pocket BLU app- Controlling PS3 Blu-ray with an EVO - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody ever try this out? I had never heard of it till just now, watching Catfish on my PS3 and there was a little commercial thing for it. I just downloaded it and it's pretty neat. So far it's turned my EVO into a Blu-ray remote for my PS3, and it is surprisingly very responsive. I think it only works with certain Blu-ray discs but it's neat nonetheless. I'm gonna play with it some more but just thought I'd give you guys a heads up.

Yeah man, agreed. This right here proves that it's entirely possibly. This one works over wifi but I'd imagine it's possible to create one that works over bluetooth and can control the actual PS3 directly instead of through the disc. I really wonder why Sony hasn't made an app for it themselves. Perhaps they would rather people just buy the actual remote...

From what I understand, you have to pay Sony to use the bluetooth connectivity. In fact, I'm not even sure that just anybody can use the bluetooth connectivity for remotes. It's the reason you never see a third party PS3 controller that ISN'T a dongle wireless connection. And from the PS3 XMB, you need a controller to connect and control the PS3.
While in video playback the same holds true as well. But the difference in this blu-ray remote is that Blu-rays can access and have Java content AND Internet connected content control the movie. All the Android remote is is a wifi and Java marriage controlling your Blu-ray content.
Sadly, it isn't simply your phone directly connected to your PS3. If you read about the remote, it actually has to connect to your home network THEN it'll connect to your PS3. It's not even a direct connection. I believe the whole process only works on those Blu-rays that specifically mention the pocket Blu app. The only one I own is a Universal movie (Back to the Future).

Yeah this is fun
Was at my brother in laws house and I saw the ad for it on the bluray. He didn't know what was going on when I would go to the root menu or fast forward the movie. Great fun.

Yeah sony is odd with not being alittle more open with what get connected.
My logitech headset will not work with the ps3 as for game audio being piped into tge headset but I can go buy a headset that costs near a used ps3
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

I got excited until i kept reading the posts . Makes be wonder if phones like the Xperia play and such will get more love from Sony towards the PS3.

Now if o could only play games using it as a on screen controller
I'm not a Mik.....but my EVO is!

Since the Sony BD remote is just bluetooth,
I wonder if it is possible to just emulate the handshake and calls that the BD remote does with the bluetooth chip on any phone.

Pretty sure it has less to do with people wanting the actual remote and more to do with Sony wanting to charge $30+ for the actual remote.

So when is an xbox remote control app coming to Android?

Gamepads?

I am interested in getting a gamepad for my PDA. I am not impressed with the joypad on the magician, at least for games. Also, I don't want to log that kind of wear. The only thing I have found is that folding bluetooth monstrocity that is being sold under all kinds of different names (freedom, chainpus, etc.).
I am not that picky, but that unit looks like the worst piece of product design I have ever seen. Bulky, and ackward. Is there anything else? I don't really care about BT. A cable it fine. I just want a straight forward gamepad for MAME arcade stuff. BT is nice, I guess, but playability is more important.
Does anyone have recommendations? Am I being too hard one the folding BT gamepad? Any reason why one of the numerous X-box BT pads wont work? This is the only thing keeping my Magician from fully satisfying my desires...
There is a cabled game pad for the ipaq series, maybe that could be rewired for the xda, I imagine the drivers will work ok.
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=2270
http://www.beinteractive.co.kr/eng/products-p3.asp?prnum=3&prrnum=1
Does that chainpus pad work with emulators like gegg and pocket snes and not just games specificaly for the ppc?
I wouldn't mind finding out some more of this also. What I do know is this... You wont find a wired gamepad that will work on the Magician. No USB or Serial host. Xbox or PC bluetooth gamepads won't work unless you can find drivers for them.
Now here's the big question I have. What bluetooth service does the pad use? Serial? I know the Magician supports the serial profile, but are the gamepads on some profile the phone doesn't have?
I want it for the PSX emulator floating around! Nothing better than playing Tekken 3 at 17fps and bashing the touch screen to hit "virtual buttons"! NOT!
Here is an email I sent to PocketGames [[email protected]] and their response...
Subject: RE:Zeta Joypad
Hello,
I am interested in the Zeta Joy-Pad. Is there a version for the XDA 2 Mini... (Also known as the Imate Jam)
From: '[email protected]'
Subject: RE:Zeta Joypad
Sorry, there's no XDA2 mini version.
The thing is, they have stopped production of all zeta joypad.
Thank you,

Wich psx emulator is that? You got it running on your jam? I had fspce and it didn't run. cheers
I have the same one. Chances are there may have been an error in your game rip. Did you manage to at least get it to the main screen so you could try to open a game?
Oh, and you need a playstation bios. Grab one of these from a P2P network. The file names are listed on the emulator website.
I also found that if you start a game in landscape mode, it crashes. Start the game and get past the title screen in portrait, then switch.

