Data/Cellular GONE! SAD! using custom ROM - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I put a custom rom [cyogenmod 13] on my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for 6 months now. (I tried posting in the Cyogenmod Forum. I couldn't see where to start a thread) Suddenly, I lost cellar voice and data. I called Sprint and they told me to update my PRL. CM took away that function off the setting menu. Is it possible to update my PRL using Cyogenmod ROM or do I have to reinstall the stock ROM?

No, you will have to flash to stock to update the PRL. I just did this a few days ago. My cell service was really bad and the PRL update helped.
I would make a full backup using twrp, then wipe all except external SD - if you have one (highly recommended) install the stock rooted OH3 ROM in this forum, boot, update your PRL ... Then reboot to twrp, wipe again, then restore your backup. Works like a charm, but takes some time.

I had tried to post this 3 times now, and it never saved my messages, so now I'm gonna simplify it.
I had a similar issue using Mokee, which is based on CM, where I messed up my activation and my Access Point Names (APNs) to the point that I had to go back on the rooted OH3 MysticGold04 pointed out. After updating the PRL and Profile, had tried to call out, got Sprint instead, they helped me activate my phone again properly.
Got back on the custom ROM, and had to search for proper APNs cuz I didn't take the time to look on the stock ROM, so I found a post on this page
http://androidforums.com/threads/still-no-lte-resolved.919071/
posted by user Johnny4 that had the correct APN info for me.
To summarize, use the time updating the PRLs and Profile to also get the correct APN info if you don't already have it, as the PRL/Profile will work for Voice and SMS messages, where the APN will work for LTE data and MMS messages.
Hope this helps. I saved my message in a text file to preserve my sanity if this doesn't work.

Found a method to get the APN access on stock ROMs from http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f453/sprint-note-2-l900-apn-option-not-work-1950156/ by OscarR87:
"You need to run SSU.APK [I'm guessing he means SuperSU], root the device and install BUILDPROP EDITOR.
At the very bottom of the build prop file insert the following:
ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
ril.sales_code=LOL
Save it...Once you restart you will be able to get APN settings under mobile networks."

[Q] Updated radios now cant make calls

I'm totally baffled as to what I could have done wrong. First of all I have 2 evo's, my wifes and mine. We were running cyanogen nightlies and found out about all the radio updates. I downloaded the zip file to flash them all and everything was ok on reboot. Another post had also said to flash back to a sense based rom and update the PRL and Profile so I flashed sense and both phones were saying "error code 1012" Looking deeper there were posts saying to ##786# and clear the information, reboot to recovery and flash, dalvik, cache, and factory reset. I did this and that's when we lost all connection to sprints network. Found out that wiped our phone # from MDN and MSID so I changed those back to our phone # and rebooted, still nothing. Unrooted both phones completely and still no go. However they would download the newest OTA if I was connected to wifi. Downloaded that and installed with no problem and now my phone works. Downloaded the prl profile. My wifes however... (she isn't to happy) It won't connect to the network and anytime she dials out the account is not activated. Sorry for such a long drawn out post but I wanted to make sure I got all the information that is needed. If anybody can help me figure this out I would greatly appreciate it.

[Q] Bad data profile update, no internet

Hi, I decided to flash over to a sense rom and update my Data Profile and PRL.
The Data Profile and PRL gave me a 1012 error(Think that's right) and would not update them.
After I got the error on both of them, My internet stopped working.
Last time this happened sprint had me ##data# and reset my profile.
I do not remember what they had me do.
Can anyone help me fix or reset my Data Profile so that I can get data back?
Thanks
Did you do a nandroid back up of you stock rom? try flashing that back after clearing everything except sd card in recovery. If you did not do a back up of stock rom down load to your computer one from the forum like brads stock rom or fipmodz rom the then transfer to your sd card and flash see if that wors you can do your updates in those.

Should get you back up and running.
Thanks for the replies.
I fixed it by downloading another rom (From shipped-roms.) and flashed it.
Went into update PRL and Profile and they both updated without any issues.
I now have internet back on CM
Apparently the sense rom I flashed the first time has something wrong with it.
Even though their post said all they did was add su/root.
I tried the bad rom again and I am still getting the "-1012 error" and it still breaks internet.
If anyone else has this problem, download the stock rom from a more trusted source, not a random users forum post on here. Then try to update.
Thanks again.

