcher so that has to be it, but why and how can I fix it?
If anyone has any clue how using a different launcher would cause a factory reset to happen please help me out. Or if there is anything I can do to this system to prevent that. My last resort thought would be to root it but I read someone else who has this system that rooting it caused screen layout issues and made things go 90 degrees off? The loaded apps in the system have touch screen calibration and screen resizing which might be necessary for this to function with the monitor.
Thanks for any help.
I spoke with someone else that has the system and they are not having any issues with running a different launcher so something happen to my particular device. I contacted the company and they will be getting me the firmware to refresh it and hopefully that fixes the resetting issue.
i am looking to get this also. I am very curious how you like the device - it looks great though a bit out of date. Waze & email should work well. How much storage does it have? Can you add a sd card or something?

I'm getting a new unit sent out, it seems there are 2 versions and for whatever reason mine wouldn't let me customize the launcher.
But even though it's outdated, every app I tried worked just fine, they still install the latest versions. The system has 8gb of on board storage and a microSD card slot that is mainly for loading maps for offline navigation. I think you can still access it for other uses, but they have a better option for that. There is a USB input for flash drives or external drives. I tried my 2TB external drive on it and it accessed my movies fine from it.
How did you get it installed? Who?
got any pics?
Actually I would be interested in this too, I have an Alfa Romeo and the Uconnect 6.5 (european version) which isn't that great, it would be nice to attach a sort of box with ARM hardware running on Android and using the display and touch of the existing Uconnect. The question is, how this can be done?

I would check out this thread. It has two videos that walk you through the entire process - great info!
I also bought this latest Android system V4 2 weeks ago. Auto launcher pro app is very good working. At the moment there is a issue with the system time, which is not correctly synchronized with gps time. Carperformance Team is working on a fix for that. How can I get root Access for this Android 7 System?

glad to hear i'm not going crazy with the clock but there is an issue.
I just bought and installed a V4 a couple weeks back too.
i must have left a loose connection cause i keep having to recall the touchscreen for android. I half-arsed the install cause we were leaving for a 2k mile roadtrip the next day- need to take it apart and do it right. Luckily you can connect a usb mouse in to trigger the calibration app.
id also love root- at the moment im trying to figure out if the one usb port is safe to connect an A to A usb cable into to get ADB. apparently on some versions of nvida sheild, you can. If they provide a firmware update for the clock fix then maybe that gets us an image to futz with for root.
a keyboard also works in teh usb port and i've tried a handful of key combos during boot to get to recovery but haven't stumbled on it yet.
I'll post back if i find anything

Hi @michaelk
Good to hear that I am not alone here with this special system V4. Except for the issue with the system time and no root access, I am fully satisfied so far. I hope to fix it soon. If we had root access then we could solve this issue with the system time with some time apps ourselves.
Thank you for your experiences.

wiring harness investigation
so played around some today.
I've got an issue where I need to recalibrate the screen almost every time I boot. it seems the box (or card added to the radio?) forgets things and only works the bottom right corner and also seems to rotate 90 degrees at boot. The end result is unusable screen. I think carperformance is just a reseller because of their response. They're friendly and reply quickly but are really unable to help. The first answer was just randomly fiddle with screen and try to find calibrate setting and reboot- that proved impossible and on my own I discovered a 6 dollar USB mouse from the Walmart could be used to navigate to the calibrate app. When I inquired again when it got more frequent they basically said it's not normal and offered no help except to adjust a personalization setting to run calibrate on boot- that only works once that I can figure (might be related to weird time bug)- so I settled on having tasker run calibrate on each boot. I wonder if there is a battery in the box that needs changing but the warranty sticker keeps me out for not- might add an external battery to keep it alive for a longer time to minimize the rebooting
Anyway took everything apart today to double-check and can't find any connection issues. I traced the harness a bit to try and understand a little and basically, the skinny cables run the daughterboard to snag the screen output and the touchscreen input. But i wanted to figure out what is tapped from the radio harness to the large white plug on the box and see if anything going on their .
DISCLAIMER- I NEED TO CONFIRM (it was hot - laughing) but basically seems what is tapped in radio harness is:
1) power and ground also
2) L&R aux audio signal- interesting here is they tapped a single ground (physically next to the right signal) for common. Earlier i had the RAX hack and their harness used a ground for each L&R and their aux input worked all the time without the little plugin shunt thing to trick aux input. When i dug some more and found a pin diagram from mopar I found that the 'left' ground is actually labeled "aux audio device detect signal" I need to play some more to see what happens but my guess is if we put a switch on that to short it to ground then the aux would just work to avoid the hokey plug.
3) Here's the fun- holding the screen to flip inputs could be the daughterboard running things. BUT since it also reacts to the left steering wheel button pack and switches inputs itself when you need the reverse cam- i figured it reads the can bus. and sure enough, it looks like it taps CAN IHS (+) and CAN IHS (-). Very cool that it would get into the whole bus and read anything- BUT since there are other FCA vehicles that don't auto-switch inputs on revers and they have alternate connections it seems the real dev is not involved to update things to sniff for other reverse signals. Reading around here- seems that there is probably a custom serial port someplace in the box that reads this and there's probably no documentation for us to do anything ourselves. But one can hope...

