How to repair the charging port on a boost S3 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

After all these years the charging port is acting up. I still carry Insurance on since I bought it New. Is there anyway to repair myself of should I turn it in For repair? given the age they may substitute with something else just not sure.

Does Sprint charge to fix usb issue?

My phone charges but it keeps coming up in car mode. I am not sure how to fix it. It does the same thing with different roms. I think I need to unroot and take it to sprint. Do they charge if I have had my Evo less than a year?
If you have insurance then they should replace it without cost since it's not user damage. If you don't have insurance, they might replace it or they may tell you to go through HTC, which I hear is a pain. Going through HTC will cost some money (around $40 if I remember correctly), and you'll be out of a phone for a while.

Worst case scenerio is that sprint will charge you a flat rate fee of $35 if you don't have insurance (TEP). This is of course if the port malfunction is not a result of physical damage. BTW this month is open enrollment for TEP so if you don't have it and your on here....... get it.
if you don't have insurance, the only way to get it fixed is if you are still under the one year warranty from the date you bought the phone. If you have insurance, they should either fix it for free, or charge you 35 dollars, depending on how bad the damage is.

intermittent usb port problem. warranty or insurance?

Backstory: Two month old vzw gnex. I noticed a few days ago I was having a problem with my port. What happens is: if the slightest amount of pressure is applied to the charging cord the phone stops charging.Which makes using the phone while plugged in a hassle. I thought my defender case was to blame since it does **** the cord to the side. Took it off, problem still there. Tried another usb cable, same thing. Called vzw and explained to them, minus the defender case situation. They offered me two options. Option one is warranty, but if samsung finds any reason for it to be my fault I'll get charged $300. Option two is asurion insurance for $100 deductible. Either way I get a refurb. I looked in the port as instructed and everything looks normal.
The queston: Did the defener case cause this? Should I take the chance on the warranty? Or take a chance on the asurion referb?

[Q] Replacing phone with hardware issues - questions about Samsung's warranty

I bought a Galaxy Nexus from Wind Mobile(Canada) a couple of months ago and now some problems have arisen. When I got my phone I unlocked and rooted my phone, flashed AOKP 6 on it and that worked perfectly until now.
About a week ago the phone started to run extremely hot and the battery drained extremely fast and would run out when the phone was turned off. I got that replaced because I thought it was just a dead battery. The new one wouldn't charge half of the time and the other half extremely slowly (about 10% in 2 hours.) I tried multiple sockets, wires, and wall charging adapters which all didn't help so I decided that it wasn't a battery problem.
I thought that it could be the software so I returned my phone to the stock rom. That didn't change anything. At this point I'm certain that it's the hardware and I didn't damage it in any way physically or from modding it, it was a manufacturer fault. So I was setting up my phone to get ready for a return but it stopped working entirely before I could unroot and lock the phone. The battery has been drained dead and the phone doesn't charge via USB or AC.
Now I'm wondering whether I should go replace my battery again, which I can do for free, to give me the extra juice I need to unroot and lock it and send it to Samsung? Or should I just send it in as is, not working at all unless a charged battery is in there. The warranty says "(g) defects or damage resulting from improper testing, operation, maintenance, installation, service, or adjustment not furnished or approved by SAMSUNG" in the section of "What is Not Covered" by the warranty. Does this keep me in the clear for modifying my phone? The defect was not caused by the custom rom, root or the unlock.
Warranty: I can't link right now I need to make some posts.
The warranty was for the verizon gnex but I couldn't find the warranty this in depth for the one I have(the i9250 I believe)
The first thing the tech will do is flash a stock rom , he wont sit there playing with aokp making notes in your file. He probably does 300 phones a day, drops them on a dock, flashes them and runs a scanner and repeats. Now if it wont work on ac power, thats another story and if there water damage tags show no fluid exposure, he probably just throws it in a recycle bin and mails you a different refurb.
Anyone working at a repair centre can to make any corrections?

i would revert to stock and send
it into Wind and shoe them my problem. i did it last month with my G2x that had a shot charging port. i charged my battery with a universal charger and flashed the stock Wind rom and sent it in rooted. they may you pay a deposit of $80 if the manufacturer determines it's a hardware issue u get your deposit back if not the cost of the repair will be deducted from it if it is more they will call to confirm if you are willing to pay the extra if not the cost of shipping will be deducted. and if u want a loaner u will pay $10

Alright I brought it in to Wind and it's now being sent over to Samsung. Thanks for the reassuring replies

[Q] Battery Disconnected prompt coming up when plugged into charger.

Hello all, I have a friend who's wife's note 2 has have had rough life. Cracked screen cause of drops, minimal H2o damage, but despite all the miss-fortune her phone still works. It still makes and receives phone calls and texts, camera works, but the only problem now is that when connected to the charger a prompt comes up reading that the Battery is disconnected. We have swapped out each others batteries to see if that was the problem and it was not. Also this is a brand new battery my friend has just purchased. We did a factory reset thinking it might be a software issue, but to no avail. Any one else heard or seen this problem any where else? He is taking it into sprint today but that might be costly...sooo any ideas guys? Thank you.

I have. Sounds like the port is going out or the usb cable is going bad. Swap out the cable first. Also look inside the port. Do you see any of the legs sticking up or anything.

Yes I tried my usb today and no I could not see any prongs sticking up or anything. it looked like mine when I compared.

Well the only thing left I can think of is corrosion on the port. If sprint says there is water damage and refuses to replace unless you go to asurion, you should just buy a new port and solder it on yourself. Unless you dont have access to a soldering gun. Then idk.

Well thanks for trying to help us out man. He did ask about the insurance but apparently with the note 2 it is 200.00$ to replace the phone and not the normal 100 dollar fee for a smart phone. I just don't get why(well I do, its a money thing) it has gone from 50.00 bucks with insurance to replace a phone to 100.00 to replace smart phone to 200 for the note 2. I thought we were all under the impression that the note 2 is a smart phone and not a super smart phone. fudging ridiculous yanno. I mean it is a super smart phone but they shouldn't jack up our prices for it.

Anyone know how much to replace the motherboard on Bell S3

Hi,
My phone cannot turn on anymore and i got it more than a year from Bell Canada. I went to a place who can repair the phone and found out the motherboard was burn because of some water around the usb port. (Not sure why...because no water go in that i can aware of)
But they cannot fix the motherboard for me and i would like to know anybody know how much samsung will charge for the whole repair?
If expensive, i think i will go to get a new phone instead.
Thank you
