Hello
I have a HTC Buzz (Wildfire) which I don't use since 2012.. however I gave it to my father and now he's experiencing some issues with Cyanogenrom that was installed since 2010..
I don't remember what procedure I used to root the device.
My question is can I just install "RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed.exe" from windows while connected to the device.
And be done with root and custom firmware, he just wants a stable phone.
EDIT: I just noticed my signature so there's that
I can help
Sorry for the late reply, i have only just made my account.
I think i can help. I have done alot of rooting on wildfire buzz phones.
First, please answer these questions:
What windows are you using?
What HBOOT is the device on (in bootloader)
Is the bootloader unlocked?
Can you access recovery?
Do you have a copy of a previous backup? (will make it easier)

Hi guys!
I have an unrooted Desire since July and was stupid enough to apply the 2.2 OTA without knowing that it wouldn't let me root my device anymore.I almost gave up and thought that I would have an unrooted device forever, but I saw on the Development section a thread for downgrading the HBOOT for those who applied the 2.2 OTA,thus making rooting and reflashing possible. However,I don't know if it is a simple process. Is it painless and most of all,is it safe? What is the chance of serious brickage?
What concerns me most is whether I'll have to reinstall all my apps manually one by one.If I have to completely wipe my device to downgrade I will have to backup my apps(using myBackup in my case) without the ability to restore their market links due to the fact that this feature requires root access.
And finally,is there any alternative? Can unrEVOked root my device as it is?Or is there any way I can keep my rom exactly as it is while rooting?
Thanks and sorry for the many questions!
You cannot root stock froyo at the moment in any way.
The downgrade is quite easy if you have an AMOLED screen. If your phone is branded you'll need to create a goldcard. The downgrade will wipe your phone completely.
If you have an SLCD screen the downgrade is still possible but much harder.
Just follow the pinned tutorials, there is one regarding exactly your situation.
I managed to get thru this just last night, the only problem i got was to unrevoke cause i have w7 64bit, it kept telling me "done", but i didnt achieve recovery mode. finally i did it using ubuntu via wubi, but i had to install 32bit gtk libs additionally because of my 64bit machine...
so its possible, its done and it is working.
Very straightforward, accepting that you need to wipe your phone. (it needed a clear out anyway )
My advice if using unrevoked, forget doing it in Windows - just live boot a Linux distro and run it from there. Took < 5 mins to hibernate Win7, boot Fedora (in my case) from USB, download the app, run it (as root) and let it do its thing. Once done, boot back into Windows.
Never looked back
Ok...Once I sort out what to do with my apps I'll do it!
And yes,I have an AMOLED Desire!
And daern,I'm using Ubuntu for my everyday usage!WinMo is not the only version of windows that I hate!
hey guys..
I just have a quick question regarding rooting and debranding..
I debranded my German T-Mobile branded HTC Desire back when 2.2 was just out for the Desire, so I could get the update couple of months earlier.
and just last night I rooted my device, without any problems..
now, regarding my question:
my room mate got a new Desire with a T-Mobile brand and froyo..
he wants his phone to get to my state, so can I just root it and install a stock ROM on his phone and the brand will be gone too?
or do I need to unbrand it first..
thanks for any help!
peace
(PS: to avoid you having to ask anything,
after the root, his desire will probably have s-on if I do it the way I rooted my device. can he install ROMs with s-on?)
thanks you guys
UPDATE:
I just successfully rooted his device..
so, will the brand be gone if I install a custom or stock ROM?
or do I still need to debrand? his s ist still on too..
You can flash a stock WWE ROM without rooting.
Just get the ROM, make a goldcard and flash it.
You can, also root before or after flashing the WWE ROM if you want to.
Root and S-OFF are different and are done separately, and of course, you can flash custom roms when s-off.
I Edit also:If you install a custom rom or a stock WWE ROM the branding will be gone for as long as he stays on these roms.
I am not sure what you mean by debranding as it is rather the state that you are not an a branded ROM with a branded device, i.e., it's not something permanent that makes your device unbranded.
thanks for the quick answer..
s-off was a typo tho.
I meant s-on..
can't I just install it through Rom-Manager?
and will the brand be gone after that?
Okay, for the brand part see the edit above.
You can install ROMs with rom manager.
You can install ROMs with S-ON.
thank you so much dude..
I have to admit I'm still learning all this android stuff..
just don't wanna brick my friends device, nahmean?
thanks again..
peace
Hi
Let me open this thread by saying that I have just bricked a DHD yesterday. So I guess I was a bit unprepared. It was nice on part of the repair centre to replace it under warranty. (I dont think they knew, because the bloody thing won't even boot, no matter what you did.)
So, to tell you what I did yesterday, I followed this tutorial to root the Desire HD: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Desire_HD:_Rooting
I was already on 1.32.405.6, so I didn't need to downgrade.
I then gained Temp root access and then perma root access, as per tutorial
I DID NOT Flash the Engineering HBOOT (since it said its optional). Should I have dont this if I was installing a custom ROM?
Then, I followed this tutorial for Flashing Cyanongen. http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Ace:_Recovery,_Radio_and_CyanogenMod
Again, I did not Flash the radio. Is this absolutely necessary to flash a custom ROM ?
I successfully installed CM7 and booted. Then I decided to format the microSD card. It returned with a notification as, "Blank SD card" Clicking on the notificaiton would ask me to Format the card.Nothing happens.
I posted in another forum and someone asked if I made partitions ? This got me searching again and I then proceeded to make partitions with Clockwork Recover Manager
Another thing I want answered is if I should have created partitions on the microSD card or not ? At what stage should I create the partitions ?
What is the difference between ROM Manager and Clockwork Mod
Should I install a new kernel during Flashing ROM ?
I did a search via Google, There are hundreds of thousands of posts regarding rooting, but a lot of them use Visionary+ and then flash a ROM. I read earlier that this is not desirable. I can use adb on PC, no problem.
Any comprehensive definitive tutorial for rooting DHD and installing custom ROM

