Loose/Rattly buttons - Lenovo P2 Questions & Answers

Just received my P2, i noticed the power and volume buttons is more rattly and loose than i am used to.
You can hear them when you shake your phone slightly.
Anyone else who have the same thing?

While mine have a little give they don't rattle when moved.. maybe you have recieved a faulty piece?
Sent from my Lenovo P2a42 using Tapatalk

Yea, starting to think so.
The keys move quite a bit inside the holes, so i probably will return this unit.
A quick search reveals that someone else have had the same issue posted at the lenovo forum, and the person was supposedly told in the store that all the units were like that

I think they are all like that I bought mine last week and my buttons are rattling too. It did bother me at first but I'm getting used to it

I have two P2's. Both have somewhat lose buttons the other a bit more than the other. It does not bother me that much though. I can only hear it mostly when I put it down. Not in everyday use while holding it.

Volume Rocker or Power button WOBBLY

I have the white one
My volume rocker is wobbly and whenever my phone vibrates it has that sharp sound vibrating as well
As if theres a piece of plastic that is bouncing around inside the phone
But of course its just the volume rocker that is wobbling like mad whenever the phone vibrates
Anyone have this?
If I hold my finger to the volume rocker it doesnt make that nasty sound
I go into settings and I tap "vibration intensity option" and I tried selecting different vibration levels and I can definitely hear the difference
With the wobbly volume rocker
Anyone else?
The fascinate had this as well. It caused allot of concern when it was first released. They all held up like champs though. I think they are actually designed this way for longevity. I've had many Samsung phones, and never had any problems with their buttons. Try not to worry about it unless it starts to cause problems. Mine feel lose just like how you describe yours.
I would take it back for exchange if you still can. I just bought a tablet with the same problem and I am going to exchange it. For the money, that's not something you should have to deal with. My s3 definitely does not have the same problem.
Weirdly my S2 and S3 both have the sane issue. It has stopped bugging me though.

I have the exact same problem, went back to the store the day after, the rep said it isn't wobbly... and told me to test the demo ones and the demo devices also had the same volume rocker problem.
Now that I have it in a case, the weird sharp plastic moving up and down during vibrate is gone but it still bothers me to know that it's wobbly.
I tried returning it the guy said it's fine so I just lived with it.. my powerbutton isn't like this at all tho, very sturdy.
I've had three Galaxy S IIIs so far...
The power button was very loose/wobbly. AT&T replaced it for me.
The screen was separated from the bezel. They gave me a hard time about replacing this, saying that it's against policy to replace a phone multiple times unless it has a serious issue, but eventually replaced it. The power button was solid on this one.
This one has a looser power button than the first. It does not stick out as far as it did on either of the other two, and does not click when pressed. I also have to press it in just the right spot in order to get it to register. The AT&T store said that the button seemed to be working and they can't keep replacing it for "cosmetic issues."
On the one hand the button does work 90% of the time, it's just a little finicky. On the other hand, I don't expect this poor quality out of a premium device. I'm a little conflicted as to whether I should live with it our escalate to AT&T customer service.

I had a similar issue with Apple recently. My iPad 3's buttons were scratched and looked like someone tried to chew on it (mind you this is a replacement for a faulty iOS iPad 3 I had). Fortunately, Apple replaced it right away for its cosmetic issues.
My power button seems to have a similar issue to yours, in terms of not being as sturdy as the volume rockers, however it's bearable and hardly noticeable.
Given that I've heard so few horror stories about Android phones as opposed to iPhones, a not-so-sturdy power button isn't the end of the world!
However your provider or Samsung at the very least shouldn't be refusing to give out replacements for such issues...
The power button and the home button? Were really wobbly on my first gs3 (white) I exchanged it when the red one came out, this one I might say is perfect from cosmetic issues.

Well, the rep at the AT&T store said that her GS3 was like that as well, and even though I showed her that it was not like that on the floor model she insisted it was normal variation. She did offer to waive the restocking fee on a different phone if I was unhappy with it. I considered taking her up on it and going with the One X but the smaller, built-in battery and no removable storage just kills it. I'd say as long as the button keeps working I'm fine with it as-is. It actually makes it harder to accidentally turn on the phone, to be fair.

