Bootloader loop question warranty - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In not an expert at unlocking phones or anything but I think my phone has the bootloader issue. At times it freeze and then either stays frozen for a bit 5 - 10 min or so it then reboots itself, it I'll rest the phone to get it unfrozen. It is doing it multiple times a day and becoming more and more frequent.
Does this mean that I'm getting closer and closer to complete failure, and I need to back up everything in the phone and get replacement.
The warranty from Google is over. Bought October 2015. I may have extended warranty through my credit card. What would all of the experts on this suggest?
I would love any and all help and suggestions.

Well Surprise surprise. Google said they would replace. I'll send it back and set of the phone they send didn't have the same problem. Can I get a wahoo! Happy dance.

If you send it for repair, will your personal data get wiped or do they send it back all intact?

They will probably replace motherboard, so internal storage will not be the same.

I had the same issue, though my phone is dead. I had actually gotten it to where I could ADB the firmware, and it eventually got pretty far into the 4 colored circles until it started bootlooping. Now, it is completely dead.
I had just backed up my photos, but I did lose other app data that I had not backed up recently. Not a whole lot since most apps now backup online these days. But if I get a replacement LG phone, I will always backup on a schedule.
There was an XDA article where LG has a class action against it for the G4 for using solder that doesn't hold up to the heat or heating/cooling cycles. The 5X was added to that lawsuit as well as other phones in April.
This is the first phone that has actually died on me since I dropped a Nokia 8320 into water. I even have my Motorola V600, Razr, BB 8320, and more recent phones that all still work. It amazes me that LG hasn't figured out how to fix this problem since it seems to affect a lot of their models.

I bet they sold a crap ton. I picked up a silver model.
I'm hoping that it's actually new, and without defects.

I just bought a Nexus yesterday form somewhere else for $100 more. But is a legit seller, super fast shipping, and I'm impatient so that 3 week wait would almost be worth $100.
Either way, if this deal works out good for you. I was just paranoid and actually paid a bit more to buy from a reputable seller and have peace of mind.

I saw numerous recent reports from new egg stating that their "new phone" came with the seals broken, Chinese business cards loaded inside, finger prints, and reports of device tampering (setup program didn't launch, went straight to home screen)
Often on sites such as this, they sell at low prices because they acquire a large stock of cheap devices from an over seas distributor, and having some of the phones having been tampered with would lower the price for them significantly.
Let's hope the sale is legit, and maybe just an overstock of silver/white phones......

I've had my Galaxy Nexus for quite a while. Ordered from Daily Steals as well. No problems to report here. Shipping took longer than I would have liked though.
Oh and if it makes a difference to anyone the one I got from them was a yakju.

Is anyone else having issues with the phone they received from this deal?
My phone is stuck in a boot loop, and it's still unrooted and at stock ROM.
Samsung won't provide me support because it's international.

Boot into the bootloader by holding down both volume up and down and power.
Scroll to recovery using the volume keys and select recovery.
When you see the android laying on his back press volume up and power. You might have to do it a few times. Eventually, it will show a menu.
Then clear user data and reboot.
Let me know if that works. You will lose your data but your phone will be functional again.
If that doesn't work we can try another method.

