From last two days I am facing this issue. First it was with the LG G4 Stock Gallery app. It is either showing blank screens or white screen.

I had other Gallery app which was working for some time and now they are also showing problems. I have searched across the internet and did the following actions :
1. I have already tried force stopping and clearing data of Gallery APP.
2. I have already tried force stopping and clearing data of Media Store system app. After rebooting the pictures appears in gallery app but after sometime it goes back to same.
3. I have tried switching in safe mode but in there also same story with gallery app.
Can someone help me here?
:fingers-crossed:
Finally fixed this issue. The problem was that I have created a folder named Video from my laptop (connecting phone as external storage) while transferring some videos to SD card. Since the Folder named video was in root of sd card, I think it was wreacking the media scanner process. I isolated the issue by removing my sd card and rebooting. The gallery app was working fine. Then when I searched through sd card using ES file explorer, i noticed this folder (the reason I noticed was that this folder icon was different from others). I transferred the videos to another folder and deleted this folder and bingo, everything is perfect.
So if the mediascanner is getting confused, check the file structure first!!!
Hope this helps someone who faces this issue.

This is a ridicilous issue Once upon a time I was suffereing this problem even with shot photos with LG camera. LG gallery app can't be updated. They should have released a fix for this. You are right mediascanner works in a very bad different way. So only solutions are storing photos and videos in DCIM folder or We should use Cloud Backup like Google Photos or Flickr. I actually use Google Photos and I delete photos and videos which was backed up. I will never buy an LG phone again. This issue is only minor but annoying one...
So many thanks to you brother....even i faced the same issue... i downloaded a movie... and since then the gallery app started behaving strangely.... i did every possible troubleshooting...but nothing changed... and then came across ur article....and tadaaaa...am a happy soul again..... very helpfull article.....

You can see the extra folder on the bottom right
I remember on the evo 3d you could go to settings and make sure they didn't appear I don't see that on here ... and I get tired of erasing them. Also I don't want an app for gallery stock one is fine for me

I'm assuming you mean bottom left, not bottom right?
What are the images of? And they're not deletable from the Gallery app itself?
If you connect to a PC and dive into the folders, can you find where they are and delete them?

I use QuickPic instead of the Gallery, its much better and faster imo. QP has the option to hide folders you dont want showing up. If you are willing to try QP instead of Gallery that will solve your problem, but I dont know how to hide folders in the Gallery app.

In the root of the directory where the images are make a file called ".nomedia", clear the data on the gallery app and images will not come back.
Hey everyone, does anyone know how to remove the Google+/Picasa pictures from the gallery app? I went to settings and disabled Google photo sync but there are still 3 extra folders in the gallery - scrapbook photos, profile photos, and posts. I don't want them to show up in the gallery app.
Thanks.
This is an irritating issue. The only way I know how to solve this issue is to remove your account from your phone. After you add it again, you need to quickly navigate to your sync settings and uncheck "sync photos" before it begins.
I BELIEVE...clearing data/cache in G+ and Gallery after making sure the sync settings are disabled works.
But, indeed... irritating. I had it once. And it's a pain in the ass.
Thus, I'm not about to check if the above works =] I don't want to deal with it again, lol.
Edit:
As the above poster said: Deleting your Google account WILL work.
I'd then clear Gallery and G+ again just to be sure.
But it's again, a pain.
I've frozen Google+ (I don't use it), go to Settings> Apps> All> Gallery> Clear cache and all the Picasa/Google+ pics will disappear. Don't sync again. Cheers!
I just got my phone yesterday and noticed this issue. Thanks for the tips. Will try them out.
Get a file reader app and browse thru your folders until you come across a file labeled ".no media" copy it and paste into each location you don't want to show in gallery.
EDIT: any folder/file with a "."will become hidden unless you set hidden to show.

Android is upgrading...
I ve got a better solution.
Download picassa app from play store. Delete those pics from google-linked picassa account.
I was also annoyed by that issue. But i found this way to solve it.

clearing the data/cache in the gallery app works! Thanks guys.
Try downloading the gallery app called QuickPic. It works on both ICS and JB.
It auto hides those folders. You can hide and unhide folders from with in the gallery. Its been my go to gallery app for a long time.

Hi, to remove stuff from Picasa, go to settings, click on Apps, then wipe the screen right to left 3 times through Downloaded.... Running.....All.....scroll down to Gallery.. don't rely on the icon, read Gallery, click on, then Disable and clear Data from the storage area. that should clear the gallery icon from the Apps screen and the offending pictures, good luck
I recently moved all my pictures from my internal storage to my SD card but now the HTC gallery is having some trouble showing them. All my pics shown up fine in quickpic, but this is what I see in gallery.

