LG G4 rebooting while idle - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a problem with my LG G4 constantly rebooting.
I bought it in December 2015 from Taiwan and he got a bootloop issue on october 2016. After some mails sent to LG and the reseller, I managed to get an RMA and got it repaired in February 2017. But it started to randomly reboot several times a day, especially while low on battery. Since I had difficulties to repair it and that it was no longer under reseller warranty, I decided to keep it and try to buy a new battery but it didn't change anything. Two weeks ago, the problem got worse and my phone started rebooting whenever I turned the screen off. I tried to factory reset and update to the latest Android version but it didn't change anything. I also tried to get something with the logs but there was nothing really interesting.
Since I can't really send it back for repair, I would like to know if you could help me even though I think this is a hardware problem and it will be really difficult to repair.

Is there a permanent fix to the bootloop problem ? And I don't really have a bootloop problem, my phone is working well until some times or if I turn off the screen.
Also disabling the cores would make my phone almost unusable. I don't need to recover the data, I would like to have a working phone.

if youve tried restoring stock firmwares already seems like it would be more of a hardware issue that a software thing if u only disable the big cores with the phone is most def still usable

Ok, I will try it when I have time. I heard that disabling only cores 4 and 5 can fix the problem but I can't find a guide to do it :/
EDIT : I have found this : https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66893920&postcount=2

Weird Problem, Note 2 hangs very frequently now

Hi All
Few weeks back, my note 2 used to hang once in about two days and I thought it is normal. Lately, it is giving a lot of problems as it hangs as many as 40 times in a day, that too for no reason at all.
To make it work, I have to restart it by taking out battery or long pressing the power key, and sometimes doing so even 10 times doesn't solves the hanging issue. I am on stock rom 4.1.2 (India) fully updated and never rooted.
Do you think maybe RAM or the Processor is at fault. Is there anyway or app to test these for defects.
Although it is painstaking but I am planning to reset the phone, do you guys think it will help?
Any chance my phone is heading towards SUDDEN DEATH, are these the symptoms?
I am so fed up of rebooting it again and again and in the process missing important calls.
Help me deal with this situation guys..
No sds is sudden and india has the latest sds fixed roms available. Yeah you can start with a factory reset

Resetting was the last thing on my mind, but I guess you are right. Will start with factory reset and post further development.
Have ame problem here.
Don't know yet seems to be sds problem?
Is posible to replacement new unit?

It is usually because of the bad update or the high usage of the storage (keep in mind when you used the first time and compare it to now, there is a diference) the best that you can do is to do full wipe as they said but if this doesnt work try to update using emergency firmware (or something similar) via Kies it must be enough.
If it doesnt help then is a problem of the device itself or maybe the official update if more than one is having the same issue
Hope it helps to you, bests

Factory reset solved my problem for now but overall the phone seems to lag a bit, but not a cause for concern. I guess the hangs were largely due to number of messages stored, call logs and maybe some applications.
Though there was one weird thing, when I connected my phone to kies for backing up, the firmware section displayed that my firmware version is not allowed to update via kies.
Absolutely same issue , in my case even factory reset hasnt worked. Have tried unmounting the externl sd and kept very basic vanilla apps. It hangs every time i interact with the screen and the only wy out is to hard boot it.
PLs help if someone has the same issue.
Had the same problem with rebooting only was 2-3 times a day. Changing to a different firmware fixed it. Download a newer firmware wipe cache, dalvick and factory reset then flash new firmware. Hopefully will fix your issues guys.

Yep, It doesn't work in my case too. rebooting into recovery and deleting the cache folder helps a while, and then it comes back.. will go to a service center tomorrow if it's still happening

I had the same problem
1: Did a factory reset
a: didnt install anything...the moment i went to set up the email it hung.
2: Took to the service centre
a: He reinstalled the stock ROM. After rebooting and while setting up the device it hung again.
b: Tomorrow they will either changes the PCB or the screen depending on what the tech feels is the issue.
Regarding memory... after a reset it shouldnt have hung. + have tried it without the 32gb card also.
Will let you know what comes out.
But yes it was working fine and all of a sudden it started hanging last few days.
the strangest thing is that sometimes the screen doesnt respond to touch EXCEPT the notification bar, it goes alright in that area, I can even toggle the buttons and swipe away the notifications, but if i close the notification bar, open it again, ANY action (swiping notifs, clicking button, etc) would instantly hung the phone. strange eh?
i had the same problem, and i checked my emmc and it was the one that has the bug. Just finally got the SDS today.