Return it then buy it from Best buy. I went through 3 models before I found one with no loose buttons. If you do a search you will see that I made the first thread about this.

Mine feels a bit loose too. Only very slightly when holding the phone and accidentally touching it, but it's noticeable.
Thanks for replies. I'm thinking it's faulty mine is pretty loose it's probably not going to fall off but just don't like all the wiggling.

Mine has just the slightest wiggle side to side - but doesn't feel "faulty" per se. I can only even tell it wiggles by looking at it and pushing it to a side, otherwise I'd of never noticed.
mine is very very loose, annoyingly so
looks like it's falling out and makes a rattling noise when touched
receiving a replacement soon hopefully wont have the same fault
Not a fault, as someone mentioned earlier the volume rocker is made of metal like the body and so cannot have such a snug fit as if it were plastic. So learn to live with it guys!

Why is that then? metal can be machined to very high tolernces, much tighter than plastic.

It's for this reason that there is a little play I believe. If I think about other machined parts such as on my Aprilia motorcycle there will be some kind of rubber bushing or shims to prevent play between the two machined parts. But with plastic such as my One X volume rocker, at first there was no play at all but after some time that changed and now it feels just as loose or wobbly as my new M8. I have the gel case on now so don't worry so much about the wobbly volume rocker :good:

no really, it's a fault
if you tilt my handset it hangs out, it started doing it after using it for a while, feels like a spring came off/broke etc, looks like it's hanging on by a thread
it is not at all normal, there's no way it's meant to be like that

No doubt about it mate, a little play is acceptable but hanging out is definitely a fault. Hope you get it sorted.
new one has been delivered and it's a lot better, still slightly loose but not hanging out
actually now it's gone the same, it's ok with a case but without it feels awful
I'll keep this one but if it stops working I'll send it back
I am paying less than I was before upgrading so I can deal with it but anyone buying this sim free for a large amount of cash, would be disappointed with the quality of the volume rocker
Can someone with a ticket that looks like it's about to fall off, post a picture of it, I'm interested in hire it looks?

im interested in this as well.
I bought my phone last night. noticed it this morning that the volume rocker is a bit loose. it doesn't hang out or anything but it can move up and down (towards the front screen and back).
most annoying thing is when moving the phone around, you can hear the loose volume rocker.
=(
Confirmed this is definitely an issue.
Bought one today and it was quite loose. Went back to the store and checked the display model and it was the same.
Gent there opened up a new one and it was less loose so I took it for the moment but it seems to be getting more loose as I use it. Probably going to return again, but how many times before I get one that is correct and how do I know it will not develop the looseness...
edit: If you shake with any force it it actually rattles!
I've had the free case on it for most of the day and I haven't noticed the loose rocker
anyone planning to use a case will be fine, without one it would annoy me massively, especially the noise when tilting the phone..I don't think it's going to actually fall out though
my handsets are both from o2, both same issue so I don't see much point in sending it back again, I will contact them and see if they have had many returned
I seriously doubt it's meant to be this loose
---------- Post added at 04:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:57 AM ----------
this review actually mentions it rattling around horribly..perhaps this is why they give you a case in the box..would be good to know for sure to save people replacing the phone over and over again
The one sore point in the build quality is with the thin volume rocker, which rattles around horribly. It’s a particular shame seeing as the rocker can also double up as the camera shutter.

Did you have to ship back first to get a replacement? Mine is super flimsy, but I'm lazy to have to swap back to a micro sim if I have to ship back first. I can hear the key move when I move the phone, even makes a noise when the phone vibrates.

[Q] Vibrate making strange clicking sound?

When pressing keys especially I have recently noticed a weird clicking noise coming from the top of the phone. I am really getting worried about this phone because I pretty much get all OCD when it comes to tech especially mobile phones. This is supposed to be the best phone of 2014 yet both my power and volume rockers are quite loose and this issue with the vibration noise now ... It would be reassuring to know that other people have this same thing and its not just a faulty device... Also just 1 more thing, I have my m8 in a hard protective case and I dropped it onto cement 1m (3ft) below me.. no external damage at all but I'm wondering whether there could be internal damage? Thanks for any replies :good:

The vibrator is held in place in the housing with the help of adhesive. The shock must've dislodged the vibrator, causing the clicking sounds.. I'd say get it replaced/repaired asap, before the vibrator hits anything and gets damaged. I might be wrong, but you're gonna have to send it in anyways so
Is it worth return?
Are you sure it's worth returning ? It's nothing major, I can only hear it when there is complete silence in the room. The phone was in a case and it didn't fall far so I don't think that would be the reason but still. If I did want to return it though, how long would that take ? I'm in Australia btw and bought it online.
Sure?