Solution:Clearing the data from Media storage, then force stopping and restarting the phone did the trick!
Use ES file Explore.

Have you tried installing an app that rescans the phone for media like photos. This seems to solve the issue for me but I'm not moving anything to SD card this is on the phone itself

I would suggest clearing the data for the gallery app to force it to rebuild its database.
Reboot the phone or clear the gallery app data

Tried clearing the data and cache from the HTC gallery app but no luck.
Also tried some rescanning apps from the Play store, no luck.
However, clearing the data from Media storage, then force stopping and restarting the phone did the trick!
I had same issue as it was as simple as moving them from the dcim folder to a folder titled 'pictures'.
I had about 30 folders of pics and when I moved them to dcim on external sd the HTC gallery app couldn't see any of them.

It did the trick for me as well. THANK you , I had the issue, that non media where shown in all my gallery apps and Whatsapp closed every time it tried to open it. Both errors are solved with this solution!!!
Btw it happend after I did a clean flash of lineage os on my Oneplus two.
On Christmas day I was recording my kids opening their presents. I took 3 pictures while recording the video. About 25 minutes into recording I paused the video and set my phone down. When I picked it back up I noticed it had went to sleep. I unlocked the phone and noticed the video was no longer paused so I started a new one. Later when looking for the video it was nowhere to be found. However, the pictures taken during the recording of the video are there. I tried looking in all folders using explorer, checked google photos and drive on the web, and trash. My Pixel XL has 2.31 GB of cached data. Can the video be recovered from cache or anywhere else? There was no reboot or any other error that I could see that would cause it not to be saved. The phone is entirely stock and I have not had the issue before or since and have recorded an additional 4 videos.
Hm, I replicated your issue and the video is still in my camera photos. I'm not sure how yours disappeared
Same thing happened to me with a 10 min video....Also disappeared no where to be found recording my kid's Christmas carol. I think it had to do with the length of the video. Shorter video was never an issue.
Throughout today, I made several 9-minute or longer videos to test out something. Like I thought, they don't show up under Videos until they get backed up to Google Drive. I found them under my local Photos folder. But I'm sure you've looked everywhere.

7.1 has a user option to allow Android to delete files automatically when you start running out of space. Did you have this option enabled? Just curious.

CZ Eddie, thank you so so so much for your help in this community. I'm a big fan!
Regarding auto-deletion, I thought of that also. Then I thought the OP's videos would have to be at least 30 days -- and backed up -- before Nougat would remove it.
I've been trying to duplicate this problem, and just can't do it.
(PS: Really like your signature: Waiting for DU.... Yeah, me too!)

I don't have it enabled, and I have 18 GB still available so there should've been plenty of storage available. There are others that have experienced the same issue here: https://productforums.google.com/fo...!msg/phone-by-google/h8DSnmJVTro/YwLxxPFYEgAJ

I tried that but the phone just restarted several times, then the program said cannot connect to phone. Tried around 5-6 times.
Hello everyone,
New here, so hope I'm in the right place. I apologize for the length, I tried to be as clear as possible.
I have a six months old Samsung Galaxy S9, which went through factory hardware a couple of months ago. The most important and widely used feature is the camera. I backup photos using Google Photos for a couple of years (and devices).
Lately I noticed that while all of my photos taken since I started backing up through Google Photos are available through the Google Photos app, only some of them are available via the Samsung Gallery app.
I don't really use the Samsung Gallery app, so I wouldn't mind, but the photos that are not available via the Samsung Gallery app cannot be pulled and shared through the different apps (i.e. Whatsapp, Facebook app), which is a problem for me.
I tried to find the logic that differentiates between the photos that are available to be shared via apps (photos type A) and those are only available through the Google Photos app (photos type B):
1. All of the photos that have been taken using the S9's camera, backed up but not deleted from the phone itself are type A. However, when it comes to pיםאםד that were deleted from the device after backup, or photos taken prior to the S9, some of them (probably less than 1%) are available on Gallery and can be pulled (type A) and some aren't (type B).
2. With photos type A, on the upper left I have the option to "Delete from Device" (

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
); while on photos type B, I have the option to "Save to Device" (
) or “Download” (
). This is although all of these photos have been backed up and supposedly deleted from the device itself.
3. The storage location is different : for photos type A it looks like an internal whatsapp storage folder (even if the photo itself was taken prior to the S9) -
; while on photos type B it's only the file's name -
Any idea what’s going on here? Is there any way I can ensure all of the photos taken are saved like photos type A, and will remains so after backed-up and deleted from the device? Alternatively, is there a workaround to pull and share photos type B?
Thank you for your help,
Dorit
