Random shutdown/loss of settings - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
I've had my phone for over a year now, and randomly it died while at around 30% and when it turned back on, I lost my keyboard settings as well as Wi-Fi networks and vibrate on press feedback.
I attached my battery screenshot and it's weird. Forgive the f.lux that changes the screen color
Does anyone know what could have caused this? TIA

I had exactly the same problem with my m8 which was 2 years old.....I did not manage to fix it.... That was the reason i bought 10

When this happened to me, it turned out to be battery degradation was the cause. Only option was to send in for repair to have the battery replaced. No amount of trying to calibrate the battery helped.
I'd suggest sending it for a warranty repair, seems to be the only option. The reason your settings are resetting themselves is because of the sudden shutdown caused by the battery shutting down the system instantly, so it's unable to save data correctly.

Same, my old m8 would do this every time battery died completely

Hello guys,
Please help me,i don't know what to do anymore,i've search the threads in this forum and try any solution given for the same problem as mine but none of them work.i don't know what makes my battery draining very very fast, only about 5 hours from 100% to 10%..... in standby mode,no running program, no new today plugins
i just charged it again 1 hour ago and now it is down to 90% already without any usage....
there's no problem with my 838pro yesterday, then suddenly after i charged it this morning it suddenly draining very quickly 100% at 9.30 am and down to 10% at 3.00pm (without any usage) after that i charged it again and it already down to 90% in 1 hour without any usage, bt off wifi off. i didn't install any new program or any plugin.it makes me so confuse and desperate my phone just 1,5 months old and already got defective battery??
pls some one help me
thanks a lot.
is bluetooth and or wifi on ?
nope. bluetooth is off wifi is off. usually with bluetooth on i get around 2-3 days of battery life until this morning.
soft reset to make sure there arent any dying apps running at the background.
i already did the soft reset at 90% and now it already down to 80%.i just see it a few hours again, will it remain 80% or will be down again....
so desperate
70% already.. without any usage,no running programs,bt off,wifi off.don't know what happend
is there any recommendation where i can get extended battery?i already give up.don't know what happend.last thing i'll try is to recover with spb back up.
already tried to hard reset.but doesn't effect anything, the battery keep draining very fast.so i guess this is a hardware problem.any help guys??
thanks a lot.
Is your Infrared on? Have you installed or activated a email program to check often for your email or a push email program? Or have you installed a app to update or check weather/news? Or any other proggy that needs communications to update? Soft resetting with a program set to communicate will not turn it off. Also, do you have a low signal strength as opposed to before? Have you changed the band setting under the phone options? Or are you using a different service(3G and not GSM) now that you weren't using before? Has syncing options been changed to wireless? Don't know if any of these helped. Just some of the things I've seen others do and become surprised at the battery usage.

nope i don't run any application above.i'm using 3G service since the first day i bought it and it doesn't effect the battery life.i just sent it the 838pro back to the distributor this afternoon waiting for their explanation and hopefully will solve my problem cause i think it's a hardware problem cause i already done hard reset and still the battery keep draining
YEAH my battery has been drainging faster too
noticed wifi on = fast drain.
Turned it off, it's not draining as fast, but still faster then yesturday
the only difference was, yesturday was tmobile default rom. today is auk3.3 one
Does Edge Drain Faster Then Gsps?
Try this
I had the same problem. (actually do again and won't fix this time - my original and extended but they're both pretty old). But I was able to fix it before by running battery totally dead. keep soft resetting til doesn't come on and try soft reset a few more times. Make sure battery completely dead and its 'charge memory' erased. then let it fully charge. Was recommended to me and it worked at one time. If your battery is new like you sa it might work.
thanks a lot for the suggestions... i got a replacement battery from the distributors... thanks GOD...

[Q] Is there a problem with my battery?

Hi,
Is there something wrong with my battery? This is the second time it has happened to me .. last time I left it overnight at 45% and when I woke up the phone was off, so I looked in battery usage and saw that it fell to 0 right from ~25%, and today, I was in an international call, and the call cut off and the phone shut down. It wasn't hot at all, I checked.
Is there some bug with the software, or is it a problem with my battery?
Can you check in the setting menu, where the battery is used for? There must be some or one thing, maybe a constantly updating widget, which is faulty, it really take me 1.5 days before my battery is flat with internet on all the time, and 3 days plus with internet off.
On the other hand I had the same with my lg a while ago and after a flash it was OK.
Sometimes these kind of phones behave very unpredictable....