Those should get you started.
Do not partition SD card, it is what caused your brick. Flashing ENG hboot is your own choice, you can choose to do it later with my one click tool (link in signature). It is not necessary to flash a custom ROM and/or radio. A ROM always comes with proper kernel, so you do not need to flash it separately. ROM Manager is just an interface for ClockworkMod, nothing more.

Ouuchhhhh .. came a day too late ....
I was one of the ones bricked
You cannot remove it. Just post something useful to general or discuss here. Koush is working on that recovery problem, but I would advice to stay away from the partitioning feature at all times.

more questions after reading Guide
WOW ,,,, thanks guys ...
Just finished reading the [GUIDE]How to flash a ROM onto your DESIRE HD [COMPLETE]. Wheew....
Now I have more questions . Thanks to anyone who answers.
Here we go
1.) I have a Vodafone branded DHD, with a boot animation splash screen and useless apps. Will I need a goldcard ?
2.) Is it OK to use Visionary+ to perma root for flashing ROM's ? I had read on some forums where they didn't approve of this method. Rather they said, use the adb command prompt. The Cyanongen guide even says that if you have Visionary+ installed, uninstall it before rooting .... /confused/
3.) To put it crudely, Radio S-ON is like a security check to see if the approved apps/software are being installed. Is that correct ?
Then what is ENG S-ON ?
4.) When you do a Permanent root (by Visionary+ or adb command prompt), doesn;t it automatically set Radio S-OFF. If it does, then why do we need to do radio S-OFF as in using the tool ?
5.) I see you are not using ROM Manager for wiping cache etc. Instead you are using Full-Wipe 1.3. Is it better than using Clockwork Recovery for doing a wipe of cache ?
6.) The Radio S-OFF and simunlock tool. Can it lock my handset, since its already officially unlocked ?
7.) Why would I flash the Radio... (last step before Flashing ROM). Is it only for getting a /possible/ battery performance or network strength ? If it is not actually required for the actual Flashing of ROM, I might leave it out. Network is pretty ****ty here anyway
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
1. Yes
2. Sure it is, the guide in Cyanogen is a bit.. Weird.
3. No. S-OFF in general is a setting that allows you to write to the internal memory (read+write rights). It also disables some version checks and so on. ENG S-OFF is a special case which enables fastboot commands. Those allow you to flash radios, splash screens and such easily via USB connection.
4. S-OFF is WAY more serious mod (like god mode) than permanent root. Visionary only gives you root, which basically gives you rights to do more stuff in Android.
5. Nah, I do not personally use that wipe.zip. It is useless in my opinion The feature in cwm does pretty much the same.
6. It does not lock your device.
7. It is not entirely necessary. But if you have crappy network, it is a very good reason to flash a radio, which will improve your signal quality. My advice, flash it.
Some more questions posted in the DHD rooting/flashing thread. If anyone feels to answer them ,,,,,, thanks

