Hi guys,
i have some issues with charging my inc2.
it is not accepting any charge anymore, tried diffrent chargers, cables, even on my pc but nothing. The orange charging LED just flashes slowly on and off...
Any ideas?
Need to replace phone or replace charging port.

Yes, unfortunately it is a known hardware issue. Over time, the charging port starts coming loose. Like mentioned above, you CAN fix it yourself. There are video tutorials on YouTube and the replacement part can be had for under $10. If your device is still under warranty, Verizon will replace the phone. If it's not under warranty (or if you just want to give it a go), the port replacement process is pretty straightforward.
I might give it a try. Does anybody have a video or a link?
The weird thing is, that the battery is discharging very fast, could it be just a bad battery?

Could b the back door on your inc 2. I believe you need the back door on to charge cuz it goes thru contacts on the back. I dropped mine one day and charging and getting signal was almost impossible till I figured that out and bought a new one

Seems to charge now. Won't touch it until it is full. After that I will check what is going on.
I don't know where this issue came from.never dropped it nothing. It was even in a Otterbox

The issue stems from regular use. The charging port is essentially held in place only by the connections to the board. Repeatedly plugging and unplugging the power cable causes it to break over time.

yeah it has to be replaced. happened to me last month. It's honestly like the worst flaw with this phone

Def need to replace it. Same issues I was having at one point with it randomly taking charge. I found that if the charger is plugged in a held a certain level ( i placed the phone on a flat surface with a book under the cord for leverage) it would charge just fine.
If you are rooted and sending back, make sure you revert to stock to avoid any annoyances.
I've managed to solve this issue without messing around with the phone's innards (the last time I did it was a disaster and I was forced to buy an entirely new phone). It's not pretty, but if you twist a rubber band around the micro usb end of your charger, plug your phone in, twist that same rubber band around the phone itself, and make sure the connection very tight, you might get some more life out of your charger port.
Ugh. I can't wait for my upgrade.

While, I give you major kudos points for MacGuyver-ing a solution, that's more of a quick band-aid than a real fix. I could imagine having a rubber band around the phone could potentially hinder usage.
But hey, way to think outside the box! :good:

Thank you. You're telling me. Do you know how hard it is to use a touch screen with a rubber band across it? Oy.
Right. The caveat here, of course, is that this technique will only help charge your phone until the charging port becomes so disconnected from the board that no amount of force will reestablish this contact. And this will inevitably happen because you're going to keep plugging and unplugging your phone from the charger which is what created the issue in the first place.
If you know you have big, sweaty, idiot hands (like me) that are going to destroy your phone if you take it apart (like me) and you can tough it out: more power to you. The other alternative is to buy an external battery charger and a second battery. The disadvantages here are pretty obvious (e.g. you have to carry a second battery around; if you forget a second battery, you can't ask another Android user to borrow their phone charger, etc.).
Hi all, I'm pretty lost here. My Note II (N7100) suddenly won't charge. Earlier today it charged just fine. I've only ever run stock with root on it. It's not the charger, it's not the cable. I've tried many of both, all of which worked before, none of which work now. I flashed back to stock recovery and did a factory reset, and the problem persists.
When I plug it into a charger while off, briefly a gray battery screen with what looks like a stationary 'wait spinner' will pop up and then the screen will turn back off again. I know the USB port is not totally FUBARed, because I can flash it with heimdall in Linux. It shows up in lsusb when in the bootloader, but not otherwise. The port is pretty much spotless, especially compared with that on my GNex, which still works fine.
I've tried leaving the battery out for an hour, holding the power button, etc. It almost seems like a problem that could be solved by discharging some capacitors, but battery pulls always solved those on my Galaxy Nexus.
Any thoughts on other things I can try?
I can't even figure out how to contact Samsung support in case this is somehow a warranty/hardware issue. At least on their US site the N7100 isn't even an option in the pulldowns they want me to go through.

