I just resurected my xda IIs from the grave and upon start I come to the Align screen stage. I follow the directions as usual but it just keeps asking for the taps over and over and over. It never passes the same five steps. I've tried different ROMs but they all stop there. Could it be caused by the little internal battery being dead? Is my digitizer crap? Is it martians? Are the forces of evil combining against me? Am I doomed?
I'd like to see this old guy work again.
Thanks for any tips in advance.

hard rest then hold the 2 buttons next to the volume slider only and press the rest button on the bottom using the stylus.this should take you to the 4 color screen with 3 options to be set
1st one leave as NO just press the top button
2nd option as yes by pressing the bottom button then press the top button to goto the 3rd
3rd option change to yes again by pressing the bottom button
then press the message button on the front that looks like an postal letter
this wil reset the options saved kind of like resetting a pc bios to manufacture defaults .
then try again to do the alignment.
I had similar when I flashed pdaviets rom to my blue angel and that resolved it
Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I broke me screen tinkering with it so I'm not able to test your idea.
I started with two LCDs one with a bad digitizer and one with a broken screen. I touch the digitizer off the one a replaced the other so that I had a working screen but then I had the problem listed above. Before I saw your response I thought I might have some dirt or something under the screen causing it to not work so I took it apart but I guess I was just a little too rough this time and cracked the LCD
I'll have to find a new LCD if I plan to resurrect this phone.
Thanks anyways for the help

I´ve tried everything with my XDA III PH20B1 - no camera model -, but I never get the 3 options screen. Just the 4 colors and bottom right the radio version R 1.10.00.
Is there any other way how to make my O2 XDA III boot after the WM6.1 upgrade ( from 2003se) ?
I have the same problem (I have already reply in another thread...), I am still trying to fix it. I suspect from the backup battery, since before I hard reset my SX66 all programs lost their configuration when I turn off and on again my SX66, and when I tried to realign the screen the align cycle repeated forever. Then I tried hard resetting, reflashing to various OS's and I can not pass the initial calibration screen.
Please keep me posted if someone have found the way to solve it.
Thanks !
no need to upgrade or delete anything from bios, this is not a cause of motherboard and software.I removed the motherboard and essembled in a working screen phone.there is no problem all ok,its not a problem with backup battery too. Then i changed working phone motherboard to cant align phone but same as before it dsnt align. Therefore in my investigation its a problem with the touch or screen.
its not a problem with screen cover too.
If any knows the exact solution for align problem screen ,please post it.
eway - press the power/stand by and leave for 15-30secs
then pen reset, press [cam] + [rec] as the 4 colour screen comes on and change 2/3 - as previously stated countless times - press [mail] to reset - this will reboot your new rom.
touch flo user manual is a little allusive
but, soo much too test, soo little time

riya2008r2k - can you plz show some pictures of the internals of a BA ?
I for 1 would be very interested, too see. . .
post a link, please!!
How to bypass Align Screen?
If you have flashed a proper rom/ hard reset your device, there could be some dust on display which won't let the align screen pass. This is a real annoying feature on WM platform. But guess there are always ways to bypass software related issues.
The display can be cleaned by patting a small amount of water on it, and then running the water along with a visiting card on the edges of the screen. This will take off all the dust on the sides, and will let you pass the align screen easily. You can simply wipe the display propely with a glass cleaner.
If this doesn't help then :
When your phone says align screen, connect the phone with computer and get it detected in Active Sync. Next, you could be able to access Tree/Files on your phone. If you are able to do so, then go to startup and delete files directing to Align Screen, if I remb it was "welcome" something. Delete the file, and there won't be any align screen.
or
You can always go for an easier method. Download Code Factory's Remore Screen Alignment (http://www.codefactory.es/en/downloads.asp?id=108). And simply enjoy.
In both of the case, active connection with Active Sync is important. If you are unable to connect your phone, then I believe there ain't any way other than changing the display.
Hope it helps.

