Photos Not Available to Be Pulled via Apps on Samsung Galaxy S9 - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,
New here, so hope I'm in the right place. I apologize for the length, I tried to be as clear as possible.
I have a six months old Samsung Galaxy S9, which went through factory hardware a couple of months ago. The most important and widely used feature is the camera. I backup photos using Google Photos for a couple of years (and devices).
Lately I noticed that while all of my photos taken since I started backing up through Google Photos are available through the Google Photos app, only some of them are available via the Samsung Gallery app.
I don't really use the Samsung Gallery app, so I wouldn't mind, but the photos that are not available via the Samsung Gallery app cannot be pulled and shared through the different apps (i.e. Whatsapp, Facebook app), which is a problem for me.
I tried to find the logic that differentiates between the photos that are available to be shared via apps (photos type A) and those are only available through the Google Photos app (photos type B):
1. All of the photos that have been taken using the S9's camera, backed up but not deleted from the phone itself are type A. However, when it comes to pיםאםד that were deleted from the device after backup, or photos taken prior to the S9, some of them (probably less than 1%) are available on Gallery and can be pulled (type A) and some aren't (type B).
2. With photos type A, on the upper left I have the option to "Delete from Device" (

}
); while on photos type B, I have the option to "Save to Device" (
) or “Download” (
). This is although all of these photos have been backed up and supposedly deleted from the device itself.
3. The storage location is different : for photos type A it looks like an internal whatsapp storage folder (even if the photo itself was taken prior to the S9) -
; while on photos type B it's only the file's name -
Any idea what’s going on here? Is there any way I can ensure all of the photos taken are saved like photos type A, and will remains so after backed-up and deleted from the device? Alternatively, is there a workaround to pull and share photos type B?
Thank you for your help,
Dorit

Exif-gps info for pictures taken with geotag on?

Something Seems to be weird when I try and upload photos to sites that can extract the GPS Coordinates from photos taken with my evo.
I am using a custom rom, but I have tried several different roms and I get the same problem, I even tried flasing to a stock rom... same problem.
If I click and show the map when viewing details from the phone, it shows correctly. But when I upload it to this website that I am working on, I always show up in china someplace, the same place everytime. I have tried other pictures that I know have correct geotag information on the site and they show up correctly.
Can someone test this site and see if your geotagged photos taken from your evo show up right?

THANKS
On this one I manually entered the lat,lon in from the details view of the photo:

and this one I uploaded the photo directly... and end up in china

I think I figured it out....
the plugin I am using is referencing longitude to E, as you can see in the iphone photo that was taken shows up properly....
the evo is taking pictures and referenceing longitude to W and I end up in china.
I figured this out because I tried putting a "-" sign in before longitude and then they show up properly...
My question is... do all phones reference longitude and latitude differently? and why?
are i-phone photos all referenced to E and android to W?
ANYONE?

Eye experience - Features

Hi All,
I am unable to find all the features promised by JRC in the 4.4.4 update. - I personally am using the ARHD 20.1.
Features as described on this page: http://www.htc.com/us/innovations/eye-experience/
Automatic selfies/voice selfies. Found in settings.
Videochat. I have not been able to try this yet.
Split capture. Select it in modes. (Lame)
Crop-me-in. - I am unable to find this option? - We can cut and paste in pictures taken with the main camera, but we could do this before.
Face-fusion. - I am unable to find this option?
Live-makeup - This is found in settings. - I however do not see any change?
Photo booth - selet it in modes. (Really lame)
They write that not all features are available on all devices... We however have the topmodel? - What are your thoughts on this camera update?
What I personally like the most the video capture butten in the main camera interface.
/Benjamin

Experience a better way to video chat with Face Tracking. Sitting perfectly still is no longer necessary, because all you have to do is stay in frame and Face Tracking will automatically focus in on you.
From real-time screen sharing to video chats with up to 4 people, Face Tracking lets you naturally do your thing without compromising quality.
Compatible with most live video services such as Skype, Line, Hangouts, WeChat, and more.

I figured Eye Experience would be a separate update to the Gallery App in the Play Store. It says coming soon on the website, maybe they didn't roll out the graphical/ui changes yet, regardless of the settings being there or not. Crop Me In is exactly cut and paste with the Duo Camera effects stuff.
EDIT: "The HTC EYE Experience features will roll out to the following models in the coming months" IE not out yet.
Note the UI image of the icons.

Anyway to recover video?