I actually bought this gamepad when it first came out (for $100 ), and I must say, I'm thoroughly impressed. There's a slight lag the further you are from the device, but the Jam fits perfectly in between (and I even have a silicone case on my Jam). The gamepad simply adds more buttons to your Jam, so basically it works with every program, not just games (i.e. you can map a button for Windows Media Player). Therefore, it'll work great on roms (I used to play Street Fighter 2 all the time at work before I got GPRS). One warning, the motherf*cker sucks up batteries relentlessly, so you might want to get rechargeable batteries, or some batteries that simply will last long.
Hopefully this answers any questions. Feel free to ask some more.
I had a look at those gamepads. Damn they're expensive! Cheapest one I saw was US$119! Bugger that for an idea, they can keep it!

They're actually going for $50 last time I checked. I paid close to $100 for it..
Yeah, my bad. It was actually on an Australian site. Works out to be around US$70. I've found cheaper still at some US sites so it would be cheaper for me to import it.
i've got a freedom game pad. Cost 77 euro.
It work fine and i use it for most ppc games and emulation..fpsce, morphgear ecc.
Great deal
G'day,
for those who bought the gamepad, izzit any good when comes to landscape games?
Anyone tried this beauty?

If you are interested in alternatives to the MSI or Chainpus BGP100 bluetooth gamepad, google search "modded by bacteria" go to the "work in progress" section of his forums, and search for the thread "Re-housed Bluetooth controller". The creator of the site, Bacteria, will be transplanting the innards of the BGP100 into an SNES controller. Previously, he has transplanted it into a PS1 controller. It seams feasible to DIY into almost any controller housing.
you'd better check on http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_kw=Game&_kw=pad&_kw=magician prices range from under $ 100 and free shipping

It's cool. I love to fly.
I saw this a while back but it was only for iOS back then. I'm glad to see them coming over to the dark side. I'm enough of a nerd as to go out and buy this. lol
Edit: Wait, I think they still may only support iPhones.
Edit again: There are apps in the Android market! Time to get on eBay! lol
im planning to get one of these toys
The British Car show Top Gear tested the iPhone version of that in the News Segment of the East America Special.......
http://www.ecrater.com/p/10813807/parrot-ardrone-quadricopter-controlled-by
I have 2 of these (see http://headloaf.co.uk for some stuff I've done with them).
There is already a development thread on ardrone-flyers.com with regards to Android control but I am sure that they will apreciate some input from this community too.
This is a great 'toy' and the community at ardrone-flyers.com are always looking to improve it even more. We've even managed to mount GPS to it and control it using 7ch TX rather than WiFi....loads of fun to be head with these!
It is designed for iOS use buy there are several scripts that can be run on the drone itself (as the drone runs off a linux base) so that it can be controlled via PC/Laptop, Mac, Android - these can all be found on ardrone-flyers.com along with some scripts for object tracking etc.
They are also some similar toys, which are working with bluetooth, even with older mobiles
That's freaking cool!!
Maybe after I pay some bills off and figure out how to pay for a wedding I will revisit this I love to fly RC planes and helicopers and I love playing with my phone so this is 2 awesome things in one!
Cool ... ... one day I'll get my hands on this techie stuff and control using an Android
that is Fking wicked just like the heli i build myself back when i was kid using foam and RC set.
but this is using the PHONE!!!!!!!! as the controller AWEOME!
i wonder how far is the range of those things

Range is 50 meters, but according to this:
http://www.ardrone-flyers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=807
You can stretch that out to 150-200 meters using some hardware and a little good old fashioned ADB.
it is cool cant wait to see some more of your future work
pretty sweet! can't wait to spy on my parents with this.
Even on ebay the price tag on this thing is high in would love to have one but I just don't see spending 300 on this plus parts if you want to mod it out
sent from a EVOlved device modded by the Borg.
Can someone specificy what this means
Play with other users via a Wi-Fi network
Another major feature is the use of several AR.Drone on a network.
Thanks to its own generated Wi-Fi network, players can create a game party where others players can join and play against each other.

Does this mean it creates a WiFi channel in which the phone connects to so it would work anywhere within the Generated WiFi range, e.g. my giant backyard?
EDIT:
* What type of connection is established between the AR.Drone and the iPhone?
The AR.Drone is connected to the iPhone by an ad hoc Wi-Fi link.
* Do I need a Wi-Fi router to operate my AR.Drone?
No, the AR.Drone creates its own Wi-Fi network. The iPhone(or device) can then connect to it just like with any Wi-Fi network.

Wow!
I also got one but it`s a pain in the axx to connect them with each other each time. Since Android does not support Ad-Hoc Wireless , we have to trick the AR Drone into Telnet thru your PC.
This means you have to carry a PC/Laptop with you to play with AR DRONE each time you want to turn on your Ar Drone
Kinda sucks ha ?
Read this LINK , this is how I get them to connect to each other .....
Anybody knows any better method to connect them ? I mean how to enable AD HOC on Android , I tried all the methods but none of them worked so far ... Is there an application or something ?
My phones are HTC Desire HD and HTC Incredible S

Well - this thread got me going a couple of days on getting a Drone
But have not found the time / probably won't either ... one thing I did read though is that it is possible to have the AR Drone connect to a WLAN (infrastructure - not adhoc).
It has some limitations concerning the IPs you use and probably security - but perhaps it is less a pain to carry around an extra router with your configured AR-WLAN
Google it - it was not hard to find
This is unrelated to Android but well worth posting.
For those of you in the RC hobby you've got to check out the Blade mCPx
A collective pitch heli with a 245mm rotor.. unreal
Definitely check out some YouTube vids of it, its just awesome. Amazing cp agility.. indoors!