I'm going to try to do this tonight most likely when I get home.
I'm hoping there is a way to access the internal memory without booting the device. Someone recommended adp connecting via the computer, and somehow accessing the internal flash memory.
I'm going to copy/paste a well written explanation that details what I've done, researched, ect. In case anyone else finds this thread and hopefully they'll find it useful..
I'm experiencing a similar issue with my international version unlocked gsm galaxy nexus. My device is still on the stock ROM, not rooted, and no modifications. It had been updated to the latest version of Android available for this device via an ota update. My carrier is Tmobile USA.
I got it a few weeks ago from daily steals.com unsubsidized, and had been experiencing intermittent and random restarts of the device. This started about four days after getting the device, and would happen 3-4 times a week, sometimes multiple times per hour.
I researched online and found that random restarts were a common issue with galaxy nexus devices, especially gsm versions, and that at the time there were no known solutions to fix this issue besides factory resetting. Some users claimed after a hard reset, the device continued to randomly reboot. Others noticed the reboot issue stop upon the reset, but only to manifest itself again over time.
After about a week or two of this intermittent reboot issue, the phone seemed to have stopped restarting, or at least if it was, I wasn't noticing it (i.e. It was in my pocket, or I was sleeping).
Now, after it performing perfectly (as far as I know) for about a week, I thought it might have been a fluke, and that uninstalling some programs and updating others solved the issue, and it was just a software conflict.
Unfortunately for me, I was wrong. This afternoon after unplugging my phone from the wall and turning it on, it begun to boot loop. The previous night, I had let the device's battery completely drain to the point where the phone shut off.
Now it's not even staying on for more than 10 seconds at a time before restarting. If I can manage to click into an app before it restarts, it loads up fine, then it freezes, and I hear a Pop sound from the device and it restarts.
I haven't tried hard resetting the device yet, as I'm hoping there's a way to recover some of my data on the device first.
I did however somehow manage to boot it into safe mode once accidentally, which didn't do much as it still rebooted within ten seconds.
Some possible explanations that I've read across the internet include
1) general Android OS error
2) issue with wifi being turned on
3) possible issue with corrupted Sim card?
I've managed to turn off wifi in the few seconds the device was last on, but it still rebooted.
I removed my Sim card entirely and tried to boot as well, to no avail.
I've contacted Samsung USA, but they don't provide support for my device because it's the international version. They gave me a phone number for the UK Samsung support office, but I cannot dial it, as I believe it might be restricted on my phone plan, and I need to get a calling card.
I sent daily steals an email regarding this issue, but I'm not really expecting much from them.
Have many other people experienced the boot loop issue? I've seen a few incidents so far. Is it software? Hardware related?
Evidently people with custom roms are experiencing this issue as well, meaning it's a hardware issue, a software issue that certain roms share the same code, or a driver issue.
What's sad it's that my HD2 with Android hacked onto it still works fine, even after going through the washing machine full cycle while on with a fully charged battery...
Any thoughts/advice?
Thanks in advance for responding.

Ordered a GN from dailysteals on the 21st. It arrived at my door 8 days later. No issues with the brand new phone.
Ordered mine with the most recent sale. Received in about a week with the factory seal almost broken, but it was hanging on by just a little bit. The unit is brand new and no problems. Only thing was the adapter that dailysteals included for the charger did not fit the Samsung Euro wall charger. Luckily had another one.
Battery life has been fantastic so far. I took it out of the package turned it on and the battery lasted over 12 hours without a charge!
It is not a jakju unfortunately and I don't want to mess around with it. The Google Play store website shows it as a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Nexus too.
I bought my nexus when they had it on March 1st and I have no complaints. The phone came brand new in the box with the factory seal and has worked just fine since the day I got it. Even though I paid a little more then it is in I'm very happy with the purchase.

My Samsung customer service experience

With so many stories of bad customer service from various companies, I thought I'd share a story of great service.
After months of working well, my Verizon Galaxy Nexus starting getting really hot and draining batteries dead. I would go to sleep with 60% charge and wake up 7 hours later with a dead battery that would not even take a charge anymore (tried everything - long term battery/SIM pulls, restoring to stock, different battery, different charger, restoring to stock - nothing solved the problem).
I called Samsung customer support, got a human right away on a Sunday night, and explained the problem and the troubleshooting I had tried. I also explained that I bought the phone used on Craigslist and had neither the original purchase invoice nor any warranty papers.
First, they explained that since I had already gone through the usual steps to troubleshoot, they weren't going to make me jump through any hoops. Second, they checked my IMEI and confirmed the phone was still eligible for warranty repair and that I didn't need any papers for that. They then promptly emailed me a shipping label (they paid for round trip shipping), sent me status updates during the repair process that involved replacing a component in the phone, and had my repaired phone back to me a week later.
Two more things - I sent them a stock ICS phone with a locked bootloader, and they sent my phone back to me repaired with JB (JRO03O build) installed and an unlocked bootloader!
I really couldn't be more pleased with this customer service experience.

since my first mobile i ever had a good opinion on their customer support.
I remember that on my Omnia HD i have broken the audio speakers and they fix it and replace the battery.
I didn't had problems with battery but they change it for nothing!
Glad to hear that Samsung is on the ball as far as customer service and the RMA process is concerned. HTC also went to some impressive lengths to provide an excellent experience with two Evos that I had to send back. Sounds like Samsung went a step further too. I paid for shipping to HTC on both devices.

[Q] Is my A100 bricked?