I'm in the U.S. and we don't have a service center since these phones are only for International. Samsung USA says they won't fix it, and EU says we aren't EU residents. I have the same chip.
The only place i found so far is http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-note-ii-emmc-chip-repair-replacement/ and they charge $150. They have a facebook that mentioned that were able to get the emmc chips this past week and have now started to do repairs.
They are located in Texas so I'll be sending my phone to them this upcoming Monday. We'll see how long it takes and the turn around time. If anyone else has tried them, please let us know how long it took.

Hello!
I'm glad (unfortunately for us) to see that some people have the same issue. I bought the phone on November and I have the "hangs" since 1 week. Hard reset didn't solve the problem for me, even without restoring my backups or apps. I tried to remove the SD card, and the problem persist.
I think the SDS problem is not exactly this one, but It may be related.
Today, I'll go to the seller and I'll see what I can do...
Thank you for the information! I'll post with the updates of my case

G4 Bootloop

Hi Guys,
i am really confused and a little bit angry. The Following happened to me today:
My Phone (Unrooted, Locked BL) was behaving weird this morning.
It just randomly crashed and wouldn't boot up.
Eventually i got it to boot once or twice, but still it crashed, shut down and Bootloop.
A Reqular Factory Reset did nothing. now i'm trying to install the Regular KDZ-File for the H815, but things are just not working as expected.
Has anyone else had this problem before?
Is it normal that the LG Flash Tool is on 1% for over 5 Minutes and nothing changes on the Phone screen?
I want to know what has broken my phone so bad, cause this time, I just used it the way it was supposed to be used, no hard drops, no rooting, no changing of software in any means.
First LG Phone and it broke with no warning and no explenation. I'm a little disappointed right now.

The same happened to mine. Are you able to get to download mode by powering off your phone and plugging it into your computer? Im able to flash stock ROMs but nothing helps. The phone reboots by itself at random times and makes it into the operating system a few times but is never usable.

Hey,
yes i can get into download mode.
I am able to flash files, but the phone wont boot up anymore.
I just want to save my data, but i guess i wont be able to do so.
So i have to get to the store and get a new g4
Luckily i made a backup of my two weeks ago, so not much will be lost.
I also send an email to the LG customer Service, will post their reply here too.
I am really disappointed by LG at this point, i usually had motorola phones and they didn't have random errors like this one.
I switched to LG, cause G4 sounded awesome, but this error is making me sad.
I am really thinking that i won't buy another LG Product, which is making me sad too, cause usually most things made by them are great.

//==============First Request by me:======================
Hello dear LG-Service Team,
i just bought the premium product LG-G4.
Since some days, the Phone is beginning to hang and reboot, resulting in a bootloop.
Sometimes the phone boots, than optimizing Android for about 30 minutes (100+ Apps installed). After this happened, i kann use it again, but not fully.
To shortcut eventual questions:
The Phone is in factory State, no Custom Rom installed. The bootloader is locked and the Phone has not been rooted.
The mistake seems to come from your firmware.
I am really disappointed, because i paid a lot of money and no have a product which is barely usable.
I switched to LG because of the G4 and i don't want to regret this decision.
Kind regards

Email and response, translated by me, so there might be some mistakes...
I don't like the response, it feels like not being taken seriously.
Well, nevertheless, i will go to the retailer and will see what happens.
I will keep you updated.
What do you think of this response?

That response is terrible lol. I called in and they said they do not support my phone because it is an international version. So there was nothing they could do for me.
I have a similiar issue, but mine was due to a OTA update, and I didn't know about the download mode until now.
Thanks.
Any tips when I can get into the download mode? I just wanna recover my personal data (images, and texts)? Flashing STOCK image would preserve the personal data right?
While your phone is off, plug it into your computer while holding volume up. If you are using LG flash tool to flash a .KDZ firmware file, you will come across an option that says Normal flash or CSE Flash. Normal flash will not wipe data, while CSE Flash will. I have flashed stock images and it didn't work. Hopefully it works for you though.