This is really stupid and I plan to write to Samsung about it. It had only been three weeks since I ordered it, so I am returning it to the Amazon seller for a refund. I cant really help here but i wanted to let you know i had the same problem with a white note 2 from Carphone Warehouse in the UK, just stopped charging after owning the phone for 2 days (i had also only rooted and running stock rom).
Carphone warehouse replaced the handset for me and havent had a problem with the new one so far but its made me take extra care when plugging or unplugging the usb cable ( i use Airdroid for file transfers now). I guess there must be a defect with a limited few usb ports on the note 2.
I thought it might be a 3rd party usb cable to blame (i use a blackberry usb cable at work but ive stopped that now and only use the official Samsung cable).
Sorry i cant help just wanted to share my experiences, hope you get it sorted, good luck!
Thanks for chiming in Steve, good to know I'm not the only one. I saw another post on here like that too, maybe it was yours? There was no discussion. The strange thing is ODIN worked just fine. Maybe a loose connection only on one/both of the power pins?
Nah it wasn't me mate, I had just put it down to me being heavy handed and thought nothing more of it till I saw your post.
I've seen a post in the Jellybam thread today about the charging being down to software but I don't know how true this is as i've yet to check the facts.
Did you manage to get it replaced? I remember it was the worst feeling in the world when the realization hit that my phone wouldn't charge.

Yeah I just invoked the Amazon.com return policy, sent it back for a refund, and ordered another one. It was supposed to arrive today, but apparently UPS had some kind of mechanical issue and now it's delayed until tomorrow. I just need it to get here before my next month's Verizon plan bills so I can cancel before paying another month.
Sorry to drag up an old thread but this has just happened to me, EXACTLY the same as OP.
I've reset it, wiped everything, re-flashed latest stock firmware. Tried 3 different cables and two different chargers.
Pretty sure the battery is good because if I take it out of the phone and charge it on the dock, it works fine. If I then put the battery back into the phone, the phones works in every way except it wont charge
I have most of my digital life on this thing, I am so screwed without it. Look like its a warranty repair job then? Ive had the phone about 3 months from Phones 4U :crying:

Happened to mine to T-mobile version. Never dropped it, never got it wet, only 1.5 months old.
WTF? Seriously?
Behavior:
Charges sometimes.
Charge sometimes stops at 70% or less.
Screen sensitivity screws up sometimes.
Data constantly being transmitted whether WiFi or cell network.
Never dropped.
Never wet.
Never harshly impacted.
Never rooted.
Tried factory reset.
Tried pulling battery.
Tried different chargers and cables.
Wondering if the trident aegis case put too much pressure on the charger cable by pushing it sideways with the flap.
Any ideas?

Check in the box, and if you have an EROS Group sticker on it that means it's covered under warranty here in Dubai, UAE as they are the main distributor here for Samsung products.

This happened to me yesterday after spilling tea on it. I took the device apart as per this video, checked the connectors and reassembled it. Voila, the charger is working again. Obviously I take no responsibility etc etc.
My Samsung Galaxy Note 2 wont charge
I have also had this problem where my galaxy note 2 wont charge. I have tried all the chargers i have used successfully in the past and none of them will charge it now. I had the problem some weeks ago and now it has happened again. I only purchased the phone in January 2013. It is very frustrating. I have never dropped my phone or damaged it in any way what so ever. I have no idea what the problem could be but i will be taking it back to Telstra as i need it sorted out.

