*apologies for any obvious information I may have missed*
I have a Moto Z Play that has a locked bootloader. I've searched through a lot of these forums, went to other sites, and I've still not found the information I probably should have by now. I want to put the Resurrection Remix Rom on my phone, but I'm confused on a few different points. The phone was given to me and it looks like it was Verizon before I got it, and I use Straight talk as a carrier. I've seen the unlock process on Motorola's page, and it says my bootloader is not eligible for unlock. With the capabilities of a lot of these developers, I find it hard to believe this means the end of the road. My question is whether I can wipe the phone and somehow unlock the bootloader? Is there anyway I can speak to verizon to give me something to get an unlock code from Motorola? Can I put Resurrection on my phone without the bootloader being unlocked? Again, i've been reading and trying to figure this out on my own without having to make a thread, so sorry if this wastes anybody's time, but I could really use some help.
Thank you very much in advance.
If your phone is contracted with Verizon .... They they will not allow you to unlock the bootloader
To install custom ROM , you must have custom recovery ( may be twrp)
To be able to install custom recovery, you must unlock your boot loader
So both is not possible right now if your phone is from Verizon
So you can not install custom ROMs
Keep eyes on the MZP thread for solutions
Hope this helps

Recently got an R800at from ebay that was unlocked (first ever smartphone, woo). I was able to use my dad's sim card no problem, and dialing the number for the settings window showed no column stating whether the bootloader was allowed to be unlocked or not - according to some threads I've read, users who had unlocked Plays also had the same experience, leading me to believe my bootloader was indeed unlocked.
After following the Gin2Jellybean guide, I managed to brick my phone today (stuck on sony ericsson text), but restored via downloading a stock rom off the internet and installing via flashboot (the SUS and pc companion were having issues - they said no software was available or I had the most up to date software).
Now it seems I goofed up a second time; I was following the Gin2Jellybean guide again when I realized I was following the version for locked bootloaders! I was already on step 4 to install CWM when I realized this, but I decided to just try to install doomlord kernel v14 as per normal and hope that the doomlord root toolbox from the locked bootloder tutorial that I had used wouldn't conflict with anything.
Upon reading the directions for doomlord kernal v14, I decided to double check that my bootloader was still the same as yesterday (before I had bricked my phone). As it turns out, I now have a column for bootloader, and it says unlocking is not allowed. So what's the deal, was my phone's bootloader actually unlocked in the first place, and if so, why is it not unlocked now? According to this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720201), bootloader unlocking is permanent.
Here's the link to the guide I'm following: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631144
Gonna go take the dog for a walk now and listen to some calm relaxing music... Hopefully I didn't screw myself over here.
So when you typed in that code, you got told that your bootloader can't be unlocked? If this is the case, you would have to pay to have it unlocked by someone such as Alejandrissimo. It may be that your bootloader was never able to be unlocked as i can't think of why that would change

SIM unlock and bootloader unlock are two very different things, as you've probably found out by now; the r800at models can't be bootloader-unlocked with the free Sony method; you're going to have to pay someone, and it'll cost you at least $20. If you got one of the phones from the guy selling them for $105 on eBay, I'm pretty sure those are SIM-unlocked only.
If you don't want to pay extra, there's nothing wrong with keeping it locked; there're a few ROMs you won't be able to use, and you can't change your kernel, but for the most part you should have a good experience.

Everything you said seems to be spot on. The only thing that doesn't add up is why there wasn't anything saying one way or the other whether my bootloader was unlocked yesterday, but now today there is.
And ya, I probably won't end up paying the $20; basically I just wanted to remove bloatware and have a nice looking interface. Besides the question about why there was nothing on my bootloader yesterday, can you say offhand whether my sim should still be unlocked? I don't have one nearby to test.
Go to the dialer and enter *#*#7378423#*#* and go to Service Info -> SIM lock. The bottom line should say SIM 0 if it's unlocked. As for why it wasn't showing the bootloader status, I don't know. I was having the same problem yesterday, on multiple ROMs, so perhaps it was added in some specific update.
Hi,
i wan't to know if you may know why there are only few dev or kernel/roms for the LG G3 even if from what i've noticed the G3 is very popular?
P.S. I've seesn right now that the bootloader is locked, i don't know what does it mean exacltly but it seems to stop dev's, but aren't out there unoffical bootloader unlocking methods?
Unfortunately, LG didn't provided any official method to unlock bootloader. Developers are spending dozens of hours every day to find a bug and unlock bootloader using it. If you have locked bootloader then you cant flash any custom ROM like CM11 etc.

