On Christmas day I was recording my kids opening their presents. I took 3 pictures while recording the video. About 25 minutes into recording I paused the video and set my phone down. When I picked it back up I noticed it had went to sleep. I unlocked the phone and noticed the video was no longer paused so I started a new one. Later when looking for the video it was nowhere to be found. However, the pictures taken during the recording of the video are there. I tried looking in all folders using explorer, checked google photos and drive on the web, and trash. My Pixel XL has 2.31 GB of cached data. Can the video be recovered from cache or anywhere else? There was no reboot or any other error that I could see that would cause it not to be saved. The phone is entirely stock and I have not had the issue before or since and have recorded an additional 4 videos.
Hm, I replicated your issue and the video is still in my camera photos. I'm not sure how yours disappeared
Same thing happened to me with a 10 min video....Also disappeared no where to be found recording my kid's Christmas carol. I think it had to do with the length of the video. Shorter video was never an issue.
Throughout today, I made several 9-minute or longer videos to test out something. Like I thought, they don't show up under Videos until they get backed up to Google Drive. I found them under my local Photos folder. But I'm sure you've looked everywhere.

7.1 has a user option to allow Android to delete files automatically when you start running out of space. Did you have this option enabled? Just curious.

CZ Eddie, thank you so so so much for your help in this community. I'm a big fan!
Regarding auto-deletion, I thought of that also. Then I thought the OP's videos would have to be at least 30 days -- and backed up -- before Nougat would remove it.
I've been trying to duplicate this problem, and just can't do it.
(PS: Really like your signature: Waiting for DU.... Yeah, me too!)

I don't have it enabled, and I have 18 GB still available so there should've been plenty of storage available. There are others that have experienced the same issue here: https://productforums.google.com/fo...!msg/phone-by-google/h8DSnmJVTro/YwLxxPFYEgAJ

I've gone into the Advanced settings of the video recorder, but the option to change it is greyed out and is stuck on the small resolution. it worked the first day i used it a couple of weeks ago, but doesn't now. could I have installed a program that has taken control over this setting? thanks.
can anybody tell me what they have for this registry value?
HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Video "EncodeVdoPath" String

Thank you both for checking. No, this happened before I added those extra camera modes. I'm (hopefully) attaching some pictures to see if you or anyone else wants to take a stab at this.
First is at HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Video

Second one, HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\P2
Last one is a shot of my Advanced settings for my Video mode
Thanks for any effort. Much mahalos!
How are you accessing the video recorder? It seems to think it's in MMS mode, maybe try a few different approaches to launching the video recorder.

I normally access it by going to Programs, then Camera, then choosing Video. I've also accessed it through both links in TouchFlo3D. Each time, same result.
Are there any other ways?
Well it appears the setting I need to change is in picture 2. MainCamCaptSize is set to 2. On my wife's phone, it's set to 4096. When I try to change it, and soft reset, it changes back to 2. Any one have any ideas? Thanks!
Got a note from HTC saying that I need to do a hard reset to change my MainCamCaptSize value. Well duh! Please, can anyone take up my plight?
With the World Cup in full swing, I'm urgently looking for an app for WM simiar to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6815141#post6815141
the thread you linked to has just an mp3, not an app. to set it as a ringtone, copy it into the windows folder on your device memory (not sd card). you may have to reboot after this but then, it should be an option for setting as ringtone or alert
EDIT now that i think about it, you may have to convert to .wav or can use the mp3 trimmer app found on most ROMs
oh sorry- didn't see that it was just a mp3
I am actually looking for

Haha, class! Can't wait to annoy everyone at work with this. Thanks

It doesn't work on my Blackstone
After blowing the mic I get the message my phone is not supported. When I quit the app, the volume has gone to silent. Am I doing something wrong?
Are you blowing straight into the mic? (note you must blow BEFORE tapping Ok)
Eventually I passed the mic-check, but I don't hear anything while blowing in the mic.
Tried it too when tapping my finger on the screen while blowing, but it won't work
Still the volume is switched to silent after I close the app. Tried 1 to 5, no difference.
so neither sounds when tapping? I guess there is something wrong with your volume. In my case it reverts to my previous volume when I quit...
I just briefly tried it and it worked the first time on my Blackstone.
I really don't understand.
No sound when tapping either. Installed it on internal storage and storage card, no difference.
I've played music in the background while running the app and I can still hear it when tapping the screen. Still no vuvuzela-sound though. When I quit the program, the phone switches to silent-mode.
Really strange.