I always put my phone on charge overnight , woke up yesterday and it hadn't charged. Swapped batteries - no problem - then put original battery back in, hey presto, charging!
But since then both batteries have run out and I couldn't get either to take any charge. Got it plugged in now and just like other people I've got a static charging ring showing, And no power.
Bought an external charger to try and get round this, but has anyone come up with a proper solution??

a mate of mine just mentioned to me today that his note was charging strangely recently, apparantly he took an air gun (on low setting) to the charging port to blast out any miniscule dust n stuff and that fixed it!
Seems they're very sensitive and the smallest thing can make it act strange

Can confirm this is the case! Tried everything, but the blowing air into the USB socket worked :good:
ive been having a problem with this phone for a while. it has a problem with turning on and statying on. i will set it on charge while its powered off for atleast two hours, but as soon as i turn it on it will last for about 5 mins and turn off.
i first replaced the battery and it has the same problem. so i replaced the charging port and it was working fine for a few weeks and now its back to the same issue. i cant even get it to charge now
so just trying to figure out what kind of other components it could be
Disclaimer: You're at a more advanced level than I am. I've never done phone repair, and I don't know enough about phone hardware to say if there are other components that could be responsible. I'm a software guy.
That being said, I'll chime in with what I do know, on the off chance that it's actually helpful.
When computers get too hot, they do an automatic thermal shutdown to try to prevent permanent damage. I assume smartphones do this as well. You're on XDA, so there's a good chance you like to tinker. Did you overclock the phone? Overclocking generates more heat, which could potentially lead to a thermal shutdown or permanent damage. Or you might be using or storing the phone in a hot environment.
Have you tried using a different charging cable? Maybe the cable or its connector went bad. You could also test the cable with a different device. Maybe the wall outlet, etc went bad. Did you check the connectors that the battery attaches to, to make sure they're clean?
When you opened the phone to replace the charging port, maybe you didn't put it together quite right, so over time something came loose or got pinched. Desktops and laptops use various types of adhesives such as thermal paste, and computer technicians have to remember to reapply new adhesive when putting a machine back together. Maybe phones use some adhesive too, and maybe you forgot to reapply it?
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable about phone hardware will chime in, but the Incredible 2 section of these forums has been a ghost town lately. That's why I'm giving my two cents. If it were me, I'd just buy a new phone.

well i greatly appreciate your lengthly response. to be honest, it is my mothers phone, which is why i want to try and fix it. i gave her an iphone so she really doesnt need this phone but i would like to figure out what is wrong because i do like to tinker with things. i have tried different chords, wall outlets, usb ports on the pc etc. i will reopen the phone to see if everything is back together, because thats the only thing i can think of from what you mentioned.

sounds like you're either having a battery issue or need to replace your charge port on your phone. its a really simple process all you do is order the port from like amazon or ebay and the old one on your phone just unplugs from your phone circuit board there actually is a tutorial forum in the development page for the droid incredible 2 that gives you instructions on how to do this. hope this was of some help to you and if so please click thanks.

This... it's too much. Okay, a month ago the damned power button got too hard to press in, which should have been a warning that the hardware was getting faulty I suppose. But I downloaded an app that let me use the volume button to turn screen on/off. (I won't say which because I half-blame it, unfairly, for killing my phone
(Sorry, I'm still —mourning! the death of my phone I guess.)
The app was an ugly solution, I guess, but it worked. (I couldn't turn the screen off easily, so I set the screen-off to 10 seconds.) And I hadn't used screenshots in a while so that was no big deal; and my ROM could get me to Recovery easily enough, so screw the power button, right?
But then last night, my phone STOPPED CHARGING! I did a batt pull, tried new cords; turned off every useful app. I even went back to stock ROM, which (even though plugged in) left me with 20% batt. Might as well have bricked it, I guess.
Nothing worked. I was able to turn bluetooth back on so I could use my Air Droid acct to get my on-phone pictures, at least (everything else is safe on the SD), and then I charged it overnight in the wall and hoped for the best.
I was pretty thrilled to wake up to 100% charged! —For a few minutes. As soon as I unplugged it, it started discharging fast, and then not even the wall charger stopped it from discharging.
After brooding, for a few hours, I called Verizon tech. The tech (VERY nice, admittedly) said my Dinc2 was just dead. (Damn they're good: he was more sympathetic than a doctor delivering bad news!!) —But I feel so lost. He offered me a DNA or a Dinc 4G (and some motos and crap), but said my Dinc2 wouldn't be worth fixing. He said the power button alone was a PITA, but the dongle thing you plug the charger into was likely the problem, AND it might be the battery. Maybe he said other problems, but ultimately he suggested some pre-owneds he had for sale (I'm trying to keep my unlimited data plan), or try PhoneKarma.com. (He said he didn't recommend eBay, where they have Dinc 2s, but I'm not sure why.)
So ...do Dinc2s just have power issues after (?) 3 years? I guess that's a pretty good lifetime, but boy is it depressing. (I know — hooked on a damned phone. #Sucks.) I mean, it would be stupid to fix this one, or buy another one, right?

