Just got my new shield pro 2017 in the mail. Everything looks as expected with one pleasant surprise. The 2017 Shield pro package comes with the old remote which features the 3.5mm jack and usb charging . Alot of mixed info on the web regarding this. I think only a few sources have reported it and I'm happy to say it's confirmed. No other surprises. As you can see it comes with the new controller. Dimensions are as expected.

FedEx tracker says I should get mine on Tuesday. I'll also confirm when I get it. I also heard the remote would have headphone jack but other reports said otherwise. So great to hear!
I purchased mine on the 19th from Bestbuy and my remote is the new version with a battery slide-out and no headphone jack. You got lucky it seems.
My bad, didn't see you had the pro
does the new remote have an ir sensor in it or no?
how about the controller.
i got my 2017 pro on 1/29 but still haven't been able to figure that out.
i'm also trying to figure out if there is a way i can use the cec functionality to turn of and on my tv when putting my shield to sleep
any advice
The pro version comes with the old remote (rechargeable battery, headphone jack, no IR).
Non pro version comes with the new remote (replaceable battery, no headphone jack, IR).
My personal preference is the old remote as I find the headphone jack much more useful than IR. With the limited number of buttons on the remote, IMO, IR functionality wouldn't provide much of a benefit.
There are CEC control functions under settings / hdmi.. There are two options, one to turn on TV when shield is turned on and the other to turn off TV when shield is turned off.
Whether or not they work will depend on how new your TV is so YMMV with CEC. It works perfectly for me on my Vizio 55" 4K TV. It also automatically switches to the HDMI input of the shield when the shield is turned on.

1 last question in order for the shield to turn off the tv does putting it in sleep mode count to turn off the tv or does the shield literally need to be powered down
(ill be connecting it to my vizio 55 in a few months when i replace the tv that the shield is hooked up to now so its good to know how it will behave then)
I never completely power down my shield... I always choose to put it to sleep for one very good reason (in my circumstance).. I'm not sure if the 2017 PRO version is different than the 2015 version. But if you fully power down the 2015 version then you have to power it on by the button on the shield itself. The Shield 2017 NON Pro edition doesn't have a power button. The pro version does just like the 2015 version. Does it have included IR support? Since my shield is hidden away and not easily accessible it's a pain anytime anyone ever fully powers down the unit because neither the remote nor the controller will turn it back on.

I have the 2017 base model of the Shield TV. The remote does indeed have IR and it works well with my Vizio 41" 5.1 soundbar and it controls the volume, thought I hate the "touch sensitive" "slot" deal they have.. With CEC set up properly, I can let my Shield TV sleep and it will auto turn off both my TV and soundbar. Pressing the center button of the Shield Remote wakes up the Shield TV and turns on the TV and Soundbar. The new controller does have IR as well. I have done a teardown on the base model and the new controller and can confirm.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tv/general/teardown-shield-tv-2017-controller-t3549963
Anyone with the Pro 2017 model care to disassemble it and snap some pics of the motherboard? I'm interested to see where the IR sensor is as I would like to try adding it to my base model. I didn't know the base model didn't have IR on the console when I purchased it.

Anybody ever try this out? I had never heard of it till just now, watching Catfish on my PS3 and there was a little commercial thing for it. I just downloaded it and it's pretty neat. So far it's turned my EVO into a Blu-ray remote for my PS3, and it is surprisingly very responsive. I think it only works with certain Blu-ray discs but it's neat nonetheless. I'm gonna play with it some more but just thought I'd give you guys a heads up.

Yeah man, agreed. This right here proves that it's entirely possibly. This one works over wifi but I'd imagine it's possible to create one that works over bluetooth and can control the actual PS3 directly instead of through the disc. I really wonder why Sony hasn't made an app for it themselves. Perhaps they would rather people just buy the actual remote...
From what I understand, you have to pay Sony to use the bluetooth connectivity. In fact, I'm not even sure that just anybody can use the bluetooth connectivity for remotes. It's the reason you never see a third party PS3 controller that ISN'T a dongle wireless connection. And from the PS3 XMB, you need a controller to connect and control the PS3.
While in video playback the same holds true as well. But the difference in this blu-ray remote is that Blu-rays can access and have Java content AND Internet connected content control the movie. All the Android remote is is a wifi and Java marriage controlling your Blu-ray content.
Sadly, it isn't simply your phone directly connected to your PS3. If you read about the remote, it actually has to connect to your home network THEN it'll connect to your PS3. It's not even a direct connection. I believe the whole process only works on those Blu-rays that specifically mention the pocket Blu app. The only one I own is a Universal movie (Back to the Future).
Yeah this is fun
Was at my brother in laws house and I saw the ad for it on the bluray. He didn't know what was going on when I would go to the root menu or fast forward the movie. Great fun.
Yeah sony is odd with not being alittle more open with what get connected.
My logitech headset will not work with the ps3 as for game audio being piped into tge headset but I can go buy a headset that costs near a used ps3

