When pressing keys especially I have recently noticed a weird clicking noise coming from the top of the phone. I am really getting worried about this phone because I pretty much get all OCD when it comes to tech especially mobile phones. This is supposed to be the best phone of 2014 yet both my power and volume rockers are quite loose and this issue with the vibration noise now ... It would be reassuring to know that other people have this same thing and its not just a faulty device... Also just 1 more thing, I have my m8 in a hard protective case and I dropped it onto cement 1m (3ft) below me.. no external damage at all but I'm wondering whether there could be internal damage? Thanks for any replies :good:

The vibrator is held in place in the housing with the help of adhesive. The shock must've dislodged the vibrator, causing the clicking sounds.. I'd say get it replaced/repaired asap, before the vibrator hits anything and gets damaged. I might be wrong, but you're gonna have to send it in anyways so
Is it worth return?
Are you sure it's worth returning ? It's nothing major, I can only hear it when there is complete silence in the room. The phone was in a case and it didn't fall far so I don't think that would be the reason but still. If I did want to return it though, how long would that take ? I'm in Australia btw and bought it online.
Sure?

I'm not sure about your return policy, but why not return it? If you can now, and somewhere down the line, if it gets worse, and if you don't have the option to return then, you'll be kicking yourself..
same here !!

i have the same issue , its as if there is something loose inside the phone body which crackles whenever the phone vibrates :/
It's not broken, it's a feature. Really.
Look in Settings -> Sounds -> System. Untick "Touch Sounds". That should fix it.

Hi all,
I have had my DHD for about 2 weeks now and I have just noticed that if I set it down on a hard surface it does make a bit of a plastic-y rattling sound. If I shake the phone it also rattles, but hardly near as much, it is barely audible. Is this something to be concerned about? If it's not going to affect the phone in the long run I would rather just keep it with the rattle but I would like to be sure before doing so. So is this going to cause problems in the long run or is it just a benign niggle?
Thanks in advance
They all do this, and I know what you mean. Nothing to be worried about, I've heard most handheld devices do this, let alone just this phone. The shaking when you put the phone down on the table i most likely just the phone shaking very quickly as you put it down, just because the camera protrudes.

Mine used to, But after dropping it on concrete a few times it doesn't lol
It would be nice if that were it but I get the same noise from tapping on the back, I think it could be something inside the camera that's a bit loose when not being used, it seems to work fine though,so I guess its not a huge issue, just a slight annoywnce.
How are you tapping it? Basically, there is a tiny rattle there, but it isn't prominent. I'd say it's the camera too, but definitely a non-issue.

It's just a tap below the camera with the flat of my finger, it is quite noticeable but only in a very quiet room. I guess I've got two years on the warranty anyway I'll try not to worry
well ive noticed since ive gotten my galaxy nexus and ive just ignored it however im not beginning to think i shouldn't and was wondering how common this is.
basically when the motor clicks in to vibrate the phone it sounds like something is loose in side causing a rattling sound with every vibration does anyone else have this ?, not sure if i should send it back to handtec or just try and get it repaired via samsung australia somehow cause they sell the galaxy nexus here now to.
I have the same thing, I think it's just a loud vibrate.

ive noticed tho if you squeeze the sides of the phone near the bottom then make the vibrate happen the noise isnt there, i also noticed under the battery cover there are some philips head screws i might try to tighten them maybe its a little loose however if this ends up being really common ill just live with it
I tried to tighten the screws...those little bastards are TIGHT! I contemplated taking her apart and checking the motor out. It does annoy me but I suppose I can live with it instead of voiding a $700 warranty.

There is no void sticker on the casing. Unless you tell them, the warranty is not void. I'm not responsible if it does though

A little back story: me and my friend bough One X-es not long ago, and while i generally LOVE the phone,
both mine device and my friends (we bought it on same carrier, same store, few days difference) it had this really
uncool creaking all around when you touch the phone on certain areas (ours were specialy creaky at the bottom)
This is what people call "bad builds", "manufacturing fault" etc. It was kinda sad for device of this quality, with unibody design.
Now, i was already dealing with the fact that i have creaky one, and as much as i dident like it, i couldent be sure that replacament
wont be the same, and both of us just choose to live with it. Until yesturday. So what happends was, I dropped my phone from my table.
Pretty bad. I was already pale-faced of fear that i broke the screen, but what actually happend is that screen just popped out a bit.. you know,
like bottom part was little raised up and as i know this is actually way to open OneX i just popped it back in place and nice "click" was heard.
and quess what? The creaking was gone, completely.device never felt more solid, and i cant even get it to creak now no mather how hard i press!
Seems like certain builds are just not properly assambled, and this fall obviously just put everything back in place!
So right away i call my friend and tell him what happend, and how happy i am. What he did was he tryed to reproduce the "problem" by trying
to open up the phone like in here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpBAupp8kKc . It was hard to do at the beggining but he menaged to
get it pop up a bit after some trying. he said while he was doing it phone creaked and screamed like crazy, but the moment he popped back
everything in place, ALL of the creaking instantly stopped, like in my case!
TL;DR So my conclusion. Seems like some series of builds are just like that out-of-the-box, and looks like something is not properly alligned in factory itself. Poping screen out a few milimeters and then back in place seems to fix this creaking problem.
Two important things to mention:
1. Do not pop the screen out all the way by any means i think it can void your warranty.
2. I read some phones are glued in place and you wont be able to open it anyway, so dont try to open it too hard.
if you try to pop it out just a little like we did, without actually completely opening up device there is no
way you will void your warranty, so this is safe! So, if you have creaky build-try it out, you got nothing to
lose, except your creaking problem.
I have a slight creaking sound.. but everywhere on the screen... Only if I press the screen at a certain angle the sound comes... I tried popping the casing again but the sounds still there
Not a big deal though....
Fixed my creaky upper left corner...THANKS!