A case might make your power button easier to press. The OtterBox Defender is an excellent case that you can get for $15 used (very good condition), if a new battery successfully fixes your problem.

Hey: does it matter much if my USB cable is LG or whatever? I tried several different USBs too, but I'd been using this LG one (no idea how!) for probably about a year.
No, the brand of micro USB cable should not matter. It's a technical standard.
Don't buy a case until you've verified that a new battery actually fixes your problem. If a battery doesn't fix it, it's only a few bucks lost. In that case, I would then get a new phone.
i just came back to this thread after i basically put the project on hold for a while and wanted to see any new suggestions. so after leaving the phone alone for two months, i pluuged the phone in and i saw that orange ligh indicating it was charging. so far so good, im not using it as a primary phone which is good, but that would be my suggestion is to give the phone a rest for a while

Ive had my m8 since the end of april. It's worked and charged fine up until last Thursday. I started to notice that when I have it plugged in, the led will come on and it'll say it's charging, but it doesn't actually charge, most of the time it continued to decrease. After playing with different cables and the gsam app I found that it won't actually charge unless I put pressure or weight on top of the end of the cable that is plugged in to my phone. Even then, I have to mess with it quite a bit and hope when I wake up, it'll be charged.
This has become increasingly frustrating every time I plug it in to charge now. Has anyone else experienced this problem with your device? Also does anyone know of a fix, besides paying the $149 to get it replaced with my ATT insurance plan? I really just want to wait until around April and get a new phone, preferably with a snapdragon 810 processor, however, at this point, I don't think I can make it until then.

If you are. Comfy tearing the phone apart the charging port is on its own board/cable.
Are you sure nothing is buried in the port preventing you from pushing the cable the entire way in?

Nothing is blocking the inside, I checked. It will plug in all the way fine, but I have to put pressure down on top of the cable where it connects to the port to make it work.
Ive taken mobile devices apart before, but from what I've seen on ifixit, it looks like a pretty daunting process for the m8 and I'm not so sure I'll be able to do it without damaging anything else.
I was just seeing if anyone else may if had this same issue and they knew of a way to get it going. I'll probably just have to take it in and get it replaced

To be honest if the phone is otherwise in good shape they will probably warranty it if it doesn't look like abuse. Just make sure you are stock, locked, and s-on.

If the usb port is not moving around out of the ordinary, then dirt is usually the culprit, and sometimes it gets hardened around the metal contacts with each attach / detach of the usb cable. Try using a tiny pin to carefully clean away the dirt from the metals.
I found it to be pretty useful in the past when i had likewise problems.

Agree, that unless the phone has obvious signs of physical damage or water damage, AT&T will replace it (with a refurb) under warranty, and it won't cost the OP anything. AT&T also typically won't check for software mods. Although, its a good idea to return to mostly stock, just in case.

Yea I was able to get a free replacement. They listed it as a defect. It comes in next Thursday, thank god. I just ran the 4.4.3 ruu. I'm going to try and relock my boot loader, but I don't know if I'll be able to BC I can't get it to recognize when I plug into the computer anymore.