+1 I'm in same boat and exact same issue with my H815. I love the device but this is unacceptable.
I'm having the same problem, it just happened to me all of a sudden and now I can't even get to the boot animation. I've been able to get into recovery 2 or 3 times but usually it just restarts before it even gets there. I recently updated to the newest xposed framework (though I've restarted just fine a few times after I installed it), did anyone else here do the same?
When I get home from work I'm going to keep attempting to fix it, I've flashed my current TOT but it failed after rebooting. I don't know if I'm having the same problem as everyone else but I'll update if I can find a solution.
same issue here on the at&t 810. Starting about 3 days ago I started getting random reboots + bootloops. Sometimes it would boot to the LG logo and stick, sometimes to the AT&T logo and stick, sometimes to the OS and freeze after the lock screen appeared. I can get into the OS and use it for awhile, then it will restart and it all begins again. 2 factory resets so far and no dice. I am rooted on 10e but have a warranty device on the way which undoubtedly will be on a higher firmware and will likely miss out on the potential coming bootloader unlock. At this point I am probably going to sell on craigslist and get a 6p. The phone is great when it works and I love the size, the looks, and the screen, but the lag and these reboots are unacceptable.
Just a short update by me:
I gave it to the retailer, they said it would take about 10 Days.
I hope this stuff won't happen again or this was the last time i am buying a LG Product.
I think i would have been better off by sending it directly to LG but nevertheless, maybe giving it to the retailer will make my warranty stay longer
I will keep you updated, including firmware Version the phone has after sending it in and so on.
All of the sudden my phone today just froze leaving me with a black background and no animations, the phone is very hot if I try to use it on that moment. Even when I reboot the phone stays very very slow and says system it's no responding.
What can I do? Even when a Reboot it some times works normal then suddenly does it again.

Sounds like a heat problem in your case.
What happens if you pull out the battery, wait 10 minutes to let the phone get cold and than reboot?
Well, no luck on my end. I could only even get into recovery one out of every 50 times or so that I tried, and when I managed to I wasn't able to sideload any system software because it wouldn't initialize the driver (my computer recognized the phone just fine, except the ADB portion). Clearing the data did nothing either. Luckily I'm on Sprint and the phone's being recalled anyway, so I just walked in and they swapped it no questions asked. At least after flashing a TOT and clearing the data they shouldn't have an easy way to tell I was rooted or anything.

same random rebooting issue here as well. and I just bought this phone brand new from a 3rd party :/
Update: I seem to have gotten past the problems after updating to 10n. Now running stock debloated 10n rom with no reboot issues (so far)
Update 2: Had 1 - 2 cycle bootloop on 10n

I don't see how you giving your phone to your retailer will extend your warranty. That makes absolutely no sense, since your warranty begins from your date of purchase.
My phone also ended up with the bootloop and having to exchange with a new unit. I'm on the TMO Variant H811.

Actually German Law is a little bit different.
Regular warranty is not what i meant in my post, i meant the "Gewährleistung" its an additional kind of warranty given out by the retailer.
There are some cases in which this "Gewährleistung", which usually lasts for about 2 Years is made longer. Mostly this happens when the retailer would have to send in a product for the third time, they basically give out a new one, which will be treated like a NEW device. So new Warranty, new "Gewährleistung".
I hope this somehow made sense
Today i got my phone back.
They repaired it.
Everything is like it was before, so i am pretty sure they didn't change it.
Firmware Version is 10d.
The Phone is working so far.
Will keep you updated if anything changes.

Recovered from bootloop with hard reset

Hi, I don't know if this has been mentioned anywhere and yes i know the bootloop issue is a big problem but i wondered if anyone else has been semi-successful like me. First off the other day my phone rebooted and ended up in a bootloop except the screen never goes completely blank it just dims and comes back on. I did a hard reset and it starts working again for a few days. Then when i connect to wifi it will reboot all of a sudden and be fine until it reboots again and i have to hard reset for another few days. sometimes when looping it will get to the updating apps screen then when it finishes it loops again.
Is this the standard bootloop or does it seem like something different?
Sorry if this is just another repeat of an old issue it just seems to be slightly different from what i have read about the bootloop caused by the known hardware issue. Also the first 3 digits of the serial are 507 if this helps.