So indeed there was a problem on some ROMs maybe...
Just like the title says, all my photos and videos are all gone. I am stock, non rooted, running official Jelly Bean. Before people think I did something to cause this, I don't even have a file storage app to delete or move any photos (I do now, which is how I found out they were gone). I tried restarting my phone twice and they're not there. I looked online to see if anyone else had this issue and someone did and he never found the solution. I would post the link but I'm on my phone right now.
Has anyone else had this issue? This is really depressing, losing all my photos from the last few months. Nothing else on my phone has been affected.
If anyone knows or has any idea for a solution, let me know ASAP.
Thanks, in advance

I don't have an answer, but I wanted to send my regards. My pictures are important to me too. I believe the stock phone has a couple of ways of backing up the pictures when you plug it into the computer usb port. There are also a few third party alternatives. I know it's too late for the current pictures, but a thought.
also, did you check bot the phone and the sdcard memory? Maybe you only checked one spot, and the pictures are on another.
ya in all fairness a 50 gb dropbox which gives the option of backing up all photos and videos comes with the phone. Why not use it? that being said I can't believe the phone would just delete all that **** for no reason without a factory reset or something. I definitely recommend whats suggested above. make sure they're really gone before you freak
Yeah I checked on both my internal storage and sd card and no luck. I also checked hidden files and did find one video that I had taken but nothing else. And the only reason I didn't use the drop box storage is simply kuz I never expected this to be an issue and wasn't worried about it. Obviously now, I'm going to be much more cautious but I just wish I knew how it happened. It can't be malware or any malicious app kuz the only app I've downloaded recently was a game that was like in the editor's choice.

This is the first phone I've had problems with Google Maps. For some reason it's zoomed out following my route there is no say to get it closer. Ive cleared cache and data of the app. No joy. Can't think what else. Making navigation hard as can't seem to follow the route properly. Thanks

Hey, not an HTC 10 owner (galaxy s7 edge) but my google maps navigation just started doing the same thing today, it's a complete pain in the ass. Guess it's an app problem rather than your phone!
Maybe google play services has updated something and broken it!
Likewise on my LG Ultimate II, since yesterday.
I've found that the zoom-out issue only occurs when the phone is tilted (wide rather than tall), and only when "Tilt Map" is checked in the Navigation Settings. Unfortunately, that's precisely how I prefer to use it.
Hmm glad I'm not the only 1 then. Thought it was my new HTC10 being the problem.

I'm guessing it was some update which has screwed with it. Which is REALLY annoying!

I've already tried turning tilt off and on messing around with options doesn't make any difference. I always have my phone in landscape while driving. Haven't had chance to try in portrait.
I have noticed though if I'm on a long stretch of road it zooms right out then when I'm approaching hing a turning it does zoom in Abit more. But it's a stupid function.

Same here Sony Z3c, Send feedback to Google via the app, they obviously farked it up on the last update. I thought it was stuck in 2D mode, but its just zoomed out very far.
I note that as you get to junctions etc it does zoom in briefly, but then zooms out again afterwards.
From last two days I am facing this issue. First it was with the LG G4 Stock Gallery app. It is either showing blank screens or white screen.

I had other Gallery app which was working for some time and now they are also showing problems. I have searched across the internet and did the following actions :
1. I have already tried force stopping and clearing data of Gallery APP.
2. I have already tried force stopping and clearing data of Media Store system app. After rebooting the pictures appears in gallery app but after sometime it goes back to same.
3. I have tried switching in safe mode but in there also same story with gallery app.
Can someone help me here?
:fingers-crossed:
Finally fixed this issue. The problem was that I have created a folder named Video from my laptop (connecting phone as external storage) while transferring some videos to SD card. Since the Folder named video was in root of sd card, I think it was wreacking the media scanner process. I isolated the issue by removing my sd card and rebooting. The gallery app was working fine. Then when I searched through sd card using ES file explorer, i noticed this folder (the reason I noticed was that this folder icon was different from others). I transferred the videos to another folder and deleted this folder and bingo, everything is perfect.
So if the mediascanner is getting confused, check the file structure first!!!
Hope this helps someone who faces this issue.

This is a ridicilous issue Once upon a time I was suffereing this problem even with shot photos with LG camera. LG gallery app can't be updated. They should have released a fix for this. You are right mediascanner works in a very bad different way. So only solutions are storing photos and videos in DCIM folder or We should use Cloud Backup like Google Photos or Flickr. I actually use Google Photos and I delete photos and videos which was backed up. I will never buy an LG phone again. This issue is only minor but annoying one...
So many thanks to you brother....even i faced the same issue... i downloaded a movie... and since then the gallery app started behaving strangely.... i did every possible troubleshooting...but nothing changed... and then came across ur article....and tadaaaa...am a happy soul again..... very helpfull article.....