I got excited until i kept reading the posts . Makes be wonder if phones like the Xperia play and such will get more love from Sony towards the PS3.
Now if o could only play games using it as a on screen controller
I'm not a Mik.....but my EVO is!
Since the Sony BD remote is just bluetooth,
I wonder if it is possible to just emulate the handshake and calls that the BD remote does with the bluetooth chip on any phone.

Pretty sure it has less to do with people wanting the actual remote and more to do with Sony wanting to charge $30+ for the actual remote.
So when is an xbox remote control app coming to Android?
Hello there, fellow members!
Last night with a friend we were discussing some stuff about the Ouya, and the next idea came into my mind: I would only purchase one because of the emulators and being able to connect it via HDMI. But wait, I can actually do that with my phone. What if I plug in an HDMI cable, a PS3 joystick and the charger into my ZL? It would be a nice way to play PS1 or N64 games. But yes, then I realized that the phone only has one USB entrance, which is the same for any of the above mentioned pheripherals.
So, what brings me here is the following question: are there any USB adapters with multiple slots compatible with our phone? If I tried a generical PC one, would it work? Or using three different functions in a hole that's made to support one at a time could damage the phone?

One of these, for example (combined with a mini-usb adapter on the cable), would work?
Thanks in advance, and best regards =)
I don't know if our ZL can handle multiple USB devices. But if you want to try it, you would need a USB Hub with external power supply because I don't think that our phone can put out that much power.
I think the Ouya has several device-exclusive games, but the ZL can play indeed Android games and emulators.
However, I think the only way to do what you have in mind is to:
1) Connect the PS3 'joystick' via Bluetooth. That way, you won't have to use the MicroUSB port.
2) Have an MHL cable for the MicroUSB to HDMI.
However, with point #2, powering the device will still be uncertain. The MHL (2.0) specs allow for powering your device when connected, but
A) Your TV will have to support MHL as opposed to HDMI.
or
B) Your MHL-to-HDMI adapter works as backward compatible HDMI, and requires external power to work.
In both cases I don't know whether the phone will charge and if it even does, whether the power will be sufficient to compensate for the (added bluetooth) power usage of the device.
It is for this 'contraption' that I initially wanted a device with both MicroUSB and MicroHDMI port, so more connectivity would be possible.
Anyway, I ordered all accessories I need to test this (but I don't have an MHL-supporting TV), expect info on this as I find it out.

The concept is interesting but the problem with the ZL is the battery life, if the battery will not be able to get charge, you only be able to use it for around a hour or hour and half playing games or watching videos from a 100%.
Sent from my C6506 using xda app-developers app
I hooked up my ZL to my monitor yesterday, using MHL to HDMI. Output worked when I supplied power to the adapter, sourced from the monior's built-in USB hub. The ZL was charging while the MHL cable was connected.
I streamed a 1080P MKV movie over local WIFI , other services(data connection/bluetooth/NFC) were turned off. After the movie was done, I checked the power usage and the battery level had remained pretty much the same throughout the movie.
So I think with MHL to HDMI, the device is only able to retain its battery level, rather than charging it to full. Having said that, the screen was turned on the entire time throughout the output; if I can turn off the screen while viewing, this could save the battery some more.
I'll perform more tests this weekend; I want to use Bluetooth as input device (I've somewhat given up on having Infra Red controls) and have audio played through the ZL speaker rather than over HDMI to my monitor (that has no speakers built in). Ideally I would want to combine this with my USB Host / OTG 4-port USB hub, but alas MHL and USB Host are mutually exclusive on this device.