Maybe yours is jut preparing for proper bootloop maybe the pins on the bigger qualcomm chip still connect to the motherboard from time to time so you manage to get it booting. Though I wouldn't call it a working device so I would suggest you to start working with LG to have it fixed.

Dont play around with it too much it might get permanently bricked ur best option now is to flash a lollipop kdz root it then apply the disable core method to working it again ofcourse the phone will be slow ...or u could just send it to lg for replacement or repair...check youtube for disable core method for g4
I have just plugged it into Lg bridge and run the update error recovery. It hasn't rebooted when connecting to wifi yet but if it does I'm just going to phone LG to sort out a repair and buy a temp phone to use while that happens. I just don't want to do anything that could affect warranty although usually, the warranty would be out the window on day 1 with me
It just seems weird that every time I have seen it reboot it was when it connected to wifi.

LG G3 freezing and restarting, staying in boot loop sometimes

Hello,
Since 2 weeks ago my phone has been started acting all weird. It started with my Phone freezing and restarting itself one morning. It showed the LG logo for a few seconds, then went black and the same thing repeated. LED did not start blinking at first but after a few loops the LED came on, the animation played and phone turned on nicely. No more such problems during the rest of the day.
Fast forward 2 days. It got worse. The freezing and restarting happened more often and at one point it was in the LG logo -> black screen -> LG logo loop for a good 10 minutes before it booted. It also drains my battery about 10% every single time.
So I decided to do a Hard Reset when I managed to keep the phone running long enough. The hard reset process itself worked flawlessly, no issues during the reset what so ever. I though the problem was over until a few minutes after the hard reset when I was reinstalling my apps, it froze and restarted again.
I started googling about the issue and found a few matches. Some people suggested replacing the battery and some suggested putting a piece of paper between the battery and the SIM card slot from which I did the latter. That actually worked for a few days until the reboots came back and it got worse by the day when it finally was completely unusable since it kept restarting after booting up (usually it didn't even get to that point). Then I decided to try a new battery because it was the cheapest option available at that moment.
At first all looked good on a new battery but still, just a few minutes after rebooting the phone from a new battery it froze yet again and restarted itself. So 25€ wasted on nothing.
At this point I'm starting to run out of options and really would not like to buy a new phone since my G3 is only two years old (warranty just ended in October 2016).
Any suggestions are more than welcome at this point.
Best regards,
Taavi
Yesterday I tried flashing the stock V30B marshmallow ROM onto the phone using LG flash tool 2014. It lasted without restarts for about an hour and then it all started again.
So in conclusion:
A) It's not the battery.
B) It's not the software.
C) Thus it must be the hardware.
Since my warranty is void already, the repair costs would probably be quite large.
I think the only chance left for me is to suck it up and buy a new phone.
It was fun while it lasted though. RIP.
Funny thing is that after I removed my SIM card, the issues have stopped for ~24 hours. Yesterday I was able to browse reddit and watch videos for almost 2 hours straight with no issue when I had no SIM card in the phone. I will try inserting the SIM card again after I have fully recharged it to see if maybe it has something to do with the SIM card connection.
Put in the SIM card and it didn't even last 24 hours before restarting. Took it out again. Unfortunately it now restarted even without the SIM card so it still must be some hardware failure.
Same issue here. Changed battery, factory reset, rooted and TWRP+CyanogenMod 14.1 flashed and SU granted.
Constant reboots. Sometimes bootlooped until I remove battery
Having the same problem. Tried new battery but it turned out to be a cheap clone that was worse than old battery. Got another from mbuynow which last longer but still restarts but not that often. Tried the paper trick to to avail. Also tried the LG suite to see if it helped but no luck. Running marshmallow 6.0 and have done a full reinstall. Is this likely to be hardware problem?

Tried the paper trick to to avail. Also tried the LG suite to see if it helped but no luck. Running marshmallow 6.0 and have done a full reinstall. Is this likely to be hardware problem?

