Hi there,
as you can read in the title, my Galaxy A5 2017 (SM-A520F) started behaving weirdly yesterday.
When using the device it shows no problems at all and behaves as expected.
But everytime I put the device into standby it reboots or crashes after 20 seconds or so.
I have not modified my device software in any way, not even rooted it.
My temporary solution has been to install a WakeLock app, which seems to keep the device from rebooting.
However I don't think this is the best solution, especially because it drains battery life more than necessary.
If anyone has any solutions or suggestions that would be great.
Thank you very much in advance.

Maybe try to factory reset or/and reflash firmware, or claim warrenty. This is not normal.

I already tried all of that. Not even a full factory reset could help. I guess the only thing left is to replace the phone :/
I got the exact same problem, I sent my phone to get it fixed.
I'll post the solution asap!
I have the same problem. Sometimes it reboots twice a day, sometimes it is ok for a week.

Same exact problem over here. Glad I'm not the only one.
It doesn't seem like it's a software issue, so there's nothing we can do about it. Just go to the store where you bought it, they will then send it to Samsung to have it repaired. If you still have your warranty it won't even cost anything. They repaired my phone in 5 days and I'm happy to report that it's now fully working again.
The Root of the problem is the fingerprint scanner, i just desactivated it and now it's fix... The fingerprint scanner is kinda broke :/ i Saw that this problem appairs on nexus 5 in 2015...

Hi all,
I own the p5200 (Tab3 10.1) for a few weeks.
Recently I noticed that the device sometimes randomly shuts down by itself, and I have to power it on again by myself.
It mostly happens when I don't use it (and than come back to use it and it's dead) - but it also happened once when I used it.
Did any of you guys experience that weird behavior ?
I don't believe it is a hardware defect, rather then a software/kernel issue (maybe even the previous generation's SOD problem?)
Appreciate any help!

The problem seems to be getting worse, now it happens a few times a day,
I read some and thought it may have to do with the Sleep of Death.
If anyone knows anything about it I would be more than happy to know,
Thanks,

Thanks for the reply,
I'm running stock unrooted/modified XXUBMI5 firmware.
Hi,
same/similar problem on my P5200/10", stock not rooted firmware 4.2.2 - after cca a month of using random switch-off started, after another few weeks it was more and more frequent and the tab was usable only very hardly. my quess was some HW error like bad battery concact, as it happened mostly during tab movement/shaking/turn arounds etc.
Sent back to vendor to reclaim, back after a month with factory reset and message "problem not reproducible". and really, it was not happening(!)
Another week or two has passed since then - and random switch offs are again back, now also when there is no movement (i.e. overnigth). I am planning to try to save some logs to find why it happens (some bad application?) or at least to prove to vendor it really happens. then I will try also another factory reset (however, I do not like to setup it again and again and backup/restore might not work, if it is caused by some app ).
When this happened to me on a previous device, it turned out to be SD card related. The SD card would unmount and that would apparently freeze my tab, usually shutting it down. Then again I was using a swapfile and had most of my apps installed to the SD card. But I figured I'd mention.

thanks, but I have no external SD card inside, there is just the internal one, which is not removable.

Hi,
Same here - no SD card involved.
I can update that "somehow" those random shutdowns did not occur in the past few days (where before it happened a few good times a day)
I can also say that when the device is connected to a charger no shutdowns whatsoever.
Also, in the past few days battery is draining much faster than before.
Personally I think it is the battery, October's bad battery batch of the S4/S3 reminded me that this could be the issue here as well.
Tried to look online for a battery replacement to buy, but without any luck so far.
alfi_ , if you have any new info I would very much like to know
Thanks!

Hi,
so far nothing special - as it does not happen while on charger, also log via USB is useless. and the log via TCP is empty.
what I have seen in discussions / heard from more experienced people, incl. the branded service partner, it can be often caused by some additional application (for me its hard to believe. and if the same happens to PC computer, it will definitely be a reason to return the device). but anyway I would suggest you to make a backup and try the factory reset too. then test it for some time without any new installed application.
for my one it looks little better after reset (weird behaviour), but it still randomly shuts down. then I am going to visit a service center personally to present there the behaviour, but it may take some time..
Hi,
the problem was reproducible also in the service center with factory setting without any other application installed, so after a month the tab is back with replaced mainboard (part gh82-07643a) - and so far no problem. hopefully it will not repeat anymore
I've been experimenting the same issue. Sm t311, stock unrooted rom.
It happens when the device is sleeping, it just fails to come back.
I've seen it happen with and without sd card, with and without power cord attached. It doesn't seem to be related with the sleeping timespan either.