How well does the IR work? I've heard a couple of posts saying that it was poor/weak on the G2 and G3 and you had to be really close and straight on for it to work? Can anyone who used the IR remote on an HTC One compare it to the G3?

I do not have the phone yet. But I would search online some more. I am sure I saw some users complaining that air condition remote was not in the G3.
So far I've found the remote function works pretty well (my sofa is about 6.5 feet away from devices) you just have to make sure the mobile is pointing directly at the device. The learning function is a complete pain in the @ss. Took me best part of 4 hours to set it up for my living room.

Same here with a sprint model. I've tried on 2 different brand of TV sets n no dice, yet my gpad works flawlessly? Any suggestions, tia
Mines very poor I sit about 15ft away and it does work. Crap too be honest my HTC Samsung phones have no issue at that distance.
Just tried it out about 20 minutes ago myself and it worked great. I have a Samsung TV and a Denon AVR and it found both without issue. The app kind of sucks, since I can't change the input of my AVR, but the functionality of the IR was just fine for me. I sit about 10 feet away from my TV.
it doesn't work on my air-con (panasonic)
but my TV worked perfectly :cyclops:

I played around with it a bit more last night and the Universal Remote feature is wonderful. You can setup your remote control however you want, placing predefined icon buttons or you can custom label your buttons. You then have the phone learn the IR frequency from whatever remote in question. I had to program a couple buttons twice, since the ideal range was 4-5 inches from the phone for it to learn. I ended up programming buttons from my TV remote, HTPC remote, and AVR remote. It's like having a Logitech Harmony on my phone... not as nice, but still functions in an almost similar way. If I could program a single power button to power on my TV and AVR, that would be a huge WIN for me, but unfortunately this does not work that way.
I'm going to search around for a good alternative, though. I wish I could make the remote a bit larger for more buttons. I also haven't figured out why the Universal Remote cannot be on my notification bar or lock screen, whereas the TV or Receiver remote can.

Works on my air conditioner. It should technically work with any IR remote, since you point the original remote at the phone to get it to read. Just make sure you select universal remote when setting it up. You add your own buttons and follow the prompts to map each button to the proper function by pressing the buttons on the original remote.
Constantly having to press buttons twice to get them to work, even from 4 ft away (not I don't sit that close normally....)
TV - Panasonic Viera Plasma
AT&T Uverse box
Denon AVR receiver
Wish, like another poster said, you could do it all with one power-on button. I'll have to mess with it some more.
I have to get the phone 2-3 feet away from my LG TV for the IR blaster to work. Sounds like I'm not the only one with weak IR. No such problems with my old phones.

Doosl Bluetooth Music Receiver
As most of us do, we use to listen music when we are in our cars, home or rooms, and most of us always finish using the AUX cable connected to our smartphone. This device comes here just to make everything easier and help us getting a much better way to listen music and don´t leave the phone near our sound system because if not we can´t hear our own music.
Using bluetooth devices for this things is very good since we can connect different devices for streaming music and in a very easy way, since this device has not bluetooth password and will let us connect very fast.
The specifications of this device are:
* Bluetooth Version: 4.1
* Bluetooth Range: Up to 30 feet
* Dimensions: 2.0*1.0*0.4 inches
* Power Supply: inner 250mAh Li-Battery charging via Micro USB cable
* Operation time: up to 16 hours(built-in battery) music playback
* Compatibility: car stereos, home stereos/speakers, headphones etc. by 3.5mm stereo inlet socket.
Now I will show you the content of this package, that is very small, and includes all the necessary things for the most comfortable use.
The first thing you see when you open the box is the device, and a little 3.5mm two-side cable that will allow you to connect the device wherever you want. Also the box includes an instruction guide, warranty and a USB cable for charging the device. We can say that we get everything we need inside this little box, and that´s a great point, since we will not need to spend any extra money to get the basic usability of this device.
The device itself includes a very big Play Button that will act as our Turn On/Connect/Turn Off button, which has a LED around the play button which shows us if our device is connected, turned on or searching for a device. Also in terms of connections, the device includes a Micro USB port and the 3.5mm port.
Here I let you see all the pictures about the device and all the components:
Now I am going to speak about the good and the bad points of this device after use it for more than a week.
GOOD POINTS
* Very light device
* Really small
* Very good quality sound
* Sound is loud
* Battery is good optimized
* Very easy to configure and fast connecting
* Really easy to use thanked to the LED
BAD POINTS
* Sometimes you are not more far away than 30 feet and the device stops playing the music or distorts.
Now is time to speak about the price of this device. I have to say for the use I give it on the car and on the hotel´s room I´m staying now or some places where I go with friends, the price is affordable and the device is worth the money you need to pay to get it The actual price of this device is $14.99 when it was $41 before so I really recommend to get it now that it is on sale.
Here I give you the link for you get the device: Mod Edit by @Darth : Selling site link removed.
Don´t worry if the description says it has Bluetooth 4.0, it is just an error and the device, as you can see on pictures has Bluetooth 4.1
Also here I give you the link for the complete album of pictures I took to this device so you can have a better look to the product: ALBUM