Oh I'm not worried about the battery life, I was putting it through a lot of use.. and I have a lot of widgets updating frequently
My concern is with the sudden drop from ~25% to 0 which has happened twice now
your battery might be wrongly calibrated.Download battery calibrator from market.charge to 100%,click calibrate battery..it should fix your problem

This happened to me few times. The last time I noticed was from ~48% left it overnight (only about 6 hours) and I woke up to find the phone was off. Usually my phone loose about ~25% overnight. Not sure what or who is the culprit. I have flashed few firmwares and none fixed the issue. Currently I'm rooted using Generic World firmware with locked bootloader and removed many bloatwares.

I've this program installed and I'm sure it has not helped with this issue. I see "missing data" when there is a sudden loss of battery.
I´ve also the problem; my arc is not rooted, so there is no chance to calibrate the battery...?
Had it once, took the battery out and in again and it had 20% more again. Then I charged it at home and so far it works fine.

Thank you. I´ve taken out the battery for about 15 minutes and put it in. The percentage is still as before.
Is there another way to reset the batterystats.bin without root?
Well looks like many people are having this issue, either there are a lot of faulty batteries out there, or its a problem with the firmware. I'm leaning towards the latter.
I'm using Rogers 2.3.3, what are you guys using?

I experinced this issue with Singapore generic firmware as well as World Generic (current) firmware. Hence I don't think it could be a specific firmware issue.
Awake
Anyway to find out what or which program kept the phone to stay in awake? As you can see the screenshot, the phone was awake during random times and most of the time without the screen isn't on.
Sorry, no idea, perhaps someone else here can help
For me its probably something like latitude which I set to auto update

"Latitude"? How can I verify that it doesn't affect me
Latitude comes with Google Maps, its basically a location sharing feature. If you press the menu button in google maps you can click on latitude, then menu button again -> settings, and change from 'Detect Automatically' to 'Manual'
If you don't know what it is I doubt you actually have it enabled anyway, so it could be some weather widget maybe?

I checked and my menu reads as "Join Latitude" which means I have not enabled it in the first place (I guess so).
I'm using Beautiful widget for weather service so not sure whether that is the culprit.
I wish there is more visibility for this .
Thanks for your explanations .
Btw I tried the Supercharger script, and it has doubled my battery life
(You need root)
I chose options 1,6,17

May be due to the "Green Power" application. I checked before and if I switch on the WiFi it is continues without any problem.
I too hope for the same as you. Annoying bug .
I have the very same problem. The phone battery goes from 100% to 66-64 over the night...showing that the Cell standby and Display has drained the most of the %...

My M8 turns off by itself & afterwards settings etc are reset!

I'm experiencing a weird problem with my M8. The unit would turn itself off all of a sudden. This happens without a low battery warning and no other error messages or warning displayed on screen. No beeps or audio cues, either. I would be looking at it and using it as per normal when it would just power down and turn off all by itself. This has happened twice in the last two weeks. In both instances, they have these in common:
a) Battery was low but not critically so. IIRC, the first time it happened the battery was at 25% and the latest incidence the battery was at 18%. The low battery warning usually given at 15% power wasn't displayed.
b) In both cases, I've just only turned the display on & started using the M8 for less than 15 seconds before it turns off.
c) In both instances, the mobile data & GPS was on. Wifi was off. Phone wasn't charging and the camera/flash was also off.
What I do after this happens is I would go home & charge the phone using the original M8 charger. The charging battery icon would be displayed and the charging level tallies with the last charge level that I see before the phone turns off. I let the phone charge for about 10 minutes or so before tinkering with it.
What's frustrating is that after these sudden shutdowns, some of my settings were reset & the phone will be wonky. I had to re-do the settings in both the settings app & also Google settings according to my preferences. Some default apps were cleared as well, so the phone would ask which app I'd like to use for my Home screen (either Sense Home or Nova Launcher, which I use exclusively). Some developer options were reset too, e.g animation scale etc. Other basic settings as well, such as auto updating apps in Google Play Store.
Also, first time it happened, I was locked out of my phone. The lock screen is displayed but all the PIN combinations I've tried seems to be wrong. The lock screen would go off after I try inputting the PIN. Restart by pressing vol button with power button didn't work at all. I'd touch the screen, the lock screen will be displayed, I'd try inputting PIN but I guess it's wrong because the screen just goes off. In the end, I had to reset the PIN number using Android Device Manager on Chrome running on my desktop PC. Only then was I able to access my phone. My wallpaper was reset, although my app icons on the desktop was the same as before. Apps were all there.
The 2nd time this happened was yesterday. I wasn't locked out of my phone but all my text messages (SMS) were lost. No other loss of data, as far as I can tell. But some of the settings, default app preferences & also app permissions were reset. Had to redo them all over again. Getting a bit tiring, this.
I don't understand what's happening. My M8 is on 6.0, stock ROM & unrooted. Never rooted. I've done the battery calibration steps once but that was before the Marshmallow update. When my M8 was running Lollipop, there were times when it would turn itself off as well but it was triggered by using the camera flash at low battery levels. However, settings, app preferences & permissions were not reset at all then.
Has this happened to anyone? What could be wrong? Would appreciate any & all feedback Thanks in advance.
This happens to me too. My battery is dodgy and it turns itself off when the battery is displaying anywhere up to 30%!! What I have found is that if you attempt to turn the phone on and it turns back off during the boot process then this is what screws up the settings. As long as it is charging and completes the boot without turning off then the settings are fine.
This is a MM problem. Wasn't present with LP as you and others have reported.
The only possible fixes on your end is to do a factory reset and then run the phone down until it shuts off and then charge to 100% with the phone still off. You can also try holding power+vol up+vol down for 2 minutes. This should wipe battery calibration stats. These suggestions may or may not resolve the problem but are worth trying.