O2 Flame
Hello everybody,
I've got a serious problem with my 2 years old O2 Flame: sometimes, when I reboot my pda, I can't realign the screen. And when I can do it, after a while, the left of the screen doesn't respond, or, when I click on it, it's another part of the screen that answers! I flashed the bios already: nothing changed.
@Gerd
Did you try Remote Screen Alignment?
Sonny
wow, that tool is awesome. My digitizer is cracked.

This is for HTC Wizard, but it should work.
The Volume- button has been broken on my Desire HD for ages, but this has never been a major issue until today: I got stuck in a bootloop and I don't know how to get into recovery mode!
Please does anyone have any suggestions either on how to get the vol- key to work or on alternative ways to get to recovery? I tried "adb reboot recovery" in cmd.exe but I get error: device not found.
I am worried my phone is broken and I can't afford a new one, so I would be infinitely grateful if someone could give me a hand!
EDIT: I managed to temporarily fix the issue by pulling off the volume rocker and strongly pushing on the button underneath with a pin, but I would still like to know if there is a way to change the key combo that allows to boot into recovery (as my temporary fix might not work next time).
In short yes, I encountered this during a re flash where it said, menu or back disabled.
There is a way just can't recall what I read on here about an alternate button setup.
Running cmw for recovery + version?

If the physical button on the ribbon cable is still good...take out your battery, remove the s/n etc sticker carefully-all the way, you'll see a ribbon cable under it about 1/4 inches wide leading to the vol button-use a small plastic twezzer or the like and gently lift the cable and volumn button strip up and out of the slot-it is not fixed in place. Now you can put your battery back in and use the vol buttons with your fingernail. Awkward but for a one time fix in an emergency-it will work. When fixed put it all back--maybe once out you will see the real issue with your volumn not working. Maybe the strip got out of it's position some way.. Of course if the physical buttons are damaged or the ribbon cable is ripped, this will not work.
Hello,
I didn' use the vol buttom in my revocery, install 4ext revocery and than you can with a spedified application start in recocery mod (rom manager for exemple).
I have the same problem with the volume keys. I can't boot into recovery without using ROM Manager... Is there another way?

This worked for me when I had a similar issue. Got it repaired though as I was under warranty (had to convince the repair folks that it had stock though )
Im having some trouble with my physical touch buttons. They seem to stop working every now and then. If I bash the phone on my hand a few times they usually start working again. I'm guessing theres a dodgy connection inside somewhere thats causing this. There are no other symptoms though so it's very specific to the touch buttons.
I've opened the phone to have a look if anything looked loose but on the face of it everything seemed fine. However, I wasn't sure which ribbon was for what and couldnt find a diagram anywhere on the net after a quick search. Can anyone help identify what all the connections are for? In the picture I have circled the 5 main connections. So far I have figured the following:
Black circle - touch for screen
yellow circle - metal docking contacts on back of phone
red circle - not sure possibly speaker/touch buttons?
blue circle - not sure possibly speaker/touch button?
green circle - vibration motor?
If you know better please correct me. I think the touch buttons either work off the screen touch responsive connection (black circle) or the red or blue circles but cant quite figure out which.
Thanks
i know the gold colored part on the bottom left of the phone is the digitizer connector, is the rest of the screen working? if not make sure the aforementioned connector is pressed down securely

Everything else is working fine, no issues with screen whatsoever, its just the touch buttons. Thats why im trying to figure which connector does the touch buttons

not sure whats up in that case mate, i have been taking apart my phone for the first time also, i messed up the signal coaxial cable connector on the bottom right and had to install a new part lol
Hardware keys have also been an issue getting disabled for me. I want to get my hardware keys disabled and just use soft keys to have more of a nexus feel but what ever I do, editing the generic.kl file, using apps designed for it, or blowing up Earth nothing works . Any ideas? It just won't stick.

