Crazy long story short... my phone is not allowing audio input from any source.
I first noticed it with voice control (OK Google), where my phone wasn't responding.
Then I tried manually clicking on the microphone to manually trigger it to listen... and nothing.
Then I tried making a phone call... and the person on the other side cannot hear me. I feel like I'm getting somewhere... some kind of microphone problem.
I tried the same via speakerphone (which may or may not use different microphones in the phone)... but I still cannot be heard.
Then I tried plugging in an external microphone (2 actually). Both times, I got a message on my phone indicating it was using an "external audio source" to record input... except that my audio is still not being recognized. I tested this with the built-in voice recorder on the phone.
Then I bit the bullet and did a full factory reset, thinking maybe a rogue app broke something, I dunno. Well, one full reset later... I'm in the same boat. I still cannot get the phone to accept any audio from the built-in microphone or external mic.
I've tried cleaning out the mic (even though that obviously isn't the problem because the external mic exhibits the same problem). I'm hesitant to take it to Sprint, because I can't believe it would be a hardware problem, what with mulitple audio input sources not working.
Anyone have any suggestions? I'm willing to try anything at this point. Thanks.

Was on EH06 leak, stock rooted. Use car dock, bluetooth, and headphones often during an average day. At some point yesterday, my phone's audio became broken. I've since Odin'ed back to EC05, and its still the same issue. Most of these symptoms lead me to believe the phone always thinks there are headphones plugged in. BTW, I have tried plugging in several different headphones. Certainly seems like a hardware problem, so I'll try Sprint without insurance to see what they'll do. Appreciate any input.
What does work:
+When I get a call, the phone actually rings out of its speaker.
+Volume up key beeps out of speaker
+All audio seems to work with 3.5mm headphones connected
What doesn't work:
-In-call, speaker-call button is grayed out, unavailable
-No in-call audio. They can't hear me, I can't hear them.
-Same problem in-call for bluetooth.
-Music won't play through speaker.
-Music won't play while in car dock.
-Changing ringtones in settings doesn't play the ringtone I select (through speaker)
-When I plug 3.5mm headphones in, I'm sometimes prompted for voice search, and sometimes it automatically begins dialing a recent call.
Take it to a store
I would suggest taking it to a store and show them while being kind. Don't do telephone support because they will probably say "No insurance, no dice." If you catch the tech on their good side I'm sure they will help you out. It may be as simple as a busted contact in the jack. My friend's iPod had a problem like that.
Hi chaps,
Wierd issue. Headphones are not detected when plugged into my phone unless I do a reboot. Similarly, when I unplug the headphones they are not 'un-detected' until a reboot.
However, using an app called toggleheadset I can force audio through to my headphones. This is a bit of a pain because 1) I have to remember to do it and 2) I lose Beats functionality.
I have tried using different headphones but this has no effect.
Any ideas as to why the headphone state is only detected at boot?
I have tried different Kernel/ROM combinations but to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
also, if anyone can provide me with some pictures of their headphone port so I can compare it to mine that would be great.
Hi,
I have the exact same issue with my HOX since yesterday.
At first I thought the ROM had something to do with the issue, but after flashing several other ROMs, it still wasn't solved. (I haven't flashed back to stock btw)
"toggleheadset" works ok, but I can't use the microphone that way; I can't use my headphones to make calls anymore.
Also when answering phonecalls, sometimes my headphones are still toggled on, so I can't hear the other end. And the worst thing is: when I try to toggle the headphones off during the call, my screen dimms and I struggle to activate the widget. THATS a pain in the ass.
Does anyone know if the issue is software/hardware related? And the best way to solve this?
I'm wondering if this issue affects bluetooth headsets. If it doesn't, I'll consider buying one.
Old thread, but me the same... But my HOX survived waterboarding... I felt into the wather while sailing. Changed battery and screen, but now I see i have one more problem to solve. If any one have solution - please write. But for now I'll try to fix by my own
Cleaning Hole
Try to clean the hole where the Headphones are put in...
If its clean, try to reinstall the rom.
Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone has a suggestion for me wrt to audio problems with my wife's Sprint Galaxy S3.
On a fully stock up to date S3, about 3 days ago all sound stopped working, this includes alarms, answer calls, key press sounds, playing music. However after a reboot, it would start working again for 6 hours or so, and then quit again. I assumed this was a software issue of some sort. I have an older rooted phone which I love and have had for years, I suggested that we finally root her S3, so she could get all those benefits plus fix whatever little software problem this was.
The rooting process when fine, and the phone now has CWM and CM 10.1.2 (Android 4.2.2). However the audio issue is still there and in fact a reboot no longer fixes the issue.
I have tried pluggin in the ear buds w/ built in mic, and those too fail to work. I also have paired various bluetooh devices like mini boom boxes etc.. they all pair fine however there is no audio output from them. No audio in the dial pad when hitting the numbers. When trying to play music the DSP Manager will crash, and then the music app crashes (tried Apollo and Google music). If I go to the sound recorder and hit record, it pops up with "Internal application error.".
So it seems all audio (speaker, mic, bluetooth, and headset) is broken which again makes me think software, but even after rooting and installing a new rom like Cyanogenmod the issue is here.
Any thoughts on what else I can try? Any firmware updates that I could apply specific to audio issues like this, or perhaps it is some sort of hardware issue that is preventing the software drivers from behaving properly?
thanks,
fishtek
I would Odin back to complete stock and see if the issue still arises. If it does then it could be hardware related.
Same problem