one, maybe useful info when this happens, which I was not aware of - androids v4.1 and newer have the possibility to boot into "safe mode", where all additional installed applications are disabled. so before you try factory reset and reinstall/reconfigure all applications, you can try also this. (I am wondering this option was not told me by the service). on tab 3 10" you can reach it while booting and the logo is shown, press and hold both volume keys.
battery terminal
I seen a post somewhere that samsung forgot to secure the battery terminal, on some tabs. I have the pics of the teardown, in case I ever needed them. I'll post a link. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rg53ls0004rgdjr/ARJ-ecv2NA/teardown (1)

After troubleshooting this issue and discarding possible causes such as charching problem, smart cover side effect, defective sd, etc etc, I had given up on my T311 and decided to start experimenting with some custom roms (after all, it's painless to brick a defective tablet). Somehow, after flashing FastDream the issue disappeared.
It has run for 27 hrs straight without turning itself off.

Hi, I have problem with my Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 gt p 5200.
Tablet without noticeable reason began randomly shut down by itself.
Sometimes in an hour goes off 5-6 times, and sometimes working 5-6 hours without turning off.
Tablet can not be sent to the service because it was purchased abroad.
On it is the original untouched Android 4.2.2.
I tried a factory reset and re-flash with the latest android from sammobile.com , but it didn't help.
Does anyone has a similar problem or solution.
Thanks in advance
Today when leave my phone for 5 min then the screen off and I can not open it again until after pressing long on the power button, the tab Restart and worked and when left without using it for for 5 minutes, the screen off again.
and I opend it by restarting

I had this problem to once, after restart it works again and others also had this problem. Someone fixed it by disassembling the device and was about LCD ribbon that cause this behaviour. Bad quality control as it seems to be and shame on Samsung.
Send it back and replace it if possible, or for repairs and if want to fix it you self:

I had this problem but after rooting my device, so I did re-flashing with stock rom and everything went normal.
I think it is a software not a hardware error. I had this problem with nearly all Samsung tablets (p-1000, p6200, 7500 and lately with the note 10.1_2014)
and every time I did re-flashing with stock rom and everything went normal.

Some body told me this software problem and others told hardware and I must replace the screen.
I am writing now from my device which had this problem, i bought the phone from KSA from 2 weeks ago and from the first day of use it made restart about 10th time per day until appear this problem, so I'll try to send it to Samsung office their.
I hope they can solve this problem or replace it.
Hello everyone! I own a Galaxy Nexus that's running one of the Cyanogenmod 4.4 snapshots. While watching a youtube video my phone froze up and shut itself off. I rebooted and after a few moments the same thing happened. When I power up my phone one of two things happen. It either reboots while booting and automatically attempts to boot again or it manages to turn on for a short while and then turns itself off.
I believed the issue was a battery or hardware one at first but after leaving my phone booted in recovery for half an hour with no ill effects I think something else might be up. What do you guys think is the best course of action? The only thing I've done is a factory reset that has done nothing.
Anyone?

Factory Reset and reflash the rom. If that doesn't work try flashing another rom like Vanir. If your phone still shuts off...well unfortunately this may be a hardware related issue, nothing you can do if that's the case. Unless it's your battery which I highly doubt.
I think it's the same thing that happened to me a year ago, check this out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/help/bricked-phone-t2306672
for me it was a hw related problem, i had to send the phone back to assistance and have it repaired (it was still under warranty).
Good luck :good:
Thank you all for your ideas. I'll report back my findings later today.
Same problem over here. Tried a lot of roms (custom and stock from Google page), took it to assistance (no warranty though) was told is a hardware issue. Since replacing the mainboard its the same price as a new phone... well you know.
But a curios thing happened: tried to flash the Ubuntu Touch rom, same problem (reboots at Ubuntu start screen) and the Firefox-OS, that one worked (considering it's limitations obviously)!
I was just wondering if anyone else has an issue with their Note 4 rebooting randomly with no external input. This started happening with the Android 6.0 update both on the download from here and the AT&T official release, Any Ideas? I've already purchased a new battery due to a separate issue, any idea?
I had the same problem. The phone would freeze and randomly reboot. Sometimes the system crashes and asked me for the typed-in password (not fingerprint). Sometimes when I charge the phone, and unplug the power cable, the charging led stays lit and the battery has to be pulled. I decided to switch the battery with my wife's Note 4 and see if the effects remained. So far I haven't had any problems after switching the battery, so I believe the battery may be the cause of all these issues. I'll keep you updated on the issues.
I'm back. The battery replacement didn't fix the reboots. I think my phone's hardware is permanently damaged. :crying:

can you downgrade to Android 5.0.1 and help me with my problem?
its something completely different to this topic
I've been having the same issue, started about 2 weeks ago. phone would start being sluggish then if I continue tapping on screen, it'll reboot. At least once I saw it go into recovery & reinstall firmware(?). Another time it just sat at the bootloader screen waiting for software download or something till I took out the battery. Most likely it's a software issue related to 6.0 update or updates afterwards. taking out the SD card helped a bit.
but basically got annoyed & upgraded to LG V20 today. Coincidentally, there was another person at the AT&T store with a Note 4 having the same issue.
Mine just rebooted twice on me a while ago, first is emergency calls only now the reboots then what. And yes the slow charging is a problem too. MM got serious issue dam att

use wakelock its an app u get it from play store.it makes ur cpu always running.some how it fixes the problem of random reboots. dl it and set it to partial lock (the 5th option)
Same problem. Just started a few weeks ago. REALLY frustrating having to enter my password every 3-4 minutes. NEVER buying another Samsung, too many damn issues with this phone.
My reboots tend to happen once the phone goes below 60% battery. It's fine above 60%. Once it goes below 50%, the reboots tend to happen with any intense network activity. The phone will often go from 50% to 22%. I forgot what the 30's and 40's look like. I will try the Wakelock app.
Ugh. I posted about this a few weeks ago. It's started happening more frequently and will occasionally go into a boot loop or show 0% battery even though there's a charge.
Has anyone found any solution? I haven't tried wiping / resetting but I'm getting close to trying it.
Here is a cautionary tale for you. My completely stock, unroooted phone started acting the same exact way. On the 4th or 5th battery pull (to fix a frozen screen) it just crapped out. It's totally unresponsive. Deader than a door nail. Tried everything. The download mode, discharging by power button depression/battery removal, etc. Adb shell command does not detect it. Nor Odin. Computer throws up a qhsusb_bulk error when I plug it into pc. I have NO CLUE how to fix it & I am desperately seeking a solution. Please proceed wisely with your oddly acting phones & don't let this happen to you.

Same issue. Just got off the phone with Samsung support, all possibility of having this particular phone with this particular issue sent in for evaluation has been suspended. Translation, they know it is an issue and will not stand by the changes they push to their products (latest OS). I am researching the prospect of legal action since THEY pushed the new OS against my request. Shouldn't that affect the warranty or coverage? Consulting my attorney friends as we speak. Will let you know. I am not sure how WakeLock will help, it is not going to sleep, it is repeatedly power cycling through a kernel process until the battery overheats or it reboots.
Same issue
Since Marshmallow, my 910A will get sluggish or freeze, shut down, sometimes reboot and sometimes just brick (temporarily). Sometimes--more often in recent days, I get a "dll_mmc read fail" message and the target that says do not stop downloading. No matter what I've tried--factory and soft resets, cache clearing, battery pull, replacement, and SD card switch, contacting AT&T and Samsung rep--it doesn't seem to change. This is a daily issue and becoming more frequent. Any suggestions or do I just need a new phone? Thank you.
Hello,
I have a problem with my LG G4 constantly rebooting.
I bought it in December 2015 from Taiwan and he got a bootloop issue on october 2016. After some mails sent to LG and the reseller, I managed to get an RMA and got it repaired in February 2017. But it started to randomly reboot several times a day, especially while low on battery. Since I had difficulties to repair it and that it was no longer under reseller warranty, I decided to keep it and try to buy a new battery but it didn't change anything. Two weeks ago, the problem got worse and my phone started rebooting whenever I turned the screen off. I tried to factory reset and update to the latest Android version but it didn't change anything. I also tried to get something with the logs but there was nothing really interesting.
Since I can't really send it back for repair, I would like to know if you could help me even though I think this is a hardware problem and it will be really difficult to repair.

Is there a permanent fix to the bootloop problem ? And I don't really have a bootloop problem, my phone is working well until some times or if I turn off the screen.
Also disabling the cores would make my phone almost unusable. I don't need to recover the data, I would like to have a working phone.

if youve tried restoring stock firmwares already seems like it would be more of a hardware issue that a software thing if u only disable the big cores with the phone is most def still usable