On Christmas day I was recording my kids opening their presents. I took 3 pictures while recording the video. About 25 minutes into recording I paused the video and set my phone down. When I picked it back up I noticed it had went to sleep. I unlocked the phone and noticed the video was no longer paused so I started a new one. Later when looking for the video it was nowhere to be found. However, the pictures taken during the recording of the video are there. I tried looking in all folders using explorer, checked google photos and drive on the web, and trash. My Pixel XL has 2.31 GB of cached data. Can the video be recovered from cache or anywhere else? There was no reboot or any other error that I could see that would cause it not to be saved. The phone is entirely stock and I have not had the issue before or since and have recorded an additional 4 videos.
Hm, I replicated your issue and the video is still in my camera photos. I'm not sure how yours disappeared
Same thing happened to me with a 10 min video....Also disappeared no where to be found recording my kid's Christmas carol. I think it had to do with the length of the video. Shorter video was never an issue.
Throughout today, I made several 9-minute or longer videos to test out something. Like I thought, they don't show up under Videos until they get backed up to Google Drive. I found them under my local Photos folder. But I'm sure you've looked everywhere.

7.1 has a user option to allow Android to delete files automatically when you start running out of space. Did you have this option enabled? Just curious.

CZ Eddie, thank you so so so much for your help in this community. I'm a big fan!
Regarding auto-deletion, I thought of that also. Then I thought the OP's videos would have to be at least 30 days -- and backed up -- before Nougat would remove it.
I've been trying to duplicate this problem, and just can't do it.
(PS: Really like your signature: Waiting for DU.... Yeah, me too!)

I don't have it enabled, and I have 18 GB still available so there should've been plenty of storage available. There are others that have experienced the same issue here: https://productforums.google.com/fo...!msg/phone-by-google/h8DSnmJVTro/YwLxxPFYEgAJ

I had other Gallery app which was working for some time and now they are also showing problems. I have searched across the internet and did the following actions :
1. I have already tried force stopping and clearing data of Gallery APP.
2. I have already tried force stopping and clearing data of Media Store system app. After rebooting the pictures appears in gallery app but after sometime it goes back to same.
3. I have tried switching in safe mode but in there also same story with gallery app.
Can someone help me here?
:fingers-crossed:
Finally fixed this issue. The problem was that I have created a folder named Video from my laptop (connecting phone as external storage) while transferring some videos to SD card. Since the Folder named video was in root of sd card, I think it was wreacking the media scanner process. I isolated the issue by removing my sd card and rebooting. The gallery app was working fine. Then when I searched through sd card using ES file explorer, i noticed this folder (the reason I noticed was that this folder icon was different from others). I transferred the videos to another folder and deleted this folder and bingo, everything is perfect.
So if the mediascanner is getting confused, check the file structure first!!!
Hope this helps someone who faces this issue.

This is a ridicilous issue Once upon a time I was suffereing this problem even with shot photos with LG camera. LG gallery app can't be updated. They should have released a fix for this. You are right mediascanner works in a very bad different way. So only solutions are storing photos and videos in DCIM folder or We should use Cloud Backup like Google Photos or Flickr. I actually use Google Photos and I delete photos and videos which was backed up. I will never buy an LG phone again. This issue is only minor but annoying one...
So many thanks to you brother....even i faced the same issue... i downloaded a movie... and since then the gallery app started behaving strangely.... i did every possible troubleshooting...but nothing changed... and then came across ur article....and tadaaaa...am a happy soul again..... very helpfull article.....

Question Unable to change wallpaper after debloat

I recently debloated my new OnePlus 9 Pro. Everything seems to work fine (I did make sure to install replacement apps beforehand). However, today when I wanted to change the wallpaper (with a different "custom" photo), I noticed I can't do this any longer. Tapping on "album" (which is supposed to open a file picker where you browse to find a photo you want to use as a wallpaper) doesn't do anything:

If I tap on the second icon shown above (Inventive wallpapers), it still works and opens to this, as usual:
Here if I tap the second icon at the bottom, it will open the gallery app (I use the one from Simple Mobile Tools), where I can pick the photo. (However, I don't really want an "inventive" wallpaper.)
I suppose this second one uses the correct function to call whatever gallery app is set up as the default. And the first one probably wants something else - I suppose either stock Google Photos or Files apps, which I removed. Any idea how to solve this without having to install those two back?
Found the culprit: While de-bloating, I also removed com.oneplus.gallery which is the stock OnePlus Photos (because I figured Simple Gallery Pro from Simple Mobile Tools would replace the need for that as well).
So my assumption was right - the first icon calls directly this stock app, whereas the icon on the second screen finds the one gallery which is installed, or offers the choice to pick one, in case there are more installed.