Hi, I think I can help. and i just had way to much fun messing with the .kl files (im a geek...) also, since im also using cm11 hopefully they match up to yours.
ok just to clarify(ive never used a nexus) but I'm guessing you want to disable the "back", "home" and "menu" capacitive keys and you're gonna use on-screen buttons? but you still want the volume and power keys?
At first I was gonna suggest using an xposed module to disable the keys. I already use them to "enhance" those keys(double tap "back" switches to last app, long pressing "back" kills current app, etc.etc.) So for what you want, i disabled my gravity box module and installed the xposed additions module and I was successful in disabling the keys(and if you want, you can even set the double tap as the original key function, so single press no "home", double tap "home"...)
Alternatively, looking at the "keylayout" folder, I think you are changing the wrong file. The generic.kl file is not the default keylayout, it's more of a backup in case the vendor doesn't provide a better one. If you look at the file "touch_dev.kl" you'll see four keys that map to the home back and menu, and they are set as virtual. Sooo, i changed the name of the file to "touch_dev.bak" or whatever you want, and after rebooting, NOW it uses the generic.kl file. As a little nifty extra, inside the generic.kl file it sets "menu" and "back" as wake_dropped, so even if the screen is off, pressing either key will wake up the screen. Tho I imagine that might be too easy to accidentally push them while in your pocket. And since we both use neighborhood hackers kernel, the "swipe screen" is probably a better way to turn on the screen.
ok back to you... (and also, make sure you have your onscreen buttons turned on as it can be awkward to navigate without "home" or "back" function) If you now rename the "generic.kl" file to "generic.bak"(or whatever....) and reboot, NOW it should be the way you want. Dont worry, the file "pmic8xxx_pwrkey.kl" will control the power key and "keypad_8064.kl" will control the volume keys. Worked for me at least.
And I should probably mention to make a copy of the whole "keylayout" folder and to also be careful to not delete "pmicxx_pwrkey.kl" as that cause some issues (you should be able to turn on the screen by swiping, but not sure how it effects the deeper power off, power on functions....)
So yeah hope you or others find this useful (and coherent..) as i just got off work a bit ago and sleepy.... and i tend to use run on sentences and and and and lol

Great info here.
My girlfriend's LGOG just got dropped in the sink. We waited a week and everything is good and powered on but the Power/ScreenLock button must be pressed extremely hard for the phone to register it. Do you have any idea how i can re-route the power button in a way that would still allow powering on with the new button?
Thanks a lot :good:
Btw, the phone is rooted and running beanstalk
EDIT: I changed the function of the volume up key to work as the power/wake and everything seems good while the phone is on but it seems like it wont power the device on from a complete off state. Any ideas on a remedy?

Hi! Erm yeah I tried experimenting a little and now I'm pretty sure the buttons are handled differently at the lower software levels. Changing the keylayouts only affects the current ROM which makes sense since they are included with every rom and also we are able to navigate Recovery with no rom installed. I can't help much (everything I learn is mostly through google and experimenting), but maybe a kernel or firmware dev can help you.
But through experimenting, one minor way to help: When the phone is completely off, if you hold "volume up" while plugging in power cable, it will turn the phone on and load the "Fastboot" screen. You will still have to press the "power" button to boot normaly, but only a "short press" rather than a "long press". So that might help as I imagine getting it to register a long press is a pain.
Also, have you thought bout replacing the switch? its a tiny board and looks easy to get to. I took off my back cover and it doesnt seem like would to much harder to change it out. I looked on ebay and found this ebay dot com/itm/LG-Optimus-G-LS970-Sprint-Power-Button-Replacement-P912-/331129133388?pt=US_Cell_Phone_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item4d18d5994c and also found this ebay dot com/itm/New-Torx-T4-common-size-for-cell-phones-Laptops-More-devices-/181131150696?pt=US_Cell_Phone_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item2a2c420568
(sry it won't let me post outside links lol)If you'd like I can take it apart further and see how hard it is or you can look on youtube for better visual instructions
Ooohh! and as a no cost/irresponsible/last resort kinda option.... If you look at that replacement power switch ebay picture: See those two gold loops coming out the top on either side of the button? Bend a metal wire and touching those two loops will register as a button press and turn the phone on(tested by me woot!)
K, well hope I helped. Lates yo