Mine feels a bit loose too. Only very slightly when holding the phone and accidentally touching it, but it's noticeable.
Thanks for replies. I'm thinking it's faulty mine is pretty loose it's probably not going to fall off but just don't like all the wiggling.

Mine has just the slightest wiggle side to side - but doesn't feel "faulty" per se. I can only even tell it wiggles by looking at it and pushing it to a side, otherwise I'd of never noticed.
mine is very very loose, annoyingly so
looks like it's falling out and makes a rattling noise when touched
receiving a replacement soon hopefully wont have the same fault
Not a fault, as someone mentioned earlier the volume rocker is made of metal like the body and so cannot have such a snug fit as if it were plastic. So learn to live with it guys!

Why is that then? metal can be machined to very high tolernces, much tighter than plastic.

It's for this reason that there is a little play I believe. If I think about other machined parts such as on my Aprilia motorcycle there will be some kind of rubber bushing or shims to prevent play between the two machined parts. But with plastic such as my One X volume rocker, at first there was no play at all but after some time that changed and now it feels just as loose or wobbly as my new M8. I have the gel case on now so don't worry so much about the wobbly volume rocker :good:

no really, it's a fault
if you tilt my handset it hangs out, it started doing it after using it for a while, feels like a spring came off/broke etc, looks like it's hanging on by a thread
it is not at all normal, there's no way it's meant to be like that

No doubt about it mate, a little play is acceptable but hanging out is definitely a fault. Hope you get it sorted.
new one has been delivered and it's a lot better, still slightly loose but not hanging out
actually now it's gone the same, it's ok with a case but without it feels awful
I'll keep this one but if it stops working I'll send it back
I am paying less than I was before upgrading so I can deal with it but anyone buying this sim free for a large amount of cash, would be disappointed with the quality of the volume rocker
Can someone with a ticket that looks like it's about to fall off, post a picture of it, I'm interested in hire it looks?

im interested in this as well.
I bought my phone last night. noticed it this morning that the volume rocker is a bit loose. it doesn't hang out or anything but it can move up and down (towards the front screen and back).
most annoying thing is when moving the phone around, you can hear the loose volume rocker.
=(
Confirmed this is definitely an issue.
Bought one today and it was quite loose. Went back to the store and checked the display model and it was the same.
Gent there opened up a new one and it was less loose so I took it for the moment but it seems to be getting more loose as I use it. Probably going to return again, but how many times before I get one that is correct and how do I know it will not develop the looseness...
edit: If you shake with any force it it actually rattles!
I've had the free case on it for most of the day and I haven't noticed the loose rocker
anyone planning to use a case will be fine, without one it would annoy me massively, especially the noise when tilting the phone..I don't think it's going to actually fall out though
my handsets are both from o2, both same issue so I don't see much point in sending it back again, I will contact them and see if they have had many returned
I seriously doubt it's meant to be this loose
---------- Post added at 04:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:57 AM ----------
this review actually mentions it rattling around horribly..perhaps this is why they give you a case in the box..would be good to know for sure to save people replacing the phone over and over again
The one sore point in the build quality is with the thin volume rocker, which rattles around horribly. It’s a particular shame seeing as the rocker can also double up as the camera shutter.

Did you have to ship back first to get a replacement? Mine is super flimsy, but I'm lazy to have to swap back to a micro sim if I have to ship back first. I can hear the key move when I move the phone, even makes a noise when the phone vibrates.
So, as the title says, the buttons on my phone are rattling. They're also very very loose and the power button feels like it could fall out. My brothers M8 doesn't have this, neither any I've seen at stores. Haven't exchanged because i only took the case off past the 14day return/exchange period. Anyone else have any experiences with this? How have they held up? Anyone try to replace it? I'm worried because I;'m rooted/s-off/they might charge me. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do? Thanks!

My volume rockers rattle a lot and it bothers the hell out of me, but not enough to replace it. They've been like that for at least 3 or 4 months and I haven't had any problems with them besides the annoying rattling

Mine moves back and forth, and it's also uneven. The real bother for me is the power button. It's practically sunken in, i can push one side down past the casing, when I press it it feels extremely loose. Right now the power button doesn't seem enough to replace it, but what if a few months later it get worse or fall out?