That link was to Calkulin's Flashable zip for the Radios. I have used it and can verify it as a valid method of updating. What rom did you use the first time that was bad? Just for curiosity reasons.
And if it happens, just call sprint, they can force push a prl and profile update to the phone, if you are on a sense (preferably stock) rom obviously.

[Q] Flashed FE16 Modem on ICS, phone now not activated?

So my phone was @ EL29. I decided that when I was updating from CM9-alpha3 to CM9-alpha4 that I'd also go ahead and update my modem. I updated CM9, and it rebooted fine and was still working.
Went back and Odin'd the FE16 modem, and it rebooted. Once it booted up, I got a 'Activate your phone' page stating "A special call needs to be made to activate your phone service. After pressing 'Activate'... " but this doesn't work (The number or code you dialed is incorrect.)
From what I can tell, this is because ICS doesn't support the ## dialer codes? I did some searching, but couldn't come up with much. I found this post in the modem thread, which links to a "multiboot" ROM for the Epic 4G (not the Touch) that boots a stock ROM off the SD Card and doesn't affect the current running ROM, which lets you do things like Update PRL / Update Profile / etc.
Is there anything like that for the E4GT? Or am I going to have to wipe, go back to GB, re-activate/update profile/update prl on stock, wipe again and go back to CM9?
Another option is to program your phone through QPST, but you might find that to be just as troublesome as flashing back to stock.
A quick search pointed me to this thread for QPST. Doesn't seem too terribly difficult (except that I'm on a Linux box, might have to do some fun VirtualBox emulation to get it working on a Windows VM).
Technically I lied when I said I flashed the stuff using Odin... actually used heimdall, but it does the same thing.
What's funny is my data is working 3G/4G with no problem. If I try to place a call, it immediately hangs up. Trying ##72786# gives a recording that "Your phone is not yet activated. To activate, press end and call customer service"
Service is through ting (who uses Sprint's network)

It sounds like you need to reprogram your MDN and MSID? Are the correct values shown under About, Status? Check the PRL field too.

Hmmm, yep - looks like my MDN and MSID got fubarred?
About->Status:
Network: Sprint
Service State: In Service

Mobile Network state: Disconnected

i actually had something like this happen about a week or two ago. I used heimdall on my mac to flash a new modem while on an AOSP rom, and was told I had to activate the phone. I couldn't figure out anything to do except restore a TW backup and activate then restore back to my current AOSP setup. I never experienced having a modem flash de-activate the phone, but this was the only time i ever used heimdall, usually use Odin on windows.
Odin back to a stock ROM using a one click, Odin a stock modem of your choice and check clear phone efs, and boot up and allow it to reactivate.

First I tried extracting the packages from the OdinOneClick to use heimdall to flash it back to stock. Ended up in a bootloop on the Spring 4G screen. Brought up a Win7 box and used the oneclick on Windows to get back to stock. Reactivated, reflashed the FE16 modem. Now back to CM9 I go.. oh well, all fixed
Thanks ya'll

Good going JLM!
Btw Revamper, I think any of the one-click flashes both the stock modem and kernel along with the rom so you don't necessarily have to flash a modem right away.
Edit: Also, what's the 'clear phone efs'?

It does but you can't clear phone EFS. that clears all sprint data and forces your phone to activate again.

Did you do a full restore or a data preserve?
Edit; if you did a data preserve, your phone will act funny when coming from a ROM. You should do a FE16 full restore if you haven't already, it will reset all your phone settings to factory, but it's the best option when coming from a ROM.

If you're worried about modem speed, FE16 to me is the best modem since FC18.

[Q] How to enable network data after installing Cyanogenmod CM11 M7?