I deleted the battery one since it seems I was not using a good charger, so the charging time is correct for what it offers.
No, I did not see any other issue. And in your case, for the car is perfect. I would say this is a car's related device that can be given different uses outside a car
The Doosl DSER 102 Bluetooth Receiver is one of the most portable bluetooth devices I had. it's a nice fashionable sleek looking device, its very easy to pair simply hold the play button for a couple of seconds and wait for it to blink then grab your smartphone and it will detect the Doosl DSER 102 and just pair it.
The Great thing about this device it comes with an adapter, although I wish the adapt is a cable type so I can still extend it in case the socket of the audio plug doesn't have enough room space. But that is just minor.
The Quality is superb and it fits on any audio devices. although battery life is quite short but still enough for some long hours of non-stop music. :good:
I know that thread is not new, but I can't find out answer for my question about this product, is it possible to skip song by double click play button?? I am using android phone, sometimes iphone

Hi Andy!
Actually not, this is not the use that can be given to this device. It just exports audio transmitted via Bluetooth or 3.5mm jack way. That reverse Bluetooth function is not available.
Have a nice week.
Does it support earphones with 4 pole 3.5 mm jack ?? Can i use the inbuilt mic of my earphones for calls through this device ??

Content is protected by the publishers and not all equipment supports all the standards. In order to play it, every piece of your system must be compliant. Your Fire TV 3 is, your HDMI cable may not be, your AVR may not be, and your TV may not be. The documentation that came with your equipment will say what it supports or you can Google it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
UHD also means lots of different things too. such as HDR (high dynamic range, deep color), HDR10, and DV (Dolby Vision). The newer 3D sound formats, such as ATMOS offer another level of complexity. Your 3 supports Atmos which is basically the addition of height. I don't think you can do it without ceiling speakers but manufacturers claim they can fake it.
That's the best I can wrap my little brain around it.
Hi, Thanks for the reply.
The Fire TV3 is plugged directly into the usb port so no cable to make the signal change.
Ive got a Samsung KS8000 4k TV so it meets all of the standards that you spoke about, and did play the 4k content from my firebox (second generation)
I have tried all USB ports and I still get the same message.
Interestingly it does work sometimes though. but once you turn off the program and try to watch again I get the above message again.
Just dont understand it!

Sometimes works is a clue. I searched your TV and it seems to support the higher standards. I presume "plugged directly into the usb port" is a typo and you meant HDMI. Your HDMI ports are 2.0 and the set is HDCP 2.2 compliant so they shouldn't be the problem. Have you checked the Pendant's video output settings? Are there any obscure TV settings missed? Sounds a lot like a bad HDMI cable but yours is part of the FTV and very short. Any chance it has been damaged or the plug has been damaged? I kind of think suspending the box from the cable and port is a dumb idea. Tried wiggling it while online? Still have your 2? If so, does it work? That might tell you something.

Hi Sorry for the late reply. I have been in work!:crying:
Yes that was a typo I meant HDMI rather than USB.
I have the fire pendant plugged directly into HDMI port 2. I checked the video output settings and I have set it to upto 4k. I have set the scaling for my TV and that is fine.
I asked amazon to change the fire 3, which to their credit the did and sent me a new on... unfortunately the same thing happens. The weird thing is netflix will still play in 4k when I get this message about amazon content.
I still have my firetv 2 and I did as you suggested and tried that... plays without ant issues whatsoever.
Im so confused. Not sure if this is a firmware bug or something else!
Thanks for your help again