Its happening to me!
I thought this was MM issue but i have flashed cm 14.1 and still the same problem is happening. My phone turns of somewhere between 15%-30% everytime. I have tried re-calibrating the battery but it didn't help. Now i am thinking to sell the device due to this issue.
My girlfriend had the same problem with her HTC one M8.
I've replaced the memorycard with a new one last week and it didn't happen since. Hopefully this will solve the problem
Hi together.
I want to give an information about my experience with sudden shut off. I had this issue with my M8 since about six months now. Tried the stuff with recalibrating the accu without success.
Last thing I did was changing the accu. And now everything is all right. The power is remaining much longer over the daily use and I can bring it down below 15% without sudden death.

HTC10 random restart, widgets gone

Hi all
I've been trying to solve this problem for a few months now. Basically, the majority of the time this happens is when my phone is under 55% battery.
- When opening an app the phone will restart itself. Sometimes it restarts at the exact same battery percentage level, other times it restarts and it is sitting at 3% battery.
This has also happened when the phone was at over 75% battery.
I notice that a lot of the time when it restarts all of my widgets are gone. I have animations turned off in developer settings and occasionally when it restarts these are turned back on again. I'm using a custom keyboard and occasionally when it restarts it will reset to the factory keyboard with vibrations and sounds turned back on.
My phone is not rooted and I'm not using a case. The phone is 1 year 4 months old, although since it started a few months ago it was around the 1 year mark. So no warranty. My software is up to date and all apps are updated. Play store says none of them are corrupted.
I contacted HTC support and they suggested testing the battery by charging to 100% then turning it on airplane mode with the screen on full brightness and leaving it for 1 hour to see how much the battery drains. It only drained 2% (he said it could drain up to 25%) so it is not the battery. He then said I should test the apps to see if one of them is causing it. Unfortunately there are no HTC service centres in Sydney (only retailers who double as service centre) so I'd have to send it away for HTC to check it.
Yesterday I thought it could be the htc flip clock, as since the last restart that was the only widget I had and it disappeared on the restart yesterday, so I removed it and kept using the phone to see what happened. The battery was able to still be used without restarting down to under 15% which has not happened for months, so I'm thinking it could be that widget causing the issue. I've since added a different clock/weather widget but I hate the look of it and it doesn't open the stock HTC weather app when clicked.
So I guess my question is, is anyone else having this same issue and if so, did you find the cause of the issue/have you managed to fix it?
I'd rather not do a system restore unless completely necessary as I'm about to go overseas for a month and I don't want to risk losing anything so close.
Thanks in advance for any help. Hopefully I've added all relevant info.
So after removing the flip clock widget and replacing with another and all day use my battery is down to 27% and has not restarted once. I may have solved my own problem, although it doesn't explain why the battery drains so fast but I guess I can work that out on my own.
Hopefully anyone else with this issue will find this and solve it too.
Cheers
Test it with some battery drainer first, if it reboot then it is the battery.
My 10 just got the battery replaced by HTC had similar issue, it will reboot when high cpu usage and battery level under 40%, it will seems working ok if there is little cpu usage and will only turn off at about 3~5%

Notifications disabled after 30 minutes under WiFi only

Hello everybody,
sorry to bother this community, but I have a weird issue with the phone. My nephew gave me the Motorola G7 Play and when I am under any wifi (tried many) I do not received any notification. This does not happen immediately, but after the screen remains off for at least 30 minutes.
As advised from the assistance we have reset the phone at least twice and nothing has changed.
Do you have any idea if there are any tricky setting or application that are causing the issue?
Please, let me know if there is a quick fix, otherwise I will keep using 4G only as I am doing at the moment, this way there are no issues at all.
Have a nice day,
Cosetta
It might be memory management or there is a battery optimization setting that sends the phone to sleep when using wifi to conserve battery... Take a look deeper in the settings and perhaps turn off battery optimisation for apps that you need to keep receiving notifications for.