I tried flashing a custom ROM for the first time last night and so far I am really loving it. The only problem is, after flashing the CM11 M7 ROM it wont access any data over the cell network. I did figure out that if using Titanium Backup I restore my stock ROMs 4.3 data only from the Phone/Messaging Storage (SMS/MMS/APN) then reboot the network data does work. However, this causes the SMS to cease functioning. As soon as any app (default messenger, hangouts, 2-3 others I tried from store) tries to open it immediately crashes. Interestingly, it also will not allow me to restore my SMS records using Super Backup at this point. If I go back into Titanium backup then wipe the data for this process then the SMS starts working again, but all the old messages have been cleared, and as soon as I restart the phone the Network data is not working again.
Any ideas on what to do? I am wondering if maybe I need to adjust something in my APN profile, though I have absolutely no idea where I would get the information to do this.
This is what I am working with:
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3 i747 (AT&T) -- [though currently I am using a TIGO sim card in Guatemala, wonder if this could have anything to do with it? was not a problem prior to switching the ROM though]
ROM: cm-11-20140608-SNAPSHOT-M7-d2lte.zip , the Cyanogenmod CM11 Snapshot lte release from yesterday
Android Version: 4.4.2
Baseband Version: I747UCUEMJB
Kernel Version: 3.4.91-cyanogenmod-g9b9605b8 [email protected] #1
Anyways, only having one or the other of my network data vs sms working is not really an option for me, so need to figure something out.
Thanks!

I apologize in advanced for not answering your question.
Is your issue that you cannot even get a signal with CM installed? I am also having the same issue.
Did your phone get signal/mobile network with the stock ROM? I am unable to find out if mine will work right now because it would take me a few days to download the stock ROM image...
Will be following this thread...
Mike
Have you checked that the APN on your phone is the right one for your carrier? Google search apn tigo guatemala galaxy s3 Many useful results will come up.
Ok here is how this played out. I did just need to reset then re enter the apn info for tigo in Guatemala. I actually managed to pull this info out of my pre flash backup from when I was using the stock Rom, then wipe the data for the process mentioned. This restored sms functionality and I then was able to manually enter the apn info (if anyone needs the Guatemala tigo apn info just post here and I can grab it when I am next at my cpu). I find it interesting that the apn info was automatically present and correct when I was using the stock Rom, but when I flashed cm11 over it was not there.
Just arrived back in the US and popped in my AT&T SIM card, everything worked fine right off the bat with it.
In answer to your question, after flashing cm11 I did have signal, but only for calls and sms. The data component of the network was not recognized.

APN won't stick

I have unlocked s6 and APN won't stick. When put into network mode automatic I get to input APN and it works until I let phone turn off screen or I manually hit power button. When I get back into phone the APN setting I input, for t-mobile, are gone. There are Sprint APN listed but I can't choose nor add or delete any. If I choose LTE GSM auto prl through one of the service menu's I am able to again choose APN and input what I want but at sleep and rewake the phone goes back to not listing the APN and having greyed out sprint APN. Phone works but have data issues here and there and sometimes have to reboot to get lte to stick. Lock screen sometimes shows T-mobile as carrier but usually shows Sprint. I can still make calls and use LTE data on my t-mobile sim when it says Sprint as carrier but I think my data and mms issues would be fixed if I could get the dang APN to stick. Any ideas? Different rom? I'm on 5.1.1 OJ7

This is a really old thread, but since I've been struggling with this issue for several months, I think this is the place for a reply.
There are several problems with a "sprint" unlocked S6, but the most annoying (other than hands free activation) is the APN settings going back to default and being "locked" until you reboot the phone. When in this "locked" state - you will not be able to receive MMS messages.
I have found that deleting (or simply renaming) the customer.xml (/system/csc/customer.xml) stops the resetting of the APN - and interestingly opens up the additional configurations under Mobile Networks -> Network Mode to choose GSM/WCDMA/LTE.
After fixing this and fixing hands free activation (https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s6/help/hands-free-activation-t3199214) the phone now performs VERY well on T-Mobile, just like it belongs there
I just checked my device on 7.0 Nougat and I can't find that file (there is no folder in root>system called "csc"). Any idea how I can fix this?

You may not be allowed to view certain system files for some reason. I believe you have to be rooted to delete them. You could also try the system update first if you are stock. But probably best bet either way would be to start with clean install of whatever ROM you use or the stock ROM from TWRP. I've been able to delete the files from skyhigh and Rick Wardenberg's ROM. if it's not too late
First you need your msl code I can help if not.then use data daily code or an app idonee don't get a fake I found on code after you do that you just need to change mms and apn setting see screenshot.i have 920p on 7.0 stock rooted running on t-mobile lte get mms everything