erm.. I'm not on CM11 anymore so I can't say for sure but isn't there usually a setting in "Display" or "Buttons"? It's normally near the setting that controls the button backlight timer.
I do remember one rom where I was unable to find this setting... so if that is the case then you can try creating an Init.d script with:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness; echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/max_brightness
I'd elaborate more on that but I tried to set it on my current rom and I couldn't get the settings to stick lol but I've used this method before many times on other roms. I like to set the button brightness to 1 while most roms set it to 2 or 3(actually any number above 2 is max brightness) and I don't think I've ever seen a way to change it permanently without using this script at boot.
Oh you could also use expose modules to turn it off but I dont think there is one that does JUST that. I'm pretty sure Gravitybox has the option in there.
Oh and I use Lux and I saw an option in there too will turn off button backlight
So yeah many options.. Id try looking thru Settings tho.

It's real simple!!!
I took the back off (thats what the torx screwdriver is for) then after that unscrewed like 7 silver + screws holding the black plastic shield(?) and then used pliers to remove the little button-board. It not even really secured in there (it uses the two metal hooks to make contact with the mainboard) so you just lift it out (tho I had to use a tiny flat-head screwdriver to kinda press in the hooks in order to reinsert it) but it wasnt too bad. A lot better than paying 60 bux damn!! lol
But keep in mind... It's totally possible that the water damaged something else that could be harder to fix. Or alternatively, it could be easier. Maybe the water just rusted the metal contacts a little bit and just need a lil polishing
And I couldnt find any videos either that show the button-board clearly but this one does show taking off the back and the black plastic thing:

well either way, good luck. If I can find something else to take pictures with then I could try posting some close ups of the board. But its really simple to get to.

K laters yo. Again, hope I helped!

Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness; echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/max_brightness

And I couldnt find any videos either that show the button-board clearly but this one does show taking off the back and the black plastic thing:

haha man! No problem!! The more questions answered the better!
Hello there! A friend of mine gave me her Galaxy S4 mini GT-9195 LaFleur (pink one). She was going to throw it away as she dropped it in half a glass of water. Apparently, some water got into the bottom of the phone and got the Home button stuck. As a result, the phone permanently gets the hardware Home key signal and is almost entirely unuseable. I managed to get past the PIN-code screen by entering the PIN while manually holding the Home button, but that's about it.
I also managed to root it with the intention to install CM which features disabling the hardware keys and using on-screen keys, but I wouldn't be able to get to the menu to disable the keys. I've also found other methods, but they involve editing files on the phone itself, which is impossible because of the Home key being pressed about 3x per second.
So my question is: is there a file I could flash to resolve this issue and disable the home button or disable all hardware keys? Or is there maybe a rom written with these keys being disabled by default, and on-screen keys?
Any other help or suggestions are of course also very welcome!!
Thanks!

None that I know of!
The key is probably malfunctioning because there is still moisture in there and it's shorting the switch out (or possibly it's now what is the salts etc left after the water evaporate). In first case put it in an airtight container with with the battery out & cover off & a lot of rice and leave for a week or two. If that doesn't work (better option I think) take the cover off and remove the back panel, take out the power board PCB and clean the contacts of the switch and ensure there is no moisture anywhere in the phone e.g. under chips etc. (also check other switches etc water may have condensed in other areas) (you can buy little phone tool set on ebay etc cheaply). Should then work normally ........:fingers-crossed:......

Thanks, but I've been able to solve it differently. The phone was kept in a airtight box with rice and anti-moisture silica for a few months, but the problem continued.
I noticed that after being locked a few times, SOMETIMES I was able to hold the home button, and then access the menus. I then managed to root it, add soft keys in build.prop and disable the home button in the generic.kl file in \system\usr\keylayout...
Problem solved! It's a functional phone again, without a hardware home button.

Oh right, so you managed to get in to root it etc. :good:
(yes rice doesn't always work as moisture can stay trapped in areas like the buttons contact pads underneath, I think. Even if dried out contaminates can remain that can short switch)