My buddy has one and yes it does that. You can also view the on board camera on your evo. And dogfight with other drones. Also you can record video from drone. Pretty cool but 300 is a lot for a toy these days

Bluetooth audio streaming accessory

So I get my S2 tomorrow (Giddy as a schoolgirl) but I was looking for suggestions on replacing my current audio streaming setup. Basically my current phone, the Nexus One, had a bluetooth dock which when paired (Either when physically in the dock or over bluetooth) it would stream all audio from the handset to my connected sound system (Via 3.5mm jack).
I'm looking for an easy way to do the same with my S2, I don't really use the actual dock for physically docking so if there is a different/cheaper alternative which achieves the same effect then I'd be more than willing to try.
Thanks
If I understand what you are saying right then this here is what I am using and I find it superb.

Wondering why your existing dock won't work with the SGSII? If its bluetooth it will be handling streaming over the A2DP bluetooth protocol, which the SGSII supports, I doubt there is anything Nexus specific about it...

I want that but with a 3.5mm input jack rather than the cable coming out from it. I'm basically looking for some sort of bluetooth hub/headset which has a 3.5mm port. I know I didn't explain it very clearly

Unfortunately it's the official Nexus One dock and can only be paired once the phone has been docked once, therefore it only works with Nexus Ones. PITA for sure
Ah, OK, thanks for that explanation.
I have this - http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...51&storeId=10151&langId=-1&partNumber=DRCBT15
Very nice as a receiver, but also good for use with whichever headset you like (I use it when exercising, the AVRCP controls are very handy for controlled media playback).

That's exactly what I'm looking for, it's really helped push me in the right direction. Cheers
I am not sure able DRC-BT15 since I didn't brought this one. But I would suggest Sony's DS-220 or DS-205, those two unlike the newest MW-600 could be use under charging. (I own all of them...)
I've got a Jabra Clipper which works quite well. Just leave it plugged in to the plug and the stereo all the time.
If your stereo has an iPod dock you can try the uPlay bluetooth dock adapter - sadly didn't work with mine, suspect it's because my stereo tries to be clever and offer controls as well as just music playing.
There's also a Belkin dongle but I've never used it.
Any other solutions you find primarily aimed at home use rather than a repurposed portable one, I'd be very interested
I use this, the HP Bluetooth Pendant. It's a transmitter and a receiver. You're looking for the receiver (bottom part of the picture). The transmitter's pretty cool if you want to use a pair of decent wired headsets over Bluetooth. It's discontinued but you can still find them online. The model number is KD031AA#ABA.

Yes it will, the Livedock is exactly the same as the OTG cable, just the latter isn't a dock. I have tried my wired dual shock controller and it works. SE didn't specifically state their ps controller because its a controller and so will obviously work.

Amazed by HDMI cable!

Today I get an micro HDMI to HDMI cable from eBay, and tested it just few minutes ago, and I can only say, WOW. Great experience and quality of transfer, from watching simple pictures, to watching HD videos.
My long time problem with not being able to watch my favourite shows/movies on LCD is now gone because I don't need to burn all shows and movies to DVD's and then watch them in my crappy Samsung DVD player, which interrupts playing every 15-20 mins because of aged laser lens (not to mention limitation to standard definition .avi files only).
One more nice thing is, you can browse your phone on your HD LCD, and play some of your favourite games too, and they look really amazing.
The best thing I ever get for some of my phones from eBay. Ofcourse I could buy this regularry in some of the tech shops in my town, but this way it costed me about 30% less, with longer cable, and golden connectors.
Now excuse me, I'm going to watch Star Trek (2009) in HD...
Must say, I never thought that it would be that good quality. First time I plugged it in, though it was a bit of a gimmick. Wasn't very smooth and the quality was bad. However.....
As soon as I fired up a tv show, it suddenly changed to being crystal clear. Life On Mars played as good as it does on my PS3, also sounds great too. It's perfect to plug into a HDTV when your on holiday. No more need to lug around a laptop or many DVD's
I play with my phone using a 360 wireless controller, charging at the same time (livedock) and plugged to a bravia tv... Amazing...
To be honest I prefer playing that way with my phone than with the xbox360, the games are funnier and free...
I cant do that with my galaxy s2, thats why I love my arc s
Hahha, Overdose I thought I am the only Crazy guy playing like this! But you proofed me wrong! The only thing I own is an Xperia Arc and a no name TV which supports HDMI( 72op HD Ready) .. So , I got a controller from my friend -and started to get creative and end up using my phone as a console !
Guys, you're making me seriously thinking about getting a controller...
I'm not that much into console gaming, so you could maybe guide me about what controller you are actually talking about?
And how do you play games that require screen interaction (Angry Birds and so on...)?