Try to go to Windows Device Manager (with phone connected) find the device, and pick the option to manually select drivers, the select the MTP USB driver (not HTC drivers). For some reason, I lose fastboot/adb connectivity, and have to do this very frequently (even when no changes on the phone).
But this is only if you really want to relock the bootloader. Which is not stock whether its UNLOCKED or RELOCKED. Unless you want to do the mod to change the flag to LOCKED.
In any case, good to hear they will replace the phone (and rightfully so, as it seems to be a hardware failure not caused by physical damage). So good luck.

Thanks. The problem isn't detecting the drivers, BC I've connected it and used adb tons of times, but now, since it takes a lot of time messing around to charge, I have to do the same when I connect it to the comp.
I think I'll probably just leave the bootloader unlocked and s-off. I read some other threads about having issues turning s back on. I have it on 4.4.3 unrooted. Thanks for everyone's help

Gotcha. I completely spaced on the (obvious) fact that your connectivity issues could be related to the original issue of the damaged MicroUSB port!
Driver issues are so common, its like a knee jerk reaction for me now!

Thanks. I had heard about adb WiFi but I want exactly sure what that was. I always just connected my phone to the computer before this happened.
I think I'm just going to leave the boot loader unlocked and s off. Seems like it shouldn't be a problem going back to ATT, as red point mentioned
It seems like the charging port is the cause
Update: I received my replacement phone last Thursday and mailed back my old one today. I did leave the boot loader unlocked and kept it s off, so we'll see if ATT tries to charge me for it. I'll let everyone know after they receive it.
My replacement was still running 4.4.2, so instead of going thru htcdev again to unlock the bootloader, I immediately downloaded, paid, and ran sunshine. It worked like a charm, unlocking my boot loader and turning s off. From there, I changed my cid to supercid, ran the ATT 4.4.3 ruu, then the Dev edition 4.4.4 ruu, then finally the Dev edition 5.0 ruu.
It's so great not having to mess with my phone for 20 min just to get it to charge. I also ordered a charger with Qualcomm quick charge 2.0 and it charges my phone amazingly fast.
My VZW M9 just started doing something really goofy. Randomly it just won't take a charge, regardless of the charger/ cable combination used. If I restart it, it starts charging just fine with a regular or quick charge charger as it should. Also sometimes it just goes on these fits and will randomly start HTC car mode and turn on the wifi even though I have it turned off and the HTC car app disabled in app manager. I'll tap the notification to close car mode or turn off the wifi, but then a few seconds later it just turns back on. Also the auto-rotate will turn the screens even though I have it turned off. Sometimes it does this constantly for a while, then sometimes I will have no issues for a day or so at a time then when I think everything is OK, it will start doing it again. A restart seems to stop this for a bit, but then it just starts back up. It's really annoying.
I've tried booting into TWRP recovery, cleared cache partitions, and it still does it. I'm S-off, rooted and latest stock VZW MM (3.37.605.7)
Anyone else having similar issues? Just want to know if there's a simple fix before I try doing a factory reset and have to re-install and set up apps/accounts.

That sounds like a bad flex cable from the m8 days. USB port is clean?

USB port clean.. tried a couple different cables too. All is well after a restart too for a while. It also does the stupid car mode (even though I have it disabled) randomly. Turns wifi on randomly when I have it turned off all the time.
I remember my M8 doing the same thing too.. Can't remember if/ how I ever got it taken care of.

Really does sound like the internal flex cable. I hope the m9 does in fact have one and isn't all on the mainboard. The m9 is much easier to open than the m8.

I'm am on ifixit.com as I write this, going through the guide on how to replace that USB/headphone board. Doesn't look... impossible, but not easy. According to that guide so far, it appears it is a smaller, separate PC board that has the micro-USB / headphone jacks on it, and not attached to the motherboard itself. Looks like if it continues or gets worse, I may get a quote from HTC to see how much it would be to send it in for repair VS doing it myself.
Or... maybe it will just behave and work and I won't have to do anything...

On the m8 it was a $10 part. If you lived near me I would open it up for you and swap it.