Newb Alert!
Hi I'm currently running stock android 2.2.1 (build 1.72.405.3) on an unbranded DHD in the UK (I'm on Orange if that matters) I'm getting frustrated with the wait for 2.3 to be released here so I want to install the official RUU that was released a little while back.
I understand that to do this my phone will still be "official" ish, and that the only real difference between this way and OTA is that I'll lose my apps etc. which I can handle.
I want to be able to try some custom roms (in the future) but then be able to return the phone to stock - I believe this is possible? Am I better off downgrading now and doing S-off / eng-off, clockwork recovery, root etc? Or will I be fine to downgrade from 2.3 to 1.32 in the future to do everything I'll need for custom ROMS?
Or am I a muppet and have things totally wrong?
Any help appreciated,
Grim.
Ps. I've read the sticky in the Development forum, and tried searching the forum to find answers but have found it difficult as the terms I'm searching for are really generic - for this forum at least.

Simple answer: Do it NOW!!!
Yes you can always go back to stock.
Much easier to do everything now.
Even if you only do root and S-OFF, you will be protected should the OTA update arrive in the sense that you won't need to downgrade again. But in for a penny and all that, go for the lot now and start exploring the greatness of Android and Sense (if you like that).

hi grim..
not neccesary you are going to lose your apk´s...
you can install "titanium backup" and do a backup of your apk´s, your system and your data (dialer, missed calls, wifi passwords...on sd-card\titaniumbackup) and then when you has installed your new gingerbread rom you can restore it.
download it from android market..
and finally say to you step by step what should to do:
1ºDOWNGRADE proccess from 1.72xx to 1.32xx wee off. ru
2ºroot with visionary Rxx
3º s-off eng-off+SUPERCID
4ºinstall ROM MANAGER from market and then flash a CWM recovery (lastest)
5ºDOWNLOAD the gingerbread rom, copy, paste to sd card root,
6ºDO FULL WIPE in recovery (factory reset, data, dalvik)
7ºFLASH the new rom and ENJOY

Hi grimbola
You can do anything, anywhere, and anyhow on your Desire HD (But make sure you know what you are doing. Lol.) It all depends on your risk appetite.
only follow the guides, it sounds more difficult than it is.
I did it as an unexperienced user 3 weeks ago and the master plan was, to read the guides
Hi guys,
Thanks for all the speedy replies! I read them last week, but have only now have the time to reply.
I did it! I downgraded to 1.36 (?) then ran the tool on my pc to do radio S-off then also ran the other tool to Eng S-off - I followed jkoljo's posts (from the sticky roll-up thread over on the development forum). I've now installed the official 2.3. It was a little scary at times, but easy as pie!
The only issue I had was that I don't think I backed up my apps correctly (I used Astro file browser to do it) as they have not all been restored, however this is no great pain!
I'm now thinking that I might try installing a custom ROM, maybe Leedroid? I'm after something that is like the stock rom - i.e. Sense based (at least to start with) but has more bells and whistles - any suggestions are welcome!
Once again many thanks for your replies,
Grim.
Ok, I have a rooted HTC Wildfire S. No custom Roms or anything I think, I just used the RUU I downloaded from HTCdev to unlock my bootloader.
Well here's my question. Well not my question but why I want to flash.
I want to flash my phone because I want a fresh installation with all the original HTC Wildfire S apps/widgets so I can use it as a back up, then from there install/remove what I want knowing there is a backup. I stupidly didn't backup the first time, although there is nothing wrong with my phone at this moment.
Now:
1) Is the file in this thread I have to use to flash my phone?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426611
2) When flashing, will I have to root again? First time was a piss take you see.
3) I used a clockworld mod, or whatever it was. Will that be erased ?
4) I used a zergRush method or something before because I got a error 190 the first time, will I most likely have to use it again? and there was something about emptying zerg or something?
5) If I blindly wrote this thread and there is a thread already answering these questions or a walkthrough for flashing HTC Wildfire S after rooting please point me in the right direction, and don't be uptight. Thank You.
BTW: HTC Wildfire S A510e, unlocked bootloader, rooted. No custom rom. Again, Thanks.

You most likely won't have root unless its a "customized" ruu. But its very simple to root again from the method i used which literally took me 10 seconds to root again.
You can go ahead and run the ruu but if root is removed, I can give you a zip to flash to give you root again. A matter of fact just download the zip from here at http://fs05n2.sendspace.com/dl/4a931031cb660f43df9c30ae5e737d64/4f557f3e25ecb39d/2l50jw/root.zip