Can anyone help me? I installed a program called gallery refresh and it didn't seem to do anything. Then my A100 started running very slow, so I rebooted it. Now it won't come on! It goes to the ANDROID screen, and it's animated, but it just stays there forever. One time it started up after about 15 minutes but it went really slow then just froze. Now it won't boot up at all. Just the Android logo. Is my A100 bricked? I still had important information on there. Is there anything that can be done or can I save my data off the internal sd card??
Thank you.

Now it's stuck at the green "acer acer acer acer" screen. It doesn't seem to be doing anything at all.
It's worse now...
I read some instructions on another site to clear the Dalvik cache and I tried it. Now all I get when I turn on the A100 is a black screen. I think it's really bricked now.
The acer logo is back now. I accidently forgot to put the external sd card back in it. It now boots up to the Acer logos, but that's it.

Stock ICS, rooted, CWM recovery.
I went into the CWM settings and told it to do a Backup and on the next blank screen, the android came up with a spherical thing in his tummy that's rolling about. I'm not sure what that means. There is no indication of how long the backup will take, or even where it's putting it, or whether it works at all. I don't know how long it lasts.

Goto a100 general sticky section, there is a dedicated brick thread with some things to try.
Sounds like the good old emmc failure to me though, and if it is, everything is lost, data, motherboard, TOTAL LOSS.

Also, there is a difference between emmc failure or just bricking by say a bad flash.
Suggest reading the wealth of guides here.

Last thing you can try is booting back into recovery and try to adb pull off your internal SD. Not likely to work, but worth a shot. Stop rebooting and wiping it, you'll just kill it faster, wait until after you get what you can off of it.
Then do a factory reset. It'll likely just not finish or reboot or go to Andy on his back again, never know.

That sucks, Acer probably put only a year of warranty on because of their stupid eMMC chip. Thank god we are moving towards eSata now. I'm hopefully buying a Surface Pro.

I think a year is the standard time for devices, though IMO once this defect became known they should have recalled or extended the period, instead they just replace it with the same buggy board and kick it back out to die later for good.

Yes, I was very peeved. Acer wouldn't even fix it for money. They said I could not send it in. Thankfully, my note program was synced to Google. I thought for sure I lost it! I was feeling sick about it all night. Today I bought a Nexus and it synced right back up. I was so relieved. It was by far the most important data on the device. So I'm done with Acer now. Hope my Nexus will be better. Thanks for your concern, guys.
Same here. But I got on with acer chat and got bumped up to level 2.and they are fixing for free and paying for shipping. Out of warranty since March.

Thank you so much for posting your experience with Acer! If I had not seen this, I would not have even tried to get service since my warranty expired Nov 2012! But I guess because my problem was the dead emmc issue, I got bumped to Level 2 support and they authorized my return/repair immediately, including sending a FedEx shipping label to send my tablet to them! (Still waiting on the email with the shipping label, but I expect it shortly.)
So if you have a dead emmc, contact Acer chat service anyway, regardless of warranty! Their Level 2 support hours are 8:00 AM - 4:45 PM CST, Mon-Fri. Just go through support chat and they will transfer you through!

Boot Loop after one month

Here we go again...
Another LG phone having boot loops...
Bought from Best Buy on April 5TH with no protection...
May 6 phone started its random turn off....Have to do a battery pull and rest it for 10 minutes to get it to start up again..
After a min or two , it powers off again..
Yes, I was able to do soft and hard re-sets to no avail...
Just filed a repair request with LG...
Grrrrrrr
Mike
I had the same issue with Sprint LG G5. I bought it in April 13 the from Best Buy. It started to reboot 3 times at first and got real hot before it started rebooting. I took it to Sprint repair center where they suggested to do a factory reset. I told them I can do that. But before I was able to do a factory reset, it finally died. Sprint didn't want to replace the phone since I didn't have insurance. I might have to send it to LG for warranty repair which will take 9 business days. Do not buy the LG G5..
About a week and a half after I got my G5 it overheated really badly and turned itself off and wouldn't restart after attempting to reboot several times. I disconnected it from the power source let it cool off then plugged it in using the OEM power wart that came with the phone. That worked and the phone restarted. A week later the same happened. The phone overheated and attempted to restart several times and this time it seemed hotter than the first time. It turned itself off eventually and I was unable to turn it back on again. Less than three weeks into ownership and the phone was completely unresponsive and dead. I took it into the sprint dealership and they initially refused to replace the phone despite the fact it was under a month before this problem surfaced. They wanted to take the dead phone and have a new one shipped out to me. I told them that was unacceptable and they came up with the compromise that if I signed up for protection now they would backdate it and give me a new replacement phone. I took the deal with the full intention of canceling the protection plan within a month or two after I'm sure this new phone isn't going to be an issue. The new phone has been pretty solid for me so far. It gets warmer than I like but that may just be a product of hypersensitivity to heat after the first phone. That was the first time with any phone that I've ever had where a phone catastrophically failed on me like that. Sprint's response at the their shop was completely unacceptable given the time frame since purchase. I like the phone but I'm not liking how ownership of it is starting out. This was about two weeks ago now and I'm still gunshy with this phone afraid this new one is going to crash on me as well. I do not like that feeling. Thank God I have a backup phone just in case.
Goes to show phones these days are not built the same. I've had the g5 since day 1, not any of the problems I've read I've had since owning the phone. I got mine from a Sprint store also. Only issue I have is the slight lag I have when connecting to anything internet related. I believe that to be something kernel related.