I'm not sure about your return policy, but why not return it? If you can now, and somewhere down the line, if it gets worse, and if you don't have the option to return then, you'll be kicking yourself..

It's not broken, it's a feature. Really.
Look in Settings -> Sounds -> System. Untick "Touch Sounds". That should fix it.

Button Rattling

So, as the title says, the buttons on my phone are rattling. They're also very very loose and the power button feels like it could fall out. My brothers M8 doesn't have this, neither any I've seen at stores. Haven't exchanged because i only took the case off past the 14day return/exchange period. Anyone else have any experiences with this? How have they held up? Anyone try to replace it? I'm worried because I;'m rooted/s-off/they might charge me. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do? Thanks!

My volume rockers rattle a lot and it bothers the hell out of me, but not enough to replace it. They've been like that for at least 3 or 4 months and I haven't had any problems with them besides the annoying rattling

Mine moves back and forth, and it's also uneven. The real bother for me is the power button. It's practically sunken in, i can push one side down past the casing, when I press it it feels extremely loose. Right now the power button doesn't seem enough to replace it, but what if a few months later it get worse or fall out?

Dammit. Last thing I want to deal with right now. Why couldn't it have just been solid like yours? All the anticipation and ugh. Not to go all emo but it makes me disappointed big time.
I guess in the am with my coffee I'll fire up this support feature and see how it goes. Subscribe to the thread as I'll be updating it late. Feel free to chime in with your experience. Need to know if anyone else has this issue.
Thank you all.

I just received mine, I have 2 devices, a regular and an XL. If i shake them very fast in a top to bottom direction I get a tiny bit of rattling out of both of them from the buttons. Minor issue but solid would be nice.
So, at first I thought I had the same issue as you-- but the rattling persists even while holding the volume rocker and power button.
Are you 100% positive yours is the volume rocker?

Since you mention it...yes. Power button loose too. Both of them in fact.
I already had a support chat and they insisted on sending me a new device. Now we'll see how long it takes to get here.
The device is great otherwise. I would've held onto it for a while because it's def not a deal breaker. I really just wanted to reach out to support and the issue documented on their end at the very least.
I have the same issue with my Pixel XL volume rocker, its quite loose and rattles when shaking phone.
But also can hear something is loose inside the phone, just tapping with finger on the upper side of the screen while holding the vol rocker clearly can hear rattling from inside.
Also the power button press click is quite loud same with vol rocker.
Also screen tapping feels wired a bit, like theres empty space under it (like tapping the empty box)

I know there is already a dedicated thread for issues and I post it in their. But also stay right here that I had a major freeze and had to reboot the phone this morning. That's a little frustrating.
Apparently the rmas are going out overnight so I should have a replacement device soon. Dying to see if my replacement has the same problem. Pretty interesting you have all these people waiting weeks for shipping but I could be on my second device by the weekend already.

Thanks for chiming in. I must be out of my mind. I went to Verizon store that had a pixel XL in stock. Checked it out and it's the same as mine. Volume button loose. Rattles when I shake the phone ever-so-slightly. What are the odds that there was another device like that?

Didn't notice a rattle or looseness, but if I take my Pixel XL and do a jerky fanning motion it does sound like the power button or volume buttons are rattling. In normal use I do not hear any rattling and they don't feel overly loose. This was not the case on my N5. Those buttons rattled with just normal use (gently turning the phone over). They did address the problem on the N5 on later builds ( http://www.droid-life.com/2013/12/13/slight-hardware-tweaks-already-being-made-to-the-nexus-5/ )
I have two Pixel XL's, the buttons are very slightly loose in an an up and down motion parallel to the phone's screen. Nothing of major concern. If I shake the phone vigorously, I hear a bit of a rattle. But I'm really shaking it. Not something you would hear on a day-to-day basis.
The buttons feel very steady and clicky when pressing.