Cannot tell for sure but seems it is a hardware problem which is really sad since besides the restarts the phone is still in very good shape. I would take it to repairs but as my warranty is already void it would make sense to simply buy a new phone and sell the current one to parts.
I have the same problem... I flashed CRDroid or something with Android 7.0, it booted normally, but then, restart after few minutes... It can boot normally with the usb to computer, but not with charger. It can also boot to twrp, wipe, install and fix the system works, installing other roms works too, and they can boot normally, but it shut down, as soon I remove the cable... I thought it was nougat rom, it change some in system files or drivers like battery options... I'm out of options...

Seems like a battery issue I think you need a new battery if it's working without the wire plugged in
Sent from my LG-D852 using Tapatalk
I have 2 phones. This thing seems to puff exactly after 2 years coz they were bought in difrent times and both of them emerge this issue after 2 years for each. boootlops were after few minutes from start. In case of first one new battery was a bingo but i did not investigate second - im going maybe for new phone. Funny thing. Maybe product life time was to planned to good(for producer)?
I was a great phone, longest I have and most customised... Very agile, never had bricked, bootlooped or failed to flash... Thank you for your great support, LG G3.... Rest in Peace... If someone can bring it back to life, I'll be back to that.
I'm counting on someone stumbling on a fix as well. It's still an awesome phone expect for this stupid thing.
I had similar issues but I realized that different SIMs seemed to work with the phone. Went to my carrier and requested a new one. Since then, no issues. Maybe something with the sim card slot?

It happens even when my SIM card is not in the phone. It could easily be the SIM card tray but cannot confirm without taking it to repairs.
Did you try disabling Location?
(I had random reboots when the battery went to 25% and when i disabled Location services,it got fixed)

One of the hard resets I did was from full charge and I didn't enable anything, including location. It still went into the reboot loop.

It might be a hardware problem in some LG G3 phones.
It began rebooting and bootlooping after 2 days, that i had disabled the location services.
Now i'm thinking of getting a new battery but i don't really think it will do any effect..
So i might buy a new phone..

I had the same problem as you,i bought a new battery and everything got fixed.(you need exact the same Model of battery so when you go to a store note the model of the battery)
Temporary Fix
1- Remove the SIM, turn on the phone, put it in Airplane Mode.
2-Insert the SIM turn on the phone.(Don't change Air mode).
3- Turn off auto backup/restore in settings.
4-Go to network setting>Preferred network Type.
5-Turn Off the Airplane Mode and immediately SELECT THE 3G only(Before it catches the signals), in some phones WCDMA only.(Do not Select 4G/LTE/2G).
6-Done
7-Restart the phone.(Now it will not reboot)
Drawbacks:
In 2G signal zone, There will be no signals.
Its a hardware problem,But its a way to trick it.

Galaxy A5 2017 crashes and reboots when in standby

Hi there,
as you can read in the title, my Galaxy A5 2017 (SM-A520F) started behaving weirdly yesterday.
When using the device it shows no problems at all and behaves as expected.
But everytime I put the device into standby it reboots or crashes after 20 seconds or so.
I have not modified my device software in any way, not even rooted it.
My temporary solution has been to install a WakeLock app, which seems to keep the device from rebooting.
However I don't think this is the best solution, especially because it drains battery life more than necessary.
If anyone has any solutions or suggestions that would be great.
Thank you very much in advance.

Maybe try to factory reset or/and reflash firmware, or claim warrenty. This is not normal.

I already tried all of that. Not even a full factory reset could help. I guess the only thing left is to replace the phone :/
I got the exact same problem, I sent my phone to get it fixed.
I'll post the solution asap!
I have the same problem. Sometimes it reboots twice a day, sometimes it is ok for a week.

Same exact problem over here. Glad I'm not the only one.
It doesn't seem like it's a software issue, so there's nothing we can do about it. Just go to the store where you bought it, they will then send it to Samsung to have it repaired. If you still have your warranty it won't even cost anything. They repaired my phone in 5 days and I'm happy to report that it's now fully working again.
The Root of the problem is the fingerprint scanner, i just desactivated it and now it's fix... The fingerprint scanner is kinda broke :/ i Saw that this problem appairs on nexus 5 in 2015...