I hate LG for making such a perfect device that you even not hack, they're cruel, and maybe masochists because the avalibility of custom roms and customization of a device is one of the android's best features, so if the device would be unlocked it will increase their sales.
Hey guys. I'm very new and have spent the last few days researching about how the whole rooting, unlocking sim, unlocking bootloader, flashing radios and installing customer ROM's work.
From what I understand the process all start with having an unlocked bootloader so that you can install a recovery like TWRP. From there, you can flash ROM's, radios and kernels (if you want to) via zip files, from an micro sd card.
**please let me know if I understand this process correctly**
The problem is, I can't find a single place online (searched on this site and on google for over an hour straight last night) that actually tells you specifically for my model I317M with 4.4.2 (if that matters, I'm not sure) HOW to unlock the bootloader. I've seen a lot of people asking and no answers.
If someone could please tell me exactly HOW to unlock the bootloader for my phone that'd be amazing.
Is flashing the bootloader done via odin? (there is an option in odin for it) If not, how do you flash a bootloader?
So I'm unboxing my xl in Germany. I know the bootloader can be unlocked. I want to flash the oem os from the Google.developer site. Don't want to have to wait for t-mobile to approve updates from Google first. Here are my question 's
Idiot guide to ulocking the bootloader. I know I need to do something with adb. Dow loaded fastboot and adb to my PC
Which Rom should I flash. There are 3 different marlin Roms available. All with a different letter at the end.
Sorry for the noob questions.
Thanks
As this is a developer forum I guess we can expect you to use at least the search engine for bootloader unlocking and flashing the firmware, ain't we?
For now everything looks like Deutsche Telekom didn't change anything at the running firmware and you're good to go by doing nothing at all but unlocking the bootloader.
Yes I searched and think I figured out the bootloader part. I was just wanting to make sure I wasn't overthinking it.
With that being said, I've also researched that they haven't changed anything firmware wise. Yet the community still says I wouldn't get the updates released from Google until tmobile released them....
So to complete the noob mayhem
If I'm not flashing a new firmware why am I unlocking the bootloader .....
I'm lost. Lol
I also got my device from the Deutsche Telekom and I'll just wait until the first Majorupdate (probably Android O) from Google. If the Telekom wants to do their "special quality assurance whatever thing" and need x months to released the update, I can still flash a factory image.

Some people believe if you unlock the bootloader, then your phone ever fails to boot, say after a bad flash, then you are not locked out from being able to reflash your phone to recover it. If your phone ever fails to boot, and the bootloader is still locked, you will not be able to unlock it to flash it.
I choose to leave my bootloader locked until I know I'm going to reflash a factory image (I typically do for a major release). I can still flash OTA updates through adb. Plus I'm reading that Android Pay is disabled when the bootloader is unlocked (that's a future for me here in Canada).
Read around and make your own decision.
Ahhhhh makes sense now. I'm expecting the tap to wake ota update to be out pretty son. So......... no idea
But thanks for clatyring things a bit more. So maybe I just won't mess with it for right now.
Still does anyone know what the difference between the three different marlin versions are ?
Afaik there are two hardwareversions: One is the US version which supports CDMA Bands and the other is the international version without CDMA.
Is this phone impossible to root or is there just a lack of interest in figuring out a way to unlock the bootloader? I love this phone but really miss the freedom I had on previous devices to install certain apps and run different roms. I've never had a device that has been out this long without a root available.
I guess what I'm asking is if I should consider going to a different device if there isn't a way to unlock the bootloader in sight or stick it out because it'll happen in the near future.

So far, no way to root it yet, I am stuck on the Sprint G7 myself and currently fighting with Sprint to allow me to swap to another device. I know it wont work but at least I am voicing my dissatisfaction of this device with the lack of timely updates (still on November security). If I had known now when I went to Sprint back then, I would have never chosen the LG G7. The phone itself is decent, hardware is good but lack of root, lack of bootloader unlock, and lack of timely updates make the device unusable in my opinion.
I personally am hoping I or someone else can find an exploit for ROOT and eventually bootloader but so far, not much traction has been made in that department.
I have a g710pm, running Android 8.0.0
I see in developer options there is a selection that says, "Enable OEM Unlock" wouldn't that unlock the bootloader?

Nope it will not limited fast boot won't let you run the command its basically useless
You can take a look at my post, there are all the models in my country to unlock BL and ROOT, but only in the hands of a few people, they do not intend to share this, and through this to get benefits, they provide remote unlocking and ROOT services , but need to pay, which is expensive for me, I don't know English, sorry, the reply is translated by Google...
Hey everyone! As I had said earlier, the rumors are true, most G7 variants can be bootloader unlocked. I searched many Chinese websites that had already shown rooted G7 phones but showed no clear methods besides "remote unlock services". Now the method is known! The engineering bootloader from a very unique AT&T V35 V35AWM model (abl_a and abl_b) is flashed via an Octoplus box on the G7 when in QDLoader 9008 mode. This guy from Ukraine motogvasyag posted his methods on 4pda.ru and are now on XDA here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/how-to/to-unlock-bootloader-root-models-t3928505
Please check out the thread, and do donate if you can. He is doing these Octoplus flashes for free.
**This method won't work on T-Mobile model (G710TM and others). I'll still be on the lookout for any T-Mobile methods.**