I have that sane issue and nothing I do seems to work.
This is a cross post from the thread I found on reddit, I take no credit for this find.
The problem for this person was "I purchased some Beyedynamic DT990 Pros (low impedance ersion; 32ohm) and there is some issue with the jack. It seems to trigger the button of me pressing the microphone button, with minimal movement. It either brings up voice command or just pauses the music, even if I just turn off the screen. If I try to increase the volume it also brings up the voice command sometimes.
Just moving the phone slowly causes the music to stop (if it doesnt already when turning the screen off.
Anyone have any solutions to this? These are good headphones, they work with my pc perfectly. I will test with my ipod aswell.
I was thinking of getting a female to male jack just to see if a different connector works. But these are audiophile headphones so the quality isn't really questionable."
and the solution was
"Download the app SoundAbout. It lets you force your phone to detect the headphones correctly. My G3 was doing the exact same thing and ever since I downloaded SoundAbout around a week or so ago everything has been working fine." "What I do is put the headphones into the jack, but not all the way until it clicks in. Just put it in enough to where the phone senses them. If the phone senses them as a headset, remove the headphones (not necessary to take them completely out, just off of the sensor inside the headphone jack) and try again. Once it detects them as regular headphones you can click them in like normal."
Sorry for the poor formatting, and unable to link the reddit thread because my account lacks posts but I found this extremely helpful and hope everyone with this issue does too.

Thread is LG G3 can't deal with proper headphones-
Another method from goldswimmerbj
"I have seen that many people are having issues with the phone picking up headphones as headsets and pausing music on it's own and also causing LG voice to pop up. This issue is caused by the phone picking up headphones incorrectly.
Put the headphones in slowly until you hear 2 faint beeps. Once you hear those just continue plugging in the headphones."
Hope this solves your problems with the LG G3,
My LG G3 has a different problem I guess
Thanks for the info OP.
Mine has headset issue, but only during phone calls.
When I play music, I have no problem at all, during the phone calls, this is where the issue comes. the sound is bad, just like the phone is in a really bad reception area, however, when I unplug the headset, use the phone itself, there is no problem at all, same for the speaker.
i tried with different headset, all same result. I tried the options in the thread above, same. also, my phone detect the headsets ok, once the headset is plugged, the phone has the headset icon appeared
my phone is LG G3, 32G, Canadian Bell version.
any help would be much appreciated
Hello everyone,
My LG G3 is giving me a hard time, when I connect a headset, its microphone isn't working or it does but it's barley audible compared to the device's own mic.
The headphones part is working as usual and when the headset is connected sounds goes only through them like it should.
I've started using this headset a few days ago and it worked like a charm but then it's suddenly stopped working like it had been.
Fortunately I have another LG G3 on hand, so first I checked the headset with it and it works perfect.
So then I've replaced the 3.5 audio jack from the other G3 into my own to figure out if it is causing the problem and it is NOT,
since I got no improvement in my own phone and I also put MY jack in the other G3 and it worked there flawlessly with two different headsets.
I've been trying to record into / monitor with two different apps (lg audio recorder and another another one).
I've killed all apps running in the background. I've restarted numerous times, ran CCleaner to clear cache memories and whatever.
At one point a few days ago, maybe it was just before it started (and this might be a clue) the "plugged device" icon or "headset" icon on the notification bar stayed even after I've disconnected the headset and I think I needed to restart the phone but if i'm not wrong the headset kept working after that.
I was trying to find any kind of audio service to restart or anything like that but I didn't find any, I just killed them all to see if it helps.
I've also tried using "soundabout" app to try to force the audio path to the headset and played with some settings but to no avail (I disabled soundabout service after that attempt).
Right now I see no other option but a hard reset and I'm pretty sure it will solve the issue. but I hate going through backing up and restoring everything. and even so, who said this issue won't happen again? I've tried to search for an answer but found nothing like my problem on the web.
I just read something old from 2013 that mentions a bug in android audio. not sure it's related. something about "AudioPolicyMangerBase" (it seems I can't post links yet) from an app that had a switch to switch between headset mode or phone mode. but in any case it's no longer maintained. again, not sure it's related.
Update: Now I got no sound with two different headsets on the SECOND LG G3 as well. it seems messing with it around, plugging and unplugging messes with it's software somehow and maybe it locks the audio route in a way that it's can't work.
Any way to reset all audio ins/outs routes in the device?
I'll appreciate your help. Thanks a lot!
Roy.