So the spec for the chipset for the V4 says it can handle an OTG port and a couple (maybe 3?) other USB ports. Obviously, the box only has the one USB A port visible on the pigtail. I wish we could get in the box and look for a header for the OTG port to help rooting but.... the darn warranty sticker.
on the FCA/Dodge side of things- I have a Durango with a USB port and SD card reader in the dash (USB Media "Hub" Apparently, FCA uses USB Mini B connectors to interconnect all the ports and the radio. They use latching connectors that are keyed but if you undo them there's a standard USB mini B in there. They do some odd male/female things so you have to pay attention to where you undo cables, but bottom line you can undo the connector on the back of the dash's USB port and stuff a USB mini B female on it and connect it to whatever host device you want.
I first tried an old laptop in case there's anything weird going on. My Dash "Hub" actually has 2 mini-B connectors and a multipin auto harness. Without the harness when you connect it to windows it sees a USB Hub, but the USB port was still dead. So I assumed it needs power from the harness on the back of the dash hub and connected that. UP popped up a USB mass storage device which I believe is the SD card reader- didn't get around to confirming and then the USB port also comes to life. Knowing that it was safe at that point I connected it to the USB A Host port on the box and presto chango now I have the in-dash port connected to the android tv box without any exposed wiring.
Connected the "android auto dongle" through the cars USB port and that works perfectly. I ordered a used 2 USB dash hub from eBay (later model years have 2 and will see what that does. The pictures of that also show the 2 mini B ports- I'll play some more when I get that. I'm not sure what is in those dongles but from the other folks hacking android auto into older models (by using newer radios) apparently, one port works for android auto and the other doesn't. The scuttle is its a body module programming thing but I wonder if maybe there's something physical in there and so the dongle won't be necessary any longer with the new hub? My other thought is if the two USB min B jacks allow you to connect to 2 different hosts- I would try one on the original Uconnect (in case I ever need to update the software) and the other for the android TV box.
So apparently the android tv box handles hubs just fine. As I mentioned earlier it handles a mouse or USB keyboard fine. Also, I played around and connected my hotspot by USB instead of wifi so the device sees it as a modem and that works just fine- so I assume a USB modem works out of the box too. (again odd if that works that carperformance sells a hotspot and not USB modem- like they don't know what the box can do)
I disassembled my display 2 times until it worked. After the first start, I had a black screen. I thought that was it... After 3 times it finally worked. I also had a cable on the plug which has easily resolved. I think you will also have a loose contact somewhere. One time I also had the display calibration gone. Then I connected my old usb keyboard and could then start the display calibration. I reset the system before. So far, the system works without problems. I also have a passive 4-way usb hub to connect.
I have already connected cables for the frontcam but have not yet moved into the engine compartment.
In the video tutorial of Carperformance, you can see when you switch to drive, the display then changes to the frontcam or signal from the cam, but the display does not change to the Frontcam signal with me.
Do you have with you the signal on the display of the camera when switching to drive?
Adw2 = bad mix
Went back and forth many times in email and turns out my calibration issue was probably all ADW2 launcher, guess it conflicts with whatever app they use to communicate with the display.
in the process of troubleshooting I got the update zip for the current version but I don't think those have recovery partition in there and so can't help root? I need to read some more.
I've ripped everything apart like 12 times with the screen, so that my front cam is not connected right now. For the brief time I had it, it was connected to one of the smaller video in pin connectors and don't think it worked in drive by itself, but can't really say for certain. I think certain models can't get the canbus command to see reverse and if I understand they connect in to the video in on the main connector and then use a point on the car that is energized to trigger the switch on that connection. If your adventurous they seem to have to flip a dip also. I think it's the Cherokees or maybe grand Cherokee so maybe Google their thread's? This site gives connector pin outs
http://connectors.dcctools.com/home.htm
There might be a lead for the drive on your shifter if lucky. I think I read the reverse shoulder comes from a body control box in the passenger wheel well?
Also they're super friendly and never wrong when you email but they can be brief. So you could ask if there's a dipswitch to flip to enable auto switching one of the inputs. Hec maybe we should just ask for a table of where the dips do...
(Sorry for any typos... Will try to edit later)
Supposedly it is enough to connect the extra input cable for DVD or CMMB. That answered me Carperformance. Before, I had no external input cable connected. That's why no signal came. The OEM rearcam works flawlessly.
Also, I forgot, they have a workaround for the clock bug