how long did it take to get the phone repaired through LG?
Reboot ahhhhhhhhhhh
My G5 keeps doing a reboot cycle but only on one app (wwe supercard) how can this app cause this issue??

Probably broken flash memory?

So, I was using my n5x with the usual official LineageOS ROM, suddenly when I was using the facebook app, the phone completely freezed.
I long-pressed the power button, an then rebooted the phone.
Surprise: An ugly bootloop with the google logo.
Can't go to the OS, can't go to the recovery. No OS load animation.
Reflashed Android 6. Nothing changed.
Reflashed the latest Android 7, locked bootloader, unlocked, still can't go to recovery or to the android os. No charging animation when plugged into the PC.
1 times of 10, It can barely reach the Android loading animation, for about 2 seconds, then it freezes again and it goes back to the Google logo.
The phone has 1 year of life, should I contact google immediately? I think the internal flash memory died. What do you think about.

If it's still under warranty by all means. Search this forum for bootloop and stuck OTA. This phone is screwed. Also do a Google search for consumerist Nexus 5X and you'll get an idea of the problems users have with this phone.

My N5X did the same thing on Saturday. Tried restoring stock image, unlock/lock bootloader, etc, with no luck. Kept getting stuck in constant bootloop. Called LG, they are aware of the problem with these phones and told to send it back. Its 12 month warranty from date of purchase and/or 15 months from build date (which you can find on your box).
I had to go to www.lgmobilerepair.com and fill out a claim. I shipped mine back yesterday. I hope and expect them to give a full refund on the phone based upon everything I read online about this issue, because apparently there are no parts left over from manufacturing to repair it.

Well I guess we will both see what happens! I would have bought a used Nexus 6P, but many of those are experiencing the same issue, so now I have to decide what I want...probably going to buy a pixel.
this just happened to me. I cant put back to stock or anything. I can get to the boot loader but then black screen. I can load up back to stock, lock and unlock bootloader etc etc but it just boot loops. Im thinking this is hardware. I was reading news on yahoo at the time. I have the extended warrunty so Im calling now. Guess Im going back to the old 5 for now.

I went the pixel after mine died and I've been very happy. The battery life is honestly double what I was getting on my 5x. I averaged around 2:30 SoT, and on the pixel I get over 5 hours every time.

It's 100% hardware. I think the G4 does the same exact thing, LG needs to get their stuff together.

this sucks and for the first time im having a HORRIBLE experiance with google support. We have the extended warrunty and its a 3rd party, NOT EVEN THROUGH GOOGLE like apple care does, and they are being so irritating. Im not paying a deductible for something that was their own fault.
This wouldnt be a huge deal if the SIMS were the same but the 5 used the old larger one and I dont have an adapter. At least I still have google voice for texting or I would be screwed with my job, tenants, and friends. Good to know we bought quality here.
I swear quality is like diabetes and skips a generation. The 5 was so much better.

Have you tried Google multiple times? I kept explaining to the rep how that even though the 12 month warranty was up, the issue was widespread due to faulty parts. The rep finally escalated the issue and came back 15 minutes later saying they would replace it free of charge. I may have gotten lucky, but I'd say try back a few different times.

doing that now, this is rediculous. when her phone breaks apple takes it and gives us a new one.... we would have never paid for extra warranties if it wasnt through google what a ****ing scam. There is a youtube video coming for this. People need to be aware this isnt google warrantying their devices.
Sadly I won't buy a pixel, I will go for a Xiaomi Mi5, I don't like the recent google moves.