It's a cheaper fix but so no solution. Carperformance should offer a software update with root access. Then we would be satisfied. We should expect it for the money.
My frontcam is working now good.
You already tried Android auto? Which USB dongle do you use? Do you need a special app for this?
My China usb dongle does not want to connect properly with my oneplus 6T.
Edit:
Android auto is working with Pumpkin USB dongle and autoplaybox app. The noname China scrap goes back to shop.
The time fix is working until now also. Thanks for this info. The carperformance, they wrote or informed the affected people who ordered it. I did not get any info.

besides powering your camera and connecting the yellow RCA video signal did you have to do anything else?
something with the red signal wire maybe?
I cant consistently get a signal on my front cam and not sure if the camera is bad or my setup

few other notes for others-
FCA "aux audio device detect signal" harness line is actually normally closed (I think shorted to ground)- if you break the connection the oew radio flips right to aux in. make the connection again and it flips back to previous input.
the in dash usb port is infact a powered hub. I originally had a usb + SD card combo and replaced it with 2 usb port and works fine. FCA uses mini b connections to it- just use a usb a to mini b cable to connect it to the android auto box and your indash usb port(s) will work on android auto (And provide more watts to charge your stuff). oddly either dahs hub has a second usb mini b connector that i played around with a little but never could figure out what it does
more can bus fun! - i updated the dongle firmware on the android auto dongle sold direct from carperforance and now it has a beta feature to map buttons. somehow it seems to be sniffing the canbus through the android tv box. it has arrow keys, numbers, enter, etc and you use the app to select the input to assign then you press the same button on the car twice- it sniffs the signal and assignes it. I My durango has the button packs on the steering wheel and i was able to assign up, down, left, right and get it to have the android auto respond. Need to play more but i think it actually goes android wide. For example i think the down button on my steering wheel was sending page down to the chrome browser i had open on the box. Pretty cool stuff if they expand that.

touch screen is non-responsive and computer does not recognize device

The touchscreen on my 2013N7 fizzled out earlier. Responsiveness has been on and off for the day - for a few hours it would improve after I press on a certain spot on the back of the device, but after that it has gone entirely. I've rebooted several times and there is no response.
I'm trying to use android control (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786395) to just access it and get my data off of it, but when I plug it into a PC, the PC doesn't recognize that there is a device plugged in at all, even though it'll still charge the N7. It's completely missing from the device management list; adb shell can't find devices plugged in. I've looked around for possible fixes, but all of the ones mentioned require being able to access the tablet.
I'm at a bit of a loss here - is there a way to get the N7 to show up on the device list, or an alternate way to pull data off of it?

The spot corresponds to the plug (att) and now it is time to unlock, reseat the cable and relock it as all of the problems relate to poor contact of the cable.
Same issue here,I am inserting a usb otg and connecting mouse there and then rebooting. This is really a bad issue
